I love how you showed the simplicity of this. Thank you. This is the first video I've watched on removing carpet and you seemed like someone I could relate to so I followed along to learn "How-to," THANKS!
I LOVE how you configured the dining!! I love how you kept that one bench (for underneath storage and great for miller's high chair) Thanks for posting the reno, this was before you all headed out so it's nice to see it all before the fun started!
I started ripping out my travel trailer's slide out carpet and half way through I figured I better watch a video to find out how to replace the flooring and I'm so glad I found your video!
staggering isnt something you do for appearance, its for stability... you should have also started in the front and put your cut pieces closest to the wall. not bad for 1st timers though
Great job. I don't like carpet that is permanently installed in the RV. I prefer all vinyl flooring and I can use a throw rug if need be. Thumbs up. Stay safe, Lou.
Would love to hear from you about how the dowel to measure the slide-out clearance works for you. After thinking about it, I'd just measure the deepest slide and add a few inches for extra insurance, then, all the slides should be good to go, e.g., deepest slide is 15 inches, I'd make the dowel about 18-20 inches.
My biggest concern besides as others have pointed out here on not staggering the flooring is that you used home grade vinyl plank which has a lot of expansion and shrinkage so it's not recommended in rv use which often see temp differences of 80° + -. Hopefully you left expansion gap around the edges? The small area probably helped as the expansion, contraction would be less.
So was gonna do this to ours but was worried about the carpet over hanging since i am pretty sure it helps the slide from going in and out from friction did you guys notice any scratching in the area you removed?
Looks nice but would have loved to see how you trimmed it out. Ours is a level floor slide floor and not sure how that would work as well, but think I would have started in the front and worked to the wall to have a whole piece up front.
@Family Fulfillment Project Your floor looks great! Happy New Year btw (2024). I need to change out my flooring in my RV, I just hate my carpet. I want to change it to the tongue and groove floor panel (like you have). Although, I have heard that this style is not stable. When the RV is moving, some of the panels may move or get displaced. Have you encountered that problem? One more thing, what thickness is your flooring? When the slide comes in and out and the flooring is too thick, it will scratch the new floor and make groves into it. Any input would be much appreciated. .... Rick
I’ve watched numerous videos of these flooring replacements BUT I have yet to find ONE that tells you how to get the flooring under the slide HOW did you do this?? Mine barely has any space for removing old or putting in new. Does not use rollers it slides in and up on two plastic cubes screwed to the subfloor.
I don’t remember how long it took us but it lasted until we sold the rv and we bought a motorhome and did the exact same thing on that one and we would do it again with another rig!
It's a pity that they can not have the slide outs drop down when out and be flush with the floor of the RV and lift up to clear RV floor when travelling in now that would be cool!!
I hope you are calling this a 'look what we done' instead of a how to. The joints in the lvt NEED to be offset- the floor as a unit gains strength from the next rigid panel (tile) and helps it be prevented from buckling and walking. The substraight CANNOT be too flexible or the locking mechanism on the tiles will break. Fyi, when mobile home and camper mnf'erers lay vinyl, they have a platform and do the WHOLE floor. It is much less expensive and they have enough layouts (floor plans) that it isn't worth going around cutting around the cabinets, ect. They simply put little mouldings to cover the gap against the floor.
What size dowel did you put in the gap between the slide and floor? I recently took my carpet out of the whole camper except for the area where the slides are because I was always concerned about the gap. How has it held up so far?
It was a 1/4 to 1/2 inch dowel, just depends on the angle in your rig. We lived in the trailer for 7 months, traveled all over the United States and its still looks great!
Loved this video! We are debating when is the right time to replace our Class C's Carpet with flooring. Really appreciated this video for some digital courage!!! Thanks guys and keep the videos coming! Hopefully we will share our own flooring Rv video soon :D
seriously WHY DO THEY EVEN USE CARPET I have a 5th wheel that has the same thing so Thanks for sharing your video because I am going to do the same !! Great Job BTW I guess you are no rookie anymore once done and completed you are an expert now LOL !!!
My question is, "What idiot decided that carpets belong in RV's??" Things will spill, and carpet holds water. That will cause rot of the underlayment -- which is usually plywood. I think linoleum, or vinyl, or even a real wood floor. Since the wood is exposed, liquids are easy to clean up, or it will evaporate quickly. PLUS, IMO, wood or wood laminate looks a lot better.
i love your videos you guys always make me smile, your all so patient and have so much fun with your kids and there all so cute omg so dang cute miller i just wanna eat him up his smile wow well anyways you guys are awesome keep up the great work love to follow along with you all. to freedom nancy
If you can break in your home that easy just think how quick a thief could get in... So use it as a learning lesson ALWAYS be sure to close and lock all windows and doors... We learned the hard way $35,000.00 worth of jewelry and stuff stolen and $4,000.00 in cash the insurance covered 75% of everything stolen but not the cash.... Hard lesson learned... Be blessed... BBE..
You screwed into your slide, used duct tape, and no plan for your transition, in addition to creating buckle points by not staggering? You do realize that staggering only takes cutting your first piece right? Why would you say it's easy to do, when you have no clue how to do it?
bon vivant we traveled and lived in it full time for 7months driving over 25,000 miles and the floors have been fantastic, no buckling, no issues at all.
Will humans every advance to the point where they're intelligent enough to use a cell phone camera in the landscape position? As in 16:9? Probably not...
haha 😂 we made the video for instagram that's why it was filmed up and down BUT give us a chance 👋 after 100 plus videos I think we finally figured it out 😉
@@Nadine4266 Define "emotional intelligence". Are you saying that the degree of intellect controls the display of emotions? Or are you using the word "emotional" as an adjective? You probably got this from one of those New Age TV preachers.
Leon Allan Davis here you go: noun the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. "emotional intelligence is the key to both personal and professional success"
You are going to probably regret not staggering the seams. Even on a stationary structure, you ALWAYS STAGGER seams. ALWAYS. This "structure" has to endure an earthquake every time you pull it.

Glad I could help!

My goodness, Ben, the flooring job looks terrific! Giving some expansion room is a very good idea, too.

Any concerns about the added weight of the flooring and the joints coming undone while the RV is in motion?

Nice job!! When do you want to do mine!!!LOL🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
Love this video. You could have staggered them just as easily
100% we should have. But after year and years they never moved!
Vinyl instead odd carpet is the bomb. However I would have set back the slide edge of vinyl and used a beveled transition piece along that edge!
...were there any slide rollers in this slide? Thanks
Looks great! Well done. 👍 And love the bonus B&E footage at the end. 😂 We’ve all been there, done that!

Most people leave it. Rv companies use the carpet to help slide the hideout. The older ones that don't have rollers anyway.
From beginning to end, how long did it take you and would you do anything different? Looks great!
That would be AMAZING!
ROBERT BUTLER they do on some models! I forget what that’s called but it’s a thing!!
Good job, turned out really nice. Can't wait to hear an update on how it's working out so far.
all vynil is easier to clean thanks for the tips
Thanks so much. My new projecr
Have fun!
How did you get the carpet out from under the overhang part from the slide out?
Pull very hard!
Very good!!!!
We are trying to replace the flooring in our RV and can't get the carpet our from under the slideout. How did you do it?
We just pulled really hard and it popped out on both of our slide floor replacements (trailer and Motorhome) ruclips.net/video/hCB-jy2EBMk/видео.html
fantastic carpentry work, Ben. Seems as if you may have done this before. For Beca, great home invasion skills. ;) LOL. :D
I think you guys did a very good job!!💖
I hope I'm seeing that incorrectly. Do your seems line up?
lol at the beginning
How did you secure the 1/4” support piece under the lip?
I hope you are calling this a 'look what we done' instead of a how to.

And after this renovation how the slide keeps working?
2 years later and it still looked brand new!
Family Fulfillment Project yeah but how it’s working or sliding? It’s dragging?
seriously WHY DO THEY EVEN USE CARPET I have a 5th wheel that has the same thing so Thanks for sharing your video because I am going to do the same !! Great Job BTW I guess you are no rookie anymore once done and completed you are an expert now LOL !!!
Looks great! Did you have to secure the new flooring to you subfloor with anything like glue etc?
YOU E GOOD AT SKINNING A MOOSE GIRL,,LOL

Did you nail the plywood down??
Nvm mind I asked before watching the whole video
"
I clicked on this video, watched the first 15 seconds and clicked off. Some people shouldn’t be allowed to post to YT.
Totally agree.
Invest in a real phone and ditch the Obama phone
😂😂
staggering is crucial, you will not notice it anymore after some weeks... this is terrible.
it's actually held up perfectly after years of travel. 👍

Leon Allan Davis emotional intelligence is what matters.
