- It is believed that right before Sargent started a painting he would say, "“You Ever Danced With the Devil in the Pale Moonlight?” and then he would proceed to paint the hell out of a pearl necklace. Maybe I'm misremembering. What is undebatable is that the same deal that Paganini struck with some hellish spawn to play the violin, was struck by Sargent to paint the way he did. It is the ONLY explanation! Today we paint an infernal Sargent with a couple of earth reds and two accents of magenta. I think it helped that I used an Ouija board as my palette (I don't think I can fit any more devilish references so I'm going to stop here)

Love the work you both do as always! (And I hope your travels as of this comment date are going well) I just have a silly question you may have answered elsewhere: is blending oil paint with your bare finger like that dangerous at all?
I see you're using liquin, aren't you worried about it's toxicity/fumes?
quick question, how doyou close your sketchbook, do you wait for the painting to dry

The best idea I had for getting a fresh look on something is to paint it upside down, however it can be hard to do from life, and it works only once for each conditions :D
I think this paint is amazing! So captivating 👏
