    I own a 2013 Sportage Diesel 6 speed auto and must say it has far exceeded my expectations. I see 7.8 litres per 100 k's in a range of small city and country driving in Tassie. I did add a throttle position controller which made a huge improvement to responsiveness. Its a car I have recommended to others. I would imagine the 2021 Diesel would be a great buy.

    Just got our GT-line 1.6T and I have to say that it is really impressive. As far as the DSG goes, we are used to driving VW with DSG’s and I do not understand his comments about the gearbox we find it copes with most driving without an issue. I have only got it to be indecisive once and that was by when turn at an intersection I floored it and it took the DSG a couple a second to get into the right gear. When I took that same corner and just accelerated normally the change was seamless and instantaneous. Like every DSG I have driven, if it needs to change down multiple gears, like go from 5th to 2nd, it does take longer that an automatic however normal changes are so smooth that unless you look at the tachometer or shift indicator you will not know that it has happened.
    We originally ordered the diesel however when the dealer informed us that delivery would be Q4 2022 and that they had a Red 1.6T due late Jan we decided we would go with that on basis that it was subject to a test drive. We found it not quite a punchy as the diesel but still quite adequate for our needs. It was quieter which only highlighted the only issue we have found even more and that is tyre noise. We live in the country so most of the roads are crushed rock which generally create tyre noise with most tyres. Will be interesting to see how noisy they are on bitumen. BTW the tyres are Hankook which based on reviews are rated as quiet. They can come with Nexen which are supposed to be. quite noisy.

      I'm currently deciding between Rav4 Hybrid and the Sportage SX+ 1.6l DCT( Cant justify the extra $6k to go to GT). With your turning the corner gear change lag, would that delay have been eliminated if you had used the paddle shifters to drop a gear or two at the first sign of gearbox hesitation or would it still lag even with paddle shifters overriding the auto gear selection?
      I'm currently driving a 2015 Mazda 3 SP25 and find that 2 quick flicks of paddle shifters drop the gears quick enough that there's no obvious hesitation when I feel like driving it more aggressively and I can flick the paddles whilst in full auto mode ( don't have to move shift knob to M mode) and they over ride the auto selected gear temporarily and then reverts back to auto mode soon after.
      Does the Sportage paddles also override when in normal drive mode or do you need to select it before using paddles?

    We bought the new Tucson Highlander with the same engine and gearbox.. my initial thoughts of the gearbox were same as yours, great when up and running, but very jerky on start and around town. Had its 1500k check up during the week, and a software upgrade, which has transformed the gear change. It’s much much smoother now. Hyundai have recalibrated the gear change as far as I can tell. Much happier.

    So... to those new here, we bought the SX model with the basic 2.0L petrol engine and 6-speed auto. So - a bit different to the (gorgeous) GT-Line. We test drove the base-model S, too. Here's a couple of thoughts on the lower-spec Sportages (where most of us will probably buy):
    - The 2.0L engine has been described elsewhere as underpowered. It's not underpowered - it's just not powerful, either. It doesn't get unpleasantly loud around town or on the freeway, you have no trouble picking up gaps in traffic or accelerating onto the freeway, no problems with holding the limit while going up a hill. It won't blow you away from the lights, but it's fine for most drivers.
    - The 6-speed auto is pretty good, to be honest. It does downshift quickly and smoothly, especially in Sport mode.
    - The SX is well worth the extra $2.5k over the top of the basic S. The multimedia system in the S looks grainy and cheap, and the touchscreen that replaces it in the SX blows it into the weeds, plus the interior trim is much nicer. Throw in the front parking sensors - no more front-end scrapes -, a better reversing camera display, and a couple of other goodies like climate control, and if you can stretch to the SX, do it.
    - The car handles extremely well for a big unit. The steering is too light, but it noses in well, grips nicely, and hauls its heft around corners with a fair amount of control and precision.
    - The one thing I really dislike in the S and SX (as well as the SX+) is the instrument readout. Just a numerical readout of your revs and speed - it looks cheap and dated, and is not as user-friendly as a dial and needle either.
    - As Paul mentions, the ride is so well controlled, and the visibility is great barring the A-pillar. It's just an easy, easy car to drive.
    - The boot is huuuuuge for a mid-size SUV.

      Thanks for the review mate, what’s fuel consumption like so far and Your thoughts on the turbo diesel vs the NA 2.0 litre.

    • @jeremybean-hodges6397
      @jeremybean-hodges6397 2 года назад

      @@7amido12 Fuel consumption isn't great in the 2.0l - it's roughly 11 to 12 L/km in urban traffic. I didn't drive the diesel, but the 2.0L is adequate. Not brilliant, but adequate. If I were driving long distances, doing any towing or I really liked driving a powerful car, I'd go the diesel.

    • @jeremybean-hodges6397
      @jeremybean-hodges6397 Год назад +2

      @@vilfredcorrea2089 it’s been fantastic for us.
      We are really glad we got the SX. The upgrade in reverse camera quality, interior trim and the addition of the parking sensors have been very worthwhile. I also didn’t realise how great split climate control was till I got it.
      I would consider the diesel if I drove long distances or fully laden regularly. We re driving on the highway as I type (from the passenger seat) and at 110kmh it’s doing 2,200 revs. Would be nicer in the diesel. Makes very little difference around town though
      It’s very very composed over bumps - a very comfortable car.
      And yes, the piano black now looks filthy ;)

    I wasn't a huge fan of the new Kia logo but I've started seeing it more and more on the new cars here in South Africa and it does make it look a lot more premium with that machined metal type finish, so it has really grown on me. I also really like that new scale pattern/texture that you find on the models, it stands out while not being overdone and overpowering. Really loving the new Kia design language

    Took 8 months but got mine on Friday. Have to say im pretty impressed. Got the turbo diesel and has plenty of punch when necessary. Was suprised how loud it is outside of the car but never owned a turbo diesel inside the cabin its silent as expected but very easy to look down and be doing 70 in a 50-60 zone. The remote drive is a nice novelty to freak your mates out. Pretended it was voice activated whilst remote was in my pocket haha but not sure how practical or when it would ever be needed. The only thing i cant say i like is the piano black inside. Leaves fingerprints everywhere but outside of that the car is magnificent.

    We've just ordered a Gravity Grey GT Line Diesel. Originally looking at the 1.6T in the Sportage as well as the new Outlander. The Outlander looks great on the outside but the Sportage kicks it out of the school yard in just about every other way so, Sportage it is. Went for the diesel due to better availability and we were sitting on the fence anyway. In regard to the 'Sounds of Nature' - the SX and above have it as standard. Great review but didn't really look at the sunroof or the little touches like the touch sensitive LED interior lights etc...but minor details...

We also bought an LX model (literally the only thing we could get at the time.) The DCT will shift slower when you're in the 'normal' drive mode. DCTs are not epicyclic automatics, so don't drive them like one; if you need to overtake, flick a paddleshift, or just don't be impatient, expecting a family SUV to drive like a Porsche.
    Fix the driver, not one of the best transmissions ever fitted to a mainstream passenger vehicle which saves you 6% in fuel over a regular auto (which you did praise for its 5.0L/100km consumption).

But, I think this will be a great Family car! I absolutely love the interior and exterior, I'm all for that styling. The tech and safety is impressive, I particularly love piano black, my current car has a lot of it (I just quickly polish it with a sunglass cloth) As for the seats though, I'm a bit let down because the overseas models have that nice quilted look - And the Australian model has boring seats (in my opinion) I would have much preferred the quilted design. Great review Paul. Great review and I was similarly impressed with the GT Line Diesel when I test drove it at the dealership back in November 2021. So much so that I put an order in there and then!
    Since then the Sportage has gone on to win the Drive car of the year and best in class for medium SUV.
    Unfortunately this is about as good as naming the unicorn as pet of the year because the chance of actually owning one is proving just as difficult!
    After months of patient waiting, knowing about chip shortages and covid production delays I called the dealership in April. They knew nothing and put referred me onto Kia Australia. They also knew nothing but advised they would contact Kia Manufacturing in South Korea. The response… my car hasn’t even been set for manufacture yet!?!?!?
    Is this the experience of others waiting on a GT Line? I see plenty of new Sportages on the road (mostly S Lines).
    Most frustrating they are still hammering the advertising for the Sportage which after my experience seems almost a breach of some type of Australian consumer law????

    Hi Paul good review. I was looking at the RAV 4 hybrid initially, but after much research I decided to go for the Kia Sportage GT Diesel as it just kicks the RAV 4 in every department maybe except fuel economy. In saying that the Diesel model is very economic to run also and over a 10 year period you may save $4K with the RAV on fuel, however I am not going to have to change the batteries for probably 10K in 10 years time (5K now) so in terms of economics there is no difference and Kia maybe even more economic over the long term. Probably now Toyota will have to lift their game in a quality interior with some decent tech and some decent LED lights.
