  • In this video I talk about my experience with these 2024 annuals and how I added beautiful gaura to the mix. I have a video that I posted halfway through the season, but now, I find it necessary to share an end-of-the-summer plant review that I think will be helpful to anyone who might want to try some of these wonderful plants. I am not sponsored, however, I do like to share wins when I have them. Let me tell you; these plants were all winners. Enjoy!

    Ron, you’ve done such a beautiful job with these amazing plants!! I’m curious, how many hours of sun does this front planter receive? Did you use BT or just the Proven Winners water soluble? All the plants look so healthy. Everything I planted this year is looking so stressed 😞. You really did a great job. A+

    • @williamsgardening

      Aww, Heather, thank you so much. You made my day with that kind compliment. You just never know how things are going to turn out and I was so happy it all worked out. Like I said in the video, my roses really struggled up until recently so I was happy they rebounded. As for the petunias, I did spray them with Captain Jacks dead bug for organic gardening. I used to only use BT, but since I started to see aphids, I use it a couple of times and it took care of the issue. The front west facing planter get's about to 6+ hours of sun a day. Oh believe me, I have some things that look stressed in my back yard right now. I'm right there with you, especially after this long heat spell. Take care and thanks again for all your kind support. Have a great day. :)

    You are a very good teacher. Thanks for letting me/us know about the "west side of the house and 6+ hours of afternoon sun.” I purchased the Saffron Finch and have it in a large pot (along with Mum’s, Milkweed and other plants). It is healthy and receives about 5 hours of afternoon sun. Like how it spills over.

      Thank you so much. That really means a lot. I always feel like I’m forgetting something in my explanation, so I’m glad I remembered to mention that. An important tidbit for sure. Glad you’ve enjoyed Saffron Finch too. So good right? Have a great day and happy gardening. 🌱🌱🌱

    Hi, William-I just love your channel! Your front planter is lovely, and thank you for carefully naming each plant, its characteristics, and care. I too am a southern Californian gardener, although my space is much smaller than yours. I have come to love guara! May I ask if you’ve been able to find it at Lowe’s/Home Depot/Armstrong (I haven’t), or do you order it online? Can you recommend a source? I’m hoping it will be happy in a few large containers placed in the sun. Thank you-your gardens are beautiful!

      @@williamsgardening It’s all so very nice-and I love each project you do and how you follow up later to show us the progress. Again, please:
      where did you get the guara? Did you order online? Thank you.

      Oh my gosh.. I totally forgot that part of your question... so sorry about that. Yes, I actually ordered it from Creekside nursery online, but I know Proven Winners Direct.com also always carries that variety. Yes, we have a hard time finding most varieties here in Southern Cal. We have lots of other options from Monrovia, but little PW. It's kinda frustrating. That's why I am appreciative that PW has an online store. This was Creekside's first year with a full online store and I was very happy with the order. I have a video titled, "Our Creekside Order is Here". I go through and show how they came. :) Not that you have to, I just thought you might want to see just in case you decide to order too. Take care.

      @@williamsgardening Oh, thanks so much-I really appreciate your response! Yes, I do remember your Creekside video, and will watch it again. I love the look of the guara in your front bed and the contrast in height, texture, and movement. Thanks again, and I look forward to your next video.

    The planter looks great! Are you able to find those Proven Winners at a local nursery or do you order them online?

    • @williamsgardening
      @williamsgardening  Месяц назад +2

      Yeah, I really can't find many varieties here in our area so I do have to order them. I have found that Proven Winners Direct is a very good source. They often offer free shipping, which saves a lot. 🌱

      Hello there! Thank you so much for that kind comment. This planter is on the West side of the house and it gets about 6-7 hours of sun. I filmed the video in the morning so it looked like a cool bed, but it actually gets pretty hot in the afternoons. Have a great day and happy gardening. 🌱
