She probably didn't say anything about her extensions because there is a stigma in the loc community about starting with extensions. I started my loc journey with extensions and I've loved every step of the journey! Its still a journey regardless of how you start it.

I agree! I started mine with extensions as well. My starter locs went through every phase 💯

@@keita4040I’m considering adding strands of hair to my locks in my crown because it’s thinning. I’ve been locked over 5 years. Not sure it’s feasible or doable. I’m trying to think it through. I want to fill in my crown area. Thoughts.?

@@plumercrs1386 Hey! Listen everything is possible ❤️I know I had to do a consultation with a loctician in my area before she did the work. She was awesome and very experienced. So I don’t recommend you doing on your own. Research one in your area.

New subscriber here. I would definitely charge extra. As far as loc extensions everyone is different. I personally am embracing the journey and loving it. My sisterlocks were established on 5/28/24. I am also documenting my journey and loving it. I am also starting the Sisterlocks consulting class September 16th and looking forward to becoming a consultant. I enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing. Peace!

I really don't understand why some get upset that people get loc extensions. Some are done so well that you literally can't tell unless you feel the texture difference...like you did with those beautiful locs. For some, locs are just a hairstyle. For others, it's a journey. I skipped the baby loc/ teenage phase by using a crochet method I saw this African dude use. It pulled my loose hairs into the loc and drastically reduced frizz. Did I go with the process? Nope. But I still love my locs. I have not used anyone to do my hair because I don't need the "judgment." I retie or crochet when I want to. I established my mom's locs by crochet method, and she washed them very soon after without an issue. So, to add hair or crochet your own hair skips the process, but it is okay. To each his own. BTW your locs are beautiful.

your locks are beautiful and full in the crown. I’m so discouraged because my locks are thin in the crown area and now I’m noticing the back and sides aren’t as full as they once were. I’ve been locked 5 years. I’m thinking some of my locks need to be combined, but I don’t know. Thinking it through. Yes, I’d say charge a traveling fee on top of your regular fee.

You’re absolutely right! It do seems like you’ll be missing the beauty of the growth process! I also feel like the extension will be too much weight on the locks..

Extension is a personal decision…yes charge her extra for coming to her! Charge the going rate for reties…Dnt sell yourself short….inflation is real so your business prices should reflect that as well….its business

I want to start by saying your locs are pretty. Now, I am a loctician and I do all types of locs. I was a beautician for 30 years and loctician 14 of them years and still counting, I feel like it is a personal preference on how people want start their locs. There is no one size fit all, some people want to start theirs with extensions because the awkward phase or the short look don’t fit everyone and some want to start with their own hair and that’s fine. I think all locs are beautiful when did right, extensions or not , everyone’s journey is different. I don’t judge anyone’s journey .And yes if I have to travel, I charge a traveling fee

    1. Your client should not add hair. In my opinion, she is not embracing the process to see what hair will do on its own. I can understand if she had a condition where she had too.
    2. You should charge extra if you going to them so let her know if you come to her it will be more expensive. Also, she was the one who was late anyway, and she should be charged for the entire appointment unless an extreme emergency came up

Your Sisterlocs are gorgeous I love ❤️ the red color fullness and healthiness. Your client has microlocs with extensions not Sisterlocs. I was told that Sisterlocitians do not add extensions due to the small loc size and it’s against the bylaws to install extensions. She better hope her locs don’t fall out from the extensions weight. If you are traveling to perform your Retie services then yes charge the client travel fees. Good luck.

Thank you for your comment but she does have Sisterlocks , however she must have went to another type of loc consultant who added those extensions. And to be honest is it me or do the Sisterlock community have too many rules and regulations 🤣😂

A travel fee is more than appropriate. You have to consider your travel time. The extension should have been disclosed to you as well so you could consider the history of her hair. I say trust the process but it is a personal choice. It was good to see you again.

  • @ChrissyAnn85

If she’s always late I would just drop her as a client 😂😂😂. I’m sorry but she’s cutting into your time and your other clients time. Yes, you need to charge a travel fee. Gas ain’t cheap. As for the extensions I’m personally not a fan. I remember when I first considered getting micro locs I wanted extensions for the esthetics. But I’m glad I didn’t do it. Adding extensions doesn’t allow you to see the actual process of locking. Some of my loc ends closed and others didn’t. Some may never close.

@@hinkletammyI wouldn’t drop her without a warning. Let her know if she wants to continue with you that she will need to be on time. Life happens sometimes and we get behind, but it shouldn’t be a consistent practice to be late. Or you can tell her you can’t service her that day and reschedule her.

    Your locs are Beautiful 🤎
Now that I got that out the way 😂. I've been on my microlocs journey for 3yrs and when I initially considered my loc journey I considered extensions because I was researching a particular microlocs technique. However when I started I opted not to go the extension route as we started with two-strand twists and I'm happy I did. My microlocs journey has been more than just about my locs its been a growth journey in many levels and to see my hair transform at each stage...Beautiful!
Now I don't do hair but if my loctician would come to me and do my hair in my home I'd have no problem with an upcharge because now she's a traveling loctician in my opinion.
