You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice ruclips.net/user/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

Great concept, JKM! I recently purchased a new table saw (sold my last one 12 years ago and have concentrated on hand tool woodworking since then, but have slowly come around to acknowledging the necessity of an accurate table saw in my shop). I ordered your stop block today for my new crosscut sled, which is based on your sled build video, and now I might have to order a second one so I can do THIS build. You better quit coming up with these brilliant ideas for a couple months so I can catch up, man! BTW, as a hand tool woodworker I have to say that I bought your dovetail jigs a few months ago and they have really improved the speed and accuracy of my dovetails. When you’re building a grand-daughter’s toy box and you have to cut 40+ dovetails, this comes in really handy!! PS... I liked the shout out to Tamar 3x3... that young lady is awesome!!

I just started building this and found one thing people should note: The 4 pack of 24" T-Track will get you just enough T-Track for the sled, but not the fence. You'll also need one piece longer than 24" if you want a single run across the fence. I'll probably just order another 4 pack of 48" cause I can always use more T-Track. Also, the shipping from JKM for the stop block was crazy fast. Thanks!

We must have had the same dream! I built this exact same jig but a smaller version. The only difference is I drilled dowel holes (for steel pins) on the ends of the fence and corresponding holes in the jig at 90 and 45 degrees so I can quickly set the fence and cut those angles without having to fuss with squares or angle finders.

I have a small shop that I am just fitting out, 9x19 and so am always looking for multifunctional fixtures like this. I made a version of this so I could do some accurate crosscuts for plywood panels, some tapers as well as crosscuts for smaller pieces and the design worked beautifully! My problem came when I needed to "catch" my off cut and so I made a second sled to go beside it that rides in the second tablesaw track. Well it wasn’t long before I realized that if I added corresponding tracks to the other sled, used the fence with 2 more bolts for my back fence and then added a second fence at the front for more rigidity, that I had myself a full-on crosscut sled that could be converted to other purposes as well as broken down into 2 sleds and 2 fences that can be hung on the wall!!! AMAZING! Many Thanks for your inspiration JKM.

Great video, Jonathan - and a very cool sled. You need to work on your match skills, though. In the details section, you list the T-track from TayTools at $0.35/foot... A 4 pack of 2’ T-track = 8’ of T-track. Multiplied by $0.35 = $2.80. (Oh how I WISH I could buy T-track for $.35/foot! At $35 for 8’, the correct per foot price is $4.38.

It would allow me to cut my 72, 34, and 54 degree angles to make Christmas stars for gifts. I would need to downsize the sled to fit my smaller saw. Do you have ideas for a downsized version?

Very cool, I'll probably be making one of these soon. Also l feel like it might be easier to orient the fence with the plys vertical. That way you can make the slot by sandwiching some true 1/4" stock between one 3/4" piece on the back and 2 on the front to leave room for the t track. Just a thought to avoid the deep routing.

    • @JP-mq7pg
      @JP-mq7pg 3 года назад

Perhaps Johnathan orientated the ply as he did to reduce the chance of the fence warping or flexing overtime.

@@JP-mq7pg Eh, he said that his normal crosscut sled has it vertical, and that seems to be holding up fine for him. He also said that he just flipped it to make routing the slot easier. I could be missing something of course, but either way would work.

man, I just came across this video, and your channel. someone in a video referenced your channel but I forget what video, it was a while back...Sorry. Anyway, this is awesome. I will be building one for my little DeWalt job site table saw. I subscribed to the channel so now I can't forget about you, and because I want to learn more, which you seem to have a few more "this type of router bit vs this type what the difference is what each does" (as well as other tools ) which I think will help me make better pieces as my skills progress. Now I wait for next friday(payday for us nyc employees lol) so I can buy the apron which I would like since I always seem to spend more time looking for a tool "I just put down 20 seconds ago" and some how mysteriously moved by itself(or a ghost did it) to another part of my garage(aka my shop lol). and that stop block, in addition to some T-track and apparently a new router bit, so I can build this. I have seen other table saw sled videos that I really liked, but this sled, boy oh boy, it blows the others away by a long shot, they don't even hold a candle to the advantages and multifunctionability of this.

I think I'll try this with the long gap cut in before glue up rather than routing... Should work, I think...

I’ve purchased everything to build this but was curious how often you reach for this over your cross cut sled. Would I be better served building a cross cut sled first or would this suffice for multiple purposes until I want to build a specific cross cut sled? Excited to build it!!!

Great idea/video. I needed to cut a 25deg angle the other day and I wish I had seen your video. It would have handled the cut so easy. Is there a reason you made the sled to track to the right of the blade?

Another great video. Just ordered a stop block! I didn't catch what was the reason for the fence being rotated from your other sleds? To avoid routing along the plys?

Thanks so much for introducing me to Taylor Toolworks. I buy from them all the time. I started back when you told us about the blem squares they sell. Just ordered some Narex Richter chisels from them today. They're sorta local for me too and they take PayPal 4pay. Win/win. Keep up the awesome work.

Jonathan if you make it with the micro jig dovetail clamps you won’t have to spend $66 on all the parts for the sled. it’ll be cheaper.

I was wondering how much for all the parts. So 66 vs ?

@@2hotscottpro The dove tail router bit cuts the groove as long and wherever you need so you don’t have to buy any of the track. So zero dollars.

Bought your apron off your site. Man lemme tell you what, I don't know how I worked in my shop without it. I just completed a simple project while wearing it, and it was so convenient having all my tools with me. Love it and love the sled video

Great video, great idea, good addition; a small hold down on the fence (made of wood, sliding in the t-track) to hold down those tiny pieces to protect those fragile things called fingers ;)
