on my 02 RK I have used a power commander and a Daytona twin-tec 2, the power commander took a shite 3 years and 7 days after install. 7 days out of warranty. the twin-tec is still functioning after 5 years and takes the same download as a power commander. its also cheaper, smaller, lighter. I was told the same person helped develop both, who now owns Daytona twin-tec. my bike runs so much better and is user friendly for tuning & adjustments. thanks whoever you are for making a great usable product.
Good story...but....here's the truth. The TT product line was developed as a combined effort between a fella named Chris Schroeder and myself in the early 2000s up until about 3 years ago. The previous owner of Twin Tec, Allen Alvarez, is still in the industry at 80yrs old and going strong. Hector Melendez was also with Crane back in the day with Allen and Chris and fathered many of the Crane parts. He and Allen basically brought Accel into the motorcycle industry too. Chris was the programmer and software engineer...I did all the product testing and development. Chris passed away a few years ago....a great mind for sure. He was also the fella that designed the Crane ign systems way back in the day. Ol Chris sure could be an a&(*^hole, but I miss him. He was a good fella.
Hi Kevin, hopefully this question reaches you shortly! I just had my carbureted , dual plug S&S shovelhead stroker engine rebuilt. When I picked up the engine the mechanic strongly insisted I replace my CRANE Fireball Hi-4E ignition module with one of the Twin Tec ignitions that goes inside the cone. Are you able to tell me your thought on which of these ignition systems will give me the best performance and longevity for my motor? Which would you suggest I use and do you know how much re-wiring would be required to replace the external ignition I have with one for the cone? Thank you, I hope to hear back soon. - Angel
Personally, I would keep the ignition external, use a twintec 1006 or 1007 depending on your existing harness, and wire it up single fire. I can get you a complete kit that has harness, coil, wires, pickup etc. That combo has been my go to for almost 20 years...never failed me.
Hey Kevin, hoping maybe you can shed some insight. I have a 98 sportster 1200 I've done the hammer performance big bore kit and dyna twin tec ignition mikuni HSr42 and Big air cleaner from LA choppers. Trying to verify if my VOE switch is operating correctly. The light flickers and goes off from 1/8 to 1/4 and up throttle, the bike hesitates and Then wakes up. Sounds mean but I get lean pops. I know the needle controls 1/8th- 1/4 throttle. I was thinking of going richer there, but does the VOES light go off on the twin tec, or is my switch failing? Also should I add more fuel to the mid and main circuits in the carb to prevent detention on a 1250 big bore?
The VOES is normally open. At low manifold pressure (or manifold vacuum greater than about 5 inch-Hg), the VOES grounds the purple/white wire and causes the Twin Tec module to generate additional timing advance. The green VOES LED illuminates whenever the VOES input is active (timing advanced). The wide-open throttle (WOT) curves are active unless the VOES input is grounded. During idle and cruise, the VOES input is grounded (green VOES LED illuminated) and the low manifold pressure (MAP) curves are active. In other words, if the light is on at idle and cruise, but goes out higher or under load, sounds like the ign is working. VOES should be too. Need to tune afr it sounds like to me.
no more in the cone electronic ignition's for me, they just fry in the cone and you have t replace them approximately every year or so especially if you have straight pipes I put mine under the seat on my 79 shovel where it stays cool, in the cone is just another mechanic trick to get money more often from customers the way I see it just like all the other little tricks by Harley Davidson they build them and use parts they plan to ware out way to soon, Harley is going down hill in my opinion because of it.
I have no idea why im just now receiving a notification for this message from 2 years ago. Im sure youve already gotten an answer, but, Single fire. Always run single fire...far better.

I installed a power commander 3 on my 2007 night train that i bought new. It is still running well 13 years later.
Sorry for your loss
Thanks Kevin! Keep up the helpful videos

Hey Kevin does the 1009 - TC88A Ignition - Race, have the multi spark feature also? Installing on a 2004 sportster.
Thanks for another informative video, as always. Got a question. Why did Harley use single fire just on the Twin cam engines?
Youre welcome. It comes down to cost and simplification. Dual fire requires less wiring and a single coil.
So on a dual fire will the timing of fire on one cylinder be more advanced than the other cylinder on its power stroke since they’re not 360 degrees
Thanks for the information ☺️!
can i use the rpm setting as a two step?
Clear!

@@KevinBaxter Thanks for taking the time to respond. Sometimes you need some validation so you're not making things worse than they are in your mind.

i just got a ultima single or dual fire electronic ignition kit for my shovelhead should i run single fire or dual fire for a shovelhead
