What a treasure. Literally the best knife review. Especially with the hardness test. I never saw anyone who review the knife this far. That actually way more helpful than those cutting / abuse tests. Also about the grip position parts. Thank you so much.
The dragonfly was a knife that I *really* didn’t bond with at first. Then I lived with it a bit...then I “discovered” its ergonomics (sounds weird but that’s the only way I can describe it) and now it’s one of my favorite models. It’s a different type of ergonomic than something like the Shaman. My Shamans are very hand-filling, rounded and substantial....which makes sense, they’re huge. But the dragonfly has a very “blade oriented” ergo. It’s very tool-like and it begs to be worked with. I’ve bonded with my vg10 enough that I’m gonna get a k390 and do it up with some micarta scales. The best thing about them is their nonexistence in your pocket. They’re SUPER comfortable to carry...
In my opinion the Dragonfly II is the best lightweight EDC out there. This knife has been in my carry rotation 10 plus years. It's nothing fancy just a great small knife that out performs it's size.
Love my DF2! It's a daily driver, for me. Light, good to use in hand, and a great cutting blade, for it's size. I deleted my wire clip, added a thin lanyard, and now...it's perfect, for how I use!
Good review, man - I appreciated the Rockwell test, and hearing the opinion of someone who's lived with the knife for a while rather than doing a video after just a few days of carry. I love little slicers for edc, and the ergos look great on the DF2 (hopefully I can find one in a knife store somewhere and handle it). I appreciate the down to earth, honest review, and suspect the robotic beep music still playing in my head will eventually stop. Thanks again, man.
@@zachmcmahan8481 It was only a temporary madness, but I appreciate the concern, man. I'm probably gonna order a Civivi Odium instead of the DF 2, and am hoping a new pocket knife will help me through the memories of the robotic beeping period of my life, painful though they are.
Have carried a Dragonfly 2 for years. Last year I replaced it with a DF2 K390 Wharncliffe. Wonderful knife, great metal. Recently I thought I’d try something different. 1) I bought a Lil Native. I really like the compression lock-it’s more fidgetable than the DF2. But the DF2 disappears in my 5th pocket. The Lil Native doesn’t. In the end, back to the DF2. 2) I just bought a Civivi Baby Banter. Also a Wharncliffe. It has micarta scales, which I like better than FRN. I’ve carried it a few times, and it’s fine. As a liner lock, it’s easier to close one-handed, but it isn’t as smooth going into or out of the 5th pocket. If I’d never handled a DF2, I’d be ecstatic. Back to the DF2.
great review. i own quite a few Sypderco knives & i keep coming back to this one. i think that's b/c it is just so incredibly small and lightweight that i barely know it's there and when i need to deploy it - it's an absolute pleasure to handle, use, and close. probably my new fave as a lightweight, everyday EDC for light day to day tasks. the action is fabulous.
Just got one in K390, it makes my Para 3 feel like a giant kitchen chef knife and my PM2 feel like a damn broad-sword......so light and thin, just disappears in the pocket, yet the ergos are amazing and loving the blade shape and stock......should have bought one years ago, what an amazing little knife. I would do very bad things for a Dragonfly 2, with M4, 90V or 110V, G-10 scales, open back, deep carry, and a compression lock.....
Thanks for this great overview. Your videos are of amazing quality and look so professional. I appreciate your sincere summary and final recommendations. I have a FFG orange VG10 and yellow serrated H1 dragonfly coming to try out. Good luck with your channel and take care!
thank you so much! I finally pulled the trigger on this one i'll justify the cost of my tiny knife as a tool i would be using for years and years, why does it when someone buys $100-200 Jordans nobody bats an eye? those things disposable
Hey, Just picked up the Spyderco Dragonfly 2 in K390. BNIB from the original owner $79.00. Looking forward to using it. The knife should be easier to sharpen when removed from the handle. (TSPROF clamp sharpener) Thanks for the video.
Really solid review! I actually just put an order in for a navy FRN and damascus exclusive that KnifeJoy has at the moment. I can't wait for it to arrive.
@@Dudeee_ I absolutely love it. The damascus is gorgeous and it came with the best factory edge on any knife I've ever purchased. Honestly, my only gripe is that I hate that Spyderco still stamps the blade with their logo. Damascus deserves a clean blade so you can really appreciate it in my opinion.
From the adage “Jack of all trades master of none, though often times better than the master of one.” The DF2 is often times the favorite EDC in my Spyderco rotation because it’s capable, easy to carry, and for my medium sized hands comfortable. (Good ergos.) Also rotate the Chaparral, Delica, Native, Sage, and UKPK. But use the DF2 the most in black FRN, VG-10. Awesome.
What impressed me most about my Dragonfly 2 Wharncliffe in K390 is that it came at 0.011" (0.29 mm) thickness behind the edge. My only knife with a slicier grind is an Opinel 'garden' knife.
Good review! I just got mine today and I purchased an all-stainless version, very classy. I think the Dragonfly I got is a good gentleman carry. Certainly, more than my Manix.
Good review! It makes me want one in K390. I did get a Dragonfly in CPM 20CV. It has red and black ladybug looking scales. I got it for my daughter but she had trouble with the back lock right off the bat. To be fair, she is young and very tiny for her age. I got her a tiny Swiss Army knife and a little pink Opinel which are both easier for her to operate. It is a great slicey knife. I’m want to carry it but I’ll try to save it for her. I do also have Squeek which I have carried when I needed a smaller knife. I like the ergonomics and the blade. It’s in Elmax. The blade is a taller flat grind with thicker stock than the Dragonfly but I think they both slice equally well. I wanted a UKPK in M390 for a while but couldn’t find it in the blade shape I wanted. I have heard other good things about the Lil Native. I will skip to your video and check it out.
My daily carry for past year. Great knife, but vg10 is only so-so. This and a 14 inch machete do anything a knife needs to do in my garden. Chucked the clip day one, it rides just fine in my back pocket where it doesn't conflict with keys and coins.
Very nice review. Just subscribed and I have been going back and forth between the Dragonfly and the Delica. I didn't realize there was that big of a size difference, but both are nice. Looks like I can't go wrong with either choice. Thanks...
I’ve been carrying one daily for about four years. The only places I don’t carry it are places where it’ll be confiscated, like courts and airports. My favorite is a K390 with a Wharncliffe blade.
Love the dragonfly. Honestly was my first spyderco but after trial and error I found the manbug was just a bit better of a better edc blade. Tbh the dragonfly was just a bit too thin behind the blade for me. I don’t like when a knife has a blade that can be bent with minimal pressure

Nicest small Spyderco? Chaparral Birds Eye Maple. Dragonfly 2 is a great looking knife. I have long wished for a Dragonfly 2 XL as it is a little too small for me.
Which Spyderco knife would fit under a budget, lightweight, small, around 3in blade 3-3.5in handle? I'm looking for a knife that can be easily concealed and would be pulled out for self defense.

I bought two Spyderco Dragonfly-2 knives in VG10 and one hasn’t been out of its box because the other one is indestructible and having too much fun being a knife.
This knife is cool, but after about a year of having it, the locking mechanism seems to be so worn I can easily close the knife as if it was a slipjoint. Also, the screws come without Loctite and will loosen by themselves. The action of the knife gets very coarse with the slightest bit of dirt if you don't oil it. Cool knife, not worth the $70 I paid, besides the point that it's not Chinese made. I haven't abused this knife in the slightest. Very compact and comfortable to carry though.
