    Any drag radial will work fine when brand new in the rain. It's when they wear even a little that things get hairy. Don't drive in the rain or have another set of rims ready for the rain if it's a daily driver.

  • @pdiz
    @pdiz 3 года назад +2

    Thanks for this. This is the tire I was gonna run daily on my (genuine) Demon wheels, and I only chose it because of the wet-weather characteristics. (Even though I'm in Southern California, I'm just a little paranoid of getting caught in the rain...)

    From watching your previous video plus this one I ordered nt555r2, there isn’t any videos on them that I’ve noticed so your in depth convo on them helped me decided. Thx! keep up the great content.

    Thanks for the Nt555RII update. Glad to hear they work better in the wet. I've never had an issue with the old NT555r in the wet but I also drive mellow when caught in the rain. I'm sure a set of these will be in my future in about 18 months or so. Hopefully they change up some of the sidewall design by then. After tucking your wheel well liners have you had any further issues with rubbing due to the 555RII being a little wider?

  • @281shaker
    @281shaker 6 месяцев назад

    I have around 30,000 miles on a couple of sets of the original 555R and with 540 whp, I have had no big surprises, waiting for some new 555RII right now - so, good to know. If it rains, I slow down and drive like there is an egg under my foot. Honestly, with this much RWD HP, I wouldn't trust any tire in the rain.

    Do not let this video be the end all for driving drag radials or slicks in the rain. You will be very surprised when these wear down, you will fishtail above 30mph without throttle. Slicks, mickey thompsons streets ss/r's, nt05rs will catch you off guard. Have a spare set of wheels or pull off too the side.

      Absolutely! I feel like, as long as you are mindful of the conditions that you're driving in, you should be fun with these tires. That being said, they are not the best in terms of traction. I would argue that they are a good compromise of traction and safety. They weren't awesome at the drag strip, not awesome on the street but did perform very well in the wet weather for what they are. In other words, if you have a high horsepower car that you take on road trips, as I do, this is a great tire for that purpose

      @@bmasontv cool. Thanks for your response,,,,,, would it be safe to say these tires are going to be the next best step up ,,,from the average summer tire,,,,,for your average pulls on the street rolling on at like 40,,,50,,,60 mph,,,,,

      @@josephcastellano8350 I would agree with that statement. Check out my videos where I'm hitting it from a roll from 40 50 60 miles per hour. Also have me hitting it from a dig. Those vodeos should give you an idea for how these tires will react.

    You don’t notice a difference because your not stupid most people don’t realize there mistakes when they’re driving in the rain I.e giving to much throttle at some places and people throw drag radials on and that’s when those little mistakes start to show

    Have you tried doing actual brake tests on the wet roads? Say if you had to suddenly slam on the brakes for an emergency. Of course In a safe environment not around other vehicles.

    • @bmasontv
      @bmasontv  4 года назад +1

      Not really, ABS is going to jump in and start doing a pretty good job of mitigating anything that the rear end is going to try to do in a breaking situation. Especially when you consider that you're dealing with wet weather traction conditions. Given how they handled in the rain, and keep in mind if you notice I'm passing cars in the left-hand Lane in that video. I'm surprised nobody's even brought that up. But they handle just fine and I doubt that there would be any difference between those drag radials and a set of All Seasons or summer Tires in the same condition

    Hi Brian...So it's been about 1-3/4 years now. How is the mileage doing on the tire and was this a 18 or 20 all 4-corners or just rears? Thanks

    • @bmasontv
      @bmasontv  2 года назад

      Only the rears, and although I don't really look at mileage with this car I would say they've lasted for about 5,000 miles. Also, to answer your question about cat over temp, look at your fuel air enrichment Max table. That will tell you what it will add to your power in Rich table in cat over temp mode.

      @@bmasontv Yep...Just like you said 8.6 AFR. How did you know that or better yet how would I have known this? You were also right that before I get to the end of the 1/8 mile track I'm above the 1749 F + 32 F COT enabled temp. Should I be looking at the EQ Commanded PID which I believe is actually Lamdba instead of EQ to see the affect?

    Hello, have a question unrelated but since your very knowledgeable on the Hemi engine just wanted to get your opinion on something that's driving me nuts. If I don’t warm the car up for at least 5 minutes the next cold start the lifters chatter for a few seconds. If I drive the car and its fully warm the next cold start is quiet . Any Ideas why this could be happening.

      B Mason This is my third oil change which I do myself. Tried three major brands of synthetic oil. The only common is the Mopar oil filter. I just purchased the SRT oil filter which I’ll install on my next oil change. Purchased the car new and now have 12k miles and it doesn’t burn any oil. Could it be the oil is still to thin and drains back?
