I know I'm late but don't think it "determines the rest of your life." I graduated with a civil engineering degree yet I am still studying to become a web developer! It's never too late to change.
I would agree with @minicrit and ask you to consider the permanence of the decision. Lots of our students are making the switch midway through their career. I think that will become increasingly common as people look for more rewarding and fulfilling jobs.

What cert are you considering? Certs aren't really a recognized credential as much as it is proving what you can build and how you can point to how you tackled some challenging problems. This can always come with a coding portfolio and a fee decent projects to point to. That being said, everything helps, but ultimately it is about the problems you can solve for hiring managers and how you can articulate your story as a learner. Hope that is helpful!
@@mw02 sure happy to help! Without knowing more about the organization providing it, a certificate will help you to build the context you need to demonstrate to companies that you can build functional software. So, it will be less about the credential and more about the material you learn and what you can do with it.
I wouldn't say that. I know many developers that are introverted, but gone are the days where you can kind of just hide in front of your monitor and not talk to people. Software development is primarily a communication challenge - ensuring you understand requirements and the needs of the user and working with other engineers to solve problems.

If I study BAppSc in Software Development at uni, am I going to be considered as a "software engineer"?
@@ashharkausar413 I'm not sure about that. In the US, there are such titles as "Junior Software Engineer" A BS in Software Development could very likely land you a title of "Software Engineer" - in software, there really isn't a market distinction between Developer and Engineer. Having Engineer in your title is not indicative of your years of experience.
Try and error approaches are IMHO not very professional. It may work for some problems but for complex projects you have to apply a more systematic approach.
"Try and error approaches are IMHO not very professional", I'm curious to know what you mean by this. And can't you combine systematic approach with trial and error?
there's a universe of options, really. IMHO, you could go the IT route, the sales engineering route, you can teach / go academic, do quality assurance, or go the straightforward dev route. Within the straightforward dev area itself, there are so many different types of developers. You could choose to work on operating systems, embedded devices, mobile apps, web apps, or games. There are also the emerging fields of data science, AI, and augmented reality. The latter disciplines are harder to break into from an entry level, however. One area that recently fascinates me is warehouse automation, where Amazon engineers and others are trying to find the most efficient means possible to pack boxes and ship them off to customers. It involves AI, computer vision, and robotics. This is actually a great topic for another video! Thanks for the idea.
You can be but....you are essentially using math principles to solve issues. It depends on the complexity of the issues you encounter, if you are having trouble migrating data from backend to front end you are likely going to be breaking down a multi layered problem. As a result you will need a "mathematical" approach to the problem since there are likely to be nested issues.
I totally agree that it's definitely not for everyone! It's super popular to say today that "everyone should learn to code!" I don't prescribe to that philosophy. It requires a certain mindset and type of interest. You should kind of pat yourself on the back that you can identify that it isn't for you. That's meaningful and important while you choose a career path. I also appreciate you qualifying that I was not boring :-)
Thanks so much, it feels stressful trying to pick a concentration that determines the rest of your life.
