    Hello Kirby, in this video you use the mirror gloss polish on cordovan, but in the FAQ of the product it is stated:
    "You are unable to use the mirror gloss on Shell Cordovan due to the turpentine in the polish.
    - Hanger Project @/22/2018"
    Could you explain the discrepancy? Is Mirror Gloss safe for cordovan?
    A clarification would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for the great vids!

    Kirby, love your blog and your project. I’m sure you’re familiar with Venitan cream I find it is the single best first layer for Cordovan. You can then follow up with the high shine Safir, but you cannot beat THE product that is recommended by the manufacturer of the Horse🐎

    I own and wear dress shoes and loafers, and I wear cowboy boots. This may be a really dumb question, but could you enlighten me on when exactly the well-dressed gentleman wears a pair of boots like these? I am intrigued, but am at a loss for where exactly they would fit into my wardrobe. Would I wear them when weather considerations (rain, snow, cold) dictate these as being a practical alternative to wear with a suit or jacket/dress trousers to work? Or are they always for casual wear?

    Hi Kirby, I have a question. Should I use for cordovan leather shoes treated with solvent free cream polish an extra brush to buff them or can I use the brush which I use for all other shoes of similar color which are treated with ordinary cream polish? Thanks for you answer and for your great videos! Greetings from Germany.

    • @lancelan1079
      @lancelan1079 6 лет назад +1

      Adam Clark Well, I hope you don't mind if I answer this. I am afraid you need to keep your shell cordavan away from water. Cordavan immediately blister when they touch a single drop of water.

      Adam, you might want to look more into this but from my understanding you can wear your shell cordovan under the rain. I’ve seen a couple of videos and their users discussing how they’re the only shoes they will wear under the rain due to them having a “tight pore” and preventing your feet from getting wet unlike calfskin leather shoes where the rain penetrates the “open pores” and gets your feet wet.

    Shell should never be mirror shined. Frankly, polish should be avoided entirely. Stick to neutral neatsfoot oil to prevent drying, and that's about it. Can't speak to the effectiveness of the deer bone (I'm not nearly that fancy), but the polish (wax or otherwise) tarnishes the otherwise very unique natural glossy sheen of the shell, and makes it roughly indistinguishable from calfskin. If you prefer the mirror shine, stick to calf. It's cheaper anyways. Shell serves a more "classy casual" purpose than more traditional calfskin, so mirror shining it kind of defeats the purpose. That's not to say you can't wear shell with a suit or anything like that, but there's a reason why the preferred style of shell shoes amongst the enthusiasts are plain toe bluchers, long wing bluchers, and boots.
