Having a well polished sore just adds to the elegance! I polish my shoes before use!! Selling upscale suits and a polished shoe makes the look complete for me. Thanks for the videos!!
In college I was in Corp of Cadets. We used the creme polish and hard wax with water as spit shine. Some used a flame to help the polish penetrate the leather to form the mirror shine. I see Kirby applying polish with dress shirt, tie and suit. I hold my breath hoping he doesn't slip and touch his clothes. Well done.
I remember using a handkerchief that’d been covered in shaving cream for days to shine my parade shoes when I was in military school. Some guys would cheat and use Mop & Glow on theirs but you could always tell because it didn’t melt in the hot sun.
Really appreciate you reminding us of solid, no secrets, basics, Kirby! Did two pairs already because of the time you took to show everyone again the foundation of a good shoe shine.
First off, your videos and walkthroughs are so much more detailed and succinct than others out there. I've searched exhaustively for this particular breakdown. I love how you're using the three different Saphir Mirror Gloss Waxes. I have tried using the Neutral to no avail and actually seemed to discolor (stain) areas on one shoe around the medallion. Frustrated I almost binned my new pair of C&Js. However, watching your walkthrough on using dark brown and brown coupled with neutral has influenced me to give it another go. Brilliant outcome on the tip. Love the uniformity of darker contrast. This is exactly what I'm looking to do to save mine. Cheers again, sir.
Thank you so much for these videos, Kirby, they are so helpful, even for women!!! I ordered these products from your site to try on my own shoes! I’m a woman who got tired of terrible quality women’s footwear and have purchased a couple pairs of Carmina shoes, and wanted to know how to give them a mirror shine but had no clue where to start. This guide helped teach me exactly what to buy and how to apply; thank you!!!
Another great instructional video thanks Kirby! Small thing: I noticed you aren't too worried about the patchy colour of the toe cap - there seems to be a dark reddish patch on the top, and lighter at the very tip. Not important?
I think if it looks too even then you loose the antique effect and it looks like it is dyed a different color. I personally like the patchy look but its personal taste
Hey Mr. Kirby, I really love watching you taking care of your shoes, would you mind uploading everytime you take care each of your shoes? Whether it's complete mirror shine or routine care or even a quick care/emergency for instance when we have an event to attend the same night and we just realized our shoes look awful. I think people would love it as well. It would be nice if you show each of your shoes (and loads of shoe care walkthrough for each) as they might be different both in material and also colours. Thanks in advance!
Beautiful shoes!!!! Personally I would not mirror shine the cap toe as they are already quite casual (color, brogues) but that’s only my taste. Maybe this price class deserves always a mirror shine…… great video again
I LOVE saphir products! The pily leather cream revived my bison leather wallet with a dublin interior. It went from almost cracked to good as new! If the renovatoure isn't doing it, the pily leather cream comes in handy!
Great videos! I have been able to get a mirror finish with your help! However sometimes I see micro scratches. The surface feels super smooth and I cannot feel them, but I can see really small scratches. How do I get rid of these? Adding more layers of wax doesn’t seem to help. Even mirror gloss.
I'm maintaining a mirror shine on a female RAF cadet shoe. The dress requirements are that the whole shoe be mirror shined which means the flexing parts always need attention after every wear. Any advice on how often to strip back to the bare leather with the Reno'mat as opposed to trying to keep the shine going? Great videos BTW.
I notice your beautiful shoes have a little bit of red in the burnishing. Would you ever consider adding a little Hermes Red cream polish to the toe and heel to accentuate that if you started to lose that red hue over time applying layers of brown waxes and creams?
I never had done this, but if you are worried about stress on the eyelet cut the lace at each pass over and under to reduce the tension needed to remove the old lace. It is going in the trash anyways.
It easily takes around 15 minutes to do a mirror shine on my shoes I don't use saphir so the mirror gloss isn't that much but ya it worth it around 40 minutes for both the shoe but if you are going to an interview black tie event or white tie its a must
Maybe a weird question. I dont make tons of money, but i was wondering are there like places that you can buy like older used nice shoes that probably just needs some tlc and maybe a new sole for cheaper?
Kirby, I am a professional that often needs to go to a Production floor. For this I require to wear steel toe shoes. Right now I use a pair of steel toe Florsheims. They are OK but they look a bit on the low-end. Are there any high-end steel toe brands you know or recommend so I can look my best while also be protected from the risks of a factory assembly line?
I stand corrected. Just looked at both online and it appears neither the 1000 Mile or the Iron Ranger have a steel toe option. May need to go to Nick's or White's and something more custom.
Is there a practical reason why the heel counter has a backseam? Bespoke should be the epitome of quality right? So how come some manufacturers like Enzo Bonafé do a heel counter without a seam while this pair of bespoke shoes need a seam?
All of the fancy stuff isn't needed. Special chamois? An old t-shirt works perfectly. I had to spit shine entire boots, not just the toes, with Kiwi and a t-shirt. Anyone from the black boot days of the military can do it.
that's what i was thinking. a $225 leather mat? saying a fancy chamois is a "must-have"? not to knock the trade of course, but this guy is definitely a salesman. i wish him luck, though.
I believe I speak for all your viewers (I am proudly one of them) when I suggest it is certainly de rigueur to conduct certain activities with the appropriate attire, e.g., not shaving in a tie & shirt and polishing your shoes in a suit & tie.
The cap toes were not treated properly. Because there was cracking and flaking, a renomat or other wax stripper should have been used before anything else. Ignoring that, Kirby's method is perfect for most shoe maintenance routines.
Kirby I’ve noticed you drag your heels when you walk. Why don’t you have your cobbler install some rubber taps on the edge of your heels? Any reason you don’t? I know that it’ll ruin the silhouette of those beautiful shoes… but your heels will last longer!
I always wear a pinstripe suit when I shine my shoes. For some dress shoes I wear black tie! Nothing protects you from staining your shirt like a 200$ necktie.
Many RUclipsr's say to use Saphir products, yeh OK, big but! Not ever one can afford Sahpire products, however, Kiwi shoe polish is way cheaper (NOT Quality) I know Kiwi is not the best quality either! SO therefore can anyone bring a pair of Black Capped Oxford shoes using ONLY Kiwi standard shoe polish! Please don't suggest a heat-gun, what you want a fire? Let alone a heat-gun can dry out the leather!
They also go a lot deeper with packing the boots with sand, burning in with beeswax and a blowtorch, then layer after layer after layer of Kiwi. Those of us who have been in the services know all too well, but for civilian dress shoes we'll give him a by-ball 😉.
Uh......am I the only one in the comments that is going to ask wtf this guy is on trying to sell a leather mat for $225?? Seriously, who the fuck buys a mat for $225? Someone with more money than common sense, that's who!
I tried to mirror shined my shoes just the way you indicated. I am not sure if the water you are using is holy water or what. But your method is not working for me. It sucks because I love mirror-shine shoes. Ah well. I guess I will settle for average polish shoes.
hmmm, much of this video is a big, hot mess...Waaay too much cream polish applied to the uppers. Cream polish on the welt?!!!! Not removing old wax from the cap toe? Waaay too much wax applied to the cap toes and applied all the way up, including over the flex point...😲😲😲 No bueno...smh
Other guys watch gym motivation videos, I watch shoe shine motivation videos. Perfect for a sunday evening. Lovely content
Bizarrely relaxing whilst massively informative right?
I watch both...
@@tofumaker9980 Haha that's even better I suppose.

This is one the best shoe shine videos you've done to date IMHO....bravo Sir :)
God Bless! Praying for you and your family! Thank you for the informative video.
You can also use furniture markers that we used to use to touch of furniture on the heels make sure it’s close the color of be toe
Those uppers are the perfect candidate from some antiquing with a dash of black! 😉
Another great instructional video thanks Kirby!

Hi Kirby, can you do a video about how to fix scuffed mirror shine?
Great work.
Thanks kirby, much appreciated content
Do you use the same exact brush for the cleaning, the conditioning, and the polishing? Or do you use separate brushes for each step?
I notice your beautiful shoes have a little bit of red in the burnishing. Would you ever consider adding a little Hermes Red cream polish to the toe and heel to accentuate that if you started to lose that red hue over time applying layers of brown waxes and creams?
Can of Kiwi, some water and an old t-shirt...All you need for the jump boots and every other pair of shoes 😉
Doesn't sound like you have tried a Saphir product to know the difference. I used Kiwi for years and now I will never go back 😁
@@fasteddy664 Same here, made the switch and can never look at or use kiwi.
Well done! One note: the leather revitalizer you used is pronounced "rénovaTEUR" insted of "rénovaTOAR". 🙂
Great video!
If you want a real gloss finish off the polishing with lighter. The flame will melt the polish so you get a mirror finish.
Looks great!
I never had done this, but if you are worried about stress on the eyelet cut the lace at each pass over and under to reduce the tension needed to remove the old lace. It is going in the trash anyways.

mr kirby when should you use mink oil on shoes

It takes way longer than 15 minutes to get a good mirror shine. Unless you're a professional it takes time.
@@pfingstenshow I am not a professional but in 15 minutes it creates a lot of diffrence between the normal area and the mirror shined area
Unclog the brogueing?
Thanks. I'm surprised that you don't have metal toe taps, though.
Reminds me of doing my spit shining back in my Marine Corps days 40 years ago.
Nice!
Can you use the neutral color mirror gloss only
Maybe a weird question. I dont make tons of money, but i was wondering are there like places that you can buy like older used nice shoes that probably just needs some tlc and maybe a new sole for cheaper?
Ebay is the way to go if you know your size for specific brands.
Is there a big difference between using the neutral or black mirror gloss on black shoes?
Kirby, it trips me up every time, and I know French is hard for Americans, but it is “medaille door”, medaille day-ore is really way off…
What do you use to dress the sole & heel.
Amazing 😍
How do you fix crackes from wax build up
I use cotton balls and water with your Saphir crème polish-back in the Army days when I learn to do this I use a baby diaper
is twice a week too often?
Can that colour polish any shoes

I stand corrected. Just looked at both online and it appears neither the 1000 Mile or the Iron Ranger have a steel toe option. May need to go to Nick's or White's and something more custom.
Look for German brands.

My new shoe shining brush won't stop losing bristles! How do I fix it?
"Meh-dye door". Please! :)
Do you recommend wearing an old suit to polish our shoes? I don’t want to get polish on my good suit…
I believe I speak for all your viewers (I am proudly one of them) when I suggest it is certainly de rigueur to conduct certain activities with the appropriate attire, e.g., not shaving in a tie & shirt and polishing your shoes in a suit & tie.
You know Kirby rang himself up and paid for those laces.
200$ for a leather mat? Yee 😂
There are perfectly acceptable ones in Amazon for $30.
Or just use an old newspaper or magazine. @pfingstenshow
I just can't believe he's wear a steel bracelet watch with a suit. That's a modern move.
I wonder what brand of polish he's using, pity he never says...
The cap toes were not treated properly. Because there was cracking and flaking, a renomat or other wax stripper should have been used before anything else. Ignoring that, Kirby's method is perfect for most shoe maintenance routines.
A 32 minute video to show how to polish a shoe , ask a student who is late for school ! You know if u know 😂
What are your favorite outfits for those shoes?
Kirby I’ve noticed you drag your heels when you walk. Why don’t you have your cobbler install some rubber taps on the edge of your heels? Any reason you don’t?

I won't risk wearing a suit while using shoe polish. These stains don't go away easily.
I am about to pull my hair out! I just simply cannot get a mirror shine on my toe…
I always wear a pinstripe suit when I shine my shoes. For some dress shoes I wear black tie! Nothing protects you from staining your shirt like a 200$ necktie.
Having a nightmare after using that darned mirror gloss, my brown shoes look terrible now : \

All the people complaining about his French pronounciation but no one says anything when the French mispronounce English words.
$225 instead of an old towel for a leather placemat.
