The Most Brutal Beast of German Warfare

  • After over 40 years, Germany is finally bringing more firepower to its tanks program.
In 2022, Rheinmetall Defense unveiled its bold new creation: the Kettenfahrzeug 51, a lightweight tank expected to set new standards in lethality, survivability, and mobility.
Also known as the Panther, the main battle tank is bristling with all the most up-to-date technology in the market, including a much larger main gun, a digital computer backbone, and a state-of-the-art suite of defensive features.
After stunning more than one at a military hardware show in Europe's Eurosatory defense exhibit, the tank prompted much speculation and controversy, leaving many to wonder if it will replace Germany's current tank arsenal, if it will be used only for exports, or even if such a tank is needed at all in today’s world…

Just something to add here: The first country showing interest in the new Panther is Ukraine.
Rheinmetall is in talks with Kyiv about building a tank factory in Ukraine, after Kyiv showed big interest in Rheinmetall's new MBT.
And not only is Ukraine interested in the new Panther, but in the Lynx as well. German & Ukrainian media reported this a while ago already.
Furthermore: "The armaments group Rheinmetall is negotiating the construction of a tank factory on Ukrainian soil. "A Rheinmetall plant can be built in Ukraine for around 200 million euros," company boss Armin Papperger told the Rheinische Post newspaper. It could produce up to 400 Panther-type main battle tanks annually. The talks with the Ukrainian government are »promising«. Papperger hoped for a decision "within the next two months." "
Should I add that Rheinmetall also stated that the factory's defence against Russian attacks via rocket and drone strikes would not be that big of a problem?

I have often said in discussions about "autoloader vs human loader" in the last 3 decades that if they ever introduce a autoloader to the Leopard 2 or the Abrams, they should still keep the 4th crew man, because having that 4th crew man has many benefits besides the need for a loader. My position has always been that reducing the number of crewman would overall mean a weakening of the tank weapon and tank units.
So when I heard that the KF51 will get a autoloader but will still retain a place for a 4th crewman, I was pleasantly surprised.

As of now Russia is the reincarnation of Nazi Germany and China definitely isn't a friendly peace loving nation either. The only way for NATO to counter future Russian qnd Chinese hostilities is by being one step ahead of them when it comes to military technology. 2nd As for the weight thanks to new materials and APS we will see weight reductions but it will depend on whether it is a 1st line MBT or a light MBT for expeditionary units.

What's transformative here is the drone operator position coupled with the speed and all terrain nature of the platform.
The logical extension of these capabilities is to lose the turret and shift the vehicle to an armored self propelled artillery system, without losing speed or all-terrain capability. The mass-savings of losing the turret would be made up with a longer range gun, and an expanded drone bay capable of launching multiple drones and landing them. The result would be a hyper agile artillery system
that carries along its own artilery spotters in the form of drones dynamically launched and retrieved in situ. It wouldn't need the turret because it would be designed to operated at longer ranges from the enemy in a chaotic battlefield without fixed lines. The mission profile would be a mechanized-cavalry-gun that can sprint behind enemy positions to engage their rear supply areas at range and then retreat faster than any responses. If it did find itself in close quarter combat with enemy forces it would rely upon the heavier machine gun and smart munitions, analogous to the switchblade drone, launched from the main gun that could target opponents despite the fact that they were not launched in the correct direction from the turret-less gun.

The sources I can find indicate that the weight of the Abrams Ser 3 quited absoluteli includes the tanks cannon. Addition of Trophy ADS woukld add 2.5 U.S. tons. That is for the planned future. What source supports your claims that the current Sep 3 is 73.6 U.S. Tons without the tank's cannon? What main systems are actually not included in the 73.6 Ton weight?

2:10 The Leopard 2 wasnt "a 1980s contemporary american M1 Abrams tank vehicle", it was a derivative of the MBT-70 or KPz 70 which was a tank project originally between the USA and the Federal Republic of Germany, both tanks derivating from the project (Leopard 2 & M1 Abrams) were in design diffrent.
The Leopard 2 is not a M1 Abrams tank vehicle!

Well, I think we are witnessing how important tanks still are and will be in the future. I like the new "Panthe" and I hope it won't take too long to make it a reliable system. I wonder if Rheinmetall are planning to develop a new "Tiger" as well. They should refrain from building tanks with names of very small animals like "Maus"! 😆
    EDIT: "Panther"!!!

    • @williamzk9083
      @williamzk9083 Год назад

I think it needs one modification. The propulsion system should be hybrid battery electric so that the system is more fuel efficient, can operate silently for short distances or startup without infrared signature or noise. The 30mm gun on the XM-1 is a good idea as it gives an anti drone capability.
