The Post-Launch Story of Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 was released back in early February of this year to massive acclaim and an even bigger player count. However, following a couple cases of poor encounter and weapon balancing, questionable developer behavior, and a dash of corporate greed, the player base dropped to a number almost 10x smaller than at launch. See all that happened after the release of the game.

I do feel like Helldivers 2 probably need the most help on the balancing side.
As in, I don’t actually even know if it’s a “balancing” issue, but the game felt fun back then, and now the game no longer feels fun.
However, I feel like it goes deeper than simply “people had their fun and are no longer interested”. I do feel that the underlying gameplay loop is there. And games like L4D2 still feel pretty enjoyable when you pick it up today.
But I don’t really know how to fix all this. I notice that I tried launching HD2, got into a game, but just couldn’t even complete a single mission and just left.

"People are tired" is just part of the issue, you're right. However, taking a break worked for me for a little bit. Stopped playing for 2 month and had lots of fun when i booted it up recently.
I did stop playing again due to lack of content - unlocked all stratagems, most warbond weapons, and almost all ship upgrades, so the sense of progression stopped. There is also the case of repetitive Major Orders (defend bots -> defend bugs -> defend bots -> defend bugs), mission objectives (how many times can you play "emergency evacuation" before it gets really tedious), and biomes (the new jungle is awesome, but there needs to be more).
The gameplay is really fun, they nailed the shooting, stratagems, and the overall feel of spreading democracy (when they're not nerfing the shit out of everything). But I've seen everything there is to see. In two months there will probably be new objectives, guns, stratagems, biomes and it'll be great to jump back in and sink some more hours into this little gem. It's a cycle.
