Idk why it took me so long...I RECOGNIZED the guy..I worked for a guy that had MS, loved watching shop at home late at night..Don West had Goldin on myriad times hawking cards and stuff 😆😂😂...guy is a reincarnated Buick salesman!!! I'm absolutely DYING over here!!!

I was holding off watching your review, until I saw the second season (which I now have).
I commented on your recap on the first season, and have since softened my view of Ken, Goldin, and the series (somewhat).

Like you, I find the series embellished in many ways, and view it as entertainment. I maintain that Goldin probably isn't a company I'd want to do business with (although, cash is king); however, I respect Ken's 'hustle', that he's responsive to complaints and concerns of customers, and his relentless quest for success (which, inevitably, results in higher results for those trusting him with their items). He has maintained relationships with some 'heavy hitters' for decades - and yes, it may be a mutually beneficial relationship for both parties, but he has kept them regardless.
Regarding that video game collection, if I recall, the cameras were inside the house when the owner was opening the door.
As set up as a You Tuber filming himself walking on the street past his camera (which he then has to walk back off-camera and pick up). I'm not a video game man, but that collection was a jaw-dropper! I loved the way he had it set up. The man has an eye for detail and, like Pac Man, a relentless quest to gobble up everything in his path!
I enjoyed the series, but I wish there were more shows out there to compete with it. Looking forward to a third season (if they are doing one). 👍

Binged the show last weekend and enjoyed it. Only complaint was the absolutely insufferable soundtrack. We get it, Ken Goldin is the "NUMBER ONE KING HARD WORK BOSS HUSTLER" lol

I think your review is spot on. I binged all 8 today and really enjoyed it. Kinda bummed it's over now, but I did that to myself lol. The bid incoming thing is kind of cheesey but at the end of the day, it is a drama show on Netflix, and admittedly, it does kind of add to the suspense (especially with the Messi card, no spoilees). Overall though, yeah, all the characters are pretty cool and seem genuinely down to earth, and the guests are great, too. But that video game house.....just wow....

I like the show but I find his daughter to be really obnoxious and too much of a jersey shore vibe to the whole show as well.

Been a while since I watched season 1 of the show, but I hated it. I thought it was void of authenticity and totally soulless. The show’s focus is more commissions than collectibles-which would be fine if they bothered to at least feign an interest or appreciation for the items and their owners, a la Pawn Stars or American Pickers, but Ken Golden & co. couldn’t be more obvious about what they’re all about.
And because Golden only deals in rare, big-ticket memorabilia, no transaction is ever a “feel good” one, because it’s either some average Joe getting hustled or some rich prick making good on another “wise investment”.
    Just. Ick.

Bonds was the most talented ball player since Willie Mays. He has a H.O.F. career before the steroids controversy. He only participated in what MLB silently sanctioned because it made the game exciting ,and profitable again

I enjoyed the first season. Especially seeing Ric Flair and his robe they sold. It takes some of the fun and intrigue out of the deals when you know they are set up or already done. Still, I’ll check out season 2! And yes, Ken comes off as a used car salesmen but the guy is super successful.

While the items and negotiations are 99% real, it is scripted. No one would promise a seller that they would have Wemby do a video promoting a card unless they knew they could make it happen. Goldin "scolded" the kid and told him it was a rookie mistake to make a promise like that. Netflix is trying to appeal to the masses not just us who collect. That's why they feature his daughter. She comes across as arrogant with an air of superiority on the show, IMO. The new guy they added that authenticates their autos is great. I'm sure you'll hear more about him in the future. As I like to see 52 Mantles, T206 Wagners, Action Comics #1, Amazing Fantasy #15, etc., I'll keep watching.

I watched all 8 episodes from season 2. I didn't understand that "Bid Incoming" thing either. I think it was created too since usually you just see the amount change. I am surprised that many of these people with incredible private collections agree to be on the show. The Marvel Precious Metal Gems Green set that the owner wanted $1.2 million is on their site now starting at $100K. It seems the LimoJet didn't even get a bid at $100K. Definitely a fun show.

My only problem with season 2 is when the wagner psa 9 is brought up. Acting like it's the best card on the planet when anyone that remotely knows cards, knows that the card was altered and should only be an authentic. It's not selling for 50 million with that knowledge.
