This is one of the more affordable 5G phones here in the UK, and a solid option if you want a launcher-free Android experience with guaranteed OS updates. The specification isn't quite as strong as some budget rivals, sure. There's no 90Hz support for that mighty display, which is also an HD+ rather than FHD+ panel. And the Snapdragon 480 chipset means performance is rather limited, although the Nokia G50 can certainly handle everyday shenanigans. Gamers will want to look elsewhere for more grunt, but this mobile can manage PubG and CodM in a pinch.
That 48MP camera seems fine for simple photos and home movies, despite the lack of 4K video action. And you have all of the usual features including NFC, a headphone jack and expandable storage via microSD.

There are so many people complaining about the 480 chipset. I only do businesses tasks and camera use on my phone. I used a Samsung a 52 for a while and my experience was horrible. So bad optimization on the 750 chipset. It is a very mediocre phone. Especially when it comes to build quality. Horrible. Nokia might not support 4k or other fancy stuff like Xiaomi and others on the same price, but at least it can perform very well at the features it offers. Nokia user since 2017 with Nokia 6 and then 8 sirocco until now. Awesome build quality, great lag free software. I don't know about gaming but when it comes to multitasking and software effectiveness Nokia is the best.
Yeah you're absolutely right. People nowadays are brainwashed with usage of higher end components. Don't know what happened to those days when phones were only means of communication a lil bit of photography. People want so much without spending a lot. These chinese companies have ruined it all.
Just tell them to go see RUclipss 'TheMrNokia [Abdulla Zaki] - He did benchmarks on various other SD SOC's, and on the most part it was comparable to the high 700 series chips, so, pretty much high end processing power, oh and, pretty much 0 throttling during heavy use... 😏😏😏😎🇬🇧

Such a big display with such a sub-standard 720p resolution is a major setback . Either they should've reduced the size or given 1080p resolution atleast .

I wish reviewers like this guy knew that HMD have had trouble commiting to their promises with updates for Nokia phones. The updates are always delayed and broken.
Ah. Love to see the name of my hometown on both sides of the HMD Global devices. Same name you used to see on bog rolls, wellies, and still see on car tyres. Same origin, my hometown, which is still as depressing as it was in the 19th century when Nokia as a company started.

@@SirFaceFone Not much, to be honest. Some old school warriors still buy them because of the name but majority doesn't consider the new Nokia phones the real deal. It's like when Nokia sold its soul to Microsoft; the people of Nokia town didn't know whether to cry or change the road signs to say Microsoft instead.
I heard that a company will stop making phones in 2024 as written in the contract and the period I use the rights to the name will expire is this true

I just got a Nokia g50 last week this phone is absolutely amazing and I love the build quality of it i am loving it plus its pretty smooth to 😊
I like this big boy! Good, solid , clean build, 5G prepped, a no frills phone made for everyday use with a large screen, solid cameras, good battery life and the excellent Android One programme, with guaranteed OS and security patch updates! Not much else needed. PS I saw that they updated "James Bond/No Time To Die" with the Nokia XR-20 as his own device! They upgraded from the Nokia 8.3 5G, itself a great and quite underrated device.

@@dawidszczesniak7872 It runs Android 11, but yes this version comes under the Android One programme…aka the most stock Android version you can find on a smartphone that isn’t a Pixel. As far as I know Motorola also runs under the Android One banner, for at least some if not of it’s models. We are not talking about the Android Go OS, which is a paired down Android software version that you can find on several different devices at the entry level, like the Nokia 1.4 or others.

I have nokia 5.1 plus and had 720p ips display but it's better than my new realme 6 pro that had 1080p display, I dunno why but it depends on how they built the phone especially the os
I own a G50 in Ocean Blue and I use a Belkin 30W PPS charger with mine plus in the in-box 10W charger.
Got mine for $247 down from the AU RRP of $449 on clearance at Harvey Norman.
Would be great they release a Pro version with better chipset and full hd screen.

Hello there Nokia x100 or the g50 which one do u think is better.
The Snapdragon 480 is very close to the Snapdragon 720G and the Dimensity 700. It is only a gnats hair difference.
Ok on the X20 it's a bit cheap but it's fair enough on a £200 phone.
It's rivals are Motorola where upgrades are zip to zero or Chinese rivals with more bloatware to sink a battleship.
For £200 this is good stuff. And has got what you need without the nonsense.
HD+ display and Dew drop notch is not we expected.
It looks solid built and comes in at a good price point. It should be fairly snappy too. Just for comparison, the G50 has the same chipset and ram as the XR20. And that pushes a 1080p screen and also costs literally twice as much. So slap a good quality case on this bad boy and it’s actually pretty cost effective compared to the xr20. 720p screen isn’t all that bad either really. It’s more then enough for streaming and everyday things. I think the G50 is actually a well thought device. I bet it has better 5G bands then the Chinese rivals

@@quilla.b XR 20 has a 4gb and a 6gb variant here in the UK at least. 4gb is £399 and 6gb is £449. It’s unlikely Nokia will sell a 6Gb variant of the G50 in the UK as they Have the X10 6gb variant priced at £229 at the moment.

I absolutely despise having the google search bar at the bottom of the screen. And yet, I might still actually get this phone.
Love this phone, I use it heavily for work and it constantly clocks in well over ten hours of screen on time with Bluetooth on continuously, camera is Brill too and the screen is more than fine

I'm still hoping that you can talk to them directly to the HMD about our concern in the philippines. Some of the smartphone are not available in our country for example the Nokia 8.3 5G,the Nokia XR20,Nokia laptop,smartwatch etc.

I like the idea of a VPN provider being pre-installed, only thing is, it would be better if it also came with 1 year (or even 6 months) free use of said VPN, just so people get a chance of being more secure when online. And it would naturally be better than the 'Free' VPN Providers out there, that log your data, or spam you with ads, or are slow etc etc... 🤔😒
Wow. If they offered higher specs on this, i wouldn't be looking for any other phone. Let's see. 3.5mm jack. Check. Expandable memory. Check. I mean i am considering gaming phones such as rog 5, red magic 6s pro, black shark 4, which all have the jack but not an expandable memory.
The current phone i have is the note 9 with 512 gb sd card bumping the storage all the way to 1 tb. And of course the headphone jack. We just need to convince Nokia to bump their specs up considering many companies are opening up opportunities for competition because of their greed.
1080p display is the only absence I would say

I'm really a big FAN of NOKIA , and i do like the REGULAR UPDATES , but i wish they would make a much POWERFULLER phone, at the moment I'm thinking of getting PIXEL 6/PRO.
I am thinking of getting pixel 6 as well. I don't think nokia is gonna go for flagship anytime soon and acc to rumours pixel 6 will be getting 5 years of os updates which is long time coming for Android market

I am currently using this phone. 1 month old. If you owned a Samsung prior, you will eventually be disappointed in the G50. It's slow, and the Google assistant button gets pressed by accident all the time. The mic picks up conversations and activates the Google assistant. The camera takes images with its own "unique " quality. The Nokia ringtone is nice, doesn't startle or disturb in meetings. The pull down menu has some neat tricks. For what it's worth, for a business man, no, for a traveller yes, gamer no, social media junkie yes would recommend. I bought this phone for the camera and Nokia nostalgia. All in all, I should have bought a Samsung.

Back again. I can only express how disappointed I am with this phone. A true piece of trash. I advise all considering buying this phone against it. The phone freezes from simple actions such as dialing a number. I've had many phones, including LGs and this phone is by far the worse.

Hey, don't know if opinion from random and not tech reviewer is worth for you much but I personally would go for Nokia. Better processor with clean Android so overall better performance, better 5G bands, longer SoT and better build quality I would say

Many people says that nokia 8.3 5G is the james bond phone used in the movie but it´s not true. There is no same phone in the market as the movie used daniel craig when he was on home with the little girl and his girlfriend.
By the way, the most similar model its this Nokia G50. Same position on front camera with V version and most similar on back with only Circle With all cameras inside.
I don´t understand why nokia spent to much money to put his phone in the movie and not released exactly same version.

The x10 is pretty much the same and gets a full hd screen. And kinda same price.
And doesn't have a charger.
Odd Nokia will plant more trees with the x10 over the g50.

Nokia G50 chin seems to be bigger than ever? But more importantly a terrible failure by HMD again. Why? Because new (7/2021) X10 is cheaper and much better! X10 gets 3 OS updates and 4 years security. X10 has Zeiss lens cameras. X10 has 1080p screen. Therefore this G50 is a disaster a totally pointless release by HMD Global.
Hope you gonna let us Kronos if it has a display alt mode ..
You can get rid of the Google search bar by using a launcher. I tried severa and settled on the Microsoft Launcher.

My mum and I are going in tomorrow to check out this phone for her. Her Samsung has been playing up for some time then found out this morning the recent update of Samsung phones has caused me to discuss with her changing brand phones. She wants a phone with 5g. Even if it came out in 2021 and we are now in 2023, I think she will get till 2025-2026 out of the phone then there will be even cheaper phones out. She has said for months she wants a phone that's similar to my phone. My phone is the Nokia X20 but on a budget, which makes me think of the g50. Her budget was $100aud-$300aud. The g50 is on sale for $297. Other places it's $498.. I think it will do for a retired grandmother.

I will never buy a new budget smart phone ever again, you are much better off with a refurbished former flagship from like 2018 the specs are still probably much better, I am still happy with my p20 Pro I bough last year for £160, the speed and battery life is still at the top, a iPhone 12 Pro max is honestly not that much better for the price gap.

Not a big fan of Nokia but there is one thing i do like about their phones and that is the fact they put the name of the brand on the front, differentiating itself from the rest. But i still doubt anyone would buy this for any other reason than nostalgia. Phone seems outdated when you've got the likes of the x3 pro and many other affordable Xiaomi/Poco/Redmi phones. Stock android is really dull, processor is slow and 720p resolution. This phone would've been fine if it came out in 2017 though
The problem with those Chinese phones are the amount of bloatware on them.

Thank you for the intro to the phone. Apart from the 2 years OS updates and 3 years security updates it's difficult to justify getting this phone.
Perhaps I'm just becoming very jaded in my dotage but 720p, nipple notch, mediocre performance, massive chin, and the size & weight of the Kraken (TBBT reference there).
I might save my pennies for 2 years and go over to the dark side (Apple if you're wondering) mega expensive, utterly boring, and destined to stay with you forever as a constant reminder of desperation.

I wonder how this battery will perform. 5.4 after learning user habits, it can standby up to 4 days with wifi never turned off. I guess this could take even further
that said it's a nice upgrade from 5 2017. I'm more irritated to that screen size rather than resolution as X10 covers FHD+. Don't care about 90Hz as I'm not staring at scrolling animation every day and not much games makes use of that refresh rate

Can you read books and watch video in daylight & sunlight. Because I'm fine it that almost all these Android phone is extremely bright in the night but in daylight they are very poor. I find out that the Lumia phone are very good in direct sunlight. Thanks

they did make one its called Nokia 9 Pureview though from what i heard its kinda bug and do to its sales being extremely low i think they dropped it. when it came out it had the best display and a camera on a phone.

They can but they don't because of storage types. Basically all top of the lines phones have ufs 3.1 or higher storage types, which makes read and write speed fast. Giving a memory slot makes it slower as cheaper memory cards that people generally use don't have that fast read/write speed, and the ones that have are much expensive so they don't bother in giving an extra memory card slot.
I'm waiting for Nokia's flagship phone

Nokia seems to give decent value for the money with their update strategy, but it kind of feels like their devices don't have much of an identity to them. Stock Android is nice and all, but why buy a Nokia when you can go straight to the Pixel series devices for the same or better experience? There's just nothing specific or unique they add in their software.
