Another family (years ago) bought hay bales and stacked them on the north side of their mobile home as a windbreak. They covered the hay (straw?) with tarps and then used them the next spring for their animals.
We did use straw last year and it attracted too many rodents and when it got a bit warmer it attracted so many gnats and flies. Since we dont have animals we used it as compost and its very expensive too... Thank you for sharing and watching!
I know how you don’t like the cold. Me either. I can’t imagine living where the snow is all the time. I love the way you care for your wife. Happy wife happy life. God keep y’all safe and warm this winter. Merry Christmas and happy new year.
You might consider putting hay bales around the base of your trailer. Keep your slides in. You can loose a lot of heat.. I put rubber kids puzzel mats on my floor of the trailer. Added a lot of warmth. Keep you water dripping all night if possible.
You can get a dehumidifier to help with condensation or vent your RVs. The air needs to move around. During cold nights, we cracked our ceiling vents about a quarter of an inch, and that really helps.
Youre doing great Thi, dont put yourself in too much pressure youre just one man and you have so much to do, choose a job and do it and then go on to another youll drive yourself mad if you keep thinking about one thing while youre doing another, take care of you and your family, dont burn yourself out, great chanel xx
I wish I could do that. But I'm off grid, and unfortunately, I'm not producing enough energy to last me through the night... during the summer, I was able to run the dehumidifier more often.
Another good one :) Thi I have done things like you in the past & Vapor barrier it is heavy plastic, If you tape it over your insulation it is amazing how much cold it keeps out, I would put it right to the ground & lay logs on it like you did the insulation, just take it off in spring so it can all dry out, Helps keep mice out too :) & another tip if your plowing all the time with your quad it's hard on the battery, So what I did was build a wooden box that you can secure on the front rack & put a full size car battery in it :) just cable pos to pos & neg to neg You don' t hurt your little battery as it will boost from the big one, Works awesome ! Good job getting ready for the wood stove 👍
i take all batteries inside and bring them out when i’m ready to use them for whatever equipment i’m about to use…it’s a hassle just a little bit to do that but it works perfectly
I have a 2016 kodiak 700 and I had a issue with a battery and it not starting, to save a long story. It ended up being the starter i guess they short out internally I got a new starter for free from Yamaha even tho warranty was long over. I was very impressed.
Whether you live in an RV or a tiny house, a dehumidifier is essential. All small living spaces are prone to moisture buildup from cooking, cleaning, bathing and even just breathing. You won't need a giant dehumidifier; a tabletop model will do the job as long as it isn't a "mini". You'll avoid mold, mildew and water damage, plus drier heated air is warmer air for winter.
The reason your battery isn't charging well is because it's too cold. Almost all batteries need to be at room temperature or above when charging. They also need to be plugged in for a generous amount of time, as there is not enough current for a quick charge to occur.
At least it is not too cold this fall and it get above freezing during the day for now, after the ground freezes the warm feeling will be sometime in the spring lol. Underground is your friend as it doesn't freeze with a little insulation on top.
In the past I used Flax bales....bought them for a farmer. Flax does not rot...(as it's basically linen). Placed the bales all around my small cabin and in my case placed one 600 watt heater near the water pipe, drains, etc. I think even a 100-200 watt IR bulb probably would have worked ok also. Solar cells, enough of them could keep up the charge levels...? A few Quad battery getting fried...probably the charge controller kaput...?
@@OffGridWithGinaThi If battery storage is a issue, one can rig up a sand battery heater...insert water heater elements in metal pails filled with sand and connect some solar cells in series directly to the elements...during the day the sand will heat up and give off some heat at night...you tube has some vids on people doing it...but overall the flax bales will provide excellent insulation requiring very little extra heat...
Also for water dig underground at least few feet so that the water tank is below ground. That water will mot freeze. I liked you using shiny insulation on newly built door I am sure it will protect you from hot and cold
@manzalone2148 when you're under construction, it never looks pretty. A lot of people romanticize the process but it never looks beautiful when you're developing a land.
Do you have a air compressor? If so you can use it to blow air thru your water line to clear it out back down to the well side. Hope that helps. Take care and stay warm!!!
I'd recommend a battery buddy for your quad along with a master cutoff switch for when you're not using the quad. Sounds like parasitic draw could be a problem. Also check your battery cables to make sure they can transfer full power to the starting circuit. Clean up any corrosion & replace if needed. Keep up the good work.
To live of grit without a powerbank is not possible! I love the snow. Your door is good work. The old day must have been very hard ! Keep dreaming, and all comes slowly true ! People like us we don't have the money to buy a cabin and live in it in a week! But respect the love for your family 😊
Just found your channel bud. That water line, use a cheap air compressor to blow that line free of water. Hope you can make this all work. In fact you could blow all your lines free of water every evening until you’re sure they won’t freeze. Doesn’t take much time or effort.
Have the alternator checked on your quad. If the alternator is going bad, it will drain the battery when it is sitting. Try charging the battery, then when you are not using it, disconnect the negative lead to the battery when it is parked. If the battery keeps a charge, replace the alternator.
Hey my friend instead of digging up the road just cut & make a join easy to pull apart & that piece if you have air compressor just blow it out each time, If the rest is down hill enough it will drain 👍,
I also have another solution for heating your RV’s is to water heating coils. I’m sure you heat the water for a shower and kitchen so use the same boiler or a smaller boiler and use as induction heating that will reduce your cost of heating.
I enjoy your content Canada is very beautiful. I love the woods search quad necessary. it seems so peaceful out there. Take care of yourself and stay warm. I Watch from Illinois USA #BluettiFridayDay
modern jump starters are not used for charging your battefy. They usually provide a bit higher voltage and peak current when starting. 100 amps seems guite low. Usually the peak current during start is hundreds of amps. If your jump starter cannot provide enough current the voltage drops and your starter engine does not turn well
What I have noticed is that you are leaving batteries plugged inside the machine. My recommendation is to unplug and remove the batteries from machines and place them inside heated area but whenever you need just plug them back it will always work even after months
Add heat tape and pipe insulation to the water line . Get a dehumidifier for the camper. And a heat lamp/chicken lamp for under the camper. And the silver insulation for the windows. Years of experience surviving winter.
Get a battery tender and keep it on the battery when ever you not using the atv. I have one for each of mine as well as on my car and truck. It makes a huge difference on battrery life!
@@TheNicestAssholeYouWillNvrMeet No it wont but thats not what its for. It keeps your battery fully charged which will give you the best chance at starting your quad. Also it will extend the battery life!
Perhaps you will consider getting more ridget foam insulation to surround the shed and keep it warmer with less fuel of the buddy heater and more efficient
Hi! I already took it out it wasn't too deep and yes I do use the compresser... usually these video are 2 to 3 weeks behind ... thank you so much for taking the time to comment! Thanks for watching!
No worries! It would be quite expensive and we are saving all our money for future home which we are hoping to start building next year... this is just a temporary set up. Thanks for watching! :)
Ur hubby doesn't like cold and wants to make you happy❤ ok so bc is damp in winter ( born in Victoria) Alberta dry but gets to -30 ish...I'm sure you all know...Montreal was my last Canadian skating competition...wecame 4th
Could possibly have something draining battery when at is off , unhook battery when not using atv , also if your plowing and using winch a lot , you will need to put on charger when your done or leave atv run for a good while after your done , as the winch takes more power from battery , then the atv can put back in , so if use winch a lot then just shut atv off the battery may not be fully charged , I’m in Saskatchewan Canada and plow with my atv and have no issues but usually I put a battery charger on battery to top it off battery , if I’m using winch a lot ,
Thank you for the advice! I didn't do that last year, so I might have damaged this battery. No matter how long I charge it, it still has a hard time starting the atv. Thank you for the suggestions.
If you watch our previous videos and I think we mention in this video also... we are in the process of installing a wood stove ... thanks for watching!
Good idea. I lived a winter in Alberta just like that. It wasn't great but at least we didn't freeze to death. You've got to work with what you've got.
Hey!! Thanks for the comment and watching. I do use it when the snow is soft. Unfortunately we had a mix of rain and snow and it was stuck to the solar panels... got to love freezing rain!
I am in the States and I hate both extremes of hot and cold. Of the two, I probably hate the heat more so guess where I live? Arizona were we have triple digit weather 5-6 months of the year. Actually Phoenix, AZ was voted the hottest in the States last year. So why do I live here if I hate heat? Unfortunately for my health.
@destineeone yes we did but they have 24 hrs to claim it. If they don't we pick a new winner... just keep an eye out! It takes some time to finalize everything. Thanks for your patience!
And little draft will freeze anything! This is a rough project to start with “on the job training”! Gotta know what you’re doing before you take it on…I admire your dedication and hard work. Just do more research maybe?
Hi Victoria! So far, we are happy with the progress. This is a temporary situation as we will start building our home soon. It's a small sacrifice for building debt and mortgage free, which isn't a reality for most. We could definitely make it easier with being in debt, but that's not what we want. We are enjoying the process but can understand how it looks crazy to others... take care, and thanks for watching!
Unfortunately, they ended up getting hurt several times when they were off leash. Max one day couldn't even walk ... and his coat was all matted from mud ... they are Husky Malamutes... huskies are known to run and never come back. Their insticts are strong for running although i feel like they are getting better. They are still puppies and very reckless at times if both are off leash at the same time. Hunters are also trapping different animals during different seasons (we are surrounded by crown land) ... and wolf packs are known for killing dogs too, which, unfortunately, our dogs would definitely follow a wolf. It's more for their safety. We leave them off leash sometimes and more when there's snow, as it's easier to get them cleaned up. We show them off leash in several videos, but not always, especially because we are in a small space with dirty dogs, which wouldn't be the greatest either... I do feel like now that they are getting older, they are becoming more aware when it's time to stop and rest... but yeah, more for their safety if that makes sense! We are hoping to make a huge fenced-in area so they can have a blast and dig to their hearts desire... they also almost sank our trailer with a massive hole they were digging 🤣 never a dull moment with these dogs. We only use their crates when we need to go on a short errand or they don't want to be alone in the trailer. They will make a hole in any wall, or be very destructive if left alone.
@@OffGridWithGinaThi I had Two Malamutes. Loved them to death even though they cost me a fortune on wooden furniture, leather sofa, & a crapload of TV remotes. & yes indeed they loved to run & explore.
@@mauricepowers3804 hi Gina here!! I told my husband this channel should be called off grid with Thi 🤣 but he didn't want to change it... I'm usually working or homeschooling the kids... so it's a bit boring... but I'll be showing up more in the near future 😆
i am not sure if its worth that much effort to just live borderline poverty life . i use to think living off gird would be fun but its more work and dont think its cheap
Definitely not cheap... but we also are doing this temporarily and trying to save money for our home build. Life is what you make it, and we are enjoying the process. We have food, a warm space, clothes, and so many other blessings. We decided to do this journey debt free, so if we were to use our credit like most people do, I can assure you that most people would be at the poverty line if they weren't in debt. Definitely wouldn't say we are at the poverty line just saving money so we can build our future home next year. So definitely worth the effort for us... life isn't easy, and everything needs effort and hard work. It's a small sacrifice that might seem big to others depending on their mindset... we've experienced the city life and the rat and cat race and we enjoy this life we are creating much more... everywhere has its challenges. .. thanks for watching!
Hey! It's a series where we are renovating and connecting the 2 trailers... so we are in the process of preparing to connect the 2 trailers... we'll make sure to work on our thumbnails next time, maybe to add more text... thanks for watching and the feedback!

@@TheNicestAssholeYouWillNvrMeet No it wont but thats not what its for. It keeps your battery fully charged which will give you the best chance at starting your quad. Also it will extend the battery life!
Are you doing an enclosed walkway between the two trailers with a raised floor?
Yes :) thanks for watching!
WRAP YOUR CORD IN HEATER TAPE SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS CATS KEEP PUSHING BUTTONS
Got to love the cats lol and unfortunately, we are off grid and cannot use heater tape. Thanks for watching!
You should check your alternator.
Perhaps you will consider getting more ridget foam insulation to surround the shed and keep it warmer with less fuel of the buddy heater and more efficient
We have moved all the things from that shed to the trailer... coming up in a future video! Thanks for watching!
Condensation is due to the lack of air renew
Use big fans to keep aur circulation?
Use compressed air to clear water out of main line instead of digging up the line.
Hi! I already took it out it wasn't too deep and yes I do use the compresser... usually these video are 2 to 3 weeks behind ... thank you so much for taking the time to comment! Thanks for watching!

Yup 🙂... that's where I got the idea.... thank you for watching! All the best!
Just genuinely curious, would it have been better to build like a barn house? Forgive me if i missed it, not sure if you mentioned any of that
I really like the music!
Appreciate the feedback! Thanks for watching!
100 amps to start a car or what ever is nothing. My jump starters is 1200 amps and it starts like a bullet. The Avapow have a higher Peak is the trick
Hi are you going to put some plywood on the outside of skirt, so nothing can’t penetrate and go underneath and scare the heck out of you.
Yeah my dad went around the whole mobile home with 2x4’s and styrofoam insulation - plus 1/2” outdoor plywood. Pretty expensive.
Are you going to try to some how insulate the slides?
Need a dehumidifier it helps with condensation. Also dip ur water to prevent freezing. Surprised u don't use wood to heat.
If you watch our previous videos and I think we mention in this video also... we are in the process of installing a wood stove ... thanks for watching!
You need to put a battery heater on it
Wanting that BLUETTI generator
Want and need are two different things. Go buy one you cheapskate.
Im glad it doesnt snow here.
I wouldn't mind no snow either 😆
@@OffGridWithGinaThi Suppose to be near 80 this week here.
@@OffGridWithGinaThiwhy you don't insulation your shed
@@OffGridWithGinaThi Snow is nature's insulation, shovel it up against your walls. Igloos.
Good idea. I lived a winter in Alberta just like that. It wasn't great but at least we didn't freeze to death. You've got to work with what you've got.
We'll definitely be putting in the work to make it cozy!
To clean the snow off the solar panels, try a leaf blower. Car dealers use 'em on the cars on their lots.
Hey!! Thanks for the comment and watching. I do use it when the snow is soft. Unfortunately we had a mix of rain and snow and it was stuck to the solar panels... got to love freezing rain!
@@OffGridWithGinaThi Sorry to hear that. The blower trick only works with dry snow, true.
I don’t like cold either 😊
Cables look green it might not be battery at all probably just cables
I'll check it out. Thank you for watching, and for the tip.

Just another ⌨ 🐄ard with no content.
Is it alternator
When the atv is running.... I read 14v on the multimeter, so I don't think the alternator is the issue.
Hey I was wondering, did you give the Bluetti away yet?
@destineeone yes we did but they have 24 hrs to claim it. If they don't we pick a new winner... just keep an eye out! It takes some time to finalize everything. Thanks for your patience!
@@OffGridWithGinaThi Where do you announce the winner?
And little draft will freeze anything! This is a rough project to start with “on the job training”! Gotta know what you’re doing before you take it on…I admire your dedication and hard work. Just do more research maybe?
Any little draft….
Without the hands on experience the research isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Maybe this was answered before, why are the dogs being walked and caged on a 40 acre lot? I thought they'd be able to roam free.
It sounds like an alternator problem
How come we never see you, Gina???
