This was the time I really followed figure skating ⛸ I met Daria she was in the stands with her guardian. Mom was on the ice but she wasn’t allowed to come to close I said hi to her and waved she was about 3 maybe 😍❤️
Years later I taught my physiology students about Segei Grinkov, showed them videos of their skating, there wasn't a dry eye in the class room, one student murmured, "he was an angel on ice, he left too soon." He did indeed, leave too soon.
I was home when my mother told me, “There’s a 28 year-old Russian skater, who died of an heart attack. Do you know him?” Immediately, only one name came to my mind: Sergei Grinkov… but I told myself, “Nah… That’s impossible! I saw him performing not long ago!” I simply didn’t want to believe it. That’s when I watched the news later that night they confirmed it was indeed Sergei! My heart dropped and my mouth was open for about 10 minutes! I was never gonna see my all-time favourite skating pair anymore. Poor Katie and poor Daria! She’ll never get to know her father 😢😢😢 I then heard they’d pay tribute to Sergei on the show and I sure didn’t want to miss it. When I say Katie skating alone, that’s when I realized Sergei was really gone. I cried throughout Katie’s performance, especially right at the end of the show. Bless You Sergei! I still miss you! 😭🕊️🥺
Adorable when they were at the grocery store....and at the gym. Such a truly beautiful, loving couple. Seems the absolute greatest love stories always end tragically...😢💔

Иногда читаю комментарии вполне зрелых женщин и диву даюсь,сколько доверчивых особ вокруг,которым легко Мозги запудрить.Естественно,ей легко можно верить на слово,мы же не видим чем она там за океаном занимается.А я вот давно(ещё со времён"Ледникового периода"), перестала ей верить.Ну нет у меня к ней доверия.НЕТ!Хоть реште меня,хоть стреляйте в меня,но лимит доверия к ней иссяк.Подлая она и лицемерная баба. Во всех своих интервью,она рассказывает как сильно любит своего Сережу по сей день а сама на могиле Гринькова за 25 лет появилась от силы раза 3-4.Хотя бывала в России каждый год,навещала своих родителей.Заметьте,исключительно только своих, с родными Сергея,его сестрой и племянницей не общалась и не общается по сей день,к родителям своего второго мужа носа не казала.Кто нибудь,когда нибудь слышал,хоть краем уха,чтобы она хоть слово говорила о своей второй свекрови,свекре и золовке.НИКОМУ и НИКОГДА.За пятнадцать лет совместной жизни она о них и словом не обмолвилась.Если не уважаешь родных своего мужа,потом не обижайся что не уважают тебя.

The death of Sergei broke my heart. Man that was horrible! I just wish that somehow he could have been checked for his heart condition. Maybe he would have lived. He didn't deserve this. I think the reporter could have handled that a little more delicately, especially the anchor (not the one who skated with them). Even now I feel sad when I think of what happened. I'm glad his wife found happiness again, although I'm sure it won't be the same as it was with Sergei. What wonderful talents they were together on the ice!
@ Amy P. To start with, he had high blood pressure and high cholesterol that he wasn’t taking medicine for. He had back pain, but his orthopedic doctor found nothing wrong. He told him to see a heart doctor but he didn’t. A stress test would have save his life. He would have had to have bypass surgery. Wish so much that he could have been saved.

Фигурное катание -это не тяжелая атлетика а партнерша(тем более такая маленькая и хрупкая)-это не штанга.Лечиться надо было,тщательно обследоваться а не купюры стричь.Вот и довела эта Катькина жажда денег и славы и халатное отношение самого Сергея к своему собственному здоровью до могилы.Сергея нет а Гордеева как жила так и живет,как сыр в масле катается да мужиков меняет,только успевай считать.

I wish that Sergei Grinkov's English not only would have been good enough, but in turn, for him to have the willingness to take on interviews. Why? Well, life is precious, and it's common for ones fame to increase when posthumous. Moreover, I am keen to know what that person was like when they were alive and the feeling I get from it, etc. And furthermore, because of the icon of figure skating he had become, he was totally interview-worthy. It would have been nice for us fans to hear his perspective on his skating turns, his mentality in going into his next skate competition with Gordeeva, etc. But of course nothing anyone would have been able to do about it then, and certainly not now with him being dead. PS - late MLB pitcher Darryl Kile is another prime example in terms of seldom giving interviews with being such a hotshot commodity, also with his death comparing well to Sergei's

Learning a language is easier for some people than others. There are people who understand a language and absolutely cannot speak it. I’m actually stunned that Katia became fluent enough to do interviews between 1988 and 1994. She picked it up very well and very quickly. But she had an English tutor as a teen and Sergei did not. Like most men he was too self conscious to practice speaking in interviews when he had this younger girl around to do it for him fluently. I’d be scared to death to do a TV interview in a foreign language and would definitely get an interpreter.
He had plenty of Russian interviews and you can see his love for his family without translation. And he did speak and mainly understand English just shy like most people tackling a new language

Alexei Cogan Newsflash sparky...I too am a journalist (BA/MA). What sets great writers and communicators apart is the intelligence and tact in which information is conveyed. This is not about not being able to take the world's harsh realities. I am also a mastered prepared nurse and witnessed death. But this is not my point. The reason people go to school for journalism is to learn and master the ability to write well. So yes, saying that this great man just dropped dead is not only in poor taste, but is medically inaccurate. The fact that you believe 'blew his brains out' and 'dropped dead' are acceptable journalism secures my suspicion you either received a very poor education or are burnt out. Your version is not about reality. It's about shock value. It's what you say to the lowest common denominator. And that is just plain wrong.
The truth is Sergei collapsed on the ice from a blocked major artery in his heart and died moments later from complications caused by a massive heart attack. So no he did not die standing up and hit the ground already dead. You ninny! You are the reason people hate Yahoo articles because they are written in poor taste with multiple inaccuracies.

I wish that Sergei Grinkov's English not only would have been good enough, but in turn, for him to have the willingness to take on interviews.
Why? Well, life is precious, and it's common for ones fame to increase when posthumous. Moreover, I am keen to know what that person was like when they were alive and the feeling I get from it, etc.
And furthermore, because of the icon of figure skating he had become, he was totally interview-worthy. It would have been nice for us fans to hear his perspective on his skating turns, his mentality in going into his next skate competition with Gordeeva, etc.
But of course nothing anyone would have been able to do about it then, and certainly not now with him being dead.
PS - late MLB pitcher Darryl Kile is another prime example in terms of seldom giving interviews with being such a hotshot commodity, also with his death comparing well to Sergei's
Scott Hamilton had said that Sergei understood English perfect, but he didn’t like to speak it.

Learning a language is easier for some people than others. There are people who understand a language and absolutely cannot speak it. I’m actually stunned that Katia became fluent enough to do interviews between 1988 and 1994. She picked it up very well and very quickly. But she had an English tutor as a teen and Sergei did not. Like most men he was too self conscious to practice speaking in interviews when he had this younger girl around to do it for him fluently. I’d be scared to death to do a TV interview in a foreign language and would definitely get an interpreter.
B C I feel I’d have the courage to do an interview in Japanese. 😉
He had plenty of Russian interviews and you can see his love for his family without translation. And he did speak and mainly understand English just shy like most people tackling a new language
