You’re right. It will be a little annoying for the next owners to remove. And you could have used long hex bolts and cut off the heads once installed. That works. The only issue is that it’s much harder to level it perfectly. By using the method I did in this video I was able fine tune it to level once I mounted the shelf. Gave me a little wiggle room.

instead of gluing you could've screwed them into the studs....
