I’m a complete beginner and only just got familiar with most moves from all of the different characters. Eddy is super annoying because all of his moves are hard to differentiate as they all look like low attacks.
here are news for you. you don't make a game so only the top % of players enjoy it. if we say that 50% are casuals then you made a character that's annoying for 50% of your player base. game devs want new players to buy there game(i know shocking concept) make a easy to play scrub killer is never a good idea. and it's a pretty bad game design.

Yeah I feel that he’s a character that shouldn’t be strong. Zafina was *too* strong in Tekken 7 and she was a nightmare to deal with. These stance heavy, knowledge checky characters should always hover around mid-tier imo
Eddy is not OP its the scummy things around him: - No Labbing for people who arent buying DLC - Resetting Eddy Comp Ranked to beginner so he noob stomps - Some long ranged mid attacks whiff against his idle animations - His super braindead 33333 combo which feels like the Victor Mains get a round two.
Dude devil jin has ss2 and hold up combo which does 74 damage, king can do hopkick into grab and does 62 damage. But its eddy all need to cry with his 33333 combo...
I don't think auto combos like that are problematic . Those combos are sub optimal at best and relying on that combo neither would make you a good eddy player nor good at Tekken .

Yep. He is the LAST person you should look up for how strong a character is or is not. Look at reina: he said she is super ultra duper hard, the hardest character ever made and she sucks. Lee was S tier for him for like a year. Dragunov was A tier until the very last videos, where is tbottom 5 suddenly, with zero changes for years.

Some of his tracking should probably be adjusted as some move's like his df1 are almost homing but other than that I think he's pretty fair has some struggles but has some super strong moves like b3 is a really good counterhit launcher now that it's pretty easy to confirm
Problem with Eddy isn't Eddy himself - it's the fact that he is one of the most knowledge check-y characters in the game, but you can't lab him without paying up first. You don't have a chance against Eddy if you can't lab his bullshit, making it clear P2W. I don't care if I can't play him without paying, but it's pure greed to lock even practice against him with a paywall.

Yeah i used eddy for the longest time they took staple moves. reduced his 50/50 moves, you can't cancel a move and quickly switch from lows to mid or highs.
You guys act like he doesn't get asked every five minutes on stream if Eddy is good. Of course he's gonna give his first impressions. Obviously these will change over time.

You’ll find your comfort zone, try it in a bunch of situations and you’ll find what you’re comfortable with. It’s very good when far from an opponent bc it has a lot of range
i feel like instead of bringing eddy back they just created a new capo, which if they were going to do might as well have been christie or tiger so you can have 2 capos that play completely differently
Eddy played a huge role in tekken working along side jin people just mad. Eddy was disrespect in tekken 7 with little to no traction, no side step, high risk little reward and people complaining. Compared to what he was this is a perfect upgrade

If a character is still both fun to play as and play against, then they've done a decent job...I still prefer T7 Eddy, simply because I'm used to the old moveset and I'm obviously gonna miss being able to mix up based on muscle memory alone, but they still pretty much kept most of his identity in tact.

I get what TMM is saying about being able to back dash against Eddy’s 50/50 in RLX but idk why he didn’t factor in Eddy can also move forward during RLX and follow up. So if you’re actively trying to back dash it he can dash forward and catch you with 3,3. I’ve done it myself multiple times against people trying to back dash. Also no mention of iWR3 being plus on block putting him into HS letting him either power crush through jabs if you try to poke him out or use 2 to get another plus frame on block move off that transitions him into RLX. db2,3 is a guaranteed launcher on CH that crushes highs and high mids. HSP b4 is an evasive CH launcher where Eddy jumps back and then jumps forward into you. Idk if Eddy is super broken mind you but TMM is underselling him a lot.
TMM has a history or gauging a character’s strengths incorrectly for example, S1 Akuma, Lidia, Fahk, 5.0 Devil Jin, S4 Katarina and many more. Saying that he’s judging the character too early isn’t that much of a stretch if you look at his previous track record.

He was playing the character consistently as his main and still thought those things. Now he sees that kazuya is def A tier and is likely even stronger than devil jin. Pretty radical change and again that was with a lot of playtime on his main... but i gotta trust mainman's day 4, sub 3 hours of playtime, opinion on Eddy? So similar to the fahkumram thing it is simply an early opinion.

I don’t think to intermediate players the problem is how characters are on paper. Its more like the animation how you don’t know how he is beating you but he just spinning everywhere in the screen and your only option is watching them while they take half your health. Thats why we never hear complains about Jin because you can tell if he made a mid kick or a low kick
He’s not strong, he’s confusing. This is actually Tekken’s number one problem as a game, one that Tekken 8 actually does a good job handling, but then of course Eddy is one of the biggest offenders of it.
What about making videos on dealing with each character? It's honestly very time consuming to look up each and every character. It's not like 2D games where learning a match up can be really fast and easy to remember
Something that made eddy stand out in 7 to me was his plethora of defensive options and keepout, both if which are very neutered in this game. He doesn't feel weak, but they removed a huge part of his identity and made him play the game the same way most of the other characters in T8 do
That's a tekken 8 problem in general, alot of characters need to get nerfed a bit. Most characters kind of do the same thing now just with different inputs, alot of uniqueness and counter play is gone compared to 7
I was a big eddy enjoyer in T7, got him to Emperor and had a blast playing super defensively. But now, I just hate how he feels, like he's just another T8 rushdown character, except just a weak one at that. The old defensive tools that I loved (manual RLX to crush stuff, ss3+4, super good backdash) are gone and now you just get a weak rushdown character... Sad...
I don't use eddy, but at least they gave him a sidestep. Also with all the stuff that swe pointed out in the video, I don't really think you should be playing him like a rushdown character
But i think eddy has very strong 50 50 because in relax stance he has lot of safe mixup. Yeah its high but worth it. 2nd when you do only f it ahead in relax stance which is quite scary 50 50
But only if he lands a hit into relax stance. If you BLOCK anything into relax stance, he is -7 to -9 on average depending on what he transitions from. What made Eddy a scrub killer in older Tekkens was that you need to use very specific moves to punish his relax stance. So many times, players would use generic mids and other attacks that would whiff on relax, and then get whiff punished despite Eddy being unsafe. Then the new players would erroneously claim that Eddy is plus on block when he was actually fully punishable. Now that relax has standing status, you can use ANY MID to punish. That’s a massive nerf and one of the main things that made Eddy confusing for new players is now gone.
Agreed. Having like 5 good moves alone does not make any character "OP", it starts when a move is strong and there is no easy counterplay to it(Azu's iWR for example), Eddy while has some new good stuff, his weaknesses seems to be the same(Even weaker pokes than in T7, steppable/reactable lows, pretty bad 50/50 without install, range/tracking issues on key moves, etc), this is why Kuma or Yoshi is also not "OP", just (Maybe) "strong", Eddy is the same type of character that is annoying to deal with because of his knowledge checky gameplay design, but that's all.
I believe the real issue is we all expected Eddy to ship in broken. But ended up being one of the more balanced characters? All the while I am not one of the best Tekken players. But I struggle to read Eddy's animations and while I am not frustrated by him. I am caught but a lot of his moves because unless labbed, really can't tell what is a mid or a low.
Just Play Eddy for a week and you will realise how predictable he is.. he has a lot of moves that are pretty bad and unsafe. He has some good moves on hit but the startup frames aren't really good. T7 Eddy is way more difficult to face against in my opinion.
@Justlookingaround19 The same could be said about Kazuya. But it's not the character but the player. Timing and skill is what seperates players. I play Bryan. Everyone knows what to expect but doesn't stop me from stomping or sometimes getting stomped. It's the same argument people make about certain moves being "steppable". Delay but a second and the very same step kills you. Only strings are safe bets but placement is what truly differentiates a casual, hard core and tourney player.

Eddie is definitely not weak. He covers the screen and goes into 50/50 while evading everything. It’s crazy to downplay him. He can do armor into heat so you’re never allowed to press at the start of the round
People are making way big of a deal of Eddy's auto combo . Its not an issue . That combo is suboptimal at best . Relying only on that combo won't make someone good at Tekken . Some characters are going to have easier options then other . Have y'all forgot Katarina or Noctis ? They are super easy characters to pick up and play but they'll not make you good at the game .
@@samuraix4966 Just got done playing those eddie scrubs in ranked and they just keep pressing buttons and are in a different stance every nanosecond. One nanosecond he's just in his normal stance, the other nanosecond he's standing on his hands, and the other nanosecond he's just bullshitting on the ground, and all of that while just pressing stuff with no way for me to know when I can punish since I don't know his frame data. So, I need to purchase him in order to lab him in practice mode or replays, which means that I now can't know which of his attacks are mid or low, what the frame data of his attacks are etc.

If you are familiar with the way moves are designed in tekken, you can intuitively know something is punishable. A mid mid string that knocks down for example is almost always -12 or more
First time playing Tekken and Managed to get to assailant in two hours knowing little on the game with Asuka. Now I'm constantly getting stomped by Eddy and his spammy moves. I think the issues scrubs like myself are experiencing is he inherently has an advantage over players not familiar with his unorthodox movement/attacks. Sure, skill issue and learn the matchup (all for it), but it seems the majority of the playerbase does find him to be pretty strong? The top 5% of players opinions don't outweigh the masses I suppose
The relax stance nerf is huge…. Anyone complaining about him is just struggling because he’s the new character to adjust to. Once he’s figured out, he’ll be low tier as usual
I'm hoping this actually reflects an acknowledgement that they fucked up in their design philosophy in this game and alot of the more questionable decisions like tracking heat smashes will be gone when the balance patch rolls around.

33333 combo is no issue as long as it's balanced. A character can have the most difficult combos and still feel broken e.g. Akuma.

B+1 ,4 , 3+4 on counter it works i know its not juggle but it has very good damage more than 50dmg. And its also crush high moves alot even d+1 too

I'm sorry but can't u download eddy ghosts from other players? I thought u could at least lab in replay but I was apparently wrong
You can't use the replays to lab. It will tell you that you need to purchase him first before trying to take control or even watch the replay.

And yet, you did't provide any counter-arguments explaining why he is wrong or what makes Eddy OP.
TMM has a history or gauging a character’s strengths incorrectly for example, S1 Akuma, Lidia, Fahk, 5.0 Devil Jin, S4 Katarina and many more. Saying that he’s judging the character too early isn’t that much of a stretch if you look at his previous track record.

@metsu-satsu4280 it is just early on dude. For example, TMM thought Kazuya was weak, by far the worst mishima, and a bottom tier character for like the first month and a half the game was out. He was playing the character consistently as his main and still thought those things. Now he sees that kazuya is def A tier and is likely even stronger than devil jin. Pretty radical change and again that was with a lot of playtime on his main... but i gotta trust mainman's day 4, sub 3 hours of playtime, opinion on Eddy? So similar to the fahkumram thing it is simply an early opinion.

He said "im getting early fakumram vibes from this" and you are moving the goalpost by asserting that the argument is "what makes eddy stronger than Mainman says?" when that wasnt the claim. He made no claim and did not give an opinion at all of whether mainman was incorrect or not. He simply implied he will wait until further evidence is brought to the table.
I don’t think to intermediate players the problem is how characters are on paper. Its more like the animation how you don’t know how he is beating you but he just spinning everywhere in the screen and your only option is watching them while they take half your health. Thats why we never hear complains about Jin because you can tell if he made a mid kick or a low kick
He’s not strong, he’s confusing. This is actually Tekken’s number one problem as a game, one that Tekken 8 actually does a good job handling, but then of course Eddy is one of the biggest offenders of it.

What about making videos on dealing with each character? It's honestly very time consuming to look up each and every character. It's not like 2D games where learning a match up can be really fast and easy to remember

Something that made eddy stand out in 7 to me was his plethora of defensive options and keepout, both if which are very neutered in this game. He doesn't feel weak, but they removed a huge part of his identity and made him play the game the same way most of the other characters in T8 do
its not the OP part that bugs me. Its that every character is a 50/50 rushdown char now that is the problem.
That's a tekken 8 problem in general, alot of characters need to get nerfed a bit. Most characters kind of do the same thing now just with different inputs, alot of uniqueness and counter play is gone compared to 7

I was a big eddy enjoyer in T7, got him to Emperor and had a blast playing super defensively. But now, I just hate how he feels, like he's just another T8 rushdown character, except just a weak one at that. The old defensive tools that I loved (manual RLX to crush stuff, ss3+4, super good backdash) are gone and now you just get a weak rushdown character... Sad...
I don't use eddy, but at least they gave him a sidestep. Also with all the stuff that swe pointed out in the video, I don't really think you should be playing him like a rushdown character

I don't know shit about how good or bad Eddy is but what I do now is that he was animated wonderfully.
Eddy was such a cool character in 7. His poking keep out play style was so rewarding. Now hes just unga bunga.
But i think eddy has very strong 50 50 because in relax stance he has lot of safe mixup. Yeah its high but worth it. 2nd when you do only f it ahead in relax stance which is quite scary 50 50
But only if he lands a hit into relax stance. If you BLOCK anything into relax stance, he is -7 to -9 on average depending on what he transitions from. What made Eddy a scrub killer in older Tekkens was that you need to use very specific moves to punish his relax stance. So many times, players would use generic mids and other attacks that would whiff on relax, and then get whiff punished despite Eddy being unsafe. Then the new players would erroneously claim that Eddy is plus on block when he was actually fully punishable. Now that relax has standing status, you can use ANY MID to punish. That’s a massive nerf and one of the main things that made Eddy confusing for new players is now gone.

Agreed. Having like 5 good moves alone does not make any character "OP", it starts when a move is strong and there is no easy counterplay to it(Azu's iWR for example), Eddy while has some new good stuff, his weaknesses seems to be the same(Even weaker pokes than in T7, steppable/reactable lows, pretty bad 50/50 without install, range/tracking issues on key moves, etc), this is why Kuma or Yoshi is also not "OP", just (Maybe) "strong", Eddy is the same type of character that is annoying to deal with because of his knowledge checky gameplay design, but that's all.

I believe the real issue is we all expected Eddy to ship in broken. But ended up being one of the more balanced characters? All the while I am not one of the best Tekken players. But I struggle to read Eddy's animations and while I am not frustrated by him. I am caught but a lot of his moves because unless labbed, really can't tell what is a mid or a low.
Just Play Eddy for a week and you will realise how predictable he is.. he has a lot of moves that are pretty bad and unsafe. He has some good moves on hit but the startup frames aren't really good. T7 Eddy is way more difficult to face against in my opinion.
@Justlookingaround19 The same could be said about Kazuya. But it's not the character but the player. Timing and skill is what seperates players. I play Bryan. Everyone knows what to expect but doesn't stop me from stomping or sometimes getting stomped. It's the same argument people make about certain moves being "steppable". Delay but a second and the very same step kills you. Only strings are safe bets but placement is what truly differentiates a casual, hard core and tourney player.

People are making way big of a deal of Eddy's auto combo . Its not an issue . That combo is suboptimal at best . Relying only on that combo won't make someone good at Tekken . Some characters are going to have easier options then other . Have y'all forgot Katarina or Noctis ? They are super easy characters to pick up and play but they'll not make you good at the game .

If you aren't spamming (i.e. pressing buttons in quick succession), you are most likely not a good Tekken player.

@@samuraix4966 Just got done playing those eddie scrubs in ranked and they just keep pressing buttons and are in a different stance every nanosecond. One nanosecond he's just in his normal stance, the other nanosecond he's standing on his hands, and the other nanosecond he's just bullshitting on the ground, and all of that while just pressing stuff with no way for me to know when I can punish since I don't know his frame data.
So, I need to purchase him in order to lab him in practice mode or replays, which means that I now can't know which of his attacks are mid or low, what the frame data of his attacks are etc.
@@DBTHEPLUG for just playing tekken 7 Eddie and watching some random pro player talk about him is enough to learn the match up.(i just don't want to spend money after what they did to kazuya)
If you are familiar with the way moves are designed in tekken, you can intuitively know something is punishable. A mid mid string that knocks down for example is almost always -12 or more
First time playing Tekken and Managed to get to assailant in two hours knowing little on the game with Asuka. Now I'm constantly getting stomped by Eddy and his spammy moves. I think the issues scrubs like myself are experiencing is he inherently has an advantage over players not familiar with his unorthodox movement/attacks. Sure, skill issue and learn the matchup (all for it), but it seems the majority of the playerbase does find him to be pretty strong? The top 5% of players opinions don't outweigh the masses I suppose
The relax stance nerf is huge…. Anyone complaining about him is just struggling because he’s the new character to adjust to. Once he’s figured out, he’ll be low tier as usual
I'm hoping this actually reflects an acknowledgement that they fucked up in their design philosophy in this game and alot of the more questionable decisions like tracking heat smashes will be gone when the balance patch rolls around.

It doesn't help when Bamco has been purposely releasing them overpowered for the last 2 seasons of Tekken 7 to make their full priced games p2w. After years of that behavior people are just going to assume the new character is BS and why wouldn't they
