Dude that opening timeline is so in-depth it's crazy. Went frame by frame just to see all the different devices and man you put all sorts of devices I've never heard of, it's just awesome. I love the small edits in your jokes. 10/10 video please do more
Seconded.
That must have took so long to edit
This is crazy accomplished. Can’t believe this doesn’t have more views. Keep going!
"Before there was Candy Crush, before there was Flappy Bird, there was nothing.... And before there was nothing, there was Tetris."
-- _Prelude to_ 'A Short History of Handheld Gaming'
The fact candy crush is still popular is wild to me. I remember playing it back in 2013 and already feeling like I was late to the game. I got bored of it after like 600 levels. I can't imagine how many levels they have now.
@@randybobandy9828over 14,000 if I’m correct
@@WhateverWhenever888 that's stupid.
Dude this is amazing, glad to be an early sub and can’t wait to see the channel growth in no time
After so many years I got hooked into watching a full video without pause or skipping ahead,Nice video man hopes to see you more from u
How do you have 44 subscribers?? Your content is incredible! Also excellent game OSTs in the background. You're going places!
The story of the executive tripping and falling and breaking the Coleco demo is like a real solid twist on engineer demo Murphy's law.
I’m instantly honored to have become your 200th Subscriber today. If you keep making videos as high-quality as this, you’ll be at 200k by late 2024!
I'm thankful to have a Steam Deck 🙏🏻♥
Over the years, my gaming stuff disappeared.. One day I saw that Valve was creating its own console. I didn't think much of it. At that time, I just looking for ways to play my old games on the go, cause I miss them so much. Than that one faithful day, when I saw a video showcasing its emulation potential, that was it. I knew I needed that machine.
Fast forward to today, I'm re-living my best childhood memories ♥
I could talk about my favourite old classic titles forever 😄
I love my Steam Deck 👑
Dude this video was great! The editing, the writing, and the pacing were all fantastic! I even learned a lot about the handhelds that I never knew and I thought I knew it all! An easy sub, can't wait to see more!
Feels like I caught the next youtuber early! Great video don’t srop
Wow, I used to have a GP2X; awesome little device.
I didn't know the history behind it.
Good vid, tx
inb4 this channel takes off like a rocket, because this is gold!

Just so you know...Nintendo DS was officially launched in Japan on the 2nd of December 2004
Bro we want to see more from you, I’m glad to be one of your early subs, can’t wait to see this channel at 100k soon
Hey man, great video. I love your editing style. It kept attention the entire time and I really enjoyed your narrative. Keep up the good work. I'll subscribe and look forward to more videos.
I never knew about GP2!!! It seemed way ahead of its time. Great video btw
I think this is an excellent video. My one critique is that you pretty much in passing mentioned The Game Gear and I feel like it's importance is so overlooked. Yes the Gameboy outsold it by a long shot but the game gear sold pretty decent and was around for 7 years.
Surprised you only have 82 subscribers, video is amazing, keep it up!!
I subbed! This channel is criminally underrated.
348th sub! Keep on going!
No, seriously. You have less than 10 times my subs, and i haven't done anything for youtube. this video was crazy, bro. You're going to be big soon, mark my words.
Wow, this is really well made. Shocked you only have 158 subs.. you’re going to go places!
I didn't get a handheld until I was in my late 20s with the PSP 3000, but man was that a fun system! After that I had a Vita, and now a Switch OLED. I never knew hanhelds dated back so far
The editing is crazy, you deserve more subs.
Gotta LOVE how you also included the niche consoles (Steam Deck, AYA NEO lineup, ONEXPLAYER lineup, GPD consoles) that most don't know about (also, the Steam Deck is the least niche but something like a Switch is way more known)!
Nintendo is unstoppable, a juggernaut and you know what they say nothing can stops the juggernaut.
This guys way to underated, though this was a channel with 1m+ subs. Great work
Here before you blow up, this video is really damn good! instant sub :)
yoo, that intro was so fucking sick
You have to wait 2 years to make a video explaining how steam deck destroyed Nintendo handheld market grip. Seeing how crazy this steam deck craze is I'm sure that would be a video in the future. Also great video man
This channel is criminally underated
Pokemon, Tetris, Pacman and Super Mario Land were just a few of the first BIG reason that the Game Boy sold well.
I had a Caanoo. I played so much SNK stuff on that marvelous thing.
This is amazing, great work
very beautiful you should have more subscribers
As 32 year old (man I’m getting old) who grew up with game boys and ds … Nintendo is legendary but my favourite was the psp and the only one that comes close is the steam deck playing full aaa titles as they are released on the go and Sony are backing it all there first party pc releases are deck verified
So much effort put into this, but not the attention it deserves
Oh I actually have a GP2X! I mean, it's currently not working, but I've been meaning to fix it for a long time. It's my dad's old, actually, and he was a massive nerd back in the day, which means that the console is filled to the brim with old games. I'm pretty sure that he downloaded every single game on it that he managed to pirate, because of the super low quality of some of them. I really should try get it working again, because I think that there might even be some lost media in there
Edit: I got the motivation to check it, and it was actually much easier to fix it than we thought (it was actually my dad who now fixed it, but atleast it works now)
Awesome video! Maybe make your voice a bit louder tho or the music quiter so its easier to hear what you are saying :)
Early sub gang! Great video!
Well done. Very impressive work here. Please turn the volume down a bit more on the next one. It’s hard to hear your voiceover at many points.
Handheld gaming has existed since man first played with his 'joystick'
Seems like everyone is in agreement that this is a GREAT video!
Hey dude this was well done I hope to see lots more from you.
Great video, though it was weird how Sega was left as a footnote without even a mention of the Nomad or Game Gear.
I agree there should have been a bit more.
Great vid! Greetings from Chile!
This video should have way more views
Missed opportunity for "These are pretty cool bananas meme in the intro
This is very under rated
7:59 this simple edit made me laugh way way to hard
My favorite consol : brick game!! Brickkk game forever!!!
Love the video but as always Epoch never gets any credit for introducing consoles in Japan. They were the first with pong and cartridge based consoles and even introduced the first handheld with interchangeable cartridges in Japan.
But still the best handheldvideo on RUclips....
New favorite youtuber
you deserve more subscribers from that effort bro. let me increase that for one bit
Great watch, loved it!
I feel that the 3ds XL was the last portable console to actually fit in your pocket (and even then it's a little bit of a stretch)
Even the switch mini is abt 8 inches long, whereas the 3ds XL is 6 inches
Nintendo unalived that man...
Subbed, great job!
how do you have such little subs this is a well made video
Awesome thanks great work Sir
I play handheld games MUCH more than consoles. I love hand held gaming. ha
Why do it's always small channels that deliver the best videos
Awesome video!
Game Boy is certainly the most important.
Gameboy is Iconic but Gameboy Advance was the greatest hand held of all time!!
Great video! Watched this on my rog ally lmfao
Extremely good video!
Under rated video!
1:55 I think that was from the war in Ukraine, where Ukranian drone was trying to knock down a Russian artillery spotter drone.
video gets a like from the intro alone
edit: bro make more stuff this is great
Where is the song that starts playing at 10:06 from?!? I heard it somewhere. Just don't know where
Yoshis Island underground music
That is one in-depth video on Tetris rip-offs 8)
damn only 131 subs? nice vid, now its 132
Cool video, but the music is REALLY loud and your voice is very quiet, paired with the lack of captions made this video very, very difficult to understand.
with this video quality I was excepting 100k subs
This is so underrated!
There’s a new steam type system out I forget what it’s called honestly but as a bit better processing power and screen quality but idk I like of the steam deck looks oh and the new thing also has longer battery life but considering how long the steam can last that’s not a deal changing effect. Idk also the price point it’s much more with it at this point to go with the steam deck than pay more for a maybe slightly better system. And this is so far I’m sure steam will update and make new releases as well but I do love the steams. I just got a miyoo mini plus because the size is acceptable even with other pocketed items and I still get a great amount of awesome fun games with the power it needs to be a fantastic handheld system for these games . Exactly what it’s for it does well like it should.
Please make more videos there are awesome
20:22 is it just me or does it sound like you said it was released in 2014?
Very good coverage (not sure if you skipped the Neo Geo Pocket or I missed it. Actually where was the Gamecom or Virtual Boy or RZone. The handhelds I care about for tech potential get ignored because oh sales even though that had great features the others did. Gamecom was more interesting for its features of the OS beside it's games, the Ngage was gaming and phone hybrid, the Zodiac and Gizmondo have things built in that the PSP had separate, separate peripherals for and they were PDA/Pocket PCs very impressive for the time and notable sales flops that interesting stuff. Oh well disappointing but it is what it is with the script or video length I guess even though they are interesting systems then the DS/PSP are for having what the PSP can do and more in them but probably not compared to the GP systems).
Otherwise nice covering earlier eras not just Gameboy/Game and Watch, the GP32). Sad you didn't cover the Panasonic Jungle being cancelled even (the precursor to the Android cloud handhelds of today it and OnLive for 2010 would have been an interesting thing to detail).
Also quite the quick lead up with 2000/2010s I didn't like that but got to have it be 20 minute length I guess? You even skipped the Tapwave Zodiac, Ngage and Gizmondo sigh ok then. Even J2ME cellphone games.
The GP systems especially the tv support (Nomad/PSP are also capable so nothing new) but Linux before Android ones of now wow.
Otherwise you have your GPD and other Pocket PCs before the Aya Neo or Steam Deck.
A good video but you missed some I mean the UMPC or the other DS/PSP (the other 3 that have notable features) competitors I think we're worth covering.
Great job
Yokoi suddenly hit by a car? That wasn't planned at all
Wow great video man definitely deserve more subscribers learned a lot more about a hobby that I enjoy
Where on earth did you find a Yoshi's island cave theme that sounds like it belongs in a Rocky movie?!
27 subs but great content
If koto didnt lose his life the world would be different
Nice video!
Handheld console gaming is like a bad joke with the exception of Nintendo stuff and the PSP :( I find it incredible how over the last 40 years all handheld consoles besides those have failed because of ridiculous business decisions and bad 1st/3rd party support (I hope the steam deck will be a success)
My homie forgot the nokia ngage 😭
Subbed u spooky man
Well done!!!❤
GUNPEI YOKOI was the guy who saw a dude playing on with a calculator on a train. Come on BRO! He's the guy who birthed the handheld generation. Get yo shit right ;)
I love Nintendo
Interesting!
music too loud, otherwise great video
im glad im not the only one who pointed it out, comment sections tend to be circlejerks
@@AVI-lh6rmthat’s kind of why the comment section exist.
What about gpd ?
Nice
Anyone selling a Neo Geo Pocket color?? I want one so so much!!
plz make new video
aaa you scared me
Nintendo is heterogeneous.
