I love my 8.5” Ishod Cat Scratch: Twin-Tail board. I get to razor tail both sides evenly and never care which side I hop on cause it’s always gonna be the tail. I liked it so much that I bought 4 of them to store away until it’s time to set up a new one.
I just put on one of his symmetrical boards and I love it. I’ve never super benefited from the standard board with a different nose. Super good pop but maybe because I haven’t put a new deck on in 3 months. I hope Ishod is making that Nyjah type skate money, he’s really sick even if he’s rocking jean shorts.
Haha, I literally thought I couldn't skate anymore just recently, trying to break in a new pair of shoes. It can take me a sesh or two to get used to a new pair, but these ones had my kickflips flying all over the place while seemingly absorbing 70% of my pop. A week later my confidence on my board was pretty much nil, then I put on my old shoes once and turned out to still be able to skate fine, so threw out the new shoes and got another pair of the ones I had. Bottom line: it's never you and always your gear.
Dude this sounds crazy but hear me out. When you get that new pair of kicks pop them in the microwave and bend them up while they are hot then put thwm on your feet amd go skate. Boom those shoes will be broken in after 1 sesh.
Facts. They’re becoming more common tho like my local skate shop has atleast like 5 or 6 but when in 2020 they would only have 1 or less and they have hella decks
shano see but if everyone has a favorite skater why the fuck wouldn’t they say things like this about them? What’s wrong with supporting your favorite skater?
Can the brands start noticing symmetrical boards are in demand. We have two twin tail shapes out there and one twin nose. Not enough at all. Get those shapes out and people will skate it. With switch skating getting closer to the level of regular execution, symmetrical shapes best support switch learning. Get it on already, don't sleep on this.
I like twin noses better. Twin tails feel like you have a small nose but twinnoses you’ll forget the tail is a nose. Also bigger tails = better manuals. One thing i dont like is you cant have cool grip bc the graphic will be upside down a lot lol
Been skating the neen twin nose since they came out and honestly it's pretty God damn liberating to never have to think about which way the deck is facing. And it kinda eliminates that voice in your head that tells you "can't" or "can only" do something off the nose or tail. It's hard to go back to normal boards though, when everything locked down I copped as many as I could just in case, lol
there is like three models out there only. The element siamese 8.5 and 8.25, the Ishod Real and the krooked, which is said to be the real shape - and Neen Baker double nose. So effectively two twin tail (even though Ishod shape is almost between nose and tail from length) and a twin nose. The brands are sleeping on this so hard. I for my part am looking for a twin tail 8.38 or 8.25 with wheelbase no longer than 14.25 but the market on this is nonexistant. Had both elements. The 8.25 lacks concave over the width and the 8.5 has a wheelbase a bit too long with 14.5. Real Ishod has quite long tails and that's it. How can we get the brands to start offering some variety for twin tails? Or do you know more models? I heard Berger and Appleyard had twin models at some point but nowhere to be seen.
I took my trucks apart once and forgot to put pivot cups in when I put them together. For 2 weeks, I thought I’d forgot how to skate too. I was falling off on kick turns! 🤣 Finally realised and was so relieved I wasn’t totally shit.
I switched to Ishod's deck last month. I really like the symmetry because the board wears out slower since I'm not favoring my tail. Btw your "nose" won't feel too short.
Yeah man, I've never understood! The best I've gotten was "it helps you catch your ollies & flatten them better," but that doesn't explain why they're BIGGER THAN THE TAIL.
@@kevinp1046 the explanation is when you flick, the longer length of the nose allows you have more surface area to be able to manipulate how the board will flip, level out, etc. the less surface area you have, your flick will be quicker because of how much less your foot needs to travel, but would also require a more precise flick due to the shorter distance the flick needs to be. bigger noses require more effort, but ultimately can yield you a more desired type of flick because the larger size of the nose lets you have more time to adjust. also, larger noses can make your tricks higher due to the longer flick. furthermore, your weaker foot would be towards the front by the nose. so on tricks like nose slides, the traditional larger sized nose could help you balance easier and drag your toe/heel less.
I get the same thing too, it’s happened to me a few times where for like a month I just can’t skate. I’ll miss all my go to tricks that I can always do
Does anyone else think being a rider for REAL and seeing that symmetrical, oval graphic on the bottom all the time had a contribution to wanting a symmetrical, oval board all together?
Been skating symmetrical boards since I bought my second deck. Used to have a flip deck and hated the asymmetrical design, so my next deck was symmetrical and I never looked back. It only ever made sense for the board to be symmetrical, and it never felt weird to me either.
We were doing this all the way back since the late 90’s. They didn’t make anything truly symmetrical at that time but there were things that were close. A short lived board company called Renaissance is one that comes to mind. Had a Salman Agah Firm deck was another one. In other words this isn’t a new idea kids, good to see it get some exposure finally though.
Skated from 2004 till 2012 and I always wanted one but never minded a regular board. My tail was the slighty smaller side and loved popping sw on the higher end.
As a kid I never even noticed or cared that skateboards weren’t symmetrical it was use whatever side was the best of course we’d skate decks till they were flat so...🤷🏻♂️
For years I would buy a board and cut some of the nose off with a jigsaw and sand it down to make it as symmetrical as I can. When Real released the Ishod Wair boards I’ve been riding em ever since, I’m on my 8-9th Cat Scratch board. Props to Real Skateboards!!!
Board madness is real. I took a break from skating and lost 160 pounds I went up a size to a 8.38 thinking it would be way better but I skated horribly I thought I was trash it would take me like 5 try’s to kick flip and lost everything but I went to a 8.125 with low trucks and smaller wheels and I’m like a god compared to what I was now I’m Nollie treflipping and doing full cab flips again and it feels crazy and I’m extremely consistent I can fully grab my tricks. If you suck and don’t know why start changing your board parts around.
I thought the 'ishod was convinced he cant skate anymore' area of things was way more interesting than the symmetrical board stuff. Symmetrical boards just seem like the obvious conclusion. I dont know why all of my boards forever havent been trying to be symmetrical. I mean, dating back to fish boards at least. There's literally half as many variables to be concerned with in your board shape. Less variables = more consistent (if you got used to it, like a regular board). And your body would develop muscles and technique in a more mirrored sense. I know my body has taught itself to be unbalanced in this sense. But yeah - bushings are the unsung heroes of setups. I think if you put the perfect bushings for you in the shittest setup, as long as the thing rolls i think you could do all of your standard tricks. Just started thinking it consciously, but i believe it enough to say it again - bushings are the unsung heroes of setups.
Bushings ofc but nobody talk about pivot cups. Hell there are skaters who don't even know what they are. If you skate the same trucks for 2-3 years the pivot cups are usually worn out and it messes with the overall stability like crazy. Bombing hills or going fast in general becomes dangerous

Board madness is a real thing. I had the same issues with loose bolts, broken bushings, and the weirdest of all: busted pivot cups. I would be frustrated for weeks until I realize what broke.
The Mike Vallely barn yard board was made over twenty years ago and it was the same on both sides from what I remember. Also the Matt Hensley board in the early 2000 was a double tail

I'll never forget my first Toy Machine. It's was a yellow Mike Maldonado Viper pro model. The shape was fucking crazy, and the nose was huge. It took me a long time to get used to it after skating a 7.75 Alien Workshop (shit).
I've always skated my board both ways, i don't know why people kick up a fuss about skating the nose. A symmetrical board shouldn't be a ground breaking concept like these guys are talking about it, like its something new they have to get used to

Why are boards asymmetrical in the first place? What is the benefit of having a different shape/length in the nose vs. tail?
Bigger nose = more room for your weak foot, tapered tail = sharper/more consistent point to pop the board up with.
