These films are almost 20 years old, and they look so much better than most films today. They really do age like a fine wine!
I saw Fellowship for my 15th birthday it's opening weekend
I watched them in theaters last year, and sadly, seeing them on the big screen, some of the cracks do start to show in the vfx. But you’re right, 90% of the vfx shots are rock solid and are so much more dynamic than anything being made right now.
This trilogy is possibly the single greatest achievement in cinema history.
@@samgraef3028 It's not just the vfx, it's also everything else: the story, the meaning/intentions behind its creation, the sheer dedication put into it, the production. All of these trumps most films today, which are often about identity politics and actually have no significance.

Truly ethereal. I would pay good money to go back in time just to witness that in theaters for the first time all over again. 7yr old me didn't truly appreciate it for what it was!
I really hope when we go further into the years, we will never forget lord of the rings. Forever and will be, my favorite trilogy of all time.
We may never see another set of films as magical, epic, and enduring as the Lord of the Rings trilogy in our lifetime. They were lifetime experiences.
I was there for all three films, they are truly masterpieces. I was there for Terminator 2 ( I was 7 yrs. old) also, that's another masterpiece.
That's so true - I told myself at the time when I saw it multiple times in theaters that such a prediction would likely be true and that has been the case in spades.... in fact, not only that but movies have only gotten much worse than they used to be since those days. Following LOTR there were other great films (not close to LOTR quality) but great films worthy of purchasing nonetheless...but over the years, especially lately, films have deteriorated in quality immensely.
@@kayakerdude3727 It was the 2000s. Movies were hype and larger than life. Not just Lord of the Rings. But the Matrix trilogy, Pirates of the Carribean and Harry Potter films. Then you had the Star Wars prequels. You had Gladiator. 300, Troy, The Last Samurai. The Transformers trilogy with Michael Bay. It was era of sweeping wide shots and huge explosions, massive set pieces and even bigger battle scenes. The 00s were so hype. War films like Black Hawk Down, games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, Halo, Gears of War. Oh God, the memories XD
@@DestinyAwaits19 We were spoiled at a great time to be alive. I don't have those war video games you mentioned (got a big collection from those days of others and Nintendo hits) but have all those movies. They were so good then. It was also the time Computer Imagery advanced enough to look believable on screen. Not only were the movies good but the special effects alone made so many of them worth to go see - It was the golden age of modern cinema and it sure looks to be over and history... haven't been to a cinema since Top Gun Maverick - Which was a hit because it was in many ways like those old school classics you mentioned from a veteran old school guy who still gets it like Tom Cruise
@@kayakerdude3727 Well it wasn't just movies. It was everything. You had to be there to experience it. Like I said, the Modern Warfare trilogy, Halo, Gears of War. But there was also WWE Ruthless Agression Era with Jim Ross; Goldberg, Triple H, Batista. Jim Ross screaming on the commentary, the pyro technics, Goldberg spearing the living hell out of people, Batista was huge. Then you had Eminem, he was a phenomenon. Em's music was everywhere, Avril Lavign with Sk8er Boi, Evanescence and Bring Me to Life, My Immortal. It was an incredible time.
Good God. I had forgotten how good these film's looked.
I never forget. Because I have a photographic memory when it comes to movies. Plus, I watch the _LOTR_ trilogy once a year on my dad's birthday, to honor him after his passing.

Bringing Lee and Howe on the project was a genius move from Jackson. They were the essential pillars of the book-to-movie translation
LOTR return of the king is my favorite movie of all time and the trilogy is the GOAT. 20+ years on, it is still the one to rule them all

I really find the explosion of the tower of the Eye of Sauron so fascinating. Best trilogy ever made!
Yes! The blast forms the shape of a ring.. a subtle but overwhelming detail
Effort was made so that the collapse of that tower did not resemble too much the collapse of certain other towers.
This films are one of the most beautiful cinematic pieces a person could ever watch.
As far as sheer spectacle goes, I gotta say, I think these movies are still unmatched. Nothing in the past twenty years can hold a candle.
Maybe Train to Busan, but in a different way.

I would say revenge of the sith but I remembered that it's only 16 years old, but then again, Jurasic Park, Spider man 2, Matrix, empire strikes back and John Carpenter's the thing, but I do agree Lord of the rings is a god darn masterpiece
The only trilogy that overall matches The Lord Of The Rings *in my honest opinion* is Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel, even though you need to watch other things in order to watch Heaven's Feel properly.
A lot of people could mention The Godfather trilogy but the last film is not that good. Other is The Human Condition trilogy but I haven't watched it yet, so I don't know.

How can movies more than 20 years old be so much more beautiful than most of modern movies. It saddens me but at the same time watching the trilogy always fulfills my heart with joy and love.❤️
It is about a true love for and understanding of the original work and themes, not money or available technology (which is why time does not improve it). It is not just the pixels that look beautiful but the meaning the scenes have for our individual minds (e.g. Boromir lying dead in the silent woods) that heighten the sense of beauty in each shot and invoke emotions in us that are not replaceable.
Most of what is happening now in film is hallow and meaningless. No matter how the pixels are arranged, it is not going to be beautiful to this degree.

I remember wisely seeing these movies around Christmas multiple times in movie theaters (something I never did for other films) because I somehow knew we would never see movies as great as LOTR ever again in our lifetimes and beyond - It was a gut feeling that we were witnessing something very special that would never be duplicated so better go see multiple viewings. If I could travel back in time to my early 2000's self when these movies came out, I would tell my old self that he was bang on the money with that prediction because we haven't yet seen anything that comes close... and I will confidently predict again that we never will.
The Lord of the Rings is my all-time favorite movie trilogy. I worship these movies.
I love the shot of Gollum falling with the ring with the eerie vocals in the background and the the steam and lava and fiery ambiance he is falling past for those amazing 4 seconds.
I've probably seen this video dozens of times, because it's such a great tribute to what very well may be the greatest trilogy of all time. Everything about it: the story, the characters, the scenes, and - as highlighted here - the music and cinematography. I never get tired of watching these films, reading the books, and watching this video. Subscribed, and thank you!
2:29 A lot of the new HDR color treatment looks amazing, but really I'm disappointed at the new desaturation and vignette filters applied here to one of my favourite scenes.
The 4K versions of the film are a real letdown, unfortunately. The colours are inaccurate (an issue that’s plagued almost all blu-ray releases, unfortunately), and the film grain removal process makes the CGI look universally worse.
They also contain no more detail, due to not being true new scans of the film negatives. The HDR is the only good thing about them, visually.
Ur probably not watching on a good tv then, as the 4K versions are amazing

@@AlexanderDiviFilius The colour in the 4k version is very accurate. The blurays had completely inaccurate colour grading with a green filter to everything. The 4k’s have the colour as it was in the cinema.

I think what makes this Trilogy the best veer made is most of their locations are shot on real place. That's a really big factor in the immersion of audience and the feels of the movie itself.

Literally every scene could fit in this video. What a masterpiece these movies are. I own the extended editions of all 3. Each one is 4 hours long. I've watched all 3 in a 12 hour marathon a hundred times over the years. It never gets old.

I honestly think this video is near perfect. I would have added that one shot near Buckleberry Ferry where the four Hobbits spot the Black Rider on the hill. Accompanied by the music it sends shivers down my spine.

I loved the depiction of Imladris (aka Rivendell) so much I ordered a diamond painting of it. It's 3'x4'. I can't wait to get it, but i guess I'll have to. It just cleared customs here in the US.

what even comes close to this? Spielberg could only ever dream of making such iconic movie moments so greatly portrayed in this video. Well done to the creators. And fucking to the moon with Peter Jackson and Co for these memorable and one of a kind movie moments.
My younger cousin and I are rewatching the trilogy and we just got to the Battle of Helm's deep, and I was commenting that the part where Gandalf banishes Saruman from Theoden and you see him return to his actual, younger self..the effects on that are still incredible. These movies are like the original Jurassic park. The effects still hold up, and they're all around just fantastic movies! Can't say I feel the same about the Hobbit trilogy, unfortunately.

The shot where the fire glow intensifies while Gandalf and Balrog falls to the river in Frodo’s dream and Arwen and Aragorn standing on the bridge alone overshadows all 3 hobbit movies.
