    I own a Checkpoint SL5 myself. Of course I have optimized it a little. Now it fits like a glove. This bike was the best investment I made in 2023. It's fast and very stiff. I love it, which is why I ride it a lot more than my Emonda Palmarés or Orbea Alma at the moment.

      Checkpoint is such a smooth bike to ride! Love riding it all the time! The Emonda Palmares is 👌🏼

    Great balanced review 👍 researching for a gravel bike & the length of this bike on paper is something that I’m not sure of

    How does your rear mech RD-RX812 handle the 46T, technicly shimano rate max 42T. New GRX 12 speed is great but it suck that it only fit on microspline freehub body. Currently have Rival AXS but i prefer shimano just because i have too much bike and want to be on a single ecosystem. Thanks

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes  2 месяца назад

      I think it works very well tbh! It’s does look like the rear mech is not having a great time but so far no issues. How you finding the Rival AXS? I really like how you can run the sram mullet. Love the look of the new sram red levers (way too expensive) and can pair with a mountain bike rear mech. If only the check point had UDH could run sram transmission. Think if they bring out a new checkpoint it will.

    I am looking to get an everyday commuter bike. Would this bike be a good bike for riding to work?

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes  4 месяца назад

      Very good for commuting but if that’s your main purpose I’d say go with the aluminium version. If it’s mainly roads then definitely look at the Domane AL range.

    Service the wheels? What service is there, except swap out the bearings? Unless you’re pulling the seals and re greasing the bearings.

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes  11 дней назад

      I had to change a couple of bearings but serviced the ones that were ok, but will replace them soon as pulling off the seals isn’t great.

    Video shows a lot of vibration through the arms. Did the changed cockpit make a difference?

    • @jc10747
      @jc10747 16 дней назад

      Checkpoint has a 72.5 head angle, with 61.9 trail. That’s road bike territory…snappy but inherently bumpy.

    You're right about the stem. It's a long ass bike, and I think I might switch to a 70mm too.

      I've an SL5 in radioactive red. Now with GRX 12 speed, Zipp gravel bars, Bontrager XXX stem in 10cm length (to bring to same reach as my road bikes), aeolus pro 47v wheels, uprated lower headset and bottom bracket bearings.
      It's a bit like Trigger's Broom.
      Races it at the Gravel150 event in the Netherlands last weekend.

      @DanEscapes  2 месяца назад

      Thanks 🙏🏻 I’m 5 8 and I could have easily gone down to the 52. I went for the 54 and had to change the stem to shorten the reach. What are you currently riding and how comfortable do you find that?

    Just changed from Ribble cgr alto ALR 5 Driftless and can’t believe the difference and as a touring gravel bike hence al I agree with you on how responsive and comfortable they are. Also running the grx 820 1 by but need to change cassette to the 52

    I found the same with the seize. 183 and the 56 felt better. The SRAM 1x is so simple and fun. Where do you get the clear wrap?

      Yeah always good to try before you buy!! Which sram are you running? Still have you to try out etap, was hoping they would switch to mineral oil. The clear wrap is from a company called RideWrap

    Should I get a Domane or a Checkpoint?

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes  11 дней назад +1

      Depends if you want more road focus or gravel. I love the versatility though of the check point. The domane has a more relaxed geometry compared to the checkpoint, so if you prioritise comfort then maybe the domane. Personally for me it would be the checkpoint, great off road and if you get a road set of wheels works really well too!
