I own a Checkpoint SL5 myself. Of course I have optimized it a little. Now it fits like a glove. This bike was the best investment I made in 2023. It's fast and very stiff. I love it, which is why I ride it a lot more than my Emonda Palmarés or Orbea Alma at the moment.
Checkpoint is such a smooth bike to ride! Love riding it all the time! The Emonda Palmares is 👌🏼
Great balanced review 👍 researching for a gravel bike & the length of this bike on paper is something that I’m not sure of
Super nice looking bike! Makes me feel like mine needs a glow up!
Always nice to spend some money on upgrades!!
Awesome machine you have there man 👍🙂👌.
Thank you!! Really enjoy riding it!! 🚴🏼♂️🚴🏼♂️🚴🏼♂️

How does your rear mech RD-RX812 handle the 46T, technicly shimano rate max 42T. New GRX 12 speed is great but it suck that it only fit on microspline freehub body. Currently have Rival AXS but i prefer shimano just because i have too much bike and want to be on a single ecosystem. Thanks
I think it works very well tbh! It’s does look like the rear mech is not having a great time but so far no issues. How you finding the Rival AXS? I really like how you can run the sram mullet. Love the look of the new sram red levers (way too expensive) and can pair with a mountain bike rear mech. If only the check point had UDH could run sram transmission. Think if they bring out a new checkpoint it will.
I am looking to get an everyday commuter bike. Would this bike be a good bike for riding to work?
Very good for commuting but if that’s your main purpose I’d say go with the aluminium version. If it’s mainly roads then definitely look at the Domane AL range.
Service the wheels? What service is there, except swap out the bearings? Unless you’re pulling the seals and re greasing the bearings.
I had to change a couple of bearings but serviced the ones that were ok, but will replace them soon as pulling off the seals isn’t great.
Video shows a lot of vibration through the arms. Did the changed cockpit make a difference?
Checkpoint has a 72.5 head angle, with 61.9 trail. That’s road bike territory…snappy but inherently bumpy.
Nice! I actually selling mine because I shifted to titanium bike already... but ur video made me think not to sell it lol. Nice bike
How you finding the titanium bike and which checkpoint do you have?
@@DanEscapes i had the alr5 but i sold it. Now i have the SL5.... im loving the titanium because of what it is. I feel solid
You're right about the stem. It's a long ass bike, and I think I might switch to a 70mm too.
Yeah made such a difference switching to the 70mm. Wish I got the size down though! If I ever replace the frame will go down.
@DanEscapes hmm I think the frame is good for me, just the reach is not what I'm use to.
I've an SL5 in radioactive red. Now with GRX 12 speed, Zipp gravel bars, Bontrager XXX stem in 10cm length (to bring to same reach as my road bikes), aeolus pro 47v wheels, uprated lower headset and bottom bracket bearings.
It's a bit like Trigger's Broom.
Races it at the Gravel150 event in the Netherlands last weekend.

Hi Dan, great vid. I’m looking to buy one. What do you think sizing wise? I’m 5 11
Thanks 🙏🏻 I’m 5 8 and I could have easily gone down to the 52. I went for the 54 and had to change the stem to shorten the reach. What are you currently riding and how comfortable do you find that?
I’m 6ft and went with 56cm. Love it
Just changed from Ribble cgr alto ALR 5 Driftless and can’t believe the difference and as a touring gravel bike hence al I agree with you on how responsive and comfortable they are. Also running the grx 820 1 by but need to change cassette to the 52
Nice upgrade! You still running the dropper post? Definitely get that 52 cassette on there. Really want to upgrade mine to 820 but secretly waiting for a di2 version.
I found the same with the seize. 183 and the 56 felt better. The SRAM 1x is so simple and fun. Where do you get the clear wrap?
Yeah always good to try before you buy!! Which sram are you running? Still have you to try out etap, was hoping they would switch to mineral oil. The clear wrap is from a company called RideWrap
Bro what's the size of ur bike? And ur height? Thanks
I’m 5ft 8 and I’m riding a 54. Personally I would have gone down to the 52.
The last upgrade you need is the Zipp 303 Firecrest with the white letter decals. then you will really be a pavement princess
Need to be a pavement princess!
Should I get a Domane or a Checkpoint?
Depends if you want more road focus or gravel. I love the versatility though of the check point. The domane has a more relaxed geometry compared to the checkpoint, so if you prioritise comfort then maybe the domane. Personally for me it would be the checkpoint, great off road and if you get a road set of wheels works really well too!
Thinking about the frame size question, how tall are you dan?
I’m 5ft 8 or 173cm, definitely wish I had gone to the 52.
I'm 6ft 4" Riding a 58cm with seatpost close to max limit
dude I saw this bike and how trucky it looks..and turned around and looked at my bike and felt sad. I gotta get some cinturato 45's and beef up. just dont want more rolling resistance than my schwalbe 40 G-one all round.
I haven’t noticed any rolling resistance going from the 40s to the 45s, just more comfort!! Do it!!

Nice set up!! Which GRX 12 speed you upgrade to? Would love to run a sram mullet set up!
@@DanEscapes 2x mechanical. I ran SRAM cx1 on my CX bike. After that experience, I'm unlikely to ride SRAM again.
