Alister Mackenzie designed the golf course, who incidentally died before the first Masters invitational, so he never got to see the finished course. Mackenzie also was never paid in full for his work.
Clifford Roberts and Bobby Jones had a falling out because Roberts suggested Jones not be a part of the winners ceremony, because Jones was in a wheelchair and suffering poor health, and that it was a bad look on tv.
The one and only time I went to The Masters was for the Tuesday practice round in 2002. I'll forever be grateful for that experience and to the person who got me in. And after walking in the first thing I see is this massive crowd walking towards the 1st tee. I go to a higher point to see what all the fuss was about and it was Palmer teeing it up for his final practice round ever. What a way to start that day!
Great podcast. Roberts was a very power hungry and lonely person who fell out (power struggle issues) with Bobby Jones and the end of Bobbys life. BTW, Bobby Jones and Alister MacKenzie designed the course not Roberts.
Did a video on the dark history of the Masters and Clifford Roberts is a pretty wild character.
Your video brought me here thanks 🙏
Let’s go!
Manscaped ALWAYS cuts where you don’t want it
This show has become on par or better than the Snake Drafts. Keep it up 👍
Do your research better. There is zero evidence that the property was a plantation. Yes it was owned originally by the newspaper publisher but even then it was a nursery.
Clifford Roberts would not allow the invited golfers to wear beards. The National had a barbershop and if Mr. Robert’s thought you were in need of a shave or haircut he would suggest you go see Mr. Johnny the “Club” barber. In the 1960’s it was still common to see gentlemen patrons wearing a necktie and sport coat. Ladies soaked up the sun in their Sundresses and wore sandals, golf shoes or espadrilles. The “hoodie” along with guys beard stubble and oversized mallard billed caps had not become the look. So you two
would have never made it past the guard gate. Golf was once a gentleman’s game. Patrons enjoyed looking their best while in attendance and you might see Arnold Ben or Jack headed to the Club barber shop to see Mr. Johnny for a quick trim.
Scotty won the masters again and he’s as bummy as it gets
So many wrong things said in this I can’t begin to list
What do you expect from a couple of woke creeps? One that looks like mommy still dresses him and the other as obese as they come.
Breaking news from Chief. People down south were racist in the 1950's. Wild
😂 gets his hands on any conspiracy possible
Chief is terrible at whatever he does
😭😭😭😭😭😭
Don’t forget the misogyny
The tickets were never passed down in wills
The four day passes were and still are if I’m not mistaken
@@Piesfan35 they weren’t. It’s in contract, when recipient passes away the tickets are returned back to the club.
What a terrible portrayal. Poor rural area??? Come visit Augusta, happy to host.
i’ve been to the city. place is a dump
The fact he killed himself on the par 3 course and not a single par 3 challenge winner has won the Masters is kinda creepy. It should be called the Roberts curse
Hi guys,
Really enjoyed the podcast.
I've been fortunate to play Augusta a few times and I must say I've never even sniffed a hint of racism there.
You are quite possibly right about what happened back in the day, but I really didn't get that feeling about the place whatsoever.
how are y'all making this not even knowing about the Eisenhower tree... smh
Yeah, Ike's slice was always a problem with that tree. He threatened to cut it down. Mr. Roberts said otherwise..
Your teammates at Fore Play get press credentials for the first time, meanwhile you guys are making this…? Yikes.
He didn’t design Augusta guys come on
Roberts definitely did not design Augusta, Its a Mackenzie (with bobby jones). And yes, obvi ANGC was exclusive, like nearly all private clubs of the time, but calling it a "dark" history is such click bait. I do really like your show generally, but this is a real stretch. There is a lot of made up and false statements in this one
Omg you mean Augusta National didn't want their course turned into Harlem or South Central! They didn't want their course turned into the hood because the hood is run so well and so honorably? And they didn't want women to cause 6 1/2 hour rounds of golf? I'm just absolutely shocked
So many incorrect facts and views here. Foreplay come in and fix this
drives me nuts how chief gets on here and just makes shit up... or repeats shit that is wrong... cant listen
