As Sixers fan, I'm sad that Jimmy left. He was about the most Philadelphian kind of player that the team could ask for: worked his ass off, never gave up, and clutch. But at the same time, I'm glad he is in a better place now.
As a Bulls fan, I miss him too.

It wasn't about keeping Jimmy or Simmons. Butler clearly said that he just wanted out, largely due to the lack of structure in the organization and coaching concerns.

I symphatize with Jimmy because its hard to be that "perfectionist" in a lazy environment. You get painted as toxic when you just want to compete and be the best! Glad hes in a better position now.
I would've loved to be a fly on the wall when Jimmy Butler and Pat Riley had their first meeting. Probably went like this:
Riley: Before we offer you this contract, please tell me what happened in Minnesota and Philly.
Butler: Management thought I was too rough on the young talented lazy players. I just want everyone in the organization to care about winning and getting better as much as I do.

Damn.. thought I was alone on this. I think high performers are misunderstood, especially to people with less motivation and drive. It’s frustrating in a professional environment when that happens. So it seems to be good to practice compassion as a high performer. Communication would hopefully allow everyone to be on the same page.

I feel like Jimmy's intensity and passion is mistaken for him being an asshole but I think he just gets mad when dudes in the league don't have the same level of passion as he does.
Basically the same mentality as Kobe had, but Kobe won early so he had the clout to go with it. Butler was stuck on teams that didnt have a shot. Either because of injuries (Chigago), or mentally weak, soft, teammates.

Yup. It reminds you of the old days of playin within an organization. Albeit that the stage I played on was much smaller. These are the little things I looked forward to about the league I never made it to.
there is also a bad side to this. it's generally something that should be kept "in-house". disgruntlement's like this shed bad light on coaches and players.
I love this kind of shit as a fan. The media (ESPN) doesn’t know what goes on behind the scenes and bash players and fans do the same shit. ESPN “analysts” just give their opinion and react to situations in the nba but don’t truly know what hoes on. They just think “oh jimmy left bc he’s an asshole” when jimmy had real reasoning. I love hearing what REALLY happened behind closed doors and giving us fans the inside scoop and process of why players do things.

As a teacher, here is my take on Jimmy Butler. He is like a high achieving student that expects his teacher to be professional. Some teachers take issue with students like this, and see this attitude as disrespectful. The teacher might not come to every lesson fully prepared. They might not have work that challenges or stimulates the student. Other easygoing students will like this type of teacher, because it's easier, less work is expected, and they have more 'fun' (relax). But some students can only truly have 'fun' when they are being challenged.
And so the high achieving student (Butler) acts out and shows his displeasure because he wants to grow, he wants to learn, he wants to be engaged. In Miami, with Riley and Spo (whom Jimmy called the best coach he's ever had), Jimmy has found that teacher who will go the extra mile. The teacher who will do the extra work, prepare harder worksheets, find different challenges just for him. He's found an environment where his time won't be wasted, where his potential can be utilized.

based on my observations, Brown is a decent choice if you have a rebuilding team that needs to develop young players. But once you're past that growing phase, you can't rely on him to turn your team into actual contenders.

This made me realize that if Sixers had a better coach they could have beat the Raptors and won a ring, imagine the Raptors having to deal with Butler, Embiid,Reddick and Simmons how could the sixers fuck up that lineup.
Yup. Brett Brown is fired and Jimmy's in the Finals. He made the Sixers management look as stupid as the Wolves and Bulls. Tip to NBA franchises: if you want to win, just focus on winning. JJ Redick is an outstanding interviewer. The fact that he was a good player and in the same locker room gives him a very high level of credibility that other reporters can never attain.
They made a mistake on both 50/50 decisions. Should have kept Jimmy instead of Tobias and JJ instead of signing Horford
If you listen to the whole podcast, there were way too many issues that 76ers needed to fix in order for Jimmy to come back.
It wasn’t about decisions.....they offered jimmy a max. He didn’t want to stay if brown was here. It wants about choosing Tobias over him. Redick left 12 hrs in to FA after the sixers threw him a number. They didn’t sign horford first as if they chose these guys over the jimmy and jj

The heat hit the jackpot with Jimmy. The heat are lucky to have him and he is lucky to have them. Their trip to the finals was inspirational. They played him til the wheels fell off. All heart what an incredible leader.
He's rare in today's NBA. Other stars don't work that hard and get by on natural gifts and talents. Jimmy has elevated himself from a middle of the road prospect coming into the league into a Top 5 player come playoff time.
I'm really a newer NBA fan, but this 76ers team was the entire reason I'm such a big 76ers fan. Jimmy is my all time favorite player, and I love JJ Redick. I'm so upset that we kept Brett Brown, Ben Simmons, and Tobias Harris over these guys.
I'm a heat fan and Jimmy has been my favorite player for at least 2 years and people are just now starting to give him the deserved praise.

Sport School because his tear occurred late in the series. Warriors won a total of 2 quarters the entire series. One of them was when KD was absolutely going off. Should have been raps in 4 before KD came back, just their inexperience in finals that held them back a bit. I do agree though, Idk if Raptors could have beat a fully healthy warriors. Too bad we never got to see.

Jimmy has the mamba mentality. He is hard-working, dedicated, committed, and gives 110% to being the best basketball player he can be. Guys like that you want on your team. It will motivated the other players to give the same effort on the basketball court. The ones who sees Jimmy as a threat are the lazy, motivated players who wants the easy way. E.g. Ben Simmons, KAT, Wiggins, n etc. All x 1st overall picks born with tremendous athletic ability but lacking that mamba mentality. Jimmy is an old school player in that he wants film sessions to be about criticism even if it's him. As long as there's growth. The life span of a professional athlete is unique. Best case scenario you got about 10 years. That's it. Everything you want to accomplish in that profession is going to happen in that time frame. There's no time for pussy footing around. Either you are actively trying to grow, or you are willfully staying stagnant, which is what the 76ers seem fine to be in. Just pretty good

@@phillyant58 You're 100% right on that. JJ definitely benefited as much as anyone and put up the best numbers of his career under Brown. I can understand wanting to spread the floor with a 3pt shooter like JJ on the roster, but the Sixers offense and the way he drew up plays for JJ at big moments just became too predictable... especially for the more competent NBA defenses.
JJ and Bret Brown aside, It's too bad Simmons isn't more reliable shooting outside and Embiid is always hurt.
