  • The hashgraph consensus algorithm enables distributed consensus in an innovative way. Hashgraph is a distributed consensus algorithm that is fast, fair, and secure. This indirectly creates a trusted community, even when members do not necessarily trust each other.

Keep it up with these sort of videos! Its is really helpful. Would be cool to see other videos that explain different features of the Hedera Hashgraph platform.

I feel like there has to be 5 more hours of this to actually explain how hashgraph functions as distributed financial ledger that prevents double spending. I understand bitcoin yet am still clueless about hashgraph after watching this video.

*weight, not wait. We will *weight* them by the stake

That part caught my ear too, and I think he said "own" (not "owe"). It looks HBAR ownership is a key part of the algorithm but it did skip over it. I don't know this though, just speculating.

What happens when there is a network partition or malicious nodes such that the median timestamp differs from node to node?

    • @mirekrusin
      @mirekrusin 2 года назад

Each node comes with proprietary flask of snake oil, if network partition happens, you just rub it in and partition goes away before next sunrise.

Hedera does not control whether its token will be on exchanges, but we anticipate that HBAR will likely to be traded on exchanges at some point in 2019. Keep an eye out for updates!

So this consensus requires a network clock to timestamp all tx AND needs to know the number of partecipating nodes to calculate the middle of the list, and actually you should achive consensus on those first, so it's a consensus thant needs a previous consensus. Meh...
This ordering might not be fair at all to some nodes that get late or have slow connection, so uptime + reliable high speed connection, what if those are not granted?
What if a node cheates and puts a wrong/convenient timestamp in their transaction? What if a node cheates on "the last message received" using an older one to predate a tx? So... timestamps are not 100% reliable, hence virtual votin might be flawed and order of events/tx might be too
So... is it just me or this thing seems to be pretty much trust based?

it does not explain how the consensus is made, it only talks about each player 'claims' of their action with timestamp.
It means there is no 'consensus' there is only 'claim' and shared file of the history of claims.
How does the action of 'Saving the time stamped message each other' validates if the transaction is true or not?
It seems This tech is made to be used between trusted player, it is not for anoymous ecosystem.
Without 'validation', coin is not even needed. this algorithm can be used without a coin between trusted player.

    • @epadel675

Hashgraph reaches the theoretical limit of security, and comes close to the theoretical limit of speed for a consensus algorithm. So orders of magnitude faster and provably more secure than btc.
