Every time you said you wanna see the local street food or wanna support the local street food or local community and that's me so emotional, best choice ^^
I visited Phnom Krom a couple times and was heartbreaking to see the level of poverty inside that village. You had a shot of groups of homes in the distance and I was fortunate to wander through them. In fact I was able to help them a bit the next trip by buying 50 kilo bags of rice and some flip flops for some children. I just couldn't walk away from that without helping. It hardly made a dent but put smiles on faces for a short period of time. Thanks for your video and am glad you experienced it
It’s really great that what they are doing is working, we’ve just been in phnom Penh and you can see there that there is really positive growth for the country happening. It’s really good to see! 🙏❤️
Hi Franc and Sarah. I am Cambodian born, US based. Thank you for giving Siem Reap locals a chance and share the real Cambodian experience, highlighting the struggles of the people and the socio-economic disparity in the most touristic province of Cambodia. It's refreshing to see more and more travelers opt for a more authentic experience as supposed to the touristy stuff. It is an unfortunate fact that much of the profit the province accumulated from tourism has not been put to benefit the local people. Plus, the province is still impacted by the loss of the tourists since the start of the pandemic. This is something our local officials need to work on to make sure people are taken care of. I hope you have a pleasant time in Cambodia and safe travels.
Thank you for your comment! Everything you’ve said is so true and you can really feel it being here, but you can see that growth is slowly happening as well which is nice ❤️ We really hope the best for Cambodia, it is a truely great country 🙌🏽❤️
Oh wow! Thank you heaps for booking Mr John for a few days in Siem Reap ❤️ I’m stoked for him to have some extra business, it really means a lot to us! 🙏🙏
John is a really genuinely lovely person. We were so grateful he could show us the real Cambodia ❤️ Yeah you can, we haven’t been game enough to rent one yet. Haha
IT WAS NOT A GOOD COMPARISON BETWEEN THE TEMPLE AND THE COMMUNITY. The temple is belong to the public and it was donated and built by the public. The temple is for the rich, the poor, and middle class people. Temple are always paint in gold color. If it is real gold, the temple would have been gone. The gold color signify purity (I believe). I strongly believe that temple was not the high end type of buildings by looking at the decoration and garden (no disrespect intended). I currently live in California. Some cities area are nicer and some nearby are run down. Some cities are not safe to travel even during the day time. Just my thought.
@11:35 is the list of donors who contributed to the temple building. Your inference that the funds used to build the temple are funded by the government is factually incorrect, those same poor people in the area most likely have donated to the temple. Having said that, the government have not done enough to improve the living standards.
Its just shows that they haven't given up they are get-go people,as for money the rich there will always look after themselves but again we cant say that they might have a heart and do help the locals by how much its not possible to say. Also, it's not that far from the main part of Siem Reap as you maintioned the slums. Over all they are getting on with there lives but they need help from the government. We are privileged to have everything we need but to these people a meal, survival is more important then designer clothing, or a fancy watch or a fancy car.👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏
I understand what you are saying you saying about golden Wat " temple " but temples are place for them to worship and inspire, it also symbolic place for them to carry flame for the next generation if the flame die the culture die and that what happen during Khmer Rouge the flame almost die because they ban worship place "wat". Cambodia been through many wars then any country southeast Asia. All the wars Cambodia don't want it but we the west country ( Frence, American ) bring all these wars to their home. Cambodia identifies themself as Khmer people and these people are resilient. In 10 or 30years these people will get these mess. I been in Southeast Asia many times and they get better.
I feel the same way about catholic churches, the Vatican,, or whatever religious structure. However, remember that those are a big part of many people's lives, it's where they congregate, celebrate life or death. It's a shelter for their beliefs, they make offerings even if they can barely afford food. It's spiritual, it's in their soul. When monks do their alms round, people are happy to give them food in exchange for their blessing. We can't relate to that, but we can respect it 😊
Exactly! Most Khmer will go all in , in the name of Buddha regardless whether they have enough to feed their family. Most Khmer never question where was God or Gods during those four years.
Poverty - everywhere you looked outside the tourist trap areas of the city for the most part ? An awful reality in many parts of the world unfortunately ? > So damn sad for so many.
Really hits you seeing the locals in rural areas. Just very sad. Hope the local authorities/government will help the people in dire need. Take them out of poverty with government aid.
yes it is the names who donated to that temple. and it is the khmer tradition for long time that when they donated sth to temple they should have their name on it so their grandchildren and next generation can come one day in that temple and know that their ancestors used to come to this temple. so they can come and do sth better for temple and for that villagers in next generation to generation.
@@franclyspeaking I am Cambodian and living in Sydney. Very appreciated to explore 🇰🇭 ( land of smile). Cambodia just form one government in 1998 only after civil war inside country. And government trying so hard to lift up poverty during this 24 years time.

Reminded me in many ways of my village and surroundings. The people have little in terms of material wealth BUT they are happy - perhaps because they no know different. In my opinion the West has got it wrong and what really is the American dream (work to borrow so you can have a bigger house, newer car and bigger TV than your neighbour) - I'll take rural Asian living any day. Wow that must have been life changing going into the village, it’s really devastating to see but so happy you were able to help them out ❤️
Life expectancy has improved greatly over the last 20 years in Cambodia and on the same note poverty has decreased. What they are doing is working.
