If Sammy is gonna continue to charge what they do for the Fold, they gotta improve the camera and get the S-Pen housed in the phone... It's too much phone to not have the S-Pen in there.

Exactly right on all points. There is no reason why the S-Pen isn't inside this phone, cameras need to be spot on, and as I said before, the crease needs to be gone for that price.

Samsung needs to make sure their foldable has all of the Ultra features for that price. I have a Z Fold 5 but I really think paying $600 more than a S23 Ultra should get me all of the features from it, as well as the folding display.

@@MisterMathematics uh, except that just off the top of my head, all 3 cameras on the fold are inferior, it doesn't have the 10x optical zoom camera (like you pointed out), it doesn't have the 100x hybrid zoom, it has a smaller battery, it doesn't come with the S-pen, the S-pen isn't held internally, the S-pen doesn't work on the outer screen, the S-pen doesn't have the Bluetooth functions,

    • @MisterMathematics

@@callmemarc Fold has 5 cameras, and only the one on the bigger display is a crappy camera. All of the other ones take pictures of the same quality. And that's true about the S-pen. Only reason I'd switch to an Ultra is for the 10x telescope lens.

It's similar to buying a phone on a contract. Not everyone can afford the phone they want outright. Paying a monthly subscription to have the phone you want us better than not having that phone. Similarly, allowing ads to have Netflix at a discount is still better than no Netflix, if you want to watch Netflix that is.

I think Samsung phones really took off when they started to offer Wacom-enabled pen support. They were the only company to break the mold and offer a phone with a stylus that allows true pressure and tilt capabilities. I know this doesn’t mean much to the average buyer, but when they try a pen on a screen, it just feels right instead of the silly capacitive stylus pens out there. The pen feature is so overwhelmingly effective for power users that the lay person then tries to emulate the functionality in their own life. I think that was the biggest boost to Samsung’s phone department. The lack of a functional pen system with the Z Fold was and will continue to be its downfall. Overall, Samsung phones will lose their edge if they relegate their pen to a toy or gimmick instead of a power user tool. I truly believe that without this bit of tech, Samsung is no better than any other cell phone brand with a big markup. I would have purchased the Fold 5, but it didn’t include a pen. I bought my Fold 4 because it included a pen (a free case with a pen, but an included pen nonetheless). Eitherway it feels like samsungs pen is becomimg less important to the goals of the company and as such samsung is becoming less important to its potential customers. Just check out the reviews left on the microsoft store for samsung notes after samsung cut the ability to use samsung notes on non samsung computers.
    apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NBLGGH43VHV?hl=en-us&gl=US
You'll have to expand to read the slew of pissed samsung core users.
Its a big problem when your core users are being forced to find other solutions to problems Samsund once solved but no longer deem important...

I think, more than the price, the problem is the practical part of the unfolded screen. The apps use 18/9 format and normal, slab phones are better suited for it. We already have good multitasking features in normal phones.

Here's the thing and this is going to be a tough sale for any company but for foldables to have widespread adoption and we're just talking about the book style foldables not the clamshell style foldables but for the book style foldables to have widespread adoption they need to hit that all elusive price point of $1,000 which can be easily broken down into easy monthly payments over 24 months or 36 months which is what everybody is doing now in terms of carrier payments so it will be $1,000 outright or a little bit over that after taxes or you can get it easily on your carry of choice via 24 months monthly payments or 36 monthly payments. Price is by far the biggest factor holding foldables back from widespread adoption. The other major factor is the outer display The outer display needs to function as a traditional big display smartphone slab with the inner display functioning more like a tablet/laptop desktop replacement. So in terms of the outer display it needs to be a traditional 5.8 in minimum to probably we can say 6.7 in maximum with the inner display being probably 7.8 in minimum to maybe iPad mini 8.4 in maximum. And then it needs to have the compatible software to make it usable convenient yet versatile. Now in terms of Samsung they have the inner display down and the software down their main issue is that outer display and as we've seen from companies that have just entered the book style foldable market in Google and OnePlus via oppo a lot of regular people or more likely to get those style phones because they have a traditional bigger outer display and they have similar software to what Samsung offers when using the inner display. With one plus being the closest to what Samsung offers but also competing very nicely with their bigger traditional outer display and their same size interdisplay but with similar if not better software to go along with their OnePlus open. And OnePlus is doing this at a cheaper price point outright undercutting Samsung by 100 to $200 and then they have higher trade-in values which can bring the price of their OnePlus open down even further so once Samsung can figure out a way to fix these major issues they will return to dominating in the foldable department. Thank you for the great coverage as always keep up the great work have a good one and I'll catch you on the next one.

The z fold 6 ultra is what I'm excited for I told Samsung add : Make sure they do 1 tb mininum and 16 gb RAM and make a 2 tb model if no micro SD card, put 6000 mah battery. Put the charger and wire in box again. Make sure the front screen is wider even the same size as my s23 ultra . Make the screen 2500 nits . Put the s pen inside and make it work with the front screen as well as the inside screen. Put the s23 camera and work hard on low light and even create AI for improved low light video . Put 4 speakers make sure it's extra sound as good as tab s9 ultra .
The reason Ive been emphasizing these improvements is because look at pixel fold , xiaomi mix fold 3, and now one plus open fold . The competition is getting tougher and I'm a huge Samsung fan and I want them to win but they have work to do .

The ZFold 6 needs to be an S24 Ultra that folds. It doesn't look good when your most expensive device doesn't even have what the S Ultra has.
Also, the ZFold 6 needs to have a wider outer display. I love One UI but am tired of the narrow exterior display and the subpar cameras. Thick or thin doesn't matter to me as long as I get the specs and hardware for the price.
One Plus Open is calling my name.

All Sammy needs to do is copy Oppo/1+ designs put the S22U camera system on it. Increase the width to make it thinner and add more battery and the S-Pen. Bump the storage down to 256G max but offer uSD card slot with a 1TB card for $50 at time of purchase. The price should come in at $1399.

Pricing aside, one of the biggest advantages Samsung has is their software support period. More mainstream users don't like upgrading their phone every two years or being left out of new update cycles. Google understands this with their promise of a 7-year support cycle-whether they'll follow through or not given their track is another debate, but committing to longevity is an edge that many of these other companies competing with their foldables don't seem willing to engage with. Mainstream public perception of foldables, at least from my anecdotal experience, is also still hung up on reliability, and so committing to a longer software support timeline might ease some of those anxieties by implying longer-lasting hardware in that regard.

I think the reality is that the vast majority of folks out there just aren’t interested in foldables unfortunately. They have to get to a point where the price is reasonable, and they have a foldable for every regular S series equivalent so that folks who want both a phone and a tablet in one can get one at their level of needs and spend. Example Samsung S24 Fold, Samsung S24+ Fold, and Samsung S24 Ultra Fold, in each case, matching the S variants cameras etc, but adding the folding and conversion to a tablet. They also have to make the form factor a lot closer to the Google Fold or OnePlus, since the current Z Fold front screen is very difficult to use.

The price for the Z Fold series is justifiable IF they can offer premium features like it's cousin the S23U. The S23U is an excellent phone overall (best one on the market IMO), had great battery life, best cameras and of course the built in stylus. If the Fold 5 can offer those same things, it's over for all other companies...at least until Apple comes out with their foldable lol. I got the Z Fold 5 because of the trade in deal during the pre-order. That was their saving grace and what finally got me to switch to a foldable!

Samsung needs to widen the outside screen and mark it down to $1400 to make it more compelling. And include the s pen in the phone!!! If they widen the outside screen, that would make enough room for the spen!

They should make a Fold 6 Ultra, make it tiny bit wider and give it the s24 ultra camera & bigger battery. Don't make the pen smaller. The bigger pen is the best part of the fold. the note pen is tiny and terrible

Most people that hate on foldables have no clue what it's like to live with one. I have the Flip5 and it's dope AF. Plus, the trade-in deals will be insane next year too so I'll be able to upgrade for nothing. 💀

Samsung better come out with a better fold because that new One Plus open is looking very good and I might but it

Yeah that price is ridiculous. No way I can justify spending $1500 on a phone.

The crease is too noticeable. I noticed it on the Fold 3 & 4, but I didn’t return them because of that. I returned them because the cover display is just way too narrow. It physically hurt my hands to use it so I returned the Fold devices a few hours later.

I sold my fold 5 to get the oneplus open. I love Samsung software but hate that they still keep giving us inferior cameras and the front display is too narrow. It's unusable for people with even medium sized hands. They should have given us the s23 ultra level cameras for this price. They need to make a better device now or sales will fall further.

Foldables just aren't durable enough to justify the eye watering prices. There's no way I'd lose I'd lose the features on my S23 Ultra for the sake of a flimsy plastic screen and a hinge

The price needs to lowered.. then widen the phone, and give ultra cameras and spen.. the fold is supposed to be a flagship on top of flagship device.. if its the same old design next year def getting pixel fold.. the a fold 5 is lame

Price the Z Fold at 1099, and watch it sell like hot cakes. It could even eat into a major share of iPhone sales, which start at a similar price point.

I think Samsung needs a bigger outer display for the fold 6 and bigger battery to compete with the other US book style foldables at least that would make me upgrade from my z fold 4
