Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and others couldn't walk away empty-handed after spending a large span of their childhood on the sets of different Harry Potter films.
They didn’t steal anything, they let each actor take one thing from the set to keep after the film’s ended. Also because so many actors basically gave up their whole childhood for the Harry Potter series
Actors spend a lot of time on set and it could be pretty natural for them to get attached to their character’s belongings. So Sneakily or openly, many actors in Hollywood has taken home some of the most iconic props of their films.
They didn’t steal them they got to keep the characters things for example: Daniel Radcliffe got to keep Harry’s wand and the glasses and the cloak Rupert Grint got to keep Ron’s wand and the cloak Hermione got to keep her wand her time turner and her cloak All the other students got to keep their wands and cloaks All the professors and adults got to keep their wands
Emma, Daniel and Rupert....how can they leave the memories of Harry Potter...when we fans... Can never manage to forget these moments associated with our childhood... Actually they deserve to take the props as a memory...so precious
I'm pretty sure that 90% of the actors were allowed to keep their wands. Also...Alan, Alan, Alan, you sneaky little devil. We miss you very much. (11/17/2021)
Stealing props from those films is like getting a bonus check for the actors. They knew how big the fandom was and that those props they could "acquire" would be worth quite a bit.
Just thinking about the possibility of Alan Rickman wearing the Snape Cape in the comfort of his own home, walking around all proud like a slytherin, makes me so happy lol
I would have loved to have Voldemort's silk robes, and Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem. Would have made a brilliant combo. Edit: And the flying key from the Sorcerer's Stone (although that was probably only cgi), and the Golden Snitch that opens from The Deathly Hallows part 2.
Wow... They did so many movies and they weren't gifted more props from each film? I seen an interview with the LOTR's cast and they have so many things you wouldn't imagine they'd be allowed to take!
As someone who works in the Props department, it is so annoying when cast take props! The rule of thumb for us is: One is None. We HAVE to have doubles, and sometimes dozens, of of everything. Not just because they get stolen, but because stuff breaks (especially in shows where there is a lot of action) and we always need back ups. That being said, a good prop master will make one or two extra to have 'stolen' by their cast member. But sometimes the budget doesn't allow for that. We try to give the cast memorabilia as best we can. But if stuff is stolen that we didn't account for, it can cause serious issues for us!!
When she said that Rupert stole the flying car from the philosophers stone i got all potter head on her and was like "It was the chamber of secrets ACTUALLY" 😂
I have never gone back to search “the making of” HP after they ended but years later here I am in a black hole of random and funny facts about the cast and films. I keep finding out new things years later!
Honestly every actor has taken props from set. One of my best friends has acted in many tv shows and she just shows me her entire prop case. The director of the show knew abt her taking the props but he didn’t care that she did because almost everybody did it.
When we went to Harry Potter world there was a sign they said “these are the Harry Potter glasses” (something like that) and we think someone had stolen then because they weren’t there😂
When I was in high school, we did Cinderella and I was in it. The actor who played Sebastian bought a mask with a long nose that he thought fit the character better than the ones the school had for the masquerade, but, like everyone involved in something like that, someone chose that mask to be their "stolen prop". Sebastian was mad! To this day I do not know of he ever got it back... also, I have an entire wall of stolen props from the sets, including the raccoon puppet I puppeteered for Cinderella(actually bought that one) 😊.
If I was in hogwarts, and could've swiped, I would have taken my wand, cloak/robe/uniform and an item of sorts other than wand. Or hat too. They should have let them keep their stuff. The philosopher's stone would have been cool to keep
Why should the actors who stole items be given those items? Some people stole em. And to be quite honest we dont even know if the things were actually stolen. If they did steel the things thats like a doctor stealing a ventilator because they have worked in a hospital for many years. These things come out of someone's money and as such don't be stupid and steal items or back up people who steel. You may think that persons deserved the items they "stole" but they are PAID actors. They have already be paid what they deserved. I think we need to remember some things otherwise people are just... 1. Stealing of any kind is wrong. 2. Just because you deserve something does not mean it is yours or that you will have it.
Dude how much did Alan Rickman steal? Like goddamn. Lmao. He was also the only cast member who knew what would happen with his character in the later books/movies after asking J.K. Rowling about it while filming the first two films. He said he needed to know for his performance so that he could show little hints of Snape’s true nature through different intricacies. (This is not the quote FYI.)
@ZainabAlBalushi I like to think Alan gave some of those Hogwarts letters to his nieces and nephews, all of whom begged him to take the role when he was first approached about it. (11/17/2021)

It’s more of a thing that people know happens and executive producers sort of looked either way. Oh you have to think for Props like Wands or the time tuner. Oh they would have numerous versions of them on Set just if case something breaks..
From what I've heard online tons of wands were broken during filming, so I think it's safe to assume that they probably had a ton of wands lying around, it would have been nice if every actor could have kept their wands when filming wrapped for their character for the final time.
Depends on the contracts they had. For the things they were allowed to get, for sure not. I also do not think the car was stolen. Maybe he even bought it, he had plenty of money. For the letters, I doubt. There were so many, a couple of letters will not be an issue. It seems to me that the people who asked for things were the ones going empty handed. If I were them, I would have tried to take sth. as well. It is just stupid to wait until the end to be allowed to take one object. Some of them didn't get to the end....
The actors resemble thrir charactors so much that i wonder if playing those roles at that early age and for years may have molded them into their caracters
