Kirk isn't dead, he was brought back. If you watch the teaser, that becomes clear. If you read Marvel Star Trek Early Voyages #13,#14,#15 you will understand a lot of what seem like random shots. This short also links to the previous OTOY Trek shorts. Colt, after meeting an alternate universe Kirk (not Kelvin or Mirror), passes through the Well of Tomorrows which is that eye looking pond. It gifts her the knowledge of all timelines and futures, which she passes to Spock through a mind meld. I guess Yor meets Spock in the Kelvin timeline and travels to the Prime universe from the Kelvin universe with Kirk's chipped insignia. That's the same one Spock had retrieved from Kirk's grave on Veridian III. When you think about it, Spock prepaid Kirk for risking everything to save him from Genesis. It's as though Spock's impending death was the catalyst to reanimate Kirk bringing about "life from death". There is so much to unpack here in this short and that is what makes it so amazing. In the end, I think it was meant to be interpreted however we want.
I don't think Saavik and her son are dead and I think Kirk was brought back to life and sent to the Kelvin universe to say goodbye to his old friend Spock.
You re correct, he was shown to be alive and in stasis in Picard S3. Mitchell helped bring him back, maybe he breathed on the embers with his god powers
Yeah - makes no sense why that alien from Discovery is in there otherwise. Couldn't see why Gary Mitchell couldnt send Kirk to the Kelvin timeline as well, if had already resurrected Kirk.
@@Paul_1971 - It's never really been made clear what Gary's powers are. He might command only matter and energy, but not time. Who knows? Even if you assume Gary can oversee and manipulate timelines, he might still choose to send Kirk to that ceremony so he can meet Spock's son.
The # is a star date. Gary Mitchel’s character was Kirk’s best friend who died from being exposed to god like powers. I believe upon Kirk’s death it was Mitchel’s character who helped transport Kick’s soul along to the ethereal plain that our souls travel through when entering and leaving our corporal incarcerations. It is this ethereal plain of frequency much of this story takes place in. And it is this ethereal plain of existence that lays just above our physical plain of existence that our souls lay out a template version of the co-created world that we then manifest into the physical reality that we are born into. It is this same template level of “all that is” that is the plain of a semi-spiritual / semi-physical reality that is the last place we experience before we incarnate through birth, as well as the first place we travel to when we pass away. Think of it is a timeless doorway where all the significant souls that will play a part of our physical lives pass through on our way into and out of our physical incarnations. It is here, in this higher plain of existence, that our over-soul manifests holographic versions of those that we love that are both still living as well as those who have already passed over. And this is here where Kirk encounters Savick and her and Spock’s son. (And yes, Ponfar would have resulted in Spock and Savick having sex that would have resulted in her having Spock’s son.) The next scene introductions the character from Discovery (an overall horrible entry into the Star Trek universe that undoubtedly have Gene Roddenberry turning over in his grave). This character does serve a crucial role as his species in the Star Trek universe is able to travel between parallel realities and thusly is able to transfer Kick’s soul to Spock’s deathbed in the Calvin timeline where the two friends can then begin their journey into the afterlife together. Also, I absolutely loved the part of Kick’s life review where he was able to choose from the 3 physical versions of his incarnation that he would use for his final journey with Spock into their next exciting journey together. As well as Spock’s eyebrow raising which so eloquently conveyed his famous “fascinating” statement without uttering a single word. So unbelievably heartwarming and beautiful. The only character whose purpose that I can’t fully explain is the girl from the original pilot so I will default to the author of this RUclips’s review as being a plausible explanation. But her presence is a nice bookend going back to the original pilot. Not to mention she is one of the beautiful women to dawn a Star Fleet uniform and I wish she would have became a part of the original series crew because let’s face it, she is stunningly pretty.
Saavik and her son is not dead, starfleet somehow revive Kirk, and somehow he managed crossed universes to the Kelvin timeline to be with his best friend.
@@robmillist - That's my understanding as well. Gary Mitchell resurrects him and sends him to Lt. Commander Yor, who (as a time warrior) can jump him to the Kelvin timeline.
@keithjeffery1974: I agree with you. Because if Saavik was dead, that would also mean that her son was dead, too, and that would mean Spock, Saavik and their son would all be dead, which would be horrible and I don't think that is what OTOY is trying to show us.
I believe, from what I have read and having seen the Supercut of this film, that it is Gary Mitchell who reanimates Kirk's remains at Daystrom Station. No one is dead in the film. However, Kirk is transported to a place where he can reunite with people from his past. Yes, that is Spock and Saavik's son, Sorak who Kirk knew nothing about but is now introduced to. Their purpose is to give Kirk the opportunity to be with Kelvin Spock at his death...and so the sun sets on these 2 old friends. The CGI masking is fantastic. Seeing Shatner reprise his role as Kirk, presumably for the last time, was so touching. Kudos to the Nimoy Estate, Shatner, Robin Curtis and Gary Lockwood for agreeing to reprise their old roles from ST.
My interpretation is that Gary Mitchel we see at the start is the key to most of this. Looks like he never died in the 2nd pilot episode 'Where no man has gone before'. We can see him floating in space in front of what seems like a huge explosions/fireball, possible he's witnessing or creating a new universe/reality? He is clearly more godlike then a human being, possible on a similar level to the Q continuum. We see his eyes close and we get to see what he sees, fragments of the death of Kirk, the actions surrounding Kirk's death and the ripple effects. So Gary decides, perhaps due to feeling a remnant of humanity and thus acts with compassion, using his god like power to resurrect Kirk's Soul/Consciousness from the moment Kirk dies on Viridian III. Then resurrected Kirk's body from the lab or creates a new body using the DNA from his corpse and proceeds to place Kirk into the garden. This is where the Unification video really starts as the camera pans down and we see Kirk's boots. I think this garden represent some kind of purgatory, a waiting place at the end of time for souls to say their last good byes before venturing into the veil of death (as the title mention both life is as important as death). That would explain the people including Savik and Spock's son that Kirk meets, the also died but at different time, as this place is at the end of time and is probably constant. From here the rest is up to Kirk, he follow the insignia that the alien time operative hand to Kirk and soon he's ported to the Kelvin time line. In the black corridor, when we see the 3 Kirks, I think that is Kirk coming to terms with key moments of his past, remembering the life he lived and finally accepting facing the greatest unknown, death itself, thus chooses to stay as his oldest self. The rest is as you see it and wonderful to watch. in short, Gary is doing this thing for Kirk similar to Q did for Picard in 'Tapestry. Q and Gary are not bound by linear time and have seemingly infinite god like powers (perhaps Gary was the first Q?). Anyways, your interpretation may differ but I'm sure we can all agree this a wonderful and proper end to two of the best fictional characters, to ever grace the silver screen and pop culture, Kirk and Spock. Live long and prosper.
the scene with Kirk sitting next to Spock on his death bed reminds me of the ST Picard episode "Remembrance" when Picard in a virtual form sits near Data as he passes away a second time. Both scenes gave me a knot in my throat lol.
For the love of all that’s holy, Kirk is not dead. it’s all clearly shown. Mitchell using his god powers to maybe blow on the embers. Kirk already shown to be alive and in some sort of coma stasis in Picard. Colt, after her experiences with the phenomena in the New Voyages comics (shown in the first short) becoming a time agent bridging universes, Yor being the vessel to physically bridge the universes The shorts spell this all out very clearly if you pay attention. Savvik isn’t dead nor is her and Spock’s son. OTOY has the technology to have them speak, it was an artistic decision not to have dialogue and it was far more beautiful for it. Best Trek in 35 years to me, it breaks me everytime I’ve seen it
@paulcarpenter999 it doesn't contradict any established Canon. Gary Mitchell who is a cosmic being who evolved to have god like powers J.M. Colt who is now a Inter-dimensional traveler and yor the time soldier who can cross time and space at any point in the timeline.
@Rob-z7k it waa implied that Saavik was pregnant with Spock's baby, after he went thru ponfarr with Saavik on the planet Genesis. David is dead. At the gathering those were real living breathing people. This wasnt the afterlife or the Nexus. Kirk was in flesh living and breathing.
Remember what Guinan said, a part of you never leaves the Nexus. To me, this was the Kirk left within the Nexus who then to him only a couple seconds have past, but is now updated via the Nexus to the point where Spock is about to die a century later (in the prime timeline) which is why Spock is entering that realm looking so old.
@darringgreen8630: If this was the Kirk echo left in the Nexus, then the Kirk echo would still have had his Starfleet badge on when you first saw him walking in that field becaue Kirk's echo never left the Nexus to help Picard in Star Trek Generations. Plus, I thought echos of people never left the Nexus? This has to be the Prime Kirk we see walking because Prime Kirk did not have his Starfleet badge on when we first see him (since Picard took Kirk's Starfleet badge and put it on top of the rocks after burying Kirk at the end of Star Trek Generations).
Not many reactors have mentioned this but during the credits a list of people Characters standing in the garden was put on screen and one of those characters name is "Crusher"; just Crusher, not Beverly or Wesley but Kirk does not interact with this Crusher. I wonder what that is all about. With Wesley's time traveling abilities it makes sense that it could be him.
I think Kirk is rejuvenated by god-like Gary Mitchell who appears young, as in the TOS, and aged as the white-haired demigod (the actual actor, Gary Lockwood in his '80's) who greets Kirk before he encounters that crowd. Kirk then encounters himself at several ages before joining Spock at his death-bed. It implies that Kirk is now alive for future activities! Proto-planet young Spock was going through Pon Phar (sp?) so mating with Saavik is not unexpected.
I remember way back in the early 80s when I watched the wrath of Khan in that film spock also died once before the first time that spock died was when he sacrificed his own life to save the crew of the enterprise from being blown to kingdom come by the genesis explosion and in star trek 3 spock was brought back to life being happily reunited with the enterprise crew in the wrath of Khan spock died a true dedicated fearless hero who saved the crew of the enterprise
It is beautifully done and shot, so artistic and with no spoken words (which is how the conscious communicate in the after life). To me it is Kirk in the afterlife as he is met by deceased people from his life. I am impressed at how the deepfake conveyed human emotions, a soul. I was quite emotional.
Ummmm. You missed a lot in that short film. Kirk was not in the afterlife. The film references Generations Picard Search for Spock Discovery TOS Beyond The previous short film Spock went to pay respect to Kirk after he dies. Kirk was brought back and was given the same opportunity. They have been and always will friends
I smiled, I cried…. A circle is closed now, I did not knew it was there. And I needed this so much… Soon I will be fifty. My whole life I’m into Star Trek. The end of Generations and this masterpiece of Otoy, conclude thirty years off my life. I could not be more grateful ❤✨🥹
I was quite surprised at who was missing from that crowd around the fountain: McCoy, Uhura, Scotty, David Marcus (Kirk's SON), Carol Marcus, etc. A small quibble, tho.
Thanks for explaining that photo frame; I didn't know what it was since I only saw it closed there. The medallion lying next to it is one that Nimoy wore in one or two episodes, I think. It is supposed to represent the Vulcan philosophy of IDIC.
I think it’s possible there short flims Otoy are doing is going tie into the 60th anniversary. And we may the the prime universe find out about the existence of the kelvin timeline. And discover the final fate of Spock.
I just think Kirk has been resurrected thanks to the whole Project Phoenix thing. This is his chance to say goodbye to his friend, and perhaps Kirk goes on more adventures. It stands to reason that Spock would set in motion the resurrection of Kirk before he left for the Kelvin timeline.
Basically The Ghost Of Main Universe Kirk after dying in front of Picard in The Main Timeline during Star Trek Generations pays Main Universe Spock a visit in his death bed on New Vulcan within The Kelvin Alternate Timeline sometime before the events of Star Trek Beyond.
I dont get, why soooo many reactors say that Kirk is dead and thats his version of afterlife? Its obvious...Gary Mitchell resurected Kirk. His body was at Daystrom institue so MAYBE yoman Colt contacted Gary. Asuming from The first shortfilm, were Colt mindmelts with Spoc, during The Motion Picture and now seeing her at Daystrom 150 years later and also in the Teaser, wearing the Kelvin Uniform, she has to be a Timeagent. So Gary, Yor and Colt had to resurect Kirk to send him, to see his friend one last time
They’re lazy, it’s all clearly shown. Mitchell using his god powers to maybe blow on the embers. Kirk already shown to be alive and in some sort of coma stasis in Picard. Colt, after her experiences with the phenomena in the New Voyages comics becoming a time agent bridging universes, Yor being the vessel to physically bridge the universes The shorts spell this all out very clearly if you pay attention. If Kirk was dead then his son would have been there, Carol, Edith Keller, his brother, etc etc.
Ive commented before, this is more William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy and their love and admiration for each other as actors and friends. They deal with death as Kirk died on screen and Leonard died in real life.
On first watch, I thought this was Kirk's Afterlife as well. But there are extensive deep-dive clues that suggest otherwise: - If you watch all of the OTOY productions, which amount to less than 15 minutes, Yeoman Colt seems to be some kind of nexus being. A Traveller perhaps? If you go back to 3:33 in this video, she is clearly up to something next to Kirk's body at Daystrom Institute. And she's using technology, not godlike powers to do it. - You need a god-like being from our universe for help in this project? That could be where Gary Mitchell comes in. Do you really think Kirk managed to permanently kill off his Q-like friend with a rock? And despite all that happened, Mitchell probably still cares for Kirk. - The Betelgeusian in the garden scene is named Yor, a confirmed 24th century time soldier from the Kelvin universe involved in the Temporal Wars. He eventually dies from effects of travelling too far ahead in time within our universe in 3189. Kovich talks about him in the Discovery episode featuring the Guardian of Forever. It's very feasible Spock and Yor struck a friendship in the Kelvin universe, since Yor likely knows his real identity, accomplishments, and destiny. How I believe it comes together: We are reminded Spock took some personal mementos with him into the Kelvin universe, including the closed photograph sitting on his bedside table of our universe's Enterprise crew. Since we saw him retrieve Kirk's Starfleet insignia that Picard placed on his grave on Veridian in the last OTOY episode, it is likely Spock has that with him in the Kelvin universe. Spock likely gave the insignia to Yor near the time of his death. In our universe, Colt resurrects Kirk's body at the Daystrom Institute, while Mitchell restores his soul. With their combined efforts, he wakes up at the garden where Saavik and Yor are waiting. Saavik is important because she is the mother of Spock's son, seen in the background (looking a bit emotional? Hmm...), and it makes sense they are at the start of his journey. Yor gives Kirk the insignia, which you may remember he didn't relinquish until Kirk was holding it tightly. Through Yor and probably other characters' efforts, the insignia returns to the Kevin universe, taking Kirk with it. But notice he doesn't complete the journey until he accepts what is going on and puts the insignia on his chest, like the two younger selves he encountered. He ends up at Spock's deathbed in the Kelvin universe, possibly fulfilling Spock's final wish to be with his friend one last time. The question is where do we go from here?...
Wow... So many different people have so many different takes on what they think is happening in 765874 - Unification. I have my take on it as well, but I allow for mine to be totally incorrect. Until OTOY and/or The Roddenberry Archive comes out and says what's going on, I have to just ignore what most people think because it's just way too confusing... However, there are things that have already been established from previous works that include *_The Cage, Where No Man Has Gone Before, the Early Voyages Comic Books_* four-comic book arc ("Futures: Part One", "Future Tense", "Futures: Part Three" and "Now and Then") that involves Yeoman J Mia Colt being sent to an alternate future, *_Star Trek: Generations", "Star Trek Beyond"_* and, of course, the *_OTOY shorts_* ("765874", "765874 - Memory Wall", "765874 - Regeneration") that obviously culminate in "765874 - Unification".
Sorry bro its not the afterlife it actually takes place directly after Star Trek Picard. J.M. Colt retrieves Kirk's partially revived body thanks to Section 31's Project Phoenix at the behest of Gary Mitchell who fully revives Kirk. The people gathererd because they were summoned. Kirk is sent to the kelvin timeline via the memory wall. He encounters various aspects of himself at different points in time. Then he comes New Vulcan to Spock's beside. To see him pass on.
Its a good theory, but its kind of unnecessary for this film in my opinion. The film could have started on the drone shot coming down into the garden, as if Kirks spirit entering heaven/the nexus right after his death in Generations.
Lots of people saying Kirk is alive in this and is reunited with Spock in the Kelvin timeline. We know Spock eventually dies in that timeline, so what happens then to Kirk? It makes more sense (surely?) if Kirk is dead and it's his spirit that is with his friend at the end of his life in the Kelvin timeline. Is it the intention of this short film to be ambiguous? If so, it is lazy writing. Strictly my own opinion of course.
Can anyone answer this - why was Saviks character in the afterlife and Not Kirks own son David? This doesnt make sense! You would expect to see your kid who died before you to be there!
The beauty of this film is because there is zero dialogue or exposition and the film is silent, its open to interpretation. Everyone seems to have a slightly different take on it.
But isn't what you say, "Spock's son" on the genis planet, not Spock himself just without his katra? Isn't it more likely that it's Sarek, Spock's father?
This could've been much better if it had dialogue, there were moments where Kirk and others would've spoken but didn't but then again deep fakes are great, however when you had dialogue, it clearly shows hor fake it is... This does, however show what's possible, could we see a future where Kirk and other now older and/or deceased actors return?
I don't think this is a spiritual representation of Kirk because how could a spirit physically interact with the flesh and bones of a person who is still living? Kirk and Spock are clasping hands in friendship, and I don't think that would be possible if Kirk was a spirit.
This is not "amazing". This is just AI-generated nonsense. The fact that everyone is watching this and having multiple orgasms is completely and utterly bizarre to me.
Looks good but the past, as in dead actors, on the whole needs to be left where it is. Leonard Nimoy is dead, as are many ToS actors - their time has come and gone and that should respected.
It was respected, Bill was involved as we're Leonards wife and family. Maybe it was important to Bill? He never got to say goodbye to Leonard. There is a interview with Bill we're he goes into what happened
I know the Nimoy family was involved...but I don't likening dead people in film. period. no matter what. Star Wars made it very weird years ago. Let the dead stay dead and let them rest.
I feel like I may be the only one who didn’t like this at all. Yes, it was technically well done, but I found myself rolling my eyes at the entire concept. I was waiting for something more than what this was and was disappointed.
The Kelvin universe ruined Star Trek. Just leave it alone. There was only one Star Trek and bullshit like this makes it worse. Go finish screwing up Star Wars.

I wonder what that is all about. With Wesley's time traveling abilities it makes sense that it could be him.
This was fantastic!
Kirk brought back, possibly by Gary's character. Meets with Saavik and son to see a passing Spock.

😳 Stunning film. Just fantastic work... 👏
I smiled, I cried….
A circle is closed now, I did not knew it was there. And I needed this so much…
Soon I will be fifty.
My whole life I’m into Star Trek.
The end of Generations and this masterpiece of Otoy, conclude
thirty years off my life.
I could not be more grateful ❤✨🥹
Somehow, I missed where I can see this film. Obviously, the commenters here have seen it. Are you saying it’s on RUclips? Where can I locate a copy?
It was a work of art. Thanks to OTOY and all those who worked on it.
There was in fact one line of dialogue, taken directly from one of the movies.
If there was one line of dialog I would like to have heard was Spock look up and say "Jim".
I said the same, and after he raised his eye brow, last words are fascinating.
It is very similar to the “Et in Arcadia ego” death of Data with a younger Picard.
Where can I watch this?
I just assumed this was Kirk's fantasy of Spock, I got the feels anyhow. ;)
please more and kirk isnt dead ! i hope they do more
How good is this!!!
Who do you think set all this in motion, Gary Mitchel!
Colt, after her experiences with the phenomena in the New Voyages comics becoming a time agent bridging universes, Yor being the vessel to physically bridge the universes
The shorts spell this all out very clearly if you pay attention.
I think that's Gary Mitchell hovering over the great Barrier
Kirk isn't in the afterlife. He is in present or at least up to the time of Spock's death.
On first watch, I thought this was Kirk's Afterlife as well. But there are extensive deep-dive clues that suggest otherwise:
- If you watch all of the OTOY productions, which amount to less than 15 minutes, Yeoman Colt seems to be some kind of nexus being.
How I believe it comes together:
We are reminded Spock took some personal mementos with him into the Kelvin universe, including the closed photograph sitting on his bedside table of our universe's Enterprise crew.
Well done.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
The crowd is most likely the medical team that brought KIRK back to life. Saavik might be part of the project.
Bringing Kirk back to life probably involved Genesis technology. Saavik and her son probably continued Carol Marcus's research.
I don't think Kirk was dead. I believe it is something to do with project Phoenix.
Could it be that the Gary Mitchel character didn't in fact die, is a God, and maybe he's hovering over the NEXUS? Perhaps he set it in motion?
Its a good theory, but its kind of unnecessary for this film in my opinion. The film could have started on the drone shot coming down into the garden, as if Kirks spirit entering heaven/the nexus right after his death in Generations.
I actually like 'coolguys' interpretation - that makes more sense to me@@Sci-Finatics
In the Nexus, you can never go forward, only back.
This is the second time Kirk sees Spock dies!
I know this was a silent film but wouldnt it have been great if kirk had said the you have always been and always shall be my friend line of dialogue.
I'm sorry, why does everybody keep complaining about the deep faith? It was one of the most flawless I've ever seen. Am I missing something?
Lots of people saying Kirk is alive in this and is reunited with Spock in the Kelvin timeline. We know Spock eventually dies in that timeline, so what happens then to Kirk?
It makes more sense (surely?) if Kirk is dead and it's his spirit that is with his friend at the end of his life in the Kelvin timeline.
Is it the intention of this short film to be ambiguous? If so, it is lazy writing. Strictly my own opinion of course.
Whats next...Brandon Lee reuniting with his dad Bruce Lee? Id like to see that!
They're not dead....., Kirk is alive, so he can meet Spock before he die....I think that's the point...
Can anyone answer this - why was Saviks character in the afterlife and Not Kirks own son David? This doesnt make sense! You would expect to see your kid who died before you to be there!
What about Scotty? Uhura? Bones? Savik is an odd choice when you think of the possible alternatives...
I think you’re off. It’s not the afterlife. Kirk is back somehow and travels across universes
The beauty of this film is because there is zero dialogue or exposition and the film is silent, its open to interpretation. Everyone seems to have a slightly different take on it.
@ true. Just seemed less like the afterlife since the time agent from the kelvin universe was there
But isn't what you say, "Spock's son" on the genis planet, not Spock himself just without his katra?
Sorry but deep fakes still look a little weird to me.
Totally unnecessary without an actual solid narrative. Perhaps Starfleet Academy will explain it
I know the Nimoy family was involved...but I don't likening dead people in film. period. no matter what. Star Wars made it very weird years ago. Let the dead stay dead and let them rest.
I thought the film was well made just disappointed they didn’t get an established Trek writer to do a decent script.
