One of the things that colonizers are famous for is the idea of terra nullius - that the land is empty of people before they come to occupy it. The Balfour declaration makes for interesting reading. There was never any consultation or consideration given to the indigenous Palestinian people when the state of Israel was created. This has led to years of conflict and eventual genocide. Most Indigenous people are not based on ownership of land, they are sensitive and have reverence for the Earth and believe that we can not own the Earth. Occupation is a great way to make sense of the importance of allowing the Indigenous people to live with peace and harmony in a healthy and secure lifestyle that is fulfilling their needs and cultural activities. This should apply to all people equally with respect for all people equally with allowing the safety and autonomy to be viewed with respectful and caring perspectives. I suggested that Jerusalem becoming an international city because it is the home for three religions, and there be a two state solution. You would not believe the outcry against me for daring to defend Arabs.

Maryann, I was watching a music video of Midnight Oil singing “Our Beds Are Burning “. The comments were nasty, the common theme was Aboriginal people do not deserve Native Title Rights. I tried to explain how our people were abused, murdered and removed from traditional lands. How they were forbidden to speak their own languages and therefore language and culture were lost. Children removed from their families. A British person said, the land belongs to victorious and why should they apologise to the losers. Her view was would the Romans apologise to the Brits. No they wouldn’t, and why should they. I sort of understand Australians worried their property and businesses would be taken from them and give to the ‘lazy, drug addicted blacks’. But if they are so concerned about that, they investigate what Native title rights are and how does it affect them. They are fueled by hate and right wing media propaganda. I don’t understand the hated towards the Palestine people and the Muslin religion. They should have Rights to a homeland as much as anyone else. The current Israelis living there have only occupied that land continuously since after World War 2. Before that the 12 tribes left the area over approximately 2000 years ago and disbursed all over the world. Whether, by force / wars or due to climate crisis. Using your analogy the Palestinian people or whatever tribes they descended from have native Title Rights because of continuous occupation. It was British intervention or interference wanting to find a place to dump the Jews who survived the atrocities of the German regime. When will all this greed, hatred and the inability to live in harmony with other humans and the world we live on end?
Until Israel admits their state came as a spoil of war, that the English once again considered the native people as non-existent, and gave the best land to the Jews as promised - until the Palestinians are recognized as the rightful owners of the land, which includes the better land now called Israel - until religion is once again relegated to its correct space which is *not* in government.....how can the 2 state solution come to be? I believe in a 3 state solution with Israel, Palestine, and Jerusalem becoming a city-state much like Vatican City - but under the guidance of the United Nations because 3 major religions being centered in that city.

With you 100% on Israel and its "possession." It is not right to divide any land on basis of religion--Hitler's cruelty did not justify a land conflict anyplace. It's uncomfortable to say after years of brow-beating the world and cheering on that state's dominance, but no one has the right to outplace the indigenous and believe that land could be gifted to anyone.
