I have to disagree with you about the imposter kyoshi warriors point. After finding out they were imposter doesn't mean that they knew Suki was missing or captured. As we see in the introduction episode of the Kyoshi Warriors, there is much more then 3. Indicating that Sokka could have thought Suki was just back on the Island or at least not captured/missing.
@@BabyLionTurtle good video but a nitpick the avatar world takes place in a medieval-ish society and relationships worked differently from my understanding so applying modern standards is weird but the writer probably wrote with a modern perspective but you do have a point the writers, rather Sokka really doesn't seem to care for her as much as initially though they do have good chemistry
i think we all just gotta accept that Sokka rly do be polyamorous ngl. committed to Suki? sure. but Suki isn’t the only one Sokka was committed to, it’s just different edit: not to mention Touph. seems pretty poly the way she talks to Sue and Lin so it all checks out 👍
@@DGSnowolf It fumbles the bag a lot, but I wouldn't say it sucks. It's okay, not good and not bad, although there's lots of good ideas, bad ideas, and honestly a lot more poor execution than good, but it's okay. It's just okay, in my opinion.
I'm not a Simp, but this low-key made me sad. I love Sokka and Suki. They were the one stable couple in the show. I didn't even notice that she wasn't around that much, because she just seemed to fit.
Nothing here proves they don’t end up together. Just because the scrapbook doesn’t mention them being together doesn’t mean they weren’t. And it couldn’t give that information because they don’t want it to interfere with any future canon content
@@sofakingdom5806 The problem with this situation is 70 years had passed and Sokka had been dead for almost 20 years. Plug this into the real world. Does your grandparent mention the partner of their sibling whose been dead for decades? Unless Sokka and Suki had a kid there was really no reason for Suki to come up in conversation without it being fan service.
Stable couple? Sure, lets just ignore those episodes in the northern water tribe. Sokka was totally going to stay faithful to suki. Right after he was done banging the ice princess.
Suki needed better writing Aang should have thanked her for saving Appa that would have defined their freindhip even better + she is literally a product of a PAST AVATARS work, Zuko, Aang and Suki are all technically interwoven by the fact that they are in some way, related to Avatars, if only the writers had paid more time into it. Also, Katara consistently begged for another girl on the team, and when they got Toph, a tomboy she was dissapointed. I wish they had a scene where Katara feels some relief that another girl is on the team, in the end I'd consider her a member but the WRITERS are at fault for the vagueness of her membership !!! + another thing to mention, Suki consistently remained an ALLY of the team while Zuko hunted them down, if a former adversary is on the team, why isn't a consistent ally??
I always wished ATLA got like 5 more episodes in the final season. One for Toph's field trip with Zuko, one focused on Suki and her relationship with the Gaang and one for Azula (and the other two to make the last few episodes feel less rushed). Also what I was thinking with Azula is just more in her perspective, like we got from her during the final episodes. I'd love to see more of her just being Azula and going around her daily life. Maybe even a day in the life of Azula thing.
Suki had other priorities. Like making sure her warriors were in check. Also toph thought ang how to earth bend. If Suki was with the team it would have been to much in every episode.
Personally something I liked about this show is that they had pretty realistic and human characters. I kinda like that they didnt have every relationship work out. Aang and katara needed time to grow closer and grow up together while Sokka and Suki never really got stronger and sorta fizzled out. I like that they have that. It seems realistic and also shows what may happen when you live a life of constant travel. Its hard to keep a relationship.
@@ava4689 Well Sokka and Suki were in a stable relationship during the show but as it is, I guess it's okay that it fizzled out afterwards. Especially if that means Toph is **in** now
See, I ignore all cannon that says they break up. Bc these two are just too perfect. She did what seemed impossible in early season one: she humbled him. She took sokka’s sexism and showed him how wrong he was, and when he apologized she gave him a second chance. And then she did it AGAIN in season two! They balance each other in so many ways!
I think suki is an ally of team avatar not a member. just like zuko and iroh other good chracters they are ally of team avatar. because team avatar only includes sokka katara later toph and of course aang
She is captain of Zuko’s guard, learned chi blocking from Ty Lee, and is very much alive and well and with Sokka in the comics. She’s also with Team Avatar in several of the comics. Beyond that, I really don’t know what y’all are talking about.
I don't really buy into the whole it was just a teenage fling. Both of them share similar values of wanting to help others, and they both deeply admire and respect each others abilities and character. They have also been in multiple life or death situations (I mean it wouldn't be surprising that two people fighting a war together in their teens would still be very close in their old age)
@@DrDolan2000 just because its fantasy doesn't mean it can't have an air of realism. Bending is unrealistic but the lore behind it gives it a sense of realism.
@@DrDolan2000 imo the story is stronger with realism. Both couples surviving until old age wouldn't ruin the story but isunrealistic. While having one fall apart brings more dynamics and showcases the variety of what real relationships look like. Goofy unrealistic stuff is great in the right setting, but Avatar is pretty mature, even for a kids show so I wouldn't say it belongs here.
Suki is that side character that absolutely deserves to be a main character and has some of the most clutch saves/assists in the series. She’s saved the main members numerous times before.
Suki is a side character, for sure. However, she could have developed more later. To me, it was bizarre that when the Kyoshi warriors came to visit, none of the gangs went and tried to greet them, especially Sokka. Sokka kept Suki as an afterthought the whole time. His true love was the moon girl, but Suki was the kind of girl he knew and thought was pretty. I always felt Suki was more into Sokka than vice versa.
@@faruquekhan3353It feels like by the end he's a little more over Moon gf, but it makes sense that he would struggle to find it in him to be as emotionally available to Suki, when he's still assumedly mourning the moon.
Based on what she deserves to be a main character? Fighting skills? Being early season 1 character? Relationship with Sokka? Because she has a lot less depth that people like Mai and Tai Lee who people don’t see as main characters.
Fun fact: because “suki” means “bitch” in some of the slavic languages, including Russian (where it means “bitches”, plural), in the Russian dub of the ATLA she was renamed as Suyuki.
Minor counterpoints: I'd actually argue Suki ISN'T Sokka's first love, and that title actually goes to Yue. Sokka can be seen as Toph's first love, so them ending up together would kinda be like being with the person you liked in your teen years, which goes against that point you made. Discounting Su Yin (possibly), we don't see any of Sokka's kids IF he had any. It's entirely possible he and Suki just didn't have kids and he was embellishing to seem cooler, not purposefully hinting at them breaking up. It's also equally possible they DID break up as well. We don't know either way.
@@D_C_H_A The theory I heard that tickles me the most is that at least one of toph's daughters is with Sokka, and that her being as independent as she is didn't tell Sokka about it because he would defintely be a part of their life but they don't mention it in the sequel series.
I like Suki, but sadly she kinda suffers from “minor character syndrome” where we never really get to know her, she’s never the centerpiece of an episode and rarely interacts with the main characters besides sokka. I do think without a doubt they were intending to have her as a main character in team avatar, but just didn’t have the time with how quickly the final season was wrapped up. Most of that final season is focused on the eventual final battle and zuko’s redemption, so they kinda did this rushed induction into team avatar and left it at that. She does help them quite a bit which helps her case for being in the team and given more time it would’ve worked, but as it’s just not quite there. Will say I liked her and sokka as a couple tho, I’m not in the know on the popularity of ships or whatever in this series, but I thought they meshed well together.
Teams need support characters and suki is just that support. She helps every now and again and then goes back into the background. Similar to how Iroh does.
@@ava4689Makes sense, it kinda parallels Samwise Gamgee in some ways, since he never sees himself as the Ringbearer, but deep down, everybody sees him as the hero.
Seriously, Suki should be part of Team Avatar, when times were low for them, should we be reminded on the Serpent's Pass, where there were times when Team Avatar were at their lowest, Aang just lost Appa, Sokka trying to get over his loss with Yue, and while journeying on their way to Ba Sing Se on foot, helping a poor couple while the wife was expecting a child? Plus in Appa's Lost Days, where Suki along with the rest of the Kyoshi Warriors helped calm and clean Appa from his previous adventures and moments of being captured while Aang and the others were situated in Ba Sing Se. Suki helped Sokka overcome his grief, as well as assisted Katara and Toph in helping the wife give birth to her child in that episode. Plus in the finale, she also helped Sokka and Toph in infiltrating and hijacking the Fire Nation War Ships while Aang and Ozai were duking out on each other.
You’re damn right Suki was an instant fan hit. She fits in the story perfectly and I absolutely love her, the kyoshi warriors, and their costumes. I can’t even imagine the show without suki and the kyoshi warriors .
Suki is a unit. The scene where she kidnaps the warden is just perfect she prisoners heads as stepping stones, scales the wall like a lizard, uses the pipe and railing to shift her body from upside down to right side up goes low to use the guards weight against them and when the warden is like, “you wouldn’t dare” she’s like try me. I love Suki
I think an aspect that has not been touched upon in this discussion is how all the material you mentioned are not exactly in Chronological release. The Book Legacy came out in 2015 while Imbalance released in 2018 and Suki Alone came out in 2021. Its very likely that the priority for her character switched over time, she used to not have merch at all and out of nowhere she had a Funko Pop, her own comic, appearing in board games and is part of the face of Avatar Generations. Like how you mentioned revisionist history and that very much could be the case, even if Sokka didn't come for Suki, its pretty much played out as a "destiny" thingy for them to cross paths and destiny is a funny thing. I seriously believe that the lack of inclusion Suki had in the Gaang has a lot more to do with marketability rather than canon facts, you bring up the Old Friends poster but it should be noted that Suki was in fact included in the Legend of Korra intro and those came around the same time and Tenzin was in the New Friends poster and as far as we know, he is not really part of the Krew. So its kind of a case of how much you are willing to believe marketing over the show. Another case of this is the recent rereleases of the comics and something that stand out is that the new cover for Smoke and Shadow finally included Suki, something that the old releases didn't do despite she having an important role. I should also bring up the fact that the second rereleases of the comics that came years ago fixes Suki's eye color to blue. The weather for Suki changed. You bring up the Legend book but I think it should be noticed that the book put an odd effort into straight up erasing Suki, it is more notable in Legend of the Fire Nation that they had to take out Suki as much as possible even in the part where Iroh talks about the Boiling Rock and at that point is just felt very inconsistent (said book also have Azula looking like the Joker). And its kind of the common problem here. You go with merch that say that Suki is not in the Gaang and then you have probably more trustworthy sources treating her as part of the team, like how the Avatar RUclips channel revealed the Gang's ages, info we already knew, but for what I believe its the first time ever, they confirm she is 15 years old, or at least bother to dig in that information to add her. So its oddly conflicting here, I don't think you can't have a definitive answer if she is part of the team but we have examples of the show itself saying she does.
That's a super good point about the material not being released in order and all the newer material making more of an effort to include her. However, that still calls into question her absence from the leaked Team Avatar movie poster (the newest piece of Avatar material).
@@BabyLionTurtle I don't think there is an answer for this but is the same I mentioned before, marketing vs show, the Legend of Korra was promoted with the Old Friends poster without Suki but the show of the Legend of Korra itself starts its first frame with a picture of Suki, the Promise also doesn't have her in the covers despite being a plot relevant character with the Gaang in the actual story, Imbalance doesn't have her in the plot either even tho she is definitely main character in issue 2 and 3. Suki is a character that has been all over the place in marketing, but IMO I don't think her character should be judged by that. There are other things that I kind of disagree about your opinions towards Suki but most of it is YMMV on my part, like for example, I feel that the episodic nature of the show stopped Sokka from referencing her more often, even in Book 1 there are notable inconsistencies for the sake of being episodic like Katara knowing Zuko's name despite he never presenting himself to anyone or how Katara claim Sokka was never kissed by a girl despite that being not true, even Avatar Extras had to add that it was Suki. And in Book 3, its shown Sokka does actually remember Suki like when he briefly mentioned her name during the presentation for the Black Sun invasion, saying she dressed him as a girl and then kissed her, Sokka doesn't really mention anyone without reasons, like how he suddenly never talks about Yue but instantly defend her name like a hopeless romantic when Toph suggested that the Moon might have done something or how he never talk about his dad or especially his mom if they are not referenced in any way first. I also have to add how she practically opened the gates to everything we end up exploring about Kyoshi, how despite having little appearances she stands out more than the average side character and that we know more about her than Mai and Ty Lee (although its not a competition) but I'm mostly rambling at this point,
@@pepscd Technically, Sokka hadn't been ROMANTICALLY kissed by a girl before at that point, as Suki had only kissed him on the cheek, so, Katara's statement was both correct and incorrect. Sokka had never been kissed romantically by a girl, but he had been kissed by one in general.
While I don't disagree with what's stated, I figure the toph reminding sokka about sukki in the letter bit could be because sokka was helping toph write one (Since toph is blind and all), and sokka read his aloud for her after he'd already wrote it, hence toph reminding him was at the end so that at least is understandable
Yue means moon in Chinese, Tsuki means moon or can be translated to love with a shorter u in Japanese, Suki means to like in Japanese. Since Sokka fell for 2 people with moon in meaning & seeing Sokka's 1st gf was moon related, seems fair the creators intended both meanings for Suki. Suki was a much better & lovable character of the 2. & in Tsuki Ga Keire, with expression given, Tsuki meant 'The moon is beautiful' or 'I love you'. I see a huge connection with moon & love with both characters in ATLA.
I disagree to start "Tsuki" (つき/月) and "Suki" (すき/好き) are very different and please clarify what you mean by "Tsuki means moon or can be translated to love with a shorter u in Japanese" like what do you mean by "Shorter u"? The way you said it implies "つうき" means "Moon" and "つき" means "To love" which is incorrect also you romanized 月が綺麗 incorrectly it does not contain a diphthong in either syllable and also you said "Tsuki meant 'The moon is beautiful' or 'I love you'" ummm what? 月 means moon 月が綺麗 is what I think you meant.
I think you're confusing main characters from a marketing perspective with story based relationships. Suki is obviously a member of the squad. Not just because she's Sokka's girlfriend but because she played a huge part in preventing the destruction of the Earth Kingdom during Sozin's comet. Storywise these are unbreakable bonds of friendship and comradery. But obviously she wouldn't be on the poster. The same way Luna Lovegood wouldn't be on a Harry Potter poster, it would just be the main 3 protagonists, but are you doubting the bond she and Neville have with the rest of them? Marketing and story are different things. Someone has to get the leading role, but their characters are still just human with real relationships.
I completely disagree. In Avatar, even if you look at the people interacting with the main characters and their team, The first 3 humans are obviously Aang, Katara, and Sokka. But once Toph gets into the team, she becomes part of it. Then, in season 3, there is Zuko, and Suki. You can compare why one is considered part of the main cast, and the other is not because of this. We knew a lot more about Zuko before he joined Avatar and the group, and he had a lot of interactions with them. He also had good moments with them before joining them. Later, he redeems, joins them, and tries to earn their forgiveness. He also has that nightly adventure with both Katara and Sokka. His relationship was, in general, with the group. On the other hand, Suki had only one episode of a relationship with Sokka in season 1, and then she was gone until season 2, where she could have developed more, but she did not. She helps them in the past, but then she gets captured later, and nothing is heard of her until the end of season 3 with her rescue and final battle. The problem was that if they added a little bit more of her interactions with others and more scenes of her doing her things, it would make her feel like a part of the. main cast.
@@faruquekhan3353 Zuko is a completely different situation. He was a main antagonist turned friend then leader of the post war world alongside Aang. And, like I said in my main comment, Suki is NOT a part of the main cast. That's not what we're debating. I'm saying that she's an integral part of team Avatar. But she's a secondary character and a member of the Kyoshi warriors so she doesn't have as much screen time. But she's Sokka's girlfriend and, more importantly, Team Avatar is literally spelled out in season 3. Sokka says "Team Avatar is back. Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Fan and Sword." Suki is clearly the fan.
@@ioannispaxinos5171@ioannispaxinos5171 Yes, Sokka says that, but the story does not support it. The problem was that the writers should have given Suki importance. It was like she was added and then forgotten. Suki is used as a tease throughout the time, and the writers never go full throttle with her to make her feel like Team Avatar. She is the closest person to Team Avatar status without being Team Avatar, but she was treated as a background character within their scenes. I recently rewatched the Avatar, and in certain parts, it was just weird with Suki, for example, crossing the Serpent pass. It is like, at a particular time, she is totally forgotten. She seemed more like a plot device than a critical character you would invest in. There was no buildup of her character, which was a shame, but the rest of the cast mentioned their growth throughout Avatar and even Toph, who was introduced much after Suki. But with Suki, it was like a plot device. It was like lets just another warrior into the group who can be the girlfriend of Sokka, rather than the characters as a whole.
@@faruquekhan3353 Every character has their journey. She may have been a secondary character throughout the show, but she ended up in team avatar after the prison escape. They don't have to spell it out, it is made clear. Plus it's literally spelled out. OK, I get it, you wanted more in previous episodes, that doesn't change her status, just your perception.
1) She was introduced too late and they didn't want a scrappy Doo situation 2) She has to take care of the Kyoshi Warriors. Edit: I remembered her coming later. Please forgive my false memmory
@@Maibuwolf Well she was a leader of her own group also by then everyone fell into their rolls and she was kids redundant. Toph was added later she was there to teach earth bending at first.
Personally I think both Sokka and Suki always did have had a place in each others hearts its just that life, and their own personal responsibilities to others, never allowed them to deepen their relationship like what we see with Aang and Katara. In my own head cannon they were always to busy trying to make the world a better place such that both of them never married. Sokka building Republic city and Suki and her warriors being the avatar's world's equivalent of a UN peacekeeper. However, when they would be lucky to be in the same place and time they would always sneak out and steal some minutes out of their busy days to hang out, joke around and maybe make out like crazy in Sokka's office. It feels realistic in the same vane of Aang/Katara's troubled parenting situation and Toph's failed marriages that not everybody will get a fairy tale happy ending even after meeting what could have been the love of their life and that is ok.
@darkencat4082 Just because they didn't get married doesn't mean that they weren't still a romantic couple, and weren't still committed to one another. You don't have to marry your significant other.
@@Optimegatrongodzilla True, true. Just because they were both dedicated to something else (i.e: helping people) doesn't mean that what they had isn't wasn't as special. I guess its (in my melodramatic head canon) deliciously bittersweet that they were so close, but circumstance kept them so far away. It also gives a comforting (in contrast to the current attitude on relationships) that just because you had something, then lost it along the way, that it doesn't mean what you had is any less then what somebody who goes through a fairy tale romance.
@darkencat4082 Since Tophs children don’t even own who their fathers are she could not have been married. Unless there were some secret marriages that ended soon tragically. It’s disappointing to me that Korra made Toph a person who would not even tell her kids who their fathers are.

Alright, yeah you’ve convinced me, that letter is a little damning. But I don’t think “He wasn’t consistently thinking about her” is a good explanation for why a character relationship sucks, nor is “we never saw them mad at each other,” but fair enough
@@rabiesbiter5681And when Sokka was being too overprotective of her when they travelled through Serpent’s Pass. It was somewhat brief, but she was clearly getting fed up.
The only mistake they've ever done for the series was that they didn't give us any information about what happened to the characters after Ozai's defeat... They had to make 10 episodes explaining what happened to them and a glimpse of how Aang and his team built the republic city.
@@tylerpatti9038She really is sidelined and she doesn't really have an impact to really call her part of the team, she just pops up in the boiling rock and stays for the finale and leaves with the warriors when it's over and her helping end the war doesn't mean she is part of the team if that's the case then Iroh, Jeong Jeong, Piendao,Bumi and Pakku should be in the team too. Maybe they just thought it wouldn't make sense to put everything together so they just decided on what we actually see in the intro. Team Avatar will always be; Aang,Katara,Sokka,Toph and Zuko. Plus Appa and momo.
It makes sense for Sokka to be with Toph as they are writing the letters, Toph cant write. And she wouldnt want anyone else knowing her more cheesy thoughts except for people close to her like Sokka. Just saying.
To elaborate on this, it can also mean lots of things. What if Aang and Katara were also in the room but only toph was relevant for this comment due to being part of the 3 person team they had. Its just kinda silly in my opinion to read deeper into it than it should be.
@@ZuckerBubi It isn't silly. In a work of fiction, nothing is left to the hasard. The creator choose to have Toph intervene in the letter rather than have Sokka correct himself or have someone else's intervention.
Ever since I watched Korra my head cannon was that Sokka was Suyins father, and Toph never told him because shortly after Lins birth Toph and Kanto (Lins father) parted ways, possibly because of the stress of raising a child together, so when she had Suyin she;d pbably be worried about losing Sokka too, and that's why she never told him, and she kept it secret after his death so people wouldn't think he was an absent father plusI think it kind of fits with Tophs personality, she's always been strong an independent, so of course she'd feel she could raise her kids on her own
Right. So a character whose entire arc revolves around his desire to live up to the example of his father is supposed to be a deadbeat dad? Some people will do anything to ship Tokka.
@@mr.waffles8739 so why did Toph not tell Sokka? Not merely about his having a kid, but about any of Suyin's issues? I mean, she got arrested for being in a triad for goodness sake, and we're supposed to believe Sokka just did nothing? The argument for Sokka's paternity always needs to dodge this fundamental issue. It's the fundamental weak point of the "Su is Sokka's dad" argument. Suyin got into trouble with the law, and needed to lay low, away from the eyes of republic city. Assuming Sokka was her father, and he was a world leader - the Chairman of the Republic City Council, and the Chieftain of the Southern Water Tribe - why did Toph not get in contact with Sokka and send Suyin to him? He would have been an ideal solution. But she didn't. Suyin never even visited the Southern Water tribe to our knowledge. It was the perfect opportunity to get Su out of Toph's hair and get her father involved in her life (something that both Toph's daughters always felt was a gap in their lives). But it just didn't happen. It's almost as if there is as much of an oversight as Suki's inclusion.
I won't lie you completely changed my perspective on Suki with this video. Major props as I've been a die hard Avatar fan since it was airing on Nick. It's hard to believe Suki was never a primary thought for Sokka or anyone on Team Avatar for that matter.
I would agree that she doesn't exactly feel like a full member of team avatar, but that's not going to stop me from considering her as one because she DESERVES to be one
I did notice how Suki was missing from a lot of the show (like scenes where she just disappeared/reappeared magically/ignored). I do think the interactions might have originally been there, but might have been cut for time. I really would have liked more story about Suki, but I also like the ending she got. Not everyone has to end up with anyone. She had a passion and talent and she honoured it by making it her priority; it's part of what made her an awesome character.
That letter doesn't sound like Sokka. Sokka isn't the kind of person to pretend he did most of the work. Embellishing things, sure. But, he wouldn't forget that Suki saved his (and Toph's) lives. However, if we are to take the letter meaning how things stood; there is no mention of Sokka with Toph as a couple. They wouldn't have a reason to hide a relationship either. If anything, they'd feel more comfortable telling Sokka's own nephew (Tenzin) about it. I highly doubt Sokka got together with Toph and had Suyin.
I see things like this happening more often recently. Fictional characters who worked really well together... suddenly breaking up. I get that it's realistic, but I HATE it. As a writer myself, it always feels like negative character development when a legitimately good couple breaks up. It feels as if whoever wrote the break up sees the relationship as a hindrance.
I really agree with u and what some people might not think about, i find it good that suki has her own „gaang“ of friends, the kyoshi warriors. And that all these kids become lifelong friends in a sense of why like sharing friends and knowing new people and sometimes hang out together. As an example Suki -> Leader of the kyoshi warriors + Friends with team Avatar Ty lee-> Best Friend Mai + friends with zuko ->which makes her Friends with team Avatar + being a Member of the kyoshi Warriors who are friends with Team Avatar.
Suki its not „bitch”, its „bitchES” in polish. So when Azula with her friends dressed up as Kyoshi warriors and Sokka yelled „Thats Suki!”… yes, Sokka. Suki are coming.
Despite how shows tend to go for “forever love”, I never expected Sokka and Suki to be the type to settle down together and start a family. I expected them to be the type to love each other, but not sacrifice their duties and personal goals for a relationship. In those regards, they’d be the couple that acts like a traditional couple when present, but be completely fine with each other going off and doing whatever they need to do for long periods of time.
I really love Suki, but to me she doesn't feel like a member of the Gaang bc her most important moments came when she was not part of the group yet, like saving Appa and helping to escape from the prison. Zuko feels more like a member because he was important as Aang's firebending teacher, but Suki mostly only hung around with them and didn't get a big enough role after she joined. I wish she'd have joined earlier and been more included, bc rn when I think of the Gaang, she's more of an afterthought to me
Suki is important to Team Avatar because she makes Sokka not be bitter, hard-headed, doubtful, sarcastic, and lacking self-esteem; I wonder without Iroh or Mai who that would be for Zuko, Aang?? Sokka?? Toph?? also Suki?? Katara?? All five of them??
I might be the biggest Suki simp but I like the idea of them breaking up, if that both explains her lack of screentime AND allows Sokka to slide into Toph's DMs. Because I'm also the biggest Sokka simp. That's bisexuality for ya
People who say Suki was an afterthought because she wasn’t mentioned in legend of Korra and that also means Azula Tylee, and may we’re also an afterthought
9:52 I think he did have Suki on his mind she just wasn't he's MAIN focus, infact a LOT was on his mind, he's like 14 and he has to deal with the fact that the world is going to end if he's not good enough, also I think it's fine that his dad was his first priority because Suki was missing for months but his dad was missing for years, also sokka knew 100% his dad was there but to him Suki could have been anywhere. 12:28 and I feel that sokkas one of those guys who can't sit in the same place for too long, his life is based around adventure so yea. 14:43 I believe he did this because he has this whole "I'm the main character" feel and so after years of telling himself that he single handedly saved the day he eventually believed it, and the point that sokka wasn't with toph is kinda weird because they both carry huge responsibilitys.
Sokka was 16. And the show takes place over 9 months so he probably has a birthday at some point and turned 17. The comics take place over two years so would end when he is probably 19.
I find it weird on how ppl get frustrated when the story doesnt end how they want. I chose to understand they end together. Even if they create a comic showing how they got separated, i will still rather have my version, because thats all it is: a history. Chose the one that makes you happy. Noones life is going to be affected
15:55 I do not think it a photo. Yes camera we’re existing at this time however they took black and white pictures. Not coloured ones. Like I said I do recall Brian and Mike in one of their interviews said they will tweak canon in few places for consistency. In addition books like avatar legacy do not reveal much. This is their big flaw
In Korra times, she might return and retire to Kyoshi island and becomes a mother there and on weekends or extra weekdays, Sokka sees her and the kids. Later on, both of them pass away together in Kyoshi island, I don't see the idea of them breaking up. I still don't understand why they don't feature their kids in the Korra cartoon either, it's weird. And when there's the Kyoshi warriors, there's Ty Lee too, she might settle down in Kyoshi island too and possibly marry there with an Earth Kingdom man.
Breaking up would be preferable to life where the kids barely ever see their dad. Even Aang’s two older kids had issues with how little Aang could be around and Sokka had big issues of his father leaving. I can’t see him intentionally doing that to any child of his. Also traveling would not have been that easy. If they stayed together in can’t see them having children if they lived in different places.
Yeah I like Suki, but really she is primarily a love interest in the story outside of her opening episode. She hardly interacted with anyone outside of Sokka, and so often faded into the background. She’s fine for what she is. And her and Sokka are probably the best written couple in the entire of the ATLa/LoZ because the relationship writing wasn’t its strongest point.
simping?!?! This is outrageous, she was literally on the front lines with Toph and Sokka, The reason she wasn't in the group is that she is a Kyoshi warrior and was in prison throughout the last saga. She is beast imo
Honestly, after reading the comics I believe that Sokka ended up with Toph (they spent a lot of time together, that’s true, even in the show there are some hints, + her children’s characters are way too similar with Sokka’s, especially Lin’s), while Suki might have end up with Zuko being mother to Izumi (as he broke up with May and she was serving as his guardian. All those looks and blushing in the comics 🤭🤭… + I would say that Izumi’s character is more similar to Suki then May) Literally, why would she leave Sokka and set off to the Fire Nation? And I completely agree that Sokka didn’t devote enough attention to her. At least not as much as Zuko to May or Aang to Katara, or he himself to Yue… However, I really liked their relationship during the animated series, but I think everything just moved on after. I guess having Sokka with Toph and Zuko with Suki would make quite a sensible, logical ending.
If Sokka and Suki broke up, at the same time Zuko had with Mai. Both, Zuko and Suki, could have found comfort in each other. After all, Suki was a bodyguard for Zuko. Enemies to lovers genre. I think Suki could’ve had a one-night relationship with Zuko. I still think Izumi is Zuko x Suki daughter. After being a Zutara fan girl, I still like the idea of Zuko x Suki together. Just my opinion though.
Suki is just a really great character tbh. She’s the most memorable of the side characters for a reason. Honestly wish that we got more of Suki after the Fire Lord’s defeat.
This is disappointing.....Suki is amazing. 😞😢 also every couple is unique and interacts uniquely. In addition Brian and Mike did say they will tweak canon a bit. Maybe things will change.
Solo espero que modifiquen el canon de lo que dijeron en la leyenda de korra. Que hagan las cosas bien para que no se creen más dudas sobre los personajes del ATLA.
Suki's character is a warrior and always be. She's a lonewolf actually, who can't settle in a relationship. She comes and goes in team Avatar, plus she already has her own team
I never thought she was like, a full on member of the group. I thought she was just an honorary member. You know, since she didn't teach Aang any elements or anything. She was just the girlfriend of someone in the group. She gets along well enough with everyone in the group, they can be friendly, enjoy each others company, respect each other, hang out, but their not the best of friends. They arent going to specifically reach out to each other by letter or go see each other or anything if they arent already together or if somone in the group didnt invite them along. Suki certainly proved herself, she has done a lot for the world and she saved Sokka and Toph's lives. If she got closer with the other members then maybe I could see her becoming a bit more of an actual member. But really, she was just there for Sokka and not there for Aang, so since Aang is the Avatar and the one that everything is supposed to hang around, she cant really be part of Team Avatar. Because she is in Aang's corner only because of Sokka. Edit: Okay, I dont care who Sokka got with, and you are right that it would be unrealistic for everyone we saw dating at the time to stay together. But really, if any of them were going to break up, it would have made more sense for it to be Katara and Aang. They had a turbulent relationship to say the least. Sokka and Suki just liked each other abd were healthy and wholesome. It makes no sense that they would be the ones to break up while another couple is right there that had issues and yet stayed together.
im taking notes on each episode on my current rewatch. i really started thinking about suki and... yeah. i never really cared for suki in any viewing but now that i'm really breaking everything down, i started to realize how little suki actually matters. how her surprise appearance was really just random. her biggest impact being on finding appa and nursing him back to help with the other warriors. an important one no doubt, score 1 for suki. it goes on and on.. suki never adds much except for a few really funny parts and some clutch moments. she's really just tossed in. P.S. sokka does get aang killed, but you missed the part where he actually does it :)
I agree with most of the stuff, but the part where your Aang is talking about their relationship in the scrapbook as past tense is likely just because he anticipated for Tenzin to read it in the future, which is why he is writing it in the past tense. Notice how the same passage says she "led" the Kyoshi warriors. Also past tense.
Ok the soundtrack for this video was actually fire! Playing "Dancing in the Moonlight" while talking about how Sokka's more into Yue even after meeting Suki was an inspired choice, like damn
At some point I was rooting for her and Sokka’s breakup when Zuko broke up Mai. I didn’t like Mai. And Suki was kinda getting closer to Zuko as his bodyguard in the comics. I was rooting for ZukoxSuki because Sokka clearly fathered one of Toph’s kids.
But, Sokka didn't. At least it is highly unlikely. Sokka would have been around when Suyin is born (evidently even into her adult years); so he would have had plenty of time to figure out whether or not he is the father.
@@joesunday199 No. Yakone murdered Sokka in the courtroom very shortly after Suyin was born. Toph only survived due to her earthbending which is heavily implied to be able to influence the human body like bloodbending.
@@seto_kaiba_ What? Sokka was still alive. He was there to defend/save Korra from the Red Lotus. Tenzin even states as such. Also, nothing ever suggests that Toph needed Earthbernding to survive Yukone.
Sakka doesn’t deserve sukki. Hate in the LA show I feel like their connection was so good and knowing later down the line it doesn’t go anywhere beyond the show
I mean, you’re just describing a long distance relationship compared to two people who are together all the time at this point. There’s different types of relationships. Just like in real life.
This can be reconciled that while Saaka did not have Suki as a priority in his rescue mission, Kyoshi was prescient enough to see that their destinies would intersect. Another is to consider her a reserve member. No matter what she was a key part of the final battle.
9:54-9:55 That's how the spirits work, no Suki wasn't being lied to, yes Sokka didn't have any idea he was going to rescue Suki all that means is that Kyoshi knew how it was going to go down but since she is a spirit will not tell Suki. Sprits and higher beings know what will happen but do not reveal it to lower beings since the lower beings cannot understand or see what they can.
i would say she is more of a sub member and i mean that like she has been on the team for a bit like as a part of the episode but not in the gaang but some other people might fit into this but she isnt in the gaang just part of it sometimes but yeah.
it really all comes down to the fact the show only had 3 seasons if it had just one more then i bet that suki would have ahad a bigger part since she was already in season 3 alot
I actually thought Suki ended up with Zuko and she is the current fire lord’s mother. She was around him a lot after his breakup with Mai and he just seemed perfect for the rebound. While Sokka made a daughter with Toph. They were spending a lot of time together and Toph always had a thing for him. I just can’t really picture the playboy Sokka settling down with just one girl. Probably has a bunch of bastards running around all over the world. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Suki caught him cheating and kicked his ass then run crying to her boss zuko and hooking up with him instead.
Im Polish and i watched only polish dubbing of avatar when i was like 13, they didnt change her name so it was weird for me and my friends to say that we like girl who literally is named "BITHES"
I think that Suki isn't on team avatar. I've never thought of her as one of them in the same way I wouldn't consider iroh on team avatar even after all of his help. She is the leader of the Kyoshi warriors and the Kyoshi warriors are allies to team avatar in the same way the white lotus is. As the leader I would say that Suki has a diplomatic relationship between the two groups. And that's okay. She has her own life and her own things going on. That's what makes her such an interesting character. I would hate it if she suddenly got absorbed into her love interest the way any female character in most media is. So that's my hot take. She isn't team avatar and all the better for it. Even if that puts a wrench in our need for every story to be perfectly wrapped in a bow where everyone gets their heteronormative marriage and 2.5 kids ending.
I always thought Suki and Sokka broke up after the war ended. People were questioning where Sokka's kids were, and well. There's Suyin who looks like she could be Sokka's. That or Sokka just never had children, which each to their own. Also yeah, Suki isn't really a part of Team Avatar, she's very much a side member. She still did a lot to end the war, but so did Iroh and the White Lotus members.
I have to respectfully disagree with you on Suki not being a member of Team Avatar. I always felt like she became part of the team in Book 3 and was a vital member, especially on the day they finally stopped the Fire Nation's reign of terror.
I mean yeah, Sokka even said in the season 3 finale “Team Avatar is back. Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Fan, and Sword!” He said Fan which literally represents Suki. She’s totally a member of the team because Sokka even said it. She’s also rumored to be in the new movie as one of the team members. It does suck how they forgot to add her on the poster. 😢
@@tylerconnelly5142 "It does suck how they forgot to add her on the poster. 😢" yeah because she isn't. just cuz the "leader" says she's part of the group don't mean she is. she's more like a hired gun that just so happens to be friends with team aang and the "leader's" gf
I get not saying Suki isn't team avatar because she wasn't there for angs journey, but when it mattered for team avatar stopping ozai she was right there with toph and sokka on the airships during sozins comet
So if I'm getting this right... Originally, Yue was essentially just there to save the spirit and become the Moon. Flat out giving Sokka emotional trauma and just leaving it at that. But since the writers, artists, and fans liked Suki, she became apart of the Gaang. If her popularity wasn't there the writers and creators would have basically just left Sokka emotionally damaged throughout the entire series. Thats messed up.
Suki clearly consumed the Kool-aid and is currently completely committed to the cute & culty Kyoshi club.... and we love that for her! ❤💚
bltavatar.com/raid 👈 Install RAID & watch their new animated episodes!
@@validking7926 that's actually a completly fair point
@@BabyLionTurtle good video but a nitpick the avatar world takes place in a medieval-ish society and relationships worked differently from my understanding so applying modern standards is weird but the writer probably wrote with a modern perspective but you do have a point the writers, rather Sokka really doesn't seem to care for her as much as initially though they do have good chemistry

Ah, they're still canon to me, this is just speculation.
Nothing here proves they don’t end up together. Just because the scrapbook doesn’t mention them being together doesn’t mean they weren’t. And it couldn’t give that information because they don’t want it to interfere with any future canon content

@@MaibuwolfI would have done the same thing
@@DutchSimmer1like the Tales of Ba Sing Se, except with those characters you mentioned. Yeah, that would’ve been great to have

Suki is a side character, for sure. However, she could have developed more later. To me, it was bizarre that when the Kyoshi warriors came to visit, none of the gangs went and tried to greet them, especially Sokka. Sokka kept Suki as an afterthought the whole time. Minor counterpoints: I'd actually argue Suki ISN'T Sokka's first love, and that title actually goes to Yue. Discounting Su Yin (possibly), we don't see any of Sokka's kids IF he had any. It's entirely possible he and Suki just didn't have kids and he was embellishing to seem cooler, not purposefully hinting at them breaking up. It's also equally possible they DID break up as well.

Pretty fitting seeing Sokka is a water tribe citizen.

@@sebaschan-uwu Only common words have multiple meanings English does the same thing.
Agreed. Although, Katara and Aang being neglectful still hurts so much. Like soooo much, (cries dramatically)
@darkencat4082
Just because they didn't get married doesn't mean that they weren't still a romantic couple, and weren't still committed to one another. You don't have to marry your significant other.
@@Optimegatrongodzilla True, true. Just because they were both dedicated to something else (i.e: helping people) doesn't mean that what they had isn't wasn't as special. It also gives a comforting (in contrast to the current attitude on relationships) that just because you had something, then lost it along the way, that it doesn't mean what you had is any less then what somebody who goes through a fairy tale romance.

Since Tophs children don’t even own who their fathers are she could not have been married. Unless there were some secret marriages that ended soon tragically. It’s disappointing to me that Korra made Toph a person who would not even tell her kids who their fathers are.
i think suki is like asami from lok. She had the potential to become a real protagonist but most of the time was used for a love interest for one of the protagonists and their back story were really small

Suki is a round but static character you know a lot about her but nothing changes whenever you see her
Ever since I watched Korra my head cannon was that Sokka was Suyins father, and Toph never told him because shortly after Lins birth Toph and Kanto (Lins father) parted ways, possibly because of the stress of raising a child together, so when she had Suyin she;d pbably be worried about losing Sokka too, and that's why she never told him, and she kept it secret after his death so people wouldn't think he was an absent father
plusI think it kind of fits with Tophs personality, she's always been strong an independent, so of course she'd feel she could raise her kids on her own
Yes! Also idk if the timing fits but Sokka might've died soon before Su Yin was even born
@@Weteperepe both of these points are completely wrong.
Right. So a character whose entire arc revolves around his desire to live up to the example of his father is supposed to be a deadbeat dad? Some people will do anything to ship Tokka.

Heck Suki could have been purely just hallucinating Kyoshi in her moment of desperation, latching onto anything to give her hope and stability.
I am sure that isolation causes hallucinations and two weeks is plenty of time for that to happen.
The fact that Sokka dragged her into his mess, had her fix many problems him and his friends faced then ditched her after she wasn't useful anymore 😨

As an example Suki -> Leader of the kyoshi warriors + Friends with team Avatar
Ty lee-> Best Friend Mai + friends with zuko ->which makes her Friends with team Avatar + being a Member of the kyoshi Warriors who are friends with Team Avatar.
Suki its not „bitch”, its „bitchES” in polish. So when Azula with her friends dressed up as Kyoshi warriors and Sokka yelled „Thats Suki!”… yes, Sokka. Suki are coming.
😂
I wish she'd have joined earlier and been more included, bc rn when I think of the Gaang, she's more of an afterthought to me
In my opinion Suki was a member an honorary member of the gaang one because she did play apart of mentoring Sokka and in the final battle
Yeah....while watching Legend of Korra i was convinced that Sokka is one of Toph's baby daddies.....I still believe this to be true 🤷🏿♀️...
As a Soph/Tokka shipper, I see this as an absolute win

Suki is important to Team Avatar because she makes Sokka not be bitter, hard-headed, doubtful, sarcastic, and lacking self-esteem; I wonder without Iroh or Mai who that would be for Zuko, Aang?? Sokka?? Toph?? also Suki?? Katara?? All five of them??
the background music in this was AMAZING. like Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder while i'm listening to avatar is perfect ❤
I might be the biggest Suki simp but I like the idea of them breaking up, if that both explains her lack of screentime AND allows Sokka to slide into Toph's DMs. Because I'm also the biggest Sokka simp. That's bisexuality for ya
They never broke up if the only Avatar thing you watch is the original cartoon. The Gaang saved the world and lived happily ever after.
People who say Suki was an afterthought because she wasn’t mentioned in legend of Korra and that also means Azula Tylee, and may we’re also an afterthought
They were antagonists, so a tad different (even if Ty Lee always was positively potrayed her plot function was antagonist).
The comics take place over two years so would end when he is probably 19.
i could watch a whole series about Aang and Katara exploring the world, sounds like a writing challenge but those characters could carry a show.
I find it weird on how ppl get frustrated when the story doesnt end how they want. I chose to understand they end together. Even if they create a comic showing how they got separated, i will still rather have my version, because thats all it is: a history. Chose the one that makes you happy.
11:58 tell the truth and it more than what I see
Suki is just a really great character tbh. She’s the most memorable of the side characters for a reason.
Honestly wish that we got more of Suki after the Fire Lord’s defeat.

Suki's character is a warrior and always be. She's a lonewolf actually, who can't settle in a relationship. She comes and goes in team Avatar, plus she already has her own team
Had to chuckle when you asked not to skip a raid sponsored segment that we've all seen a 10000000 times before.

But i don't think sokka would cheat though
The details in this video are crazy. For example the like when showing the Instragram post
❤️
Im Polish and i watched only polish dubbing of avatar when i was like 13, they didnt change her name so it was weird for me and my friends to say that we like girl who literally is named "BITHES"
Omg I can't believe the universe is giving me avatar for my freaking birthday in two years 🥹
I think that Suki isn't on team avatar.
I always felt like she became part of the team in Book 3 and was a vital member, especially on the day they finally stopped the Fire Nation's reign of terror.
by that metric i'd consider iroh as team avatar, but i dont
@@xaevius5319I think it's pretty obvious what the difference is between them.
@@xaevius5319 He is though. He's like--well the wise Uncle of Team Avatar.
Not only in Polish - in Russian Suki means "bitchES" too ("bitch" would be Suka), so they called her Suyuki in dub :D
You're forgetting one important thing about Suki. She's the only conformation we got that our boi Sokka did not die a virgin
There is no confirmation, I don’t think some after show comments by creators matter. Unless it’s actually in some official work.
In Sokka’s Tales of Ba Sing Se section, he also flirted with the haiku class girls, despite alter saying to Tai Lee that he is kind of with Suki.
