The new lore will probably not be all that complicated: The source dragons will proabbly simply be primordial entities embodying energy, balance or sth like that that have existed 'since beginningless time' (fancy ATLA quote meaning that they have always existed) which created the entire realm world and everything in it, including the oni. That is, excluding an entity which embodies the very opposite thing: chaos or imbalance which at some point destroys the realm world, thus creating a cycle which was mentioned just before the source dragon vanished. This entity could either be a new character, or the evolved form of the Overlord (with the pre-dragons-rising Overlord being a mere seed from which this entity can grow). Considering what this entity would embody, if it's gonna be introduced (which I give a 90% probability), it is almost certain that it will be connected to the Overlord in some way.

From what we've seen from them, I got the feeling that the Source Dragons can be seen as some kind of "deity-like" creatures who live in the Etherial Divide inbetween the realm. But, to keep things in balance, the Source Dragons had to create another lifeform which was the complete opposite of a dragon in every way... and that was the Oni. Later on Firstbourn gave life to the dragon race and so did the Oni to they own. (other creatures came from either natural evolution or by the power of creation posessed by Firstbourn)(other realms can have their own historical story compleatly relying on the factors the Source Dragons created in them)
