@@burkezillar it was estimated on how many hours the engineers at Lotus expent on the car and how much would cost in hours as what they bill costumers.. they probably didnt billed nearly that much to the BBC as it was more like an advertisement.. even in the show they dont say "we paid 100K" but "you know how much it would cost you for Lotus to do this? 100K! so you are very greatfull to this guys". If you do it yourself or even in a local garage it would be much cheaper depending on how deep you wanna get (replacing the engine powertrain and suspension, tuning of the engine and then maybe weld-reinforce the body)
@@sparrowlt it might be cheaper somehow but it takes more time and help from others you might end up neglect it or take it to workshop to be worked on by professionals.
owner sold it a year later (2003) to a Lotus fan in germany.. the german guy who owned had it on sell in 2010 and he had expent another 20000€ on it improving it even more .. dont know after that
@@sparrowlt Today I saw it. It is in a parking garage at Motorworld München. It doesnt look like it gets to drive often. It still has the license plates like in the video
Probably ...this car its basically a russian Fiat 124..the 124 had 1.8 and 2.0L twin cam engines with plenty of upgrades avalaible (in racing tunes they could easily go over 200hp naturally aspirated so this wasnt even the hardest tune they could do) .. so it probably was easy to get a 1.8 or 2.0 fiat engine wich would fit in the car without much modification and tune it
P.I Staker So the fact that it was stripped and rebuilt at Hethel by Lotus Motorsport means nothing? They tuned the suspension, retrimmed the interior and lots more. Yes the engine was a Guy-Croft tuned Fiat twin cam, but that was only a part of it. Still, judging by the name you’re using I’d guess you were just fishing for a bite and not worried about small matters like facts.
I remember this car very well watched Top Gear when this was built and i was lucky enough to meet the guys that purchased the car here in the UK.
I hope this absolute marvel of Lotus/Communist engineering is still running in 2022. It's seriously such a beautiful car.
better than any german car :D
Italiya,FIAT 124
Звучит как политический расизм. Эта машина называется Лада, а не коммунистическая инженерия.
The best comlete by Lotus.

THAT FIAT 124 1.600/2000 TWIN CAM ENGINE WITH WEBERS SOUNDS THE BUSINESS GOOD CHEAP CAR TO MANUFACTURE IF YOU CAN FIND THE FIAT/LANCIA ENGINE
how much would it cost to do up a ladder like this one??
about £100,000. watch the documentary on it and Clarkson divulged it
@@juandef4115 I've absolutely no idea where they came up with that figure.
@@burkezillar 1000 hours of Lotus Engineers time, all in, would count for most of that expenditure.

Fiat twin cam, as fitted to the 124 special T.
its afake look at the valvecovers they should be red
Watch one more time it should be silver, its original
I can guarantee its the same car, I owned it! 🤣
The only thing "lotus" on it are the badges. That is a Fiat /Lancia engine.
