Completely Overhaul the Lighting in FS22 with Relight!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 фев 2025
- Relight is a brilliant new mod from Suchsneak which completely overhauls the lighting and colours in the game without the need for a third party program such as Reshade which takes extra processing power and impacts on performance. The difference in this compared to the based game lighting is great, with much more being done to enhance the lighting and colours on vehicles and the environment. If you like to work with mods that add to the realism of the game, this should definitely be on your list.
NOTE: This is currently not a mod you put into your mod folder, but you must manually add it to the maps you would like to have Relight installed on. this may change in the future. If you have no experience of editing mods for FS or editing XML files please take care and ALWAYS take a backup of your files before you start making changes.

The weakness of shadows and bland darkening of vehicles at sunrise and sunset have been my biggest gripes with the lighting engine. This is amazing, and the fact that it doesn’t have hardly any impact on performance is brilliant!
Totally mate, such a huge difference
Same. This is awesome we have Reshade for FS22
OMG such an amazing simple change. Giants talk with Suchsneak and get in Base game lighting system 2.0. As usual FSG fantastic stuff, you have elevated the FS community to a new level with all you do. Comigrates 👏👏👏👏
Glad you like it Raymond, nice to hear from you, I hope you are doing good!
been following the progress on reddit, awesome to see it released
Added it to Middleburgh. A visual game changer. Love it. Would be nice if Giants would financially compensate Suchsneak for his effort and improve the lighting for all players by default based on his work.
👀
what download did you use the standlone
@@crazywolf8760 When I downloaded version 1.0, there was just the mapfiles variant. With 1.3 now I think standalone is the way to go.
Looks great! The details that were missing without this mod really show now. Awesome work Suchsneak 🌞
We have needed something like this to enhance the scenery in Fs 22 for awhile. Very nice mod. Thanks for sharing the vid.
Hi FSG. This is amazing. Something that has been missing from FS. Looking forward to adding this to all of my maps.
Enjoy it KC, the difference is stunning
A fantastic showcase of Relight - I'm also a big fan. Great details on how to implement it. Thanks for sharing!
Just implemented this onto green valley, I’m very impressed, I’ll definitely be tinkering around with other maps. Thanks for the help.
As someone who’s had nothing but headaches with reshade, this mod is a welcome light to my day. Thanks for the video, Sir.
Game changer for Reshade players I think 😊😊👍
@@TheFarmSimGuy Indeed. With reshade, my game would crash 2 our of 3 attempts before being able to even start the game. Add to that it made my menus look really weird. I managed to get some nice looks out of it in game, but I uninstalled it as it was not worth the hassle.
Just got home from the road so I am excited to try this out today :)
This is exactly what I needed. Always felt the game felt dull, something about the sky/horizon and missing those deep orange sunsets. This came up on my recommended feed, definitely earned a subscription from me. I'm part of the FSG family now :D
Welcome Fordimus great to have you here!
WOW. I stumbled across this video and went straight to the link in your description to download. Now, suchsneak (thanks to another modder) has it working as a normal mod where you can just put it in your mod folder and...VOILA! I cannot believe what a difference this makes. I am definitely a player who chooses mods for realism and this makes the game look and feel so more lifelike. I am going to make a donation to both suchsneak and the other person who helped merge it into a normal mod. Giants should really be compensating him for improving their game so much.
Forgot to mention - I am using it on Griffin, IN map
Wow, added to Iowa Plains and it makes it so much more interesting to look at. I see way more detail on the vehicles too, and this is on a mid spec system.
Will be adding to every map I play.
Glad you're enjoying it :)
And the lighting is absolutley stunning
Oh heck Yes, Also thanks for giving my map Gnadenthal a shout out (Gnaden tal)
My pleasure dude, great map 👍
Wow that looks better than any shader I've seen for this game. I'll definitely be adding this.
And zero impact on perfornace too, it's awesome
@@TheFarmSimGuy Yes! That's another thing that I liked about it. Thank you for doing this video.
Vehicles look photo realistic with that mod looks sick
This looks so good. Thanks for sharing this FSG
Cheers buddy!
Fantastic start to the video really great intro FSG!
Thanks buddy
This looks very interesting... I've been trying to improve the base lighting for over 8 months now and although made some small improvements I haven't got as far as Suchsneak. Would love to have a chat with him about this as he's obviously as nutty as I am about the trying to improve the base game lighting.
Hey Bill, you should, he definitely knows his stuff! he's over on Reddit quite a lot
Hello :)
@@suchsneak3545 Thank you for sharing this info on the Environment lighting for Fs22.
If you were interested in comparing notes let me know. You would be more than welcome in the Frontier Design discord.
@Mac Plays yes!
Wow, what a difference, the smoothness of the transition from dark to light is amazing, always felt really jaggy/jumpy before. Can't wait to get this into every map I've got!
Blah
What a great mod this will be. I will wait for it to be released. I’m no good at editing files etc.
I agree that the game colours are almost cartoon like. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks Paul 👍
Thank you FSG can't wait to use this when I get my new laptop. Be game changer that's for sure.
Thanks for sharing FSG! Looking forward to giving this mod a go
Looking fine to me! Now I cannot even find my tractor in the dark night xD Incredibly amazing mod the sir has created and shared with us. It requires a bit of work with the xml and stuff, but as long as it's just that, it's ok. Hoping for a mod zip release as well :) Thanks for sharing :)
That's incredible wow! Amazing.
Very impressive. Like that it is achieved without post processing the game output
Yes that's a huge bonus that there's no impact on performance
Just beautiful m8 ❤️❤️ Nice show case 👍
Thank you kindly brian
@@TheFarmSimGuy your welcome as always
Just added this to Green Valley and WOW 🤩 Giants must make this a mod if not a permanent environment option 👍
great video explaining relight and how to do it. hope to see more improvements down the road
Thanks bud appreciate it 👍
Love it 👍🏻 Amazing work and will use it 😍
I just added this to Green Valley Nebraska and got a whole 40fps boost inside the main green valley farm. Usually it takes a hit down to 40ish but I get a solid 75-80 now with all my vehicles parked there.
Oooh I'll have to give it a go too, that is interesting
Looks Amazing!!!! Thank you for sharing this with us. You are awesome my friend, even if you talk funny.....lol
A voice of a god imo lol
Haha, thanks Javier 😂
Reminds me of Enb lighting mods for Games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 with out complicated setting. This will be awesome running 4k on rtx 3080.
The guy has do a fantastic job with this mod very impressive indeed and nicely presented FSG as well 👏👏👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Couldn't agree more Peter it's a fantastic upgrade for the game!
Since I've got a nvidia-graphic-card, I already did it by myself with the nvidia-shader (and some help of a youTuber...😉).
But for all those who don't have the chance to work with the nvidia-software, this mod should be awesome.
Thanks a lot for showing! 😊👍🏻
But don’t forget nvidia shaders do effect performance
what settings you use in nvidia shaders ? :)
Wow I hope it comes out as a mod for all platforms
So far, I have been using OxygenDavid's xml's (they were released publicly by him, to avoid any unnecessary comments), which improved the saturation in the color of trees in autumn and it was a much better visually aesthetic result. But this here looks like an all-round overhaul and I can't wait to see how much more it improves the game! Will be definitely giving this a go.
Still, one can't help but think, considering that this bloke used resources already in-game, why couldn't Giants do that already? I would not be surprised if the word "consoles" is hiding somewhere in the answer to the above question. Cheers FSG for bringing this and all the other amazing mods and maps to our attention.
My theory is that after finishing FS19 (that looked pretty good and almost real with mods) they began work on their mobile 2020 release. It definately looked simplified, maybe cartoony. Either during FS20 version or FS22 they added an ambient lighting effect used to light up most objects, which can be a great way to fake bounce lighting that happens in real life but in FS22 this effect is very hard to control and even on low strength it completely overpowers other light sources which makes vehicles feel very flat and overly bright. But of course it's all just speculation, I can understand the choices they made and just chalk it up to personal taste. Every artist is gonna do something different
Looks amazing
This looks epic well done to the creator for a version 1 it's stunning
I usually rush my projects but I learned to take my time. It was important to make a good first impression. Glad you like it :)
@@suchsneak3545 it really is epic well done prob up there with the best mods ever for fs 22
I don’t need it, I don’t need it,

Wow just wow, I'm speechless.
Amazing work 👏 I look forward to seeing more from the author.
I still only rock with 19 due to the lighting on 22 being horrible. First day it came out could already tell it was going to disappoint many people. Hopefully this mod gets me on 22
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This mod is so good but sunny days so bright, the image looks raw.If he turned down the glare a little it would be perfect.
Pure gold, donated :)
Much appreciated good sir ;)
this is amazing, and on his page its out now as a mod :D
Works very well for me. Thank you. 👍
Well This modification should make people with GTX Cards my self included absolutely happy!!! But What I want to see is the experience that u get with this feature+ RTX activated!!!🔥
Looks amazing and great presentation.
Unfortunately I think it's a bit above my pay grade with my extremely limited computer knowledge
As long as you make a copy of the map before you start editing it Mathew you should be OK
This is nice thank you for showing us
My pleasure 😊
I will be waiting for a download and drop in version. Looks amazing though
It's coming way earlier than I thought. Currently testing it and we ironed out the loading issues. It might come in next day. Stay tuned :)
If it's so easy why don't giants just implement it into base game, always puzzles me when players do a better job than the devs. One question -- If I play on a MP Hosted server. Can I change my "local" copy of the map to include this or do I have to change it on the server and then force everyone else to download my modded version of the map?
Nevermind -- Just gone to the download page, and it's now just a MOD, no need for all this editing :)
Damn I thought this would be a drop in folder mod I’m lost lol it looks really good though 👍
It is now, check the itch page
damn that's awesome
God, I don’t know if I’m brave enough to give this a go in case I muck up my map!😮
Make a copy of your map Chris then if you do mess it up you can just copy the original back to your mod folder.
@@TheFarmSimGuy yes saw that in your video! Will have to carefully have to see how I do that aswell. New to this PC business 😂
Standalone version is comimg sooner than anticipated, stay tuned :)
@@suchsneak3545 amazing!! Really looking forward to this!! Great work and effort!!
Need to check Hof Bergmann lighting. If you have map in the mod folder and use additional game settings mod. It’s impressive plus you have long summer days and short winter like real life.
Hey!! I'll be sure to check it out, Hof is a great map
I am speechless
So was I when I first saw it.
That is absolutely amazing! It brings the game on another level. Will it be available for console?
Theoretically it can be applied by map authors since it's basically just a bunch of parameters for lighting the environment. So hopefully you might see some of your favorite maps adopt the settings
@@suchsneak3545 I saw a comment which said that giants we speaking with the modder so it might even be implemented in base game maps
Suchsneak is the modder who created it 😂🙂👍
@@TheFarmSimGuy Lmao yes I didn't notice🤣🤣🤣
So cool thank you Sir. Sorry for your countries loss.
Thanks Tech! I appreciate it
I use Relight on every map, but I was just wondering if you if have ever messed with the Reshade app, then some of the FS22 presets that can be downloaded?
Thanks for this video, I noticed there are 2 files - Relight Standalone v.1300 and another Relight Standalone Proshot fix v.1300. Which one do we install both or just one ?
Very confusing on how to put in folder when I save the file it wants to save as a txt file and not an xml file.
change the .txt to .xml after you've saved it. but since this video now it's just a downloadable mod so just use that 👍
Can I ask with some maps why it closes the game when getting to 20%. I'm playing Somerset Farms and when I add this the map loads to 20% then closes the whole game down.
I have it working with other maps just not my Series I'm doing.
Thanks in advanced
Reaper
Hi Reaper, I think that you might be putting the files in the wrong place, I've done it a couple of times updating my maps, the other thing is not to copy the readme file over too that can sometimes cause a problem
@@TheFarmSimGuy deffo right place as i have it working on others maps just not somerset farms map. Its really odd.
Lighting in FS22 is years behind the industry standard. It makes the game look flat. This mod looks very promising. Immersion is important to me in sims. Lighting is a core part of that.
100% agree with you on that!
Looks beautiful. Any mods for making the rain more realistic?
Nothing like that yet Frank, although the expansion has some new eather effects I believe
@@TheFarmSimGuy Looking forward to see it. Thank you.
I use Reshade and it works just as great.
Reshade does put extra load on you CPU whereas relight doesn’t as it’s built into the game 👍
As someone pretty new to the game, I’m a bit lost with the installation instructions, they seem a bit vague. I’m installing to Elm Creek, I only play offline and using steam version. Where do I find the file(s)? Inside steam, steam apps, common? Then…? Appreciate any assistance, thanks.
Check the download page again, The modder has just released a version for the base game maps, this one was for modded maps
My main problem with FS22.. aside from how it feels just like FS19.5, is how some colors, but especially the damn trees are so over saturated. It's really apparent when they are far out in the LOD range. It's a blaring issue that completely ruins the experience for me honestly. Everything looks so damn good in the game, but then you have these trees that cast no shadows on themselves really, and just blast your eyes with this reflective bright pastel color.
It's semi fixable with Reshade, but you loose depth of color overall trying to compensate for it. This mod definitely helps too, but does not solve the over arching issue
hi there, (probably i did something wrong here) but when i followed your vid 3 times, the map mod won't show up in the map selection screen when creating a new savegame. FS22 doesn't recognise the mod anymore after the change,
Tried with:
-No mans land map
-Hobos hallow 4x map
No change:
FS22 sees the mod map
after placing relight into the rar file (top folder so no sub folder)
and copy and pasting the:
With change:
FS22 sees no mod map:
(in the in-game mod menu aswell as in the map selection when creating a new savegame)
i'm clueless what i did wrong :D thanks
SO..... for those who have the same issue, and i noticed now xD don't forget to when you are ZIPPING the files and folders.. you select ZIP instead op .RAR file !!
Correct, glad you sorted it 👍
can i add relight to a base game map?
It's more difficult as they are embedded in the game code, but shouldn't be impossible
I'll get back to you, I made the mod on elm creek so it does work, I'll find out how to do it properly and get back to you. Modding vanilla maps are a bit more risky since you won't be able to join multiplayer of another elm creek since your version is different than theirs. It's great for singleplayer tho. I don't know if it's allowed to repackage vanilla maps with Relight on the main hub but if it is I might do that for a safer option
@@TheFarmSimGuy it's pretty easy actually, i did the same thing that you did to the modded maps and works fine!
Check the relight mod page, updated vanilla compatible version was added, it's simpler to install than the mod map version since I can predict the file paths. Hope that helps :)
@@suchsneak3545 i did by myself earlier, but thanks anyway
Just out of curiosity. Ive added this into Stone Valley but now when i go onto mod hub it says it needs updating. Is this to do with this mod ?
Yes becuase you have changed the file, the modhub checks to see if it matches the one in the modhub, and if it doesn't it will say it requires updating, you can ignore it, it won't affect anything
Yeah i thought as much. Greatly appreciate the reply
Looks kinda like Cattle and Crops light dynamics in FS22 with Relight.
the evening is far too dark. sorry but as long as the sky is orange, your field is not pitch black. especially not at 19:26 in middle europe in summer
I was fading out the end of the video in the edit
The mod page for this on FS22 mods. Doesn`t have any installation instructions so I`m a bit confused on what to do here.
''At this time Relight works by being placed inside a mod map root folder and after a single xml line tweak works with no issue in multiplayer for everybody who has the same copy of the map.'' So what this need to be installed by map devs on their own maps only? I can`t say choose to have this installed by default?
Use the stand alone version and activate it like any other mod
@@TheFarmSimGuy Thank you, :)
Looks great - thanks for the review. I'm playing on the new 2x Western Australia map, which is set with a latitude of -25 degrees. So summer - with long days and summer lighting - is in December. Do you know if it will adjust to that?
It should Ravens, give it a go and let me knowthe results 👍
Eventually I would like to take a look at seasonal variations to help give maps unique looks based on desert or arctic climates. Right now it's just a generic every map kinda preset. Still try it out and see what happens.
Hi, love the videos and relighting... I would like to follow your steps but I'm just wondering I don't have any other maps in my mod folder, can this be used on the standard maps? were currently on Erlengrat so I'm wondering where you find this map folder to put the relight in? also does it work on multiplayer? thanks.
Yes it can. it overwrites the base game lighting :) and yes it works in MP too
@@TheFarmSimGuy okay thats great but when i go into my mod folder the standard maps arent there, not sure what to do.
@@GamingWithGibo They are built into the basegame, you won't see them in the mod folder, just add the Relight mod and switch it on when you start a game

I'm gonna figure that out tonight. The map was made on elm creek but I'll just have to see what the easiest way to plug it in is so you don't break your game files

It won’t be coming to FS25 the modder isn’t modding any more
@TheFarmSimGuy ohhh 😓
I could use some help. when i install it i dont get relight and readme file. but i get : Assets, Data, src, modDesc, modicon. so no readme and no relight.. also i can not edit the xml file. can somebody please help me because im lost. and i would really like to have relight on the map: Bergland.
If u noticed in 17 the sky was different an I think that has a lot to do with it go look at some of sqauds old videos an look at the sky makes everything look more realistic. !!
How do you get your extraction of the map file to look like that? trying to do this with Stone Valley and cant figure it out because it looks nothing similar.
I use winRaR and I I just right click on the zip file and “extract to folder name”
If you're using 7-zip or Win Rar, there is no need to unzip the compressed file, you can just copy/paste the Relight folder into the inside the zip file.
I'd always recomend unzipping the map if you are editing XML
ok but how do i do it for in game maps like zielonka?
It's a standalone mod now, just add it to your mod folder and make sure it's ticked when you start a game
My download files dont look like that.
Does anybody know why the gütler mayor roller doesnt work?
After i roll the field no crop grows but weeds do
So if this is using what Giants already has ingame, would it be possible to have this on console?

do you use a NVIDIA Game Filter aswell? Or just vanilla and the relight?
No, nothing require with NVIDIA at all
yknow its a bold claim saying this. but the sunrise looks a ton more like fs15/13 like this
it's not working on griffin indiana.. any idea why ?
Make sure you have put the folder in the right place Emil, I've not tried it on Griffin yet, but will give it a go to see if it works.

Why not take a map.. I think farmer bob has a small blank, public map anyone can use. Put the new lighting in it, use that map and have a required mod ( additional settings), and we could just choose that map in custom lighting That way, we wouldn’t have to mess around with maps xml, etc. and we wouldn’t have to do this for every map we play on. also if he wanted to change it, all we would have to do is update the supplied map.
( hope i typed sense)
That makes sense Chris, a good workaround. I think in future this will be a fully fledged mod with it's own in game menu and settings.

I have watched and searched and tried a lot with this relight mod on mac but i couldn't get it, even i tried to install the relight mod but i haven't got anything...
Please can you make one tutorial for the mac users..it will be very helpful for me.
The relight mod should work just the same on Mac as it does on PC 👍
It works by dropping it in the mods folder. No need for manual. But it's nothing special. Reshade does the same thing and even better because it has more effects. And of course ZERO performance impact. This does slow things a little bit. But thanks for the headsup
