I like honesty. There is some comfort in knowing about the struggles of a photographer who is much better than I am. It reminds me of the illusion I have held that all good photographers come home with quality keepers every time out. I also am learning, as my photography improves, that fewer and fewer images are acceptable. What was fairly good for my ability a year ago, does not cut it today, as my knowledge and ability have improved as I grow. I understand this is common. I enjoyed this video, Duade.
Thanks Jim, yes, your words resonate with me and we all struggle, especially as we build our portfolios and want to improve on what we already have. Cheers, Duade
Duade your videos are more than then the final image. We love to see your journey, the prep and your endearing conversations of the whole process. Honest, educational and entertaining content. That’s what we’re here for 👍👍👍
I most definitely have more crap days (photographically) than good days. However, for me, the solitude and quiet is as important, if not more important, than the actual results I get. I have never had much confidence in my own abilities and I'm often wracked with self doubt Age and physical issues mean that I cannot cover the distances that I used to do. I often find myself visiting the same locations where the terrain is easier and there are places where I can just sit and relax whilst still hoping that something interesting may come along when there is some decent light. If I can come away with one image that I'm happy with then I consider that to be a success. Great video Duade.
Duade, I love this video and message. The process of capturing good images is difficult, and we often do not get the whole story of a successful capture. I think it is just as entertaining and useful to hear about the struggles and mistakes along the way! I think this is why I resonate so much with your youtube channel... you make it personal and truthful. You have always been candid about what photography means to you, and how it has helped you. Don't let the pressure of a video get to you! We are here to consume the content if you have a once in a lifetime shot or not!
Thanks, Duade, for sharing this “behind the scenes” video. Videos like this actually help us remember that there is a real person making the video, someone who struggles at times when trying to create quality content for our consumption. RUclips viewers, I think, may sometimes not fully appreciate the intense pressure that creators feel when working to make quality content regularly. I was glad to see that you ended up being with a friend and then just relaxing and letting the bird-photos happen more organically. Like another viewer said, your videos are more than just about the final images... we love sharing your photo journey with you. Thanks again, Duade, for bringing us along with you.
The pressures of being a RUclipsr! The fact that you produce the most relatable and down to earth content, and come across as a super nice guy, means you don't have to rely on producing great shots every time. I always look forward to your videos, more than those of other photographers. Keep it going for us!
Duade, I think we all have those days, but your honesty and sincerity are every bit as engaging as your beautiful photos. So called "failures", or days when things don't go as we planned, are just as valuable as the good days, often more so. We typically learn much more from failure than we do from success, don't we? Now, if I can just remember these words the next time I have a less than perfect day 😂.
Sometimes the wildlife just doesn’t cooperate! Happens to all of us. I always learn from your videos, even if it’s what NOT to do! Keep up the great work, your always an inspiration.
Honestly such a honest and genuine video. And this video cannot be more accurate there have been so many moments in the field where I had such amazing high expectations and then midway through walking away and giving up many of my best photos have been taken so it’s really just about timing and just sticking around for the wildlife but such a good and honest video well done Duade. 👍🏻
Great video Duade, I reckon the mind set makes a big difference. For me, I have the principle of maintaining that the worst outcome of a photo trip is a nice walk in the bush even if I get no photos. Helps a lot when things are slow!
With the success in RUclips comes the pressure… thank you for sharing your struggles! Keep up your honest and down-to-earth ways, love your content every time!
It does create more pressure when you know you have to put together a video. My video titles sometimes have the word struggle in them if I have a hard time that day. Those videos often do very well. Then I'll have videos where I'm very happy with my day and occasionally they don't do as well. RUclips is weird. I enjoyed your morning even if it wasn't amazing, it was still fun to come along on your shoot.
Very very early in my photography journey, I took this advice from a landscape photographer: if I end up with 10 amazing "portofolio worthy" shots, it's been a good year. The number is arbitrary, but it feels right to me and it makes me not be disappointed when I come home empty-handed, lets me enjoy the process even if I don't have the results to show. And when I eventually get that wow photo, it's just icing on the cake.
i loved that video so much, Duade! You know what i would really like, a POV Video of you taking photos, taking us with you even more on your little adventures. Never stop creating, take care💚
Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. I not a RUclips content creator, but I still often experience the negative self-talk in my photography experience (not having a promising roll of shots to edit, feeling like every post or print isn’t mindbendingly amazing, etc.). It’s reassuring to see someone as I accomplished as you acknowledging similar thoughts in times when “the magic” isn’t immediately there.
Duade, what I enjoy the most from your RUclips video is your honestly. I think most of us know how hard and time consuming this video's are to make. Please just keep producing so we all can enjoy your videos.
I wish you could eavesdrop on my family talking about your videos. We all look forward to them more than any other on YT. And to hear you say you have deleted others like this... Duade... get them out of that recycle bin pronto :) We just like spending time with you, and to see beautiful birds, wildlife, landscapes, or hear your opinion of camera gear is a big bonus. We love you.
Yes, exactly! But, I fear that recycling bin is already emptied... it's a sin, isn't it? But, I guess we have to salute the man for his integrity about what quality he want his content to have, even though WE think he's to hard on himself.
Almost every time I go out, it’s a success - of some type. Sometimes it’s just great to go out with friends, or just to be surrounded by the beautiful scenery, or see, if not photograph interesting behavior. Sometimes, I even get good photographs, which often, is the icing on the cake. These days, the combination of good friends, beautiful scenery and interesting wildlife is way more important to me than coming home with THE shot.
I think we all forget that sometimes, it's not about the photos, it's about the experience. We put ourselves under too much pressure to get 'the shot', but I often go out and don't even take my camera out of the bag, but I still feel that the walk has done me good and it's far better than staying home. I live in the UK and have never been to Aus. It's always been on my list and would love to get there eventually. I don't know if you do it already (or something you've considered) but your passion, knowledge and infectious love for the mix of birds and photography lends you to being a briliant guide. Take one or a couple of people with you and enjoy it as a small group. Maybe you've already considered it and decided it's not for you, but like everything else, you never know until you give it a go. You could do few and stop if it doesn't work for you. Absolutely love your channel, but please, never feel under any pressure to put out content - life's more important.
Had more than a few days in the field like this. In fact, the total or nearly total failed days outnumber the good outings at least 3 or 4 to 1. Most recently, I spent nearly six hours out in the middle of a National Wildlife Refuge and only came away with a single decent shot of a butterfly. Can't imagine how much more challenging it would be if I had been trying to record video at the same time. This is exactly what we all need to see. Thanks Duade for being REAL!
I have many days like this that can be demoralising, thanks for sharing one if yours to keep it real. I wouldn't wish them on anyone but it is good to know it happens to everyone.
I really appreciate these didn't quite work out videos. They are real and authentic. They connect to us all because we all experience this kind of not quite hoped for moments. I call them my practice days. I always learn something - so they aren't a complete loss.
Duade. Wonderful video. I love all your videos so please do keep making them. Your honesty and openness is a breath of fresh air... I enjoy every moment of your journeys!! Thanks for sharing.
I struggle most times. It always feels like luck. But then when I’m editing I realize the small things I’d done better and I see the results in the edits. Thanks for the encouragement.
When I started photographing birds, the difference in image quality between what was on the web vs. what my images looked like almost made me quit. Photography journeys from field to final image by you and select few are practical and educational. Keep up the good work!
Duade I watch because I appreciate how authentic you are. We're our own worst critics. When I started photography I didn't know what good gear was and shot with point and shoot cameras for almost two years. I cringe looking at my first photos now, but I also want to channel my excitement about just taking pictures before I had standards as I go into the new year.
Duade, I want to echo what so many others have said in the comments. We love watching your videos because of your honesty and sincerity. Every photographer has failures. Most RUclipsrs don't show that and only show the success. You have reminded everyone of the reality.
Hi Duade. Just like many other comments - we don't always expect to see fantastic images every time you go out. Just 'being with you' when you got out at 4:30 on a beautiful Australian summer morning to take in the scenery and the wildlife is more than enough for us. In my North East UK world at the moment we are in the darkest days of the year, dark with lights on at 3:00 this afternoon and It's been such a wet and miserable winters day it never really got light at all. So a bit of Aussie summer in your company with or without your best images is always worth a watch. I've sent you a separate e-mail with a copy of UK Landscape photographer Thomas Heaton's latest newsletter. He's titled it 'When things don't go to plan' and covers very much the same thoughts and feelings that you do in this video, you are definitely not alone. Keep up the good work. John
And there's the reason I haven't even thought about going "pro"! Had so many people over the years ask why I don't look at doing this thing for a living, my view on it is "why turn a relaxing hobby into a stressfull living?" Can head out for a full day of birding and happily come home with a handful of shots and not feel worried about it, being out there enjoying it trumps getting keeper shots!
Uh-oh, the crippling weight of self-imposed goals and the self-critique about said goals... And what I, and many with me, really are interested in is having a look at your surrounding nature seen through your B-roll camera. And, ofc, the natural charm of yourself AND the results of the A-unit (i e the camera you take photos and video with)! Especially now (for me) when the dark mid-winter is hastily approaching and the remaining birds almost can be counted on the hand's fingers. Which means the material I can upload on my YT-channel starts to get x-tremely repetetive, with very few birds, mostly the ones that frequent our (me and my partner's) forest bird-feeding station. Then it's so lovely to relish upon the plethora of birds you see, when out and about. Selfishly I'd like to scould you, telling you to not *dare* deleting any videos... However, I also understand what you mean, so I'm happy that you kinda changed the "storyline" on this video, so it felt that it filled a purpose. It also had a good "moral conclusion": you let the YT-content-pressure disappear into just pure self-enjoyment of taking photos for YOURSELF. Which is what it's all about, ultimately. At least in my opinion. But then, I watch your videos much less for photo-improvement and much more for Aussie-birds in Aussie-nature! (And the occasional sightings of a )
Thanks Pia, I appreciate the feedback and thoughts, yes, I can get in my head a bit and feel the pressure but I just have to enjoy myself and the images will come. Cheers, Duade
I’d hope that most, if not all of your subscribers understand from your videos that it’s never easy just finding decent photo opportunities, let alone making a video of it. You’re always honest and open, and your mantra of “Give it another five minutes” tells us all that you’ve been there already when there’s little or nothing to photograph, and you accept that it’ll happen again. And that’s one of the factors that makes taking just one nice photo so special, and worth striving for. You look so disappointed in this video, almost defeated. Please bounce back mate! 👍👍😎
Thanks Tony, I appreciate the feedback, yes, I was a little hard on myself to be honest, thankfully I have been having fun with the 200-800. Cheers, Duade
oh m8, I'd rather watch 100 videos of you struggling to get the 'perfect' shot than some perfect video where you get exactly the shots you wanted. Keep 'em coming. There's nothing to be ashamed of.
Yes wildlife and landscape photography requires persistence and patience. If you could get banger shots every session it would take the specialness away. You provide a lot of valuable information and entertainment on your channel. There are thousands of viewers who watch, enjoy and value your content ( and you as a person). Looking forward to the 200-800 session. Cheers mate.
To be honest Duade - I enjoy all your videos - the fact that you are one of the only creators who discusses mistakes and general issues with photography makes your content all the more ‘real’. Keep doing what you’re doing 😊 My last trip out I drove for 1.5 hours to a lake to find it fogbound, and the conditions only improved for 10 minutes in the whole day…. Oh, and the temperature was at freezing point !!!!
Hi Duade, honest video mate. I question my ability all the time, my images aren’t as sharp as his, I don’t have a decent lens like that, the weather is rubbish today, I can’t edit as good as that etc. I like to hear stories about the failures as that only makes you better. Only sad thing is the pressure you seem to put on yourself to create. Your videos are fantastic, the joy, passion and emotion you add is fantastic and make every video worth watching. 👍
Thanks mate, yes, I am probably a little harsh and I do feel a bit of pressure, but as I expected the feedback has been very kind and motivating to continue doing what I am doing. Cheers, Duade
Videos like this are important! This “bangers only” culture we photographers have is the worst. Shoot for fun! Shoot for yourself! And most importantly, post your mediocre photos! If the photos are just okay, they’re okay and worth sharing. And I think it will help others not feel as bad about their photos. Let’s lower the standard for posting photos. Obviously post your bangers also though, but they aren’t the only ones worth sharing. I share so many mediocre photos and I feel great about it.
I'm constantly questioning my abilities. Just this week I went out to a regular spot and spent 4 hours out and didn't get any good photos. I love that you shared this video, and that it's not just me struggling. Your videos continue to motivate and inspire me. Thank you for sharing your successes and struggles with us all!
Of the many, many photography videos that I seek out and watch, yours are the ONLY ones that I look forward to with an unrelenting anticipation. Why???....because you consistently make me feel that I am there with you, sharing an adventure and gaining insight into the challenges that you so vividly display with your highly developed video and still photography skills. Never, ever underestimate your technical, and more importantly, story telling skills......BRAVO times 10!!
Thank goodness - I thought it was just me! Actually I often think I have a talent for going to exactly the wrong location, my settings are never 'right', and it's so hard. Glad to hear it is sometimes hard for you too. 🙂
The second Purple Swamphen with the full reflection would have made my day. Glad you were out early and got the sunrise. I went out yesterday and saw maybe 20 Sandhill Cranes where there are usually hundreds. I think all birders can relate to disappointing mornings. It's part of the package.
I love your honest approach, self criticism and your self expectations. You are creating excellent content and your tips and inspiration has improved my skills a lot. Thanks.
I don’t really post videos so I don’t have that added pressure but I certainly know failure. Not really failure, but what I perceive as failure. Then comes that one day when it all comes together and I forget the cold, rainy failure days. It’s what gets me back out there the next time. Failures are just practice!!!
I think we all have times when things don't work out as expected. Sometimes it's because we let our expectations get out of control. Other times it's because we are not fortune tellers.
I am so thankful that my photography is a by product of getting out into the bush with my children or grandchildren and the photos are just a reminder of precious time spent with them...I am never under pressure to get the perfect shot. I would not enjoy it as much as I do if it were work. I do feel where you are coming from...thanms for sharing your time with us...
Great video. I suppose it is ironic that a video on one's perceived failures could be an inspiration, but here we are! This happens to me a lot. Even sometimes with the editing process where I just don't know what to do anymore and want to give up.
Thanks Desire, I think its just nice to know we all struggle from times and it is normal and if we simply just try to enjoy the process the photos will usually come. Cheers, Duade
I can't speak for others, but these are great videos for me. It's healthy to hear about other people's struggles. It makes me not feel alone. Thank you.
Honestly Duade, I'm actually pretty jealous of your general attitude regarding sucessful outings. You are always so increadibly positive and find fun in all of your encounters. I actually end up dissapointed with my results more often than not after a morning of photographing and you are a genuine motivation to adjust my mindset as it just isn't worth it to worry so much. So, thank you for your view on things and showing us that you also struggle sometimes. Cheers, Florian
Thanks Florian, yes, I think its normal to struggle and have some doubts, I think I just need to remind myself to just have fun regardless of the outcome and not put too much pressure on myself. Cheers, Duade
Hello Duade. I know the feeling you had very well. I only take stills, but from time to time things never go as I wanted to. Sometimes I have to wait for hours before I get some good shots, and sometimes I had to change subjects as well. But that works fine with me, as this is my hobby, not something I have as a living. That said, I love that you share your feelings when things never go well, as that is a part of photography you never heard much of. And you sure get some nice pictures at the end.
I started my wildlife photo journey during the pandemic…I am very new to it. I am a professional food photographer…but wildlife moves..and the light is ever changing. I found your channel after a particularly difficult day when I thought I took the worst shots since I started. In that video you said that that sometimes you just need to go out and shoot with no expectation. That is exactly what I needed to hear at that moment…I have learned so much from your videos..thank you for all of the content…it means so much to so many. You are amazing! 📸
I think that the story of your video reflects on how sometimes we go out on the field and have one of those days. The frustration we fill. The doubts in our minds that we should just quit. Just like you most of us keep going and sometimes the end results are amazing. Excellent video and an amazing message. Thank you.
Thanks. I'm happy you shared your frustration and the sense of a lost target/not worthing the effort, and blaming yourself. That make me a little less alone, it happens so often!
This is something i think many have felt mate. I often comes back to my house without the photos i did go out to get. But that's just how it is with wildlife photo. Even if you go to a place where there normally is a lot of birds and action, some days are totally "dead" with very little activity. I also comes home some days with a lot of photos, but no one that i feel is good enough to share with others. Making this video sharing your thoughts about this, I think was very nice done. Honest videos about this beautiful hobby, that can be so difficult and frustrating sometimes, is so important for those who are starting out with nature photo. Important that they know that things are not always easy, and that never giving up is the answer. Thanks again for this video mate, and have a great week. Cheers, Bjoern
Hi Duade. Thank you for sharing this video as well as your negative thoughts. It is a very powerful message to share. It highlights that time out with your camera and possibly a friend is not a waste of time. Thanks again mate
I've learnt that being attached to an outcome is one of the biggest barriers to creativity. It makes me oblivious to other photo opportunities in the field. I just get out there and enjoy myself and whatever happens, happens. I may get a "wow shot", I may not. But it's not the end of the world, and there are tons of opportunities ahead, waiting to unfold. I just let it go...
I think it’s absolutely understandable that morale sags when things are not going right. Add to that 4 - 5 hours daylight and the ongoing dismal winter weather in the UK at the moment and it’s easy just not to bother going out. But I always feel better having gone out, even if I don’t get many keepers. It’s still observing nature and makes the good days even more memorable in my view.
Very important video. Today I didn't photograph anything interesting, but the point is not to have a great photo every time, but to be able to enjoy photographing the reality that surrounds us. Duade, you are a great educator and thank you for all your videos. Greetings from Poland.
I think it’s great when people like yourself, who create amazing images, are just open and honest about their process, when things don’t go as we imagine or would like. Such is life. I too have gone out with an idea of what I’d like from my photography and the day turned out to be completely different. Many times with meh images or none at all. But when it all comes together that’s what makes the other times worthwhile, the excitement of creating an image we like, love or even adore 👍 Love what you do, when the neg thoughts pop in, encourage your brain to go count the blades of grass or something similar - keep it busy 😊
Duade you need to remember the vlogs are about you first, we then follow along in your adventures. Go out expecting nothing and maybe say "Let's see what's in the area we can take images of today". That will cover you and if there is nothing, say so at the end. We all have days where we come back with nothing, it is normal for all of us so why would we expect you to be any different! Just relax, focus on yourself and make the vlogs, we will enjoy them regardless of photos or not. See you out there!
Duade, we enjoy all you adventures, trips, expeditions, walks in natures -we should not be a pressure for you - it is human to be afraid ti fail but you never let us down, mainly because we love seing you enjoying your time out with nature ! We are with you and your honest self every time, even in a day like this one - which is also somehow good to see because it looks like most of my day out hunting for a nice pix ! thank you for sharing this tough one too ! now back out !
That purple swamphen shot is absolutely breathtaking Duade! We see so many bird photos taken at long focal lengths, that a wider shot like that really stands out and makes a visual impact, especially because it allows so much more of the background to be included in the frame.
Anyone involved in creative endeavors from photography, writing, music, and painting have periods of self doubt punctuated by moments of elation. These are experimental undertakings. The reward is great when you picture the finale image in your mind before you press the shutter. Then watch the image come to fruition on your computer screen in post. Always remember how you felt when an image exceeded your highest expectations. That will definitely motivate you continue on your creative journey.
That's the breaks, Mate! I often go out and don't see anything, but it doesn't get me down. I understand that nature is that way, but then again I don't have a huge following that expects a video from me. You do a great job! Don't be so hard on yourself!
I love these type of videos it’s a way to learn and gain real insight from ppl with experience and makes the journey as beginners less intimidating. A reminder the art is an ever growing journey. Thank you for also mentioning the self doubt you also dealt with
Thanks for your honesty and what is still an interesting video. I'm not a content creator but fairly active in a photography club and frequently telling new members that we do this for an experience not just the final product. I've tried hard to salvage disappointing mornings and it's great that someone so admired shared their own experience so honestly. I was actually really captivated by the whole burnt forest of trees. Thanks again for another great video, I don't think they all have to be "highlight reels" and will keep watching your channel even if it's not 20 minutes of perfect bird shots.
That’s the nature of nature photography … can be exhilarating one minute and not the next full of compositional and technical mistakes like forgetting to cancel your last exposure compensation setting… love your work and I can relate to the struggle of delivering good photography.
Duade, I so much enjoy your videos. You are one of maybe 5 that I watch regularly..all for different fine points. I’m a 3rd year rookie and I’m just trying to gain confidence in my gear and in my abilities. I have some good shots and I have a whole library of bad ones. I don’t belong to a club, nor do I have any photographer friends. My successes come from watching great content creators like yourself and being determined to learn what they know. I remember the first video of yours that I watched..you were crawling around in the mud on the side of a pond and I knew then that this hobby was going to be more than I had anticipated! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us.
Thank you for being human. Cheers, it gives us the strength to keep going, we are nature photographers, we have control over nothing, you never know what you'll get. But it is so worth it.
People that really stick with wildlife photography tend to do it because they love being outside and enjoying nature and the animals they may get lucky enough to photograph. But yes, I think as we progress, like with anything, we constantly set that bar higher on what we expect, or at least want, out of our results. It's good to be humbled sometimes as it makes you appreciate those amazing sessions that you get just that much more. I appreciate the videos because of the attitude I see in them, lots of joy and at times general awe of what going on around you. Great work, regardless of what get imported into Lightroom later in the day. Cheers!
Duade, I just like to see your process. I love the photos that you captured. Even if you came away with nothing, I would be delighted to see this landscape and this wildlife. I’ll never get to see these in person! I like to hear about your field craft. Using the light, getting low. How you approach a scene. You could even tell us more about the birds, their habits, nesting, migrations. It’s all good stuff!
Don't be too hard on yourself, Duade. I love to see your videoes in no particular order. They are all great to watch. And you are such an honest bloke. Cheers. Bird photography is probably The most difficult genre of photography. Just think of the minuscule difficulties that landscape photographers have to deal with. One of the reasons that birds are such a wonder, is just have unpredictable they are in the first place. We all anticipate the great moment, and one day it will happen if we continue chasing that moment. Keep up that Aussie spirit and I'll see you in the next video.
Another great video. I really enjoy seeing that some days "The photo" doesn't get done. I have had my share that is for sure, but other days are like serendipity. Nature photography and especially birds is always a strange adventure. I kind of like it myself, you never know what you might see. There can be expectations as certain areas are more prone to a certain variety of wildlife but some are so unexpected and so special. As always your work is appreciated.
Great photos of the swamphens! As much as I love the photos you show I always enjoy your attitude and enjoyment of the birds and the photography more! We all have off days or don’t get the shots we want and that’s important to remember.
I can totally relate to what you’re saying going out and struggling to get any kind of photo, but I found it when you do get that photo you feel that you’ve got something that was it just excites me so much and keeps me wanting to go out and do what I wanna do the other problem is I don’t have the opportunities to go out as much as I would like to because I feel that I learn every time I go out and do something and I believe we are really hard on ourselves
There are times when I go and it seems like I just can't moss, but there are more times when I wonder what I'm doing because nothing goes right. So you aren't the only one that struggles. Keep up the good work!
Photography is subjective, those photos are amazing and I am guilty for being too hard on my self. I have many photos I almost deleted becuase I didn't think they were good.
When it comes to failures, I feel I get more inspired when a master of the arts can reveal their failures. When you believe in an expectation that a master/professional never makes mistakes, it becomes an almost unachievable goal to reach their level. However, when you see that even a master of the craft can still learn, still make mistakes, you can than tell yourself that nothing is unachievable as long as you keep making mistakes and learning from them.
Thanks for sharing and your honesty another perspective is it’s all about the joy of being out there and a shot or video is the bonus or icing on the cake
That’s Duade for this video, I can relate. I often feel pressure (put on by myself) to constantly come up with a better photo than my last outing, so when I spend hours waiting and not finding it,one starts to have doubts about their ability as a photographer. If I feel that way with no one to actually please, I cannot imagine the pressure you must feel as a content provider (one of the best) Cheers Duade, Happy Christmas.
Highly recognizable. The biggest enemy of great pictures are usually our own disappointment with what we have made so far. Taking it as it comes is the only way out. sometimes it helps to create a better picture, but even then we all miss a head in the reflection from time to time. Great that you decided to share the video.
Hi :) thanks for your video and sharing the story. For sports experience sounds like you are "over trained". Take a short brake feel hunger for the shots and it will be more natural to change perspective. That happen to all of us. Looking forward for more from you soon.
Appreciate the honesty and completely understand the frustration. Think it gives everyone perspective in that you don't always go out and take spectacular photos (although I enjoyed the ones you did take this video). We tend to only post the really good ones so this shows both sides of it. We work with what we got. Appreciate the videos as always. (if it makes you feel any better, last weekend I drove an hour away to a place for it to be super foggy until right when I was leaving)
I like honesty. There is some comfort in knowing about the struggles of a photographer who is much better than I am. Duade your videos are more than then the final image. We love to see your journey, the prep and your endearing conversations of the whole process. Honest, educational and entertaining content. That’s what we’re here for 👍👍👍
Thanks for the feedback, it is nice to hear, Cheers, Duade
You said it perfectly mirroring my feeing as well. This is why I am following him and have become a member.
Agree! You’re enjoyable to watch.

I can honestly say if I did a video on my failures it would be way longer than this one 😅 Your honesty is refreshing.
Mine even longer 😂
Thanks mate, you are too kind, Cheers, DUade
Thanks for the kind words Mark, I apprecaite it and happy to share the reality of it all. Cheers, Duade
Thanks for the kind words, I really do appreciate it and I will remember for next time, Cheers, Duade
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it, Cheers, DUade
It does create more pressure when you know you have to put together a video. My video titles sometimes have the word struggle in them if I have a hard time that day. Those videos often do very well. Then I'll have videos where I'm very happy with my day and occasionally they don't do as well. RUclips is weird. I enjoyed your morning even if it wasn't amazing, it was still fun to come along on your shoot.
Thanks mate, very true and I will remember that next time. Cheers, Duade
Great advice that I need to take on board, thanks for the message, Cheers, Duade
i loved that video so much, Duade!
Thanks Joan, you are too kind and I will take the kind feedback on board, unfortunately those videos are gone :-( Cheers,Duade
Thanks mate, very true and a wonderful mindset to have when out in the field. Cheers, Duade
Just gotta relax we watch and enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it, glad to hear I am not the only one who struggles, Cheers, Duade
I have many days like this that can be demoralising, thanks for sharing one if yours to keep it real. I wouldn't wish them on anyone but it is good to know it happens to everyone.
Thanks for the feedback, yes, important we all understand that everyone goes through ups and downs. Cheers, Duade
I don’t watch your videos to see beautiful images, I watch your videos to learn from your thought process. Please keep sharing what’s in your head.
Thanks Rich, you are too kind, I appreciate the feedback, Cheers, Duade
A great video that demonstrates how good photographs are often not planned but are spontaneous. Right place; right time. Wrong place; wrong time.
I don’t know about anyone else but I’m here for the journey not just the final image. Great video Duade!
John
Thanks mate and thanks for the email, lots of wisdom there, much appreciated, Cheers, Duade
An honest person is always good enough. Something worth remembering, when we sink into self-recrimination.
You share a journey many of us are making! Thank you for being open and honest - it is much more encouraging than many wildlife video’s.
oh m8, I'd rather watch 100 videos of you struggling to get the 'perfect' shot than some perfect video where you get exactly the shots you wanted.
Keep doing what you’re doing 😊
My last trip out I drove for 1.5 hours to a lake to find it fogbound, and the conditions only improved for 10 minutes in the whole day…. Oh, and the temperature was at freezing point !!!!
Your problem Duade is you worry far to much mate, just keep doing what your doing and everything is fine mate.🙃🙂
Thanks John, you are too kind, I apprecaite the feedback and glad you enjoy the videos. Cheers, Duade
Thanks.
You have experienced what we ALL have experienced. Sometimes the birds are just not where you want or need them to be.
Keep up the good work!!
I don’t really post videos so I don’t have that added pressure but I certainly know failure. Not really failure, but what I perceive as failure. Then comes that one day when it all comes together and I forget the cold, rainy failure days. It’s what gets me back out there the next time. Failures are just practice!!!
Very true mate and its how we learn, Cheers, Duade
You obviously have unreasonably high expectations, I would have been absolutely thrilled with those first two shots.
I just let it go...
its always nice to be out in nature , so many things we control , and even more things we don,t control , just have fun
But when it all comes together that’s what makes the other times worthwhile, the excitement of creating an image we like, love or even adore 👍
Love what you do, when the neg thoughts pop in, encourage your brain to go count the blades of grass or something similar - keep it busy 😊
Thanks Will, I am trying to do more of these shots so I am happy you like it, Cheers, Duade
Great video Duade. Just know that the content we're here for is not your photos - it's you. Keep at it mate.
Thanks mate, I appreciate it, Cheers, Duade
Absolutely!
Thanks for this video. It shows not only novice amateurs fails but professionals do too.
Totally agree Bruce, it is that unknown which keeps us coming back and just enjoying nature is very special indeed. Cheers, Duade
Thanks mate, yes, I am a little too harsh on myself I think, Cheers, Duade
Even a "bad" day enjoying nature and practicing photography is a pretty good day!
Very well said and I totally agree Tim, thanks for the reminder. Cheers, Duade
We are often hard on our self's. It good to stop take a moment like you did. Be Kind to yourself. :)
Thanks mate, I will, Cheers, Duade
When it comes to failures, I feel I get more inspired when a master of the arts can reveal their failures. When you believe in an expectation that a master/professional never makes mistakes, it becomes an almost unachievable goal to reach their level. However, when you see that even a master of the craft can still learn, still make mistakes, you can than tell yourself that nothing is unachievable as long as you keep making mistakes and learning from them.
Thanks for sharing and your honesty another perspective is it’s all about the joy of being out there and a shot or video is the bonus or icing on the cake
We like the videos because of you mate, not just the content.
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it, Cheers, Duade
That’s Duade for this video, I can relate. I often feel pressure (put on by myself) to constantly come up with a better photo than my last outing, so when I spend hours waiting and not finding it,one starts to have doubts about their ability as a photographer. If I feel that way with no one to actually please, I cannot imagine the pressure you must feel as a content provider (one of the best) Cheers Duade, Happy Christmas.
we love your attempt and honesty, it's always not about the perfect video, it's rather more about the moments and your efforts, :)
Duade, this is great content!
Thanks for the feedback, sounds about right, Cheers, DUade
Sometimes just hearing from you is great content, you are the channel 👍
Yes, exactly!
Thanks mate, you are too kind, Cheers, Duade
Appreciate the honesty and completely understand the frustration. Think it gives everyone perspective in that you don't always go out and take spectacular photos (although I enjoyed the ones you did take this video). We tend to only post the really good ones so this shows both sides of it. We work with what we got. Appreciate the videos as always. (if it makes you feel any better, last weekend I drove an hour away to a place for it to be super foggy until right when I was leaving)
