Develop Punching Power (Without Equipment)

  • Most beginners want to know how to increase their punching power... so I feel I have to open with this disclaimer:
DON’T OVER-CONCERN YOURSELF WITH POWER; TECHNIQUE/TIMING/ACCURACY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN POWER.
That being said, if you feel your technique is properly developed, let’s discuss 5 ways to increase your punching power:
    1. Rotational Torque
    2. Leg Drive & Balance
    3. Acceleration & Velocity
    4. Impact
    5. Technique

    1. Bas Twists - 3 x 1 min (2:30)
    2. 180 Jump Squat - 3 x 12-20 (4:17)
    3. Split Jump Lunges - 3 x 12-20 (4:56)
    4. Plyo Push-ups - 3 x 12-20 (6:00)
    5. Chin-ups - 3 x ~80% of your max (Or dead hangs) (8:30)
    6. Pick a punch - practice it with perfect from, A LOT, with brief pause at full extension (suggest at least 50 reps per for this routine)
Do this 3+ times a week, I’ll be adding it to the end of my lifts for extra cardio+practice, as boxing isn’t my main focus currently.
    Thanks Shane!

You can add a light weight not too heavy or your muscle memory will actually decrease your speed..half pound to 2 to 3 pound depending on your natural weight and muscle mass, the static hold at full extension with a small weight you can grip..my trainer when I was young made weighted wrist straps and said to add an extra second of static hold at full extension every ten punches and don't hold some just throw it and mix in the static hold..don't make a pattern of the hold or your muscle adjusts to it then it loses its benefit..keep me guessing and your lean fast twitch muscle will form faster and for striking instead of bulky slow muscle that can throw your technique off..learned it from my trainer, he was a 3 time regional golden glove champ b4 someone shot him mistaking him for his brother who was in a set that had a 3 year long terminate on sight rivalry with another..days of the drive by cowards..most their bullets hit the wrong person..

@@hadiffauzian-nilaiyiyo9701 no problem..its not a big secret but its something alot dont utilize into their ttaining...the results are worth it..if you feel its not helping u need to find the right pound..i preferreed to warm up my arms with a few ponds..not for technquique just to warm up the muscles then switch to one with shadow box then shadowbox without weight..you want to build muscle memory om your form but you dont want a workout routine to become repetitive..some weight lifters wonder why their gains stop at a point. Its because they are not mixing it up..their muscles asjusted to the pattern. Fundamentals are guidelines not barriers. The greatest boxers knew this. Take good care of your hands..im not even old and i get cramps and arthritis..a good wrap even during bag and nitt work can save you pain in the long run..

    Hi there,
tiny tip to build iron-forearms: learn walking upside-down!
Your triceps, forearms and hand muscles will benefit hugely by doing this.
At the beginning don't exhaggerate, cause you could get harm...after some weeks of training (even few minutes avery other day) you'll sense you got a strong hand-shake and a very tough forearm muscle

@@yaxh13 I think he means being upside down also known as handstand and then using your hands as feet to kind of walk. He could also mean being in a pushup position and having someone hold your legs. Both are great. We used to do the second one in our dojo before the virus and all that and he said it right. It's very effective, he mentioned "your triceps, forearms and hand muscles" which is true but it also works way more than that. Your shoulders, chest, upper back, lats ( lattimus dorsi the sides of your back which is basically under you armpit and behind you ribs ) and the shoulders too. I guess it works more than that too but those are the ones i can confirm.

The small is fantastic for getting your speed built up once familiar with your striking. The medium bag provides a considerable amount more resistance building more strength in your punches. I highly recommend both sizes. Some people have expressed concern over the latex bladder leaking down more frequently than the traditional rubber. I have not found this to be an issue at all.
