Jay and Jen you two are an inspiration because of your dedication to living off grid and especially the time you also have a to dedicate to making Maple Syrup.
I remember 1 year on Mother's day we got a foot of snow in Midland County Michigan. My folks were coming home from Arizona that weekend and the day before it was 80. 😂😂😂 Gotta love it. ❤❤ Super cool watching the process of maple syrup. ❤
Wow guys what a long process to make maple syrup, most definitely is a labour of love, it’s liquid gold, glad nobody got burnt from the volcano, and the crazy weather, shorts and t-shirts one day and snow the next, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
Hi Jay & Jen, make a lid with a vent for the reducing tray, if it’s all about keeping heat in and evaporating water. It will reduce your cooking time 👍 why lose most of your heat through the area of your tray and burning wood in the process. I love your vids and wish you both well. Trying to help 👍
Oh gosh! I am truly sorry about your Maple mayhap. I'm glad the camera was off, it would have hurt my heart to see that mess after all that hard work! And knowing you have to clean it up! I can't even imagine how sticky that must have been. I'm glad you're having a good year. One guy I watch in W. Virginia didn't have a good year this year, which is sad because he sells his syrup on his website. He at least was able to make some Maple candy for his family. Great to see you guys, stay safe and GOD bless
I thought our season was going to be a flop as well....but then it turned cold and again and turned out to be a good one. Never know how it will go I guess
Hey again great to see the sap was running again very cool. Nothing like the taste of real Maple Syrup. A lot of work boiling it down but well worth the real stuff. Darn snow just does not want to leave its the same in Ontario. Well that sucks re the syrup incident . Well ya got er done Yay happy no explosions . She ya on the next one folks .
Wow that is a lot of Maple syrup we here in Ontario Canada haven’t had any snow since November thankgod but it’s been very cold here if I didn’t have diabetes I would be eating all my favourites sweets ( Jay did you get your sweet wife a birthday present again happy birthday Jen and many more here from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
Awesome guys! Love to see you always getting creative with the camera and getting better with time! Super cool and as always appreciate you giving us the honest “well this went wrong” because it might just save us a little headache down the road. Stay safe and keep being yourselves!❤
A half teaspoon of butter in each end of the sap boiler will get rid of foam and won't be tasted in the syrup. Any oil will do, but butter would probably have the least effect on taste.
Oh to have some homemade maple syrup, yum-yum!! I love making brown sugar with it plus it's good for pancakes and waffles. You guys should think about selling some one day, I would buy a couple jars from you.
Thank you for all your time and hard fun work. ... thanks for the contact too.. looking forward to hearing about the liquid gold.. ... thankfully live isn't 100% about money...
Hey awesome job you both to on making the syrup. I don't know about you both but I am done with winter on the other side of the great lake. Anyway stay safe and warm and and take care 😊
Jay and Jen I'm jealous. Had a bad season in NW New Jersey, only got 4.5 gallons of syrup this year. Glad your season is doing so great. You may want to use sap lines and central collection containers next year. Easier than walking up and down the hills. Our property is about same as yours. Went to line after the second year. Love the video.
Hey Jay and Jen. So after the maplecano, is the cabin going to have a maple smell for good! It will always smell like my favorite meal of the day, breakfast. It sure is a lot of work. Thanks much for the great video!
If you hadn't cleaned up the boil-over sap on the floor so quickly, you'd have safety non-slippery flooring! I know that was a LOT of work to clean it all up! Could be a continuous treat for the dogs if they like sweets, LOL.
I would like to know if you have any more syrup available for sale & could you let me know thank you for sharing you guys are doing great! I live in Oklahoma & I enjoy watching you guys 😊😊😊
Hey Shirley.....we should have some syrup for sale soon. We are collecting a list of people if you would like to buy some send us an email. Appreciate ya
One of my sons is a sapper. Last year he set up a reverse osmosis system for his home operation. He said that it cuts down boil time by about half. You might wabt to consider that for yourself next year. Not real pricey, just three under sink water filters. Happy Easter!
Watching you skim the foam off gave me an idea.....make a skimmer out of metal window screen that fits the width of the boiler. Doesn't have to be round, rectangular is better.😊
This is NOT A CRITICISM, but I don't understand why tapping the trees doesn't kill them. Isn't it the sap that brings nourishment to the upper branches of the trees? So, I guess I just don't understand how it works. By all means continue creating your maple syrup. I'm sure it's delicious!
Lol....he he ha ha. 🤣 I tapped almost double the trees this year. 30 trees and 2 taps per tree because the weather had me thinking it would be a short season.....I was wrong. Just finished batch 5 today
Not sure if you heard this but Canadian maple syrup ‘reserves’ have been almost completely drained this year - weather related. Don’t ask me where they keep ‘reserves’ - guess with individual suppliers. Anyway, your sap is gold right now!😍🇨🇦
It is pretty much good forever from what I have read.....as long as it it bottled correctly it is very similar to Honey....all sugar and low moisture content.
These are maple trees.....you an tap then in the spring, they drip sap into the buckets. You can boil the sap down and it removes the moisture and turns into maple syrup. 😊
We have never made sugar out of it, but we do use it in stuff that needs sugar or some sweetness as a substitute. We don't actually use that much syrup really, we have been giving it away for a few years to friends and family. Also we did a giveaway here on the channel to a few lucky subscribers.....which we are sending out soon. Also offering to sell it this year to anyone interested, as we enjoy making it and have extra.
The usual plus sometimes in coffee, any recipe that needs sugar, we have made it into marinade with other spices before too. Also use it for lots of gifts
You guys are rocking it this year with the mapleness!!!
😊 making it while we can 😊
Jay and Jen you two are an inspiration because of your dedication to living off grid and especially the time you also have a to dedicate to making Maple Syrup.
Looks delicious ❤ Hope you both had a wonderful Easter. Thank you for sharing ❤
All the ash from the fire's are good for the soil in your vegetable garden

Yay, I'm so happy that you have enough syrup to last you for a whole year.
Happy Easter ✝️ God Bless 🙏🏻 Appreciate you my friends
JAY, OMG, please use another piece of wood to hold those when you are chopping kindling!!! or lay it down and chop it from the side. SAFETY FIRST!!!
That’s the beauty of video you don’t have to talk all the time 😊I enjoy watching

Thanks....we have had enough of winter too
Have y’all thought about some farm animals in the future? You are both such an inspiration!❤❤
Awe....thank you. We love animals and might do some chickens at some point....notnsure about anything else. 😊 lots of gardening though
@@OffgridwithJayandJen Yes that’s a great idea! Chickens are Awesome!♥️👍
Awesome video and glad you were able to save some of that batch. I can only imagine how bad that must have been to see much less clean up.
Ya it was a bit of a pain in the you know what, lol
Sweet video!
Glad you enjoyed it

Nice....I have considered going to lines....but was unsure how crazy I wanted to get with it. Any tips I would be happy to hear them. 😊
Love how you are so for coming when you f. Up tell it how it is .

Hey Jay and Jen. So after the maplecano, is the cabin going to have a maple smell for good! It will always smell like my favorite meal of the day, breakfast. It sure is a lot of work. Thanks much for the great video!
Ha....it is likely yes, LOL
We all have that side to us. Great video Jay and Jen. Happy Easter to you both.
Very nice!!! You guys are master sugar bush tycoons by now. Lots of work but it will be so worth it throughout the year.
Woot woot
Jay love your videos and enjoy watching. May the lord bless and protect you and Jen and working the maple sap. Happy Easter to you
Lots of love my friend. Happy Easter
nice way of keeping the canned pop cool.
So very interesting… thank you for sharing.
Would it be OK if you had a grate in the bottom of the boiler that you could open to dump the ashes?😮
Wish I was really there hanging out with you. Would love it.
Keep on keeping on. You’ll have an overload of maple syrup when you’re done.
My understanding is only white buckets safe for food colored buckets have residue in the plastic.
No. Okay if they are ‘food grade’.
The color doesn't matter, as long as they say food grade or have the number 2 symbol and I think HDPE on them as well
'Happy Easter' love home made syrup
If you hadn't cleaned up the boil-over sap on the floor so quickly, you'd have safety non-slippery flooring! I know that was a LOT of work to clean it all up! Could be a continuous treat for the dogs if they like sweets, LOL.
Could have let the three jars go to maple candy. Just let it harden up.
I would like to know if you have any more syrup available for sale & could you let me know thank you for sharing you guys are doing great! I live in Oklahoma & I enjoy watching you guys 😊😊😊

Then how/where do you dump it?
Ha.....have been trying to think of something like that too lol

Something (sap)py about this video.😊
How many trees did you tap? Was it more than last year?
Wishing you the best of success with this year's harvest.
Lol....he he ha ha. 🤣 I tapped almost double the trees this year. 30 trees and 2 taps per tree because the weather had me thinking it would be a short season.....I was wrong. Just finished batch 5 today
It all good jay we all get mad sometimes but don't make u bad guy lol😂
Kinda like watching paint dry? ❤ 😊 15:20
The sap is really running!
Oh ya
what was the gravity reading?
We boil it to about 219 degrees and the hydrometer reads about 65 or 66 brix I think.
loved the video !
Thank you my friend. Hope your spring is treating you well

No worries, guys, I am guilty of saying a few bad words myself when things go wrong. I still love you guys , you are human !! ❤️
Huh.....good to know 😊👍
Looks good! What's the shelf life for fresh maple syrup?
It is pretty much good forever from what I have read.....as long as it it bottled correctly it is very similar to Honey....all sugar and low moisture content.
Jay saving money to buy some maple syrup for my husband
Very nice......send us an email if you haven't yet. Jen will get your info and put you on the list
What are these water buckets?
These are maple trees.....you an tap then in the spring, they drip sap into the buckets. You can boil the sap down and it removes the moisture and turns into maple syrup. 😊
Work those Maple trees !!
😊👍
Do you ever make maple sugar?
I have not
Ever sĺip on those leaf covered slopes and spill a bucket? 😮 😅
Yes, lol
Great video! Do you keep all the syrup for yourself or give some away? Also, do you ever make sugar out of it?
We have never made sugar out of it, but we do use it in stuff that needs sugar or some sweetness as a substitute. I typically make the pancakes and Jen makes the French toast 😋
♥️New Subscriber!😊
Woot woot....welcome
OMG, you're going to lose a finger making kindling that way. If only you had a safer kindling specific tool... 😉
Lol......ha I think this was before we picked up the mail from our box buddy. Now I have to find a good spot to mount that bad boy. 👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
🤗❤❤✌
🖐😎👍
🇳🇴👍👍👌
For it to be 100% pure maple syrup you have to boil down using only sugar maple firewood from kindling to splits.
Why
Says who?
Lol.....that's a first 😊
