These are the drums from the drum doctors, an ebony finish 1980 gretsch kit. This could also be the same drums used on Megadeth's "Peace sells" by Gar Samuelson and Dark angels' Darkness descends. Gene hoglan said he used the same drum set that Megadeth rented from the drum doctors. If so this is a thrash metal icon of a drum set.
The ammount of customization of the sound you guys offer is astronomical. And although, some "very few" samples sound fake. But overall, nothing comes even close the the quality BFD has. Giving the power back to the producer was always the best goal, that you achieved.
I got these today. Kontakt. Really amazing. Some of the best sounding samples I have heard. The toms are rich. Kick is thick. Snare has snap. They are deep. Powerful. I have Slate and Trigger (all libs for both), SD3 with just about every kit, NI all. This one definitely stands tall. It feels the most real so far.
I'd say they got it, my brother has the kontakt version. you have to realize that the rest of the track in this video is pure shit, performance and mix. so that will effect how you perceive anything else that is in the mix. the drums will sound different.
Alfonso Martinez This is as close as anyone is going to get. If you have the time and money, try making your own sample library and I'd love to hear it.
A Gretsch USA Custom Maple with a Snare Tama PM 14x6.5 '' of 3mm Bell Brass?, This is the one or the best drums in the world. When he says, the same drum kit is almost that. In 90, Lars used as Toms 12, 13, 14 & 16x16 ''. The studio, the drumheads, the microphones are the same. It's just the cymbals that are different. In 90, the Zildjian A Custom did not exist yet (1993 but he never used before 2003 Live). It was Zildjian A's Traditional 17 & 18 "Medium-Thin and 16, 17 & 18" Medium Crashes. A Sabian AA 14 '' Medium Hi-Hat (and not a 15 '' Rock as the rumor wants). Two China, a 19 '' A China Boy High front and a 20 '' A China Boy Low back .. It's at one drum sound legacy for the Rock musics...
I can't load any presets/content into my BFD player. when I go to "add" and scan the folder where I installed the presets/libray it says "no new products were found". help.
The cymbals are nearly accurate except a pair of Sabian AAX? HHX? hi-hats were used. In addition, Zildjian K's were also seen in the album's documentary, A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica. Those same Sabian hi-hats were used in the latest Hardwired album if you watch their behind the scenes videos.
@@andrewfultz7472 “Absolutely not. Watch ‘A Year and A Half.’ You can see Lars recording the stuff and it sounds just like the record in the room.” Firstly, an elementary level of reading comprehension would serve you well here. I never claimed that Lars didn’t record his drums, I claimed that “the massive snare heard on the album was a sample used in post [production].” The snare you hear on the album is a superb mix of a recorded acoustic snare with an electronic snare sample. Secondly, Randy Staub engineered the record and has not only been open about using one shot electronic samples for most of his album, but has been open about using them for “Metallica.” Thirdly, you need to rewatch the aforementioned documentary as a fader labeled “snr (snare) sample” can be clearly seen. Fourthly, compare the audio from the room mics to the completed mix. Music producer, Rick Beato, who has worked with Randy Staub has done a video covering Randy Staub’s mixing techniques (watch?v=sJ_Rd2REQa0) focusing on “Metallica” around 4:00 and even compares the mic’d version to the sampled inclusion. Fifthly, listen extremely closely to the snare in, say, “Wherever I May Roam” throughout the song’s entirety. Any astute listener can hear minute changes as Randy adjusted the volumes of the sample and mic’d snare to his liking. In summary, Randy Staub has not been at all secretive about his use of electronic kick and snare samples when mixing various bands from Motley Crue, Metallica, or Nickelback. Some of the mixing faders in the self-same documentary YOU cited read “sample.” I am not going your homework for you by freely rewatching the documentary as I am a busy guy, but you should give pause when challenging a guy whose profile picture is LITERALLY one who is backstage with the band in question as he might know a thing or two about them.
3:31 What is that garbage tone coming out of a mesa!? How dare you let that be your final tone when you have such a precisely crafted tool at your disposal! The injustice (for all)! For shame!
Yeah, its a legendary sound. This is geeky, but if you listen the sound is huge. They'd call it a big sound and the snare is the loudest and deepest I've ever heard on that record. Same producer as Dr. Feelgood. That has a very similar sound. Any producer would consider it incredible
Ohh okay, i noticed that the drums sounded deep and really clean. now about the snare part, i noticed the snare holds it sound for a lot longer than like any other snare of all the other Metallica albums. is it good if a snare holds it sound for a long time after you hit it?
It's the same kit in the same room and it has nothing to do with that kit? What? Steven Slate heavily processed. With these drums you can easily get to the black album sound with the build in processing or just leave it more natural. So no, they didn't do it better. Just different. I prefer to dial my own sound thank you.
I would say the sound demo example ruined the drum sound, somehow its very behind, wher ein balck album they are the loudest instrument in the mix, even more then guitars itself. I use this expansion for 3.5 years and I simply adore it. Does it sound liek black album, hm not sure. Is it sounds good, oh yes, that is unquestionable.
Well what annoys me the most, is the cymbal hits. They sound the same on every hit. Kick ands toms rock. Hat pretty good. Snare a little bit too much the same but very good. Cymbals though I would replace with slate or Superior.
Can't decide if it's just the mixing or what, but I'm not impressed with this one at all... That snare is so weak it makes me cringe. The STEVEN SLATE DRUMS version definitely came the closest to nailing it, but I honestly can't see why this version missed the mark so badly; Some of BFD's other more progressive libraries, such as the CRUSH kit, sound fucking amazing and heavy as hell without even tweaking the presets.
Is the end song actually supposed to sound like black album drums? I mean the snare sounds nothing like it and the cymbals and toms are way to quiet. Most of the iconic sound comes from the way they mixed it where the cymbals and toms are fucking huge in the mix. All that money just to mix it incorrectly and use the wrong snare. Wow
final result sucks! not even close, the black album was not a drum sounds, the mejority of it was the music! the snare sounds NOTHING like the BA at all, no BA preset??
One of the greatest drum sounds ever recorded. From a production standpoint that album was massive.
It didn’t do too bad in terms of sales either! LOL
The face the drummer makes at 2:48 pretty much expresses what I imagine it's like to be a session musician for a sample library.
That’s the face of a man that thinks Lars Ulrich is lame and totally hates the fact that his recording drum-set is being re assembled.
@@xxgil2outdated Lars hate comment.

the black album drums sounds like... cannons
Bloody scary that that kit is the acual black album sound. I want to smash it too. So beautiful sounds.
Wanted to hear more of the actual room sound rather than the final song

they didn't achieve the sound
Yep sounds just like any other common sampled drumset, like plastic.

slate beats the shit outta this, black kit in ssd platinum sounds just like the album

The snare sounds like your hitting a pillow. Maybe that is too much compression?
NON CI POSSO CREDERE EDO SALA!!!!
You went through all that trouble to recreate the drums. Recording technical AND location....and that was the final result??
It's the raw sound.
If you want to get the same you have to add in compression and EQ to get that explosive sound.
People really dont get BFD3.
This sounds nothing like the Black Album drums.
The Slate sample that comes with Trigger 2 is much more accurate
Cool to see one on one studios has;nt aged at all unlike Metallica or me either.
