if you pick up an insect by the carapace, and not put it on your hand and cradle it, there is no way that it can turn its head around and bite you...I was careful of that. The very fact that I plunked down my hand beside it to show the size of the bug was rather foolhardy, admittedly. I got very lucky, indeed!!
They fly your just a fucking. Idiot a child could see this video and replicate you and not get as lucky you don’t handle these bugs you might as well go play with desert centipede or a Japanese hornet you stupid woman honestly
In all honesty they don't hurt any worse than a bee or hornet sting. Pretty sure that coyote peterson dude way overdramatizes the pain of some of the bites he's gone through.
I've never been able to see an insect breath like that before. I found that hella disturbing for some reason. I've picked up snakes and spiders but that thing scares the shit out of me for no reason.
I'm in my 70's now I always wanted one but I was in my 50s before I ever saw a live one not in captivity. I live in Cleveland Ohio and because of the cold weather they really don't get that big. Thank you for the video.
That dude must overdramatize the shit out of those bites. I've been bitten by these things a half handful of times in my life and they feel no worse than a bee sting
oh, and yes, Cannibal...I do live on the wild side...try it I felt confident that I was not harming it...and I'm old enough to take the consequences!! What can i say...some of us Grandmas have chutzpah!!
Ruben Ashton Why? Because it looks different? Or because you have the power to do so :( Although that wiggle dance is a bit gross haha.. I saw on of those 5 years ago and it was GIANT and muscular. much more than this one.. I thought I dreamed the whole thing ever since.
Despite having 'water' in their name, these guys can and will walk along the ground and fly through the air, and in fact frequently do so in order to find better hunting grounds. This one was probably just looking for a pond or stream with more food in it when you found it.
This is known as the toe biter and the bite is one of the most painful insect bites in the animal kingdom I was bitten by one in a pool as little kid and it's extremely painful I still remember and I'll never forget
this is very cool ....one of those bugs flew into my window at work at nite and kept doing that for three nites in a row...i took a picture of it...had no idea what kinda bug it was...showed the pic to friends no one knew...and it "pulsated" like that when it was on the ground...
How did you pick him up without having him bite you?! We get those in our pool and man they are very territorial! They come after you.. we fish them out of the pool with nets before even thinking of going swimming
Caught one last night on my deck (Vancouver Island, BC, Canada) after he flew off and dropped 15 feet ... he's in the sink as we speak ... they do eat them in asia.
Not very smart picking up a giant water bug. Their bites are extremely painful and usually become infected. I got bit by one in my parents pool when I was a kid. My toe swelled so bad that it split the skin. I couldn't walk or wear a shoe on that foot for 3 weeks. When ever I see one now I steer well clear of them.
"The Giant Water Bug Whisperer" -? Altho golly, he seemed take a fright when you figured, all well meant, to put him back where you got him from. Especially after that first scare, brought from water to the log - trying to calm down, catch his little breath from that (looked to me like some 'fight or flight' arousal there - front leg posturing). Anyway, cool little animal. And nice animal handling; with due appreciation not many can realize from that type creature - too busy being scared, or thinking its 'ugly' or something. Not knowing what they're dealing with, usually less formidable than your Lethosaurus there (ps AFAIK once they got their full-length adult wings like that one, they're done shedding skins).
It uses those big arms to hold small frogs as it sucks out their innards liquifying the frog. It will also eat its' own kind and fish too. It will come out of water in spring looking for as mate. They will drop out of the sky anywhere....lousy navigational skills..if there is a large open area even a parking lot it will suddenly land! It does not deliberately attack humans, only biting in self defense..
im getting lightheaded just looking at the photo never mind the video. I can handle rats, mice, snakes, I allow spiders to live in myhouse because they eat bugs, I CANNOT stnad big Cockroaches - in Florida they fly and we call them Palmetto bugs - these things with the large bodies and legs very much remind me of a Palmetto bug - huge phobia - ugh.
Karen Lantz there is a much smaller bug...also black, but with long front legs that it uses to propel itself through the water with. We call that one a water boatman in Ontario. see ruclips.net/video/aSZf2J2d7Yg/видео.html to my recollection, it doesn't bite
@Sofia Vargas They do fly! Giant Water Bugs are the KING of true bugs! THEY swim, crawl, fly, have venomous sting, poisonous bite, hunt birds, snakes and fish, are carnivorous, and aggressive!
I found one of these on the street and I put it into Tupperware container. I decided I was going to give it to my science teacher the next day. I left him on the counter and he literally moved 2-3 feet and slid into the sink. So I put him in the freezer. I took him out a few hours later to look at him all dead, and IT STARTED MOVING AGIAN!!! So I froze him again, and this time he died!!!!
That pumping motion is their way of saying "Imma kill you, don't touch me".
+Tree Bark That pumping motion is its heart, I believe.
***** Actually, that's them breathing through some tubes in their abdomen, and a sack of air in their rear. Weird little things.
Tree Bark
Huh, some larger stick insects produce the same movement and as far as I know breathe through spiracles.
pumping hemolymph into the wings before flight

Ginger2u78 p
You are very brave! Even rural women are afraid to take up these bugs, I know they are very painful bite.
They fly your just a fucking. Idiot a child could see this video and replicate you and not get as lucky you don’t handle these bugs you might as well go play with desert centipede or a Japanese hornet you stupid woman honestly
@@wolfgrey7785 will you shut the fuck up?

"He's breathing heavy because I bugged him argargargarg" 😂😭
Mr krabbs over here
this "nice" bug can fly and have one of most painful bite ;..;
he easly can eat a frog or fish of his size like a spider...
Cars are more dangerous you know? and btw these bugs will RARELY bite you, they need to be very threathened to do so
They can fly too??? If that’s true damn these bugs are adaptive and versatile, (not to mention creepy too) .
In all honesty they don't hurt any worse than a bee or hornet sting. Pretty sure that coyote peterson dude way overdramatizes the pain of some of the bites he's gone through.
one of those things bit me...so I bit it back, and made it apologize... we're friends til this very day!
Kill it with fire
@Pyro TheFlameThrower LOL
Wholesome
How bad did it hurt?
You are australian
Everybody gangsta until you realize these things can fly
I've never been able to see an insect breath like that before. I found that hella disturbing for some reason. I've picked up snakes and spiders but that thing scares the shit out of me for no reason.
It's for good reason super powerful bite
I'm in my 70's now I always wanted one but I was in my 50s before I ever saw a live one not in captivity. I live in Cleveland Ohio and because of the cold weather they really don't get that big. Thank you for the video.
Those things have a really painful bite. Just ask coyote peterson lol.
That dude must overdramatize the shit out of those bites. I've been bitten by these things a half handful of times in my life and they feel no worse than a bee sting
@@brandonleclair1666 ik this is late af but people have different pain tolerance
You can’t expect everyone be the same
Crazy that she just grabbed it with her bare hands
Everybody gangsta till the bug starts bopping
How could you love something so terrifying?
oh, and yes, Cannibal...I do live on the wild side...try it
I felt confident that I was not harming it...and I'm old enough to take the consequences!!

You're crazy. I would either run the fuck away or kill it with fire.
Ruben Ashton Why? Because it looks different? Or because you have the power to do so :(

Ginger2u78 Btw, I'm pretty sure it's wiggling like that to scare you into leaving it alone xP. The irony.
+Ginger2u78 It has eggs on it's wings, so it's a male.
+SmokingSpoon Because their sting/bote is inbelievably painful and cause infections.
You are lucky that thing did not bite they HURT when they get a hold of you!! Great Video
It's only a pinch you'll feel
That water bug was a model that day 📸😅
did you squeeze it too hard? What is that protrusion on the top? Looks like its insides squishing out..
Lmao 😂 she's like isn't he amazing , ppl watching that know what kinda bug it is yeah wait till it bites u

Bring forth the flametrowers
Also, it was warming up its body (the clicks and pulsating) for attack. They're very aggressive and YOURE SO MENTAL
Damn that roach sounds like a small dog. Oh their it is was a dog
You're a very brave individual.
He wasn’t breathing he was getting ready to fly they breath out their abdomen like a snorkel in the water
one randonly attacked me in my back yard today. i had never seen one til today and it was the most terrifying experience of my life
Once I was bitten by that thing when I was in the river side it was so painful that I was full of tears
THANK GOD ITS NOT AS BIG AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE
Seeing her deal with that is like me trying to hand off a lit stick of dynamite
yes they inject venom into the prey and suck it out

At work down here in St.Paul I seen one of these monsters brought in by a traveling biker lol. I guess it caught a ride with him from BC
lol
That explains why he was wearing black
Try swimming wit those things every night while they just jump out of no where and sit on your shoulder. Scariest. Bugs. Ever.
preserved one in alcohol a few years ago...fascinating insect that parallels Arnold Schwarzenegger holding ice picks.
The movement of the bug is a warning/threatening behaviour.
Best to admire from a distance unless ur familiar with these guys
please let me know if you find it in ontario canada ,,,thanks
the bug is a bit overwhelmed from the way it was handled. you scared it terribly
How did you pick him up without having him bite you?! We get those in our pool and man they are very territorial! They come after you.. we fish them out of the pool with nets before even thinking of going swimming
Hi grandma, how is ur health?
I have an inch long species ( or underdeveloped since it’s beyond the time it would become an adult) as a pet her names crystal
Found one like that in my bfs pool. Damn thing tried to bite us. Those things are territorial.
pls let me know where you found them...thanks
Don't let that bug bite you because it's venom liquefies organs

One if those things once bit me....I took it to my kitchen and fucking COOKED IT
I KNOW. I LIKE TO WRITE LIKE A COOKIE.
Our bug trap in the store caught one of these, what is it called? (Btw it looks so cute, I would have never guessed they were biters!)
I had five pet ones as a kid

Holy crap why did you pick it up it has the strongest bite an insect could have.
