Cosner in Open Range popping that preening bad guy between the eyes without any qualms which started off one of the best gunfights Ive seen in awhile .
Agreed, but his 20 shot revolver really ruint that part. Lol
Best western shootout in cinema.
@@ComedyBros5 he loaded and had more than one I recall
@@wadetaylor1299 And a Winchester at one point.
@@PeterProctor yup your right bud
'Open Range' one of the best westerns in a long time. Suffered because of similarities at the start and end to 'My Darling Clementine'. Has one of the best, most realistic gunfight sequences ever put on film towards the end of movie. Duval and Costner give star turns. Highly recommended.
There are some themes and scenes that keep turning up again in westerns
@@famouspeople63 I just took it to be a hat tip to MDC not a rip off. Didn't spoil my enjoyment of OR one bit.
The movie was boring to the last 30 min.
Open Range is one of my all-time favorite movies. Robert Duval is one of the best actors ever, especially in westerns.
My favorite part was Kevin Costner's 13 shot revolver.
I've watched open range several times now and for me it's one of the best western movies, everything about it is so well done.
So glad that Open Range made your list. What a fine bit of movie making and casting. Another top shelf undervalued film wasn't a theatrical release, but a mini series movie, Broken Trail. It is one of the finest westerns ever made. It has so much soul. Probably the best role that Thomas Hayden Church has ever had. And of course, Robert Duvall did a spectacular job. The young Chinese women angle added so much to the story. I could go on and on about this movie. Truly wonderful.
Totally agree on both accounts!
Glade someone else remembers this movie. On the subject of tv movies the old Desperado movies are good that do not get talked about much.
I remember this movie. Realistic, heart-randing, and good guy wins with struggle. There is so much to love in this movie.
Absolutely beautiful movie. I agree about Thomas Hayden Church in this. Great call!
Absolutely agree!! Robert Duvall's character had one of the best quotable lines in any western. I'll paraphrase as I don't remember it word for word but here goes "from the sweet grass to the packing house, we live between the eternities,,". Think about that, truer words never spoken.
Charlton Heston's "Will Penny" is an excellent, largely forgotten western. I've seen about half of your list, and own 1/3 of them on BR or DVD.
Will Penny is a great film, another under-rated film is The Beguiling with Clint.
Superb movie, and i think i'm right in saying that it was Charlton Heston's favourite.
@@lawrencelewis2592 The Beguiled* But yes, that's a very underappreciated Eastwood classic.
One of the best westerns ever made. Saw it in the theater when I was 15.
@@rufust.firefly4890 I remember that my mother loved The Beguiled, but then she grew up in a movie theatre in the 1930s and she did have a fair knowledge of films.
Good list. Seen "Quigly Down Under" (1990) dozens of times, and the only modification to the rifle was the site, and his custom ammunition. Both were borrowed from another underated movie, "Valdez Is Coming" (1971), starring Burt Lancaster. The first time he uses the Sharps, you can see the site has the same adjustment as Quigly's, and when asked about his ammo, he answers "my own load", which Quigly also does. Love both films. "Open Range" is definately Top Ten! Another under rated gem is "Ulzana's Raid" starring Lancaster as a scout after an Apache raiding party.

Sight, not site.
I was gobsmacked that "Open Range" was in this list, it is one of my favourite films of all time, with two of my favourite actors Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner. What a great film.
The world is divided in to two camps: those that think Kevin Costner is one of the greatest actors and those that would prefer to see him buried in the Australian Out Back. I'm of the first group. Open Range is a really well done western. I think the romance display between Costner and Benning is era correct for their stations in life.
Another to catch is "Broken Trailes" with Duvall and Thomas Hayden Church. James Russo plays the heavy in this one as well.
@@johnmoldoch-vj2jk I will certainly look this one up, I have not heard of it, thanks for the recommendation. 😃
@@geraldaird9390 I found it at my local library, and did not regret it.
The fact that Thomas Hayden Church from "Wings" as the addle brained mechanic may put you off but don't fret it, he is from Texas and has invested his money into owning a cattle ranch. Although he got his start as a D.J. and surfed, it was in Texas where he did it. That drawl he speaks with is genuine.
Loura Scacci also has a prominent role in it.
@@johnmoldoch-vj2jk I have found where I can buy it, so tomorrow I should be able to watch it. I am sure I will enjoy it, I have never been disappointed by anything with Robert Duvall in it, even in the Godfather.
"Quigley Down Under" and "Open Range" are two of my favorite movies. Glad to see them mentioned. Several others featured in the video are new to me. I plan to watch those, as well.
Great list, bringing light to a lot great unknown westerns! But I think the one that sits atop them all for most overlooked western is Quigley Down Under. There’s so many iconic scenes, lines, and performances, yet hardly anyone knows of it!
I'm such a big fan of Quigley that it never occurred to me that it might be underappreciated. Great film.
@@brucecsnell Exactly. I tell everyone I can about the movie. I'd say maybe 1 out of every 20 folks I mention it to know what I'm talking about and rave about it. But the other 19 just look at me like I'm an idiot. So if you've seen it, you love it. But if ya ain't seen it, you don't have a clue what you're missing out on!
Quigley Down Under is 3rd on by all time favorite westerns. (1) The Big Country, (2) The Outlaw Jose Wales
Interesting films to try and watch. Hilalgo I really liked. I didn't get into Open Range when I first saw it, but the second time, the characters came to life and I've watched several times.
Hostiles, Open Range and Appaloosa were all fine Westerns that deserve recognition. The others on your list were also worth seeing. I think the classic western that set the tone was Dodge City from 1939. An early color film, it had a great cast, great action, simple good guy vs bad guy story and probably one of the best saloon fights ever...
Thanks for this comment
For my part Open Range and The Missing are in my personal top 10 of Best Westerns that I have ever seen. So I was surprised to learn that they are underrated. I think one that you missed for this list might be Bone Tomahawk starring Kurt Russell.
B T FUCKIN GRUESOME, LOL
Bone Tomahawk: what a great movie!!
Bone Tomahawk was good, if a bit gruesome.
I read the book and then looked for the move. Appaloosa was one of the best of all. Thanks for the list.
95% of the script was lifted straight from the book. Robert H Parker knew how to write dialog.
@@mpetersen6 His name is Robert B. Parker
That was an awsome movie. I didn't even realize it kind of flopped at the box office.
I'm a huge Robert Parker fan and read the book long before they made the movie. Then I couldn't wait for the movie and saw it on opening day. Great writing provides the basis for a great flick.
@@brucecsnell
Great can writing CAN provide agreat script. Once script writers, producers etc get involved anything can get turned into crap.
Lonesome Dove changed my life and still influences many things I have done and the man and friend I try to be
I rewatched it recently. I'd forgotten how good it was.
Hidalgo is my favorite from the list. It has a complex and colorful story starting at the closing of the old west. Performances are spot on. The photography is spectacular. The hidden value of the film is the sound. If you play this film from DVD, be sure to used a powerful surround sound system and set the sound decoding to the highest quality option. Hint: There is a point in the story where a large number of racing horses are lined up on a starting line, the start being signaled by a gun shot. Hold on to your armchair from build up to the starting shot through the next 60 seconds. The visuals and sonics are spectacular.
I was so glad to see "Appaloosa" and "Open Range" on this list. Two of the best westerns ever made, in my opinion.
Glad you think so.
Brando made a movie called The Appaloosa in 1966. A notch below the ones mentioned here. Brando was great in One-Eyed Jacks.
Always loved the western " Bite the Bullet" with Gene Hackman, James Coburn, Ben Johnson and many others. Well worth a watch. Good list.
Yes, I should take another look
Hostiles was too full of anachronisms to be notable. Another film you might have included was The Broken Trail with Robert Duvall and Thomas Hayden Church. That was a fine movie.
Agreed! That film chronicaled the early settling of Chinese immigrants into Wyoming.
Some of the most underrated westerns were made for TNT with Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott.
I need a list of films you’d recommend with them!
Crossfire Trail, Last Stand at Saber River and Monte Walsh are three great TNT westerns. In Pursuit of Honor with Don Johnson and The last Outlaw with Mickey Rourke are two very good Hbo westerns in my opinion.
@@pressman1788 -- I loved In Pursuit of Honor. Now I need to find a copy to watch it again.
@@ComedyBros5 I liked the "Sacketts".
@@pressman1788 Add "Conagher" with Sam Elliot and Katherine Ross to list of great TNT Westerns.
Have seen Quigley Down Under many times and enjoyed it each time.
Another underrated Western from Oz is The Man from Snowy River. Greatest horse ride ever filmed.
Also, Monte Walsh (2003) with Tom Selleck.
Monte Walsh yeee haawww
Absolutely the Man From Snowy River is one of my all time favorites
Nice list. Can't disagree with any of your picks. Open Range and Hombre would be the highlights of your list for me. There's so many early westerns that went underrated that would fill a long list for sure.
gotta try hidalgo,pretty good film
@@alfonsecoppola5938
I agree. Reminds me somewhat of
'Bite The Bullet'...
Hombre is one of my favorites. Well-written and well-acted.
For me it's the spaghetti westerns that I enjoy the most!
"Death Rides A Horse" is very underated in my opinion.
Also there's "The Fastest Gun Alive" and "Ride Beyond Vengence" which has my all-time favorite song in it!
"If it's not a spaghetti, it ain't a western". Thanks!
love the pasta, also Sukiyaki Western Django the noodle western
QUIGLEY QUIGLEY QUIGLEY. I love it❤️ love it❤️ love it❤️ Action, humor, romance, AND made especially good because of Alan Rickman's portral of arrogant cold villain Elliott Marsden.
I would add "Will Penny, Silverado, Tom Horn, Geronimo, and Legends of the Fall" to the list. All great movies that didn't seem to catch the zeitgeist.
When it comes to underappreciated western, Silverado is the top of the list.
Tom Horn was boring af.
Not sure I would classify Legends of the Fall a western. It is one of my all time favorites.
@@stevecontreras1573 I'll add "The Oxbow Incident" and "The man who shot Liberty Valence" too.
Geronimo is one of my all time favourites.
Glad you included Quigley and Open Range, two of my favorites. I second those who recommended Broken Trail. Outstanding two part mini series. I have three you omitted. Lawman, starring Burt Lancaster. Culpepper Cattle Company. And Silverado, with an all star cast including Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, and others.
Thinking about another video on this subject soon. Thanks
Yes! The Culpepper Cattle Co. , also Bad Company with young Jeff Bridges, two great underrated westerns
Agreed!
I don't think ANYONE underrates Silverado...
The Jack Bull and Missouri Breaks are also very underrated films. Would love to see some of these films remastered in Blu Ray or better yet 4K Blu Ray. Great review my friend. Very enjoyable.
Thanks so much
I did see Appoloosa on a plane!
The Proposition is a fantastic movie. Good to see it on this list.
I have seen Hidalgo many, many times. The Hunting Party with Oliver Reed is good. I cried hard at Hombre. Big Country: "How many times does a man have to win you?" Great line! I worked on Silverado in New Mexico. I'm 5' tall female, then 20s. Only one who could drive a standard, floor shift pickup.
Thanks appreciate your comments
How cool! Silverado is one of my favorites, especially since I lived in NM at the time!
What an excellent compilation. Some I've seen and some I soon will! Thanks for this.
One to add - "The Missouri Breaks" with Jack Nicholson, Marlon Brando and Randy Quaid. It was a critical and commercial flop, but I thought it was bloody great, with some very dark humor in it like Jack saying to Marlon near the end - "Know what woke you up?? I just cut your throat!" Or Marlon blasting a guy out of an outhouse using a Creedmor rifle!
Im planning a new underrated video, thanks for input.
It gets 79% on rotten tomatoes and 65 on metacritic.
My favorite western was "The Fastest Gun Alive" with Glenn Ford, Jeanne Crain,Broderick Crawford, John Dehner, Leif Erickson, Noah Beery Jr. & many classic character actors. Great film from 1956.
A good movie although I believe Broderick Crawford was woefully miscast as the primary villian. Dehner would have been more believable although he did shine in the role of the most intelligent of the three villains.
Some one remarked that Crawford looked like Fred Flintstone trying to be a cowboy.
@@donwild50 John Dehner is one of GOATs and most underrated actors EVER.
My all time favorite western that very few people have ever heard of is Duel at Diablo. It should definitely be on this list.
Maybe the next list?
Monte Walsh with Lee Marvin, and The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing with Burt Reynolds. Tom Horn and Junior Bonner are both solid films starring Steve McQueen, largely forgotten these days.
Junior Bonner , Good Call mate
That movie is mentioned in a recent video I posted on Rodeo Westerns, check out the channel. ruclips.net/channel/UCrtQI0rT8Ur4KhMFLlcSrrQ
Lonesome Dove was a miniseries but very well acted. Well recommended if you can sit through 4 parts, each an hour and a half long. Worth DVRing.
I also liked The Man From Snowy River, although it's not a typical western because there isn't any gunfights.
LOL about gunfights:) Maybe I should do a video on Mini Series?
@@famouspeople63
Just saying check it out if you haven't.
LD had some hot babes in it. Nia Peeples and Diane Lane (I just adore her).
1. Quigley Down Under, 2. Shalako, 3. Appaloosa, 4. The Duel, 5. Hostiles, 6. Hidalgo, 7. Open Range, 8. Hombre, 9. The Missing, 10. The Proposition. This is a great list - I've only seen four of these, so now I have a list to go on! Well done - this is your first video & it was enough to convince me to subscribe - I'm looking forward to more!
Bad Company with a young Jeff Bridges ,brilliant
Crossfire Trail with Selleck was a great TV movie
Have not seen all that you listed, but of the ones that I've watched,I agree. Open Range and Quigley are my favs. Thanks.
Excellent list of great movies thank you
What an excellent and often eloquent portrayal of these films. Thanks so much for posting this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow some really good ones I know and have watched. Plus a 2 I did not know about - Thank You
Great list, thanks. Several I haven't seen. I'm going to the DVR to look for them right now.
Great picks. Hombre is an all-timer. Missouri Breaks is a sleeper and Going South
Good list!! Thank you. I had bought Hidalo years ago and Quigley Down Under also. I plan on buying the other westerns in the near future.
Very good list. Apaloosa and Open Range are two of my favorite westerns.
Will Penny- one of my all time favorites. So different and more realistic than many westerns. Great cast and performances by all too.
The western Heston most liked himself in
I have that on my list to watch, haven't gotten to it yet.
I know some of these movies and have enjoyed those so I am looking forward to checki out the others on your list. Thanks .
Awesome list of some great movies. I also think two movies that are highly underrated Westerns are "Duel at Diablo" (1966) and "Tall Tale" (1995). The former is about how a disillusioned and vengeful army scout (James Gardiner), a former sergeant turned horse tamer (Sidney Poitier), an ambitious lieutenant (Bill Travers), a former captive of the Apache (Bibi Andersson), her racist merchant husband (Dennis Weaver), and a small command of green troopers are ambushed and forced into the fight of their lives against a strong Apache war band determined to exact revenge for past grievances. It was quite a poignant movie, with some exceptional acting, though the main theme of the movie does appear to be a product of its time rather than those of classic films like "The Magnificent Seven," "The Dollars Trilogy," "The Wild Bunch," or even "Unforgiven." The other aforementioned film was a Disney production made at the time of its renaissance yet has slipped through the cracks. It is a poignant story of how a young boy must seek the help of American legends Pecos Bill (Patrick Swayze), Paul Bunyon (Oliver Platt), and John Henry (Roger Aaron Brown) against a gunslinging, greedy, businessman (Scott Glenn) and his private army of mercenaries. It was a story that did have two environmental messages, with the one about protecting the land taking center stage, but the other of the importance of community was commonly overlooked by critics and the audience.
I've noted down your comments, food for thought. Thanks
Agree fully with your comments on Duel At Diablo. It has been one of my favourite Westerns since I first saw it, many years ago. Garner and Poitier are superb, good action, great story and I love the music.
Great list. Well edited. well edited copy smoothly delivered. A no nonsense approach very much appreciated. Good work I must say!
Really appreciate the positive feedback
Open Range Broken Trail
open range isn't just a great western it's a great movie. one of my all time favorites. costner was made for westerns
I think he realizes that now :)
Quigley Down Under is one of my favorites.
My father-in-law always talked about Hombre. I finally watched it, and enjoyed it immensely.
God, I still have nightmares about Aaron Eckhart's fate in The Missing.
Listening to you talk about The Proposition reminded me of another Outback movie - The Rover. Definitely watch it.
Yes I know the Rover, pretty dark :)
Hombre should be on the list--it is excellent, many fine performances, especially the villain (Cicero Grimes) and his Mexican sidekick at the end--it was the most realistic gunfight in cinema!
Totally agree with your pics..fortunately I have half of them on DVD...
The Culpepper Cattle Company.
Starts with a cattle drive and a kid that just wants to be a Cowboy. Riding with a rough bunch that eventually takes a liking to the kid and in the end friendship and loyalty prevail in a classic western showdown. This western is a gem.
Great list!!!! Thanks , I'll definitely try the ones I haven't seen. Hostiles...my favourite western ever,,,so far
Thanks for the tips. I wrote down the ones that I haven't seen. A couple pf them flix I already have on my watch list but most are new to me and look interesting
well chosen, well narrated and it also leaves me with some 'westerns' to chase up, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I thought is was s great synopsis of underrated western 🎥 movies, most off which I’ve never heard off, thanks 🙏 for enlightening me to there existence. 👍🏴
The Big Country with Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston, and an all star cast is one of the best “adult” westerns ever made. Outstanding , crisp dialogue, great acting all around especially by Heston and Burl Ives who won an oscar for his role. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance also belongs on this list. John Wayne, James Stewart and Lee Marvin.
I think about Burl Ives in Big Country a lot.
A great movie which is interesting in that Peck was a rabid anti gun guy but didn’t mind making money using them just like Costner, Elliot and Tim Mcgraw
I don't think The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance qualifies as 'underrated.' I seem to remember it as very popular due to the star power of John Wayne, James Stewart and Lee Marvin. Probably why it wasn't on this list.
@C Piper I have to agree about Man who shot liberty valance. Definitely not underrated. It's a John Ford Western so that immediately makes it studied and admired and critically analysed and put in the canon of classic westerns. I studied it in university.
It is probably fair to say Liberty Valance was not underrated. My initial thought was though a hit at the time, not as many younger viewers today are familiar with it.
Good list, I've seen a number of the mentioned titles. Westerns have always been a favorite of mine, happy to have new titles to look for!
Great, hope you like them
Man you've got good taste! The Proposition was gut wrenching, delivering a good visual-slapping. Well done!
Thanks
Thanx for this. A great reawakening for some great westerns !👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Check out " The Long Riders".
I liked Quigley. Alan Rickman, my favorite English actor❤ who could play a great bad guy. Lara San Giancomo (Pretty Woman, the first and best version of The Stand, NCIS) has great chemistry with Tom Selleck's Quigley.
And although I haven't seen all of these I has seen most.
Good list!
Those of us not educated to know all the movies to choose from are grateful for your knowledge and examination of this films. Thank you
Quigley Down Under, Appaloosa, Hidalgo, Open Range, Hombre and the Missing have been viewed and enjoyed. Have to hunt down the others. Thanks.
I have not seen Hostile or the Proposition so I can't comment on these two, but the rest are really good movies. Appaloosa cause me to find and read the books. They are great also. Shalako is based off of a Loius L'Lamour book and I own almost all of his western books. Open Range is one of my favorite modern westerns. Kostner's Wyatt Earp closely portrayed the true story and life of Wyatt Earp. The Missing is another favorite western. Well done video. Thanks for your time and effort.
If you're having trouble sleeping Joel then watch Hostiles.
Conagher is another Louis Lamour adaptation that is worth watching. Starring Sam Elliott.
Old Henry deserves a mention. Excellent western...also, DEADWOOD.
Thrilled that you included Hombre, Open Range, Quigley and Hostiles on this list! All absolutely first rate in their own right. I see I have to pay more attention to Australian "Westerns". I was disappointed that Wes Studi was not mentioned in Hostiles; honestly, he was the only one whose name I could remember starring in it! Thanks.
Thanks for your feedback.
I thought the prairie woman was absolutely striking.
From a big fan of the genre, well thought out list.
Little surprised I didnt hear a shout out for Wes Studi in Hostiles, he is one of the best in those roles.
I'm subscribing, thanks.
Great list of movies! I have seen them all and love everyone!
Thanks so much for watching
Buck and the Preacher, with Sidney Portiere and Harry Belafonte was pretty good as a forgotten western, Ride the Whirlwind with Jack Nicholson, Five Card Stud with Robert Mitchum and Dean Martin and Ride the High Country, a send off for Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea in their last Western which Older men were the hero rather than the young tall in the saddle type.
One Eyed Jacks is one of my favourites. Underated but superb in my opinion. Marlon Brando stars and directs and what a great job he does. Cracking performances from Karl Malden, Katy Jurado and Ben Johnson.
Yes I have a few videos that include this western, take a look in the channel
The Proposition is one of my favorite movies of any genre! The filming and score are great. Dark and dirty. Needed a shower afterwards
Did you not even consider movies made before 1967? Here are my top five *underrated* westerns.
High Plains Drifter (1973) Clint Eastwood
The Oxbow Incident (1943) William Wellman
The Professionals (1966) Richard Brooks
Firecreek (1968) Vincent McEveety
The Tall T (1957) Budd Boetticher
Granted, after 50 years, High Plains Drifter is starting to get some of the attention it deserved long ago. 🤠
"Comes a horseman" a movie released in 1979, my friends and I went and saw it at the theater, a couple times then it just disappeared, growing up around cattle and rodeo in Wyoming we loved the movie but most people have never heard of it, it was also the debut of a young Mark Harmon, although he wasn't in the movie long, it was a bit of a modern western being set in Arizona post WW2, if you haven't seen it, find and watch it,, it was very underrated but worth warching.
Thanks
Yes I'm familiar. I often get reminded of some forgotten gems. It's a deep well to draw from.

Yes I'm familiar. I often get reminded of some forgotten gems. It's a deep well to draw from.
Another excellent list of westerns! These are truly very enjoyable westerns! Hostiles is especially good but sometimes hard to watch due to its realistic content!
A great selection of some of my fav westerns.
Thanks for your comment
The remake of 3:10 to Yuma belongs on the list. While everyone catches the leads (Christian Bale and Russell Crowe) Ben Foster steals the shows as the sadistic side kick.
Definetly under looked is the Western/Horror genre combo; two styles that don't seem like they'd go together but absolutely can. Bone Tomahawk (2015) starring Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, and Matthew Fox seems like the standard rescue the damsel from the savages like The Searchers and The Missing except this particular tribe isn't exactly normal. Ravenous (1999) stars Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle about the appetites that may develop at an outpost in the lonely Sierra Madres. If you include Neo Westerns you've also got Near Dark (1987) about Vampires in modern day West Texas and Vampires (1999) with James Woods about vampire hunters in modern day West Texas and New Mexico.
Will be working on another video on this subject soon.
Nice list. I have some of them and have seen others, but it still gave me several to look up. The only things I can think of to make your list better would be to include the actual list in the comments and to include the year of release for each of the. That would make it a lot easier to find them later. Thanks.
Thanks for the advice
Open range is one of my favorites!
Western with a feel good ending is always the best!
Thanks for sharing
I have seen all of these movies and Open Range, Hostiles, Appaloosa, & Quigley Down Under fall in my top ten along with G,B,&U, True Grit, Unforgiven, Dances w/ Wolves, Wyatt Earp, & Shane
Open range is a great movie ,one of my favourite westerns, with a good guys out numbered by the bad guys plot that will always work.
I've seen all and read those based on books, except the duel and the proposition, l would also add ulzanas raid and Valdez is coming, starring Burt Lancaster, both written by Elmore Leonard.......
Excellent choices here. Thanks
Thanks so much for watching
I know "Big Country" isnt exactly a 'Western' (its a melodrama set in the West) but its a great movie.
Appaloosa, The Duel & The Proposition have been added to the list of movies to see!
I’ve seen all of the rest!
Of those listed, Open Range and Quigley are my favorites!
I wholly endorse your list and there were only two or three that I hadn't seen... which have now jumped to the top of my watch list.
Appreciate the comment.
I have sadly missed seeing all but two of these. But those two (Hombre and Quigley Down Under) were terrific.
I especially enjoyed the quirky interplay between Selleck and Laura San Giacomo in Quigley. To give just one example: Selleck and Laura have been left for dead in the Outback. Selleck has been brutalized but survives and revives Laura. Her first words to Tom:
"Don't worry, on a new job it's quite common for things not to go well at first."
I love that kind of deadpan (droll) humor, and there's lots of it (as well as some very powerful drama) in this classic. Oh, and Alan Rickman plays a quintessential villain!
She was the original Pretty Woman but Julia stole the scenes in rehearsal 😎
@@qanondon2100 Understandable!
Fine listing! Quigley Down Under is one of my most favorite westerns. (on my top 5 list) Hidalgo is another one that I love a lot. I really like most of the others you've mentioned too. Would have loved to see The Culpepper Cattle Co. mentioned . Maybe you should do yet another list?
Thanks for sharing! Let me see if I can work them into a future video.
To me a great western no one talks about is "The Tall T" starring Randolph Scot and Maureen O'Sullivan, 15 plus years after she played Jane in the Tarzan movies. It also stars Richard Boone and Henry Silva as the heavies and everyone in the movie gives great performances.
Thanks I'm going to look more into this one.
She was so pretty, hot, sexy, and lively in "Tarzan" movies. With her red hair dyed black and her freckles on her face covered up with makeup.
Good selections.
Duval in Broken Trail, based on true events. 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe. Rooster Cogburn with Jeff Bridges.
Love laughing at Waterhole #3 and Scalphunters. I also liked One Eyed Jacks. Malden and Brando.
I like your list but add, "Man called Horse', and Jeremiah Johnson.
So many other good ones to list.
Be well
Thanks for the comments
This was an extremely interesting article. I have only seen four of them unfortunately. One in particular, Open Range. Boss Spearman was, I hope, such as Mr. Duval portrays him, how my great uncle was back then after the Civil War. Great actors in all of these movies, all some should have been given a better review for sure. Thank you for putting this together. Be Safe!
Thanks
Great job. I'd add the sisters brothers , and The wind. And the 3:10 to Yuma remake doesn't get enough love .
I would like to know how they filmed the "spiders" scene in The Sisters Bros. Nobody I know has seen it.
I had Appaloosa for years without watching. When i finally watched, i was surprised that it was so good, and yet was never mentioned.
Check my channel, mentioned in several videos

We have quite a few favorites on our list of great western films.
