Excellent video, Dominique. I am a stay-at-home mom/grandmother and I think your advice applies well to me too. Having a classy mindset as we work from, and here at home is important because 1.) we teach our children these good habits, 2.) we demonstrate that home-keeping is not a drudge, but an essential part of the culture, and 3.) we demonstrate a respect for ourselves and that encourages respect from others.

I've been at my "career" since 2000. Everything you've listed is appropriate, legitimate, and valuable. (I completely agree with some other comments, this would be a great video for H.S. and college students, women heading back to the work force, etc.) My only addition would be to learn the names, and appreciate those who seemingly make your job easier (for example, as a teacher...the secretaries and custodians are EQUAL, and should be appreciated and valued)...respect is earned, you must see the value in those around you, and how it can not only make your day easier, but more enjoyable. Thanks for another great video!

Thank you so much for this advice Dominique! This came just at the right time for me. I had a very abusive childhood and I lost my voice - I became a "hidden" child so to speak. It's carried over into my adult life and I'm still quiet and a chronic "low talker." I'm better now (mentally and emotionally), but it was hard after having been screamed at, hit, and told to "shut-up" (among other things) by those who were supposed to care about me. It's hard to feel like one's opinion matters (especially at work)...and yet I want to speak up many times. So thank you - thank you for this reminder that my voice matters too.
Also I just wanted to add that I so admire you and the way you present yourself - your poise, professionalism, intelligence, and heart radiates through the screen. It's so nice to have another woman to look up to (even if it's on RUclips), as I never had that in "real" life. Yes - your voice matters too - and your content! It has a tangible, positive effect on the world :-) Thanks again.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm glad that you are doing well. It took awhile to build myself back up. I am now in a job where the dynamics overwhelmingly mimic the household in which I was raised (meaning: it's not just one person being antagonistic). I'm getting out of there soon, so I'll be okay, and more conscious of the red flags next time.

As a HR professional I agreed with everything you stated. My advice is as follows:
    1. Never waste time at work, do your best to get the job done. If you need assistance ask.
    2. Get confirmation always when you have completed a very important project. There are time of miscommunication or people claiming they didn't get your call or email. This show you are on top of things.
    3. Complete the project you hate the most. Then you could move on to better things.
    4. If you can't stay late to complete your work, then come early.
    5. People do notice a person of work ethics.
    6. Use a planner or to do list. Set dead lines. And only put down 3 top things to tackle a day. Everything will fall into play.

Workplace Stand-Out...you certainly nailed it. These are things my mother taught me many many moons ago. These are things I have taught my children and now teaching my grandchildren. A person no matter what they do or where they are in life should stand-out to be the best they can be. Today, after many years working in diverse careers I wake up, put myself together and have a smile in my attitude, kind words to share, ready to help, will give opinions when needed, will take advice from others and enjoy my day with all my co-workers. Thank you for sharing and may you continue to share! Blessing to you too!

Thanks for the suggestion about being interrupted. I’m a stay-at-home mom who hasn’t been in the workplace for 29 years. Recently I’ve begun to volunteer in a professional environment and have been surprised by how often I’m interrupted by adults. I know how to handle it with my kids but wasn’t quite sure what to say to an adult without sounding condescending or whiny.

Another tip I've learned over my career: Don't be the employee that is constantly complaining to your manager/supervisor about problems or people.
    A) Only escalate issues you absolutely need Management's assistance with because you can't handle it on your own.
    B) When you bring the problem forward to Management, have possible solutions ready.
    C) Be ready for the possibility that your Manager may decide to handle the situation differently than you expected, and handle this with grace.
Also, never underestimate the power of networking and cultivating relationships with people in your industry...and even beyond. Take time to support colleagues. Talk positively about other people's work (only if sincere!). Lift other people up and mentor when you have the opportunity!
    Thanks, Dominique!

Wonderful! One thing that’s greatly helped me is to reach a hand back and help pull someone up. Mentoring a young lady at my job has been invaluable! It sparked joy for me as I was feeling that I had taken my career as far as I could in my last year before I retire. Mentoring a bright, curious, motivated colleague in the clerical pool elevated her to management, opens up unlimited options for her future, puts her on an even level oath with my peers towards a future opening and has helped me build a bench/succession plan as I consciously downshift to leave and retire. Of course we needed supervisor approval, but I presented a monthly goals/met plan for the process and it’s a win-win for everyone and the community we serve. It could take 8-12 months to post my position when I leave and this builds a fill-in person so no one is left in the lurch when I waltz out the door to my next chapter! Thanks Dominque, I recently found your channel and love it! 💖

Great advice Dominique! As a career woman myself for almost 30 years now, I can attest to the fact that a winning attitude and confidence go a long way. Something else I have learned along the way is ownership and accountability are critical to be a good leader. If you make a mistake, own it, don’t try to deflect the blame or pin it on someone else because people will see that, and they will interpret that as you are not someone to be trusted. If you see a problem, or you caused the problem, accept responsibility and find a solution to resolve it, and people will respect your honesty and your leadership even more. As women, we are often afraid to admit when we make a mistake because we are trying to live up to these ideals of perfection, but instead of seeing mistakes as being ‘wrong’ or a failure, if we see them as learning opportunities, it will make us stronger in the long run. This applies to life in general, not just the workplace. 💪😊

All great advice, especially for young people entering the work force for the first time. I would also include on there being a team player. SO many times I have found that when coworkers are put into small groups to brainstorm or develop policies and plans, it's always the same 2 people that end up doing the bulk of the work, while the others either goof off, answer phone calls/emails, take 30 min bathroom or smoke breaks, etc. And on the flip side, if you are a take charge person and are one of the 2 people doing the bulk of the work, make sure you delegate and solicit input from everyone in the group and try to get the rest involved in decision making. I know for me, it was always easier if I just did something myself because then I knew it was done properly. But that behavior didn't allow room for others to contribute, so that was a skill I needed to develop in myself.

    Dear Dominique,
I personally follow your postings on you tube channel recently. Your tips are very interesting and useful. I just watched this video. When it comes to work and our relationship to our workplace and colleagues (as well as all the other areas in our lives), I would summarize it in one word; responsibility. If we are responsible for ourselves, then we will be able to behave responsibly and respectfully to our environment. Regards from the beautiful Croatia!

    Good Morning Dominique
Everything you said is so true. I run a motor mechanic business and have three men working for me, the rapport that we all share is amazing, the respect goes both ways and they are very protective towards me when speaking and dealing with customers. When it comes to sick days or days off they are honest and very open with their reasoning. It is so true about unity and honesty. It does go along way when things in life take an unusual dive from time to time.
    Thank you again xx

LOVE THIS! A year and a half ago, I changed from working in the not-for-profit industry to the agriculture industry, and didn't take it well at all. I allowed a lot to affect my work and had to finally be honest with myself. I admitted where I was lacking and buckled down with a total do-or-die attitude. I found out today that I'm being transitioned to another department and away from my entry-level position. I am completely elated! This is so well done, such good reminders that we all need in order to not only live by but to use as a way to re-evaluate ourselves and why we aren’t where we want to be. For me this is perfect timing I am 52 so the work environment has changed drastically over the years but theses basics are timeless. I will be watching this again as I am
About to re enter the workplace after being a stay at home mom that has run a very small bookkeeping service from home for 10 years in order to raise my kids. But it’s time to go back to a structured professional job again. Thank you so much for this advice

Dominique, your advice is amazing, I consider you to be a career mentor and I find these videos invaluable as I transition from employee to employer. To answer your question of advice to others, I would say be on time, be present and care. I work in a male dominated arena but have confidence in my own options which is based on a confidence in my own ability. When male colleagues (rarely, thankfully) seem dismissive I have a concrete basis for my self worth and it doesn’t alter my outlook. I also go over and above where possible without effecting my work life balance, and whilst the pay off is not always immediately apparent, those senior notice. I was recently selected to do the job I love above all others in a work place restructure. Ladies, women, girls go into the work place with grace and dignity, positivity and intelligence, and you won’t go far wrong. Thank you Dominique for this video.

Thank you once again Dominique. .. great tips. I work part time and i have recently started volunteering some of my free time, purely to gain experience and seek out another string to my bow. Totally agree with you on attitude and not getting caught up in office politics/chatter. Turn up, show up, and keep your head up. Meet people in the eye and never be afraid of your own ability. Ask questions when unsure and get clarity on things from your boss. Always make a list.. an organised brain equals an organised desk equals a job done well. Thank you again. Greetings from Ireland.x

I've just returned to work after a period of illness, and I'm not feeling my best still, and I've been coasting. This was the kick up the butt I needed!

Such good advise for those of us that have been the workplace a long time. I know I will be working on some of these recommendations to better my game.

Another great video. Very valid points that translate into the core values of someone who is successful in their career. I have found that the actual tasks at work were not as difficult as navigating around the bad attitudes, the do nothings, the gossips and tattletales. Hope you enjoy the Labor Day weekend!

Love all your advice, so perfect for today's world. Women if you want respect, you must respect yourself first, and that means act the part! You are so unbelievably classy, and an inspiration to women! I am so grateful that you take the time to have a channel and share your talent and secrets with us! I have no doubt that you are incredibly busy, so this channel is a real blessing! Thank you Dominique!!! 💕 Also, you look amazing, love your new intro!!!!

Great video, Dominique! I took away to focus on being professional, on your own flame and showing up consistently!
I get names called for ignoring questions like "What are your plans for the weekend?" while at work. I happily take the short-term exclusion from the group in that regard. Long term, I'm getting places. I'll then be in a position to look back and laugh at these situations.

OMG you have no idea how I needed this talk. Im a nurse and been very down recently I always go in with a good attitude but have struggled with wanting to stay in nursing recently. Some weekends I work 45 hours in 3 days. Too much and not a good work life balance.

Extremely insightful information! Sometimes, as women, we lose sight of how important these things are in the workplace and in life.
This video will definitely be shared with my staff next week. I'm excited about the open dialogue this will create.
