A very glowing reaction 🌟! Patti LaBelle, even at 79 years of age, did what she always does- steal the show lol. I see 👁👁you have reacted to Patti LaBelle before: Lady Marmalade, On My Own, Somebody Loves You Baby, New Attitude and All The Man I Need. This Mariah Carey tribute was from the 2023 "TheGrio Awards" on November 25th. Mariah Carey was honored with the Music Icon Award. Jennifer Hudson, Coco Jones, Boyz II Men, and Mariah Carey’s godmother- Patti LaBelle, were called on to perform. Jennifer Hudson sang Mariah Carey’s debut single: “Vision Of Love,” while Patti LaBelle serenaded her baby with the 1990 ballad: “Love Takes Time”. Later, Coco Jones and Boyz II Men sang the historic chart-topping classic: “One Sweet Day”.
Love Takes Time was released as the second single from Mariah Carey's 1990 debut album: Mariah Carey. It was written by Mariah Carey and Ben Margulies. It was produced by Walter Afanasieff. The song reached #1 on the Hot 100, #1 on the R&B chart, #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart and peaked at #1 in Canada as well. The music video was directed by Jeb Brien and Walter Maser and was filmed at Venice Beach in Los Angeles, California.
    Lyrics 🗒:
I had it all, but I let it slip away
Couldn't see I treated you wrong
Now I wander around, feeling down and cold
Trying to believe that you're gone
    Love takes time
To heal when you're hurting so much
Couldn't see that I was blind
    To let you go
I can't escape the pain inside
    'Cause love takes time
    I don't wanna be here
    I don't wanna be here alone (Ooh-ooh)
Losing my mind from this hollow in my heart
    Suddenly, I'm so incomplete
    Lord, I'm needing you now
Tell me how to stop the rain
Tears are falling down endlessly (Oh-oh)
    Love takes time
To heal when you're hurting so much
Couldn't see that I was blind
    To let you go
I can't escape the pain inside
    'Cause love takes time
And I don't wanna be here
I don't wanna be here, alone
You might say that it's over
You might say that you don't care
You might say you don't miss me
    You don't need me
But I know that you do
And I feel that you do, inside (Oh, oh)
    Love takes time
To heal when you're hurting so much
Couldn't see that I, I was so blind
    To let you go
I can't escape the pain inside
    'Cause love takes time
    I don't wanna be there
I don't wanna be there, alone

    Miscellaneous Info 🗃:
Around 1964 Patti LaBelle was engaged to Otis Williams, founding member of The Temptations. The engagement lasted a year before Patti LaBelle broke it off after fearing that Otis Williams would force her to move to Detroit and retire from performing on the road.
Members of Patti LaBelle's immediate family have passed away at young ages. Her mother Bertha passed away in October 1978 from diabetes at the age of 62. Her father, Henry Holte Jr, passed away of complications from emphysema and Alzheimer's disease in October 1989 at the age of 70. All three of LaBelle's sisters passed away young. Eldest sister Vivian Hogan Rogers passed away of lung cancer in October 1975 at the age of 43. Seven years later, in October 1982, her elder sister Barbara Holte Purifoy passed away from complications of colon cancer at the age of 40.
In July 1989, three months before her father's passing, Patti LaBelle lost her youngest sister, Jacqueline "Jackie" Holte-Padgett, to brain cancer at the age of 43. A day after the singer buried Jacqueline Padgett, an emotionally-wrecked Patti LaBelle shot the music video to her song: "If You Asked Me To", where she was seen crying in various shots; the video was shot on what would've been Jacqueline Padgett's 44th birthday. The singer dedicated her 1991 album: Burnin', and her famous rendition of the song: "Wind Beneath My Wings", during her concert tour in 1991-92 to Jacqueline "Jackie" Holte-Padgett.
Patti LaBelle said because of her sisters and parents passing away "before their time", she wrote in her autobiography that she feared she wouldn't make it to 50. Once she reached that age, however, the singer said she felt her life "had just begun". A year later, Patti LaBelle was diagnosed as having diabetes and later became a spokesperson for several organizations dedicated in fighting the disease. Patti LaBelle also wrote in her autobiography that she was sexually assaulted by Jackie Wilson while at the Brevoort Theatre at Brooklyn in the 1960s.

    Mariah Carey Info 📰:
Mariah Carey was born on on March 27, 1969 in Huntington, New York. She is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. Referred to as the "Songbird Supreme" by Guinness World Records, she is noted for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic singing style, improvisation skills, her signature use of the whistle register, and songwriting. She is famous for the enduring popularity of her holiday music, particularly the 1994 song "All I Want For Christmas Is You", and she has been dubbed as the "Queen of Christmas". She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 200 million records sold worldwide.
Mariah Carey has said that from childhood she has been influenced by Billie Holiday, Minnie Riperton, Sarah Vaughan as well as R&B and soul musicians including Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight and Aretha Franklin. Also, she names Whitney Houston and Celine Dion as big influences on her singing. Her music contains strong influences of gospel music, and she credits the Clark Sisters, Shirley Caesar and Edwin Hawkins as the most influential in her early years.
During her years in elementary school, she excelled in the arts, such as music and literature. She began writing poetry and lyrics while attending Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, New York, where she graduated in 1987. Mariah Carey began vocal training under the tutelage of her mother. Though she was a classically trained opera singer, Patricia Carey never pressured her daughter to pursue a career in classical opera. Mariah Carey recalled that she had "never been a pushy mom. She never said, 'Give it more of an operatic feel.' I respect opera like crazy, but it didn't influence me."
In high school, Mariah Carey was often absent because of her work as a demo singer. This led to her classmates giving her the nickname Mirage. Working in the Long Island music scene gave her opportunities to work with musicians such as Gavin Christopher and Ben Margulies, with whom she co-wrote material for her demo tape. After moving to New York City, she worked part-time jobs to pay the rent and completed 500 hours of beauty school. she moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Manhattan with four female students as roommates. She landed a gig singing backup for freestyle singer Brenda K Starr.
In December 1988, Carey accompanied Brenda K Starr to a music executive's party, where she handed her demo tape to the head of Columbia Records, Tommy Mottola. Tommy Mottola signed Mariah Carey to Columbia Records and enlisted producers Ric Wake, Narada Michael Walden and Rhett Lawrence for her first album. On June 5, 1990, Carey made her first public appearance at the 1990 NBA Finals, singing "America The Beautiful". The highlight was the piercing whistle note toward the song's conclusion, sparking CBS Sports anchor Pat O'Brien to declare, "The palace now has a queen."
Mariah Carey's self-titled debut album was released under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola in 1990, and the two married in 1993. She gained further worldwide success with the albums Music Box (1993) and Daydream (1995). Their singles include "Hero", "Without You", "Fantasy", "Always Be My Baby" and "One Sweet Day", which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 decade-end chart (1990s) and was the longest running number one song of the decade. After separating from Tommy Mottola, Carey adopted a new urban image and incorporated more elements of hip hop with the album Butterfly (1997). She left Columbia Records in 2001 after eleven consecutive years of US number-one singles and signed a $100 million record deal with Virgin Records.
Following Mariah Carey's highly publicized physical and emotional breakdown and the failure of the film Glitter (2001) and its soundtrack, Virgin bought out her contract and she signed with Island Records the following year. After a comparatively unsuccessful period, Carey returned to the top of the charts with The Emancipation Of Mimi (2005), which became the best-selling album in the US and the world's second best-selling album of 2005. Its second single, "We Belong Together", topped the US Billboard Hot 100 decade-end chart (2000s). Billboard named it the "song of the decade" and is the fifteenth most popular song of all time.
Mariah Carey won the Breakthrough Actress Performance award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for her role in the 2009 film: Precious. Her subsequent ventures included being an American Idol judge, starring in the docu-series Mariah's World, appearing in the films The Butler (2013), A Christmas Melody (2015), and The Lego Batman Movie (2017), performing at two Las Vegas concert residencies and publishing her memoir: The Meaning Of Mariah Carey in 2020.
Mariah Carey still performs her music live on stage in 2024.
