The “snow” could be a reference to marine snow, or the constant rain of detritus from the upper layers of the ocean that rain down onto the ocean floor. While a reminder of constant death, this marine snow also provides sustenance and keeps the deep creatures - like anglerfish - alive.

Spoo Dadoo Maybe the angler fish got there as the result of a massive flux of reality resulting in the same kind of unstable black hole that sent Robert Scranton to The Red Reality. Whether the result of a civilization from its home realm messing with powers beyond their capabilities or because of a dimension warping disaster, it resulted in the Town under the lantern in the void.

When in darkness one often finds themselves consumed by fear and a sense of hopelessness. But in every void of darkness is a glimmer of light of sanctuary that shines of hope, a sense of inspiration and a warming comfort. A sanctuary that one would seek and embrace without questioning how it came to be, because in the end when one is lost in the darkness, knowing that there is a light within the void is all that matters.
I mean, this is obviously allegorical. There's a pretty consistent theme here: People tend to go to that place hoping to solve the mystery of the void or be inspired by it. Those who managed to survive there are the ones who gave up on that and, perhaps intuitively, stop paying attention to the void and focus on the community. The rest become obsessed, unstable and end up killing themselves in their attempts to get close to the nothingness. The lantern is described as a beacon, then revealed to be a lure, which is sort of the same thing depending on what you find when you get there. Though dead, the angler fish still lures people out into the darkness to die - poets, artists and even researches. They're ones who aren't content with leaving well enough alone, the dreamers who seek meaning even to the point of self-destruction. But the fish also serves as a home for the people who only really want that - a home. Fun fact: Highly artistic/creative individuals are statistically more likely to suffer from mental and emotional disorders than other people (which leads to more substance abuse as well) and brilliant people in general tend towards eccentric personalities. Now consider Lamplight with that in mind. 5005 is simply a little world in the middle of nothing, where some find a comfortable haven while others can't function, their minds rebelling against the infinite, inexplicable emptiness surrounding them.

Alpha Primus It is a nice reminder that not ALL SCPS are about something that destroys or threatens all of humanity and a very interesting article nonetheless.
It's interesting to contrast between this and the Three Portlands setting, which I found ridiculous. This one is so much more alien, yet instead of having a Golem-Maker's Union and an Interdimensional Thaumatology College treated as if they were mundane realities, here we have a setting that matter-of-factly mentions other universes while discussing architectural influences. There difference in approach is quite staggering, and I like this one a lot.
''you won't solve anything, because there's nothing to solve'' this Lumiere phrase to the Foundation agent really fascinates me. The Foundation is all about research, and artists and philosophers do dedicate themselves a lot to the big questions about life. But, there isn't much to discover about it. Existence is absurd, almost as absurd as a city build on the back of a giant anglerfish floating in the void. And yet, we are capable of atribute meaning to things. Interesting that you decided to end the video with a Nietzsche quote, many attribute him the label of nihilist, but he actually fought nihilism as a sickness of modernity. He instead proposed that we overcome nihilism, by taking control of our lives and giving existence the meaning we wanted. Those in Lamplight seems to be a reflection of this dilemma, with some devoting themselves to life in community and creative passion, and those obsessed with the void. To the latter, the ones that go into the void in search of a purpose they could not find... They get exactly the answer they already had deep inside, and fade into nothingness. It might not be a apocalyptic SCP in the literal sense like others are, but it certainly is in the matters of the inner struggle inside the human soul, of existing in a universe that it's cold and absurd, and having the will to live a life to the fullest by giving by ourselves, as a community, purpose were it is none. at least that's one interpretation the night does not give easy answers but, as discomforting it might be, if it did, what lamps would be left to lit?
At first I thought this SCP was an adult version of Lantern Waste from Narnia. Now I'm thinking it's a modern version of Valinor, with a somewhat withered Silver Tree casting light over it.
@@commandermcnash5137 ...and the giant gas ball is basically an eldritch horror by description, it screams, flails wildly, has no emotions or cares, people used to sacrifice to it (and possibly still do, but unlikely).
I know that this channel's coverage of SCP doesn't usually extend to tales or series of tales, but I have to recommend the Pitch Haven series that connects to 2746, because it's honestly super interesting to me, and may *actually* give answers as to what the Foundation discovered during the events of 5000 that drove them to sympathize with 682 Also, it hardly fits the format for the channel, but 5011 was also pretty fun to read and go through
hellothisismufin I guess it would be interesting to see him cover another one of the numerous canon timelines. I’ve heard of The Pitch Haven series but never got around to checking it out or figuring out what SCPS or tales are connected to it.

Its basically a big snow globe which is a home away from home for people who have lost a sense of home , like looking at a snowglobe and imagining living in it away from all your wordly troubles
The whole multiple universe and different earth talk reminds me of the infinite IKEA. I’d love to learn more about this world or future, and new futuristic SCPs and what happened to older SCPs, especially those that posed an end of the world class scenario
Arie Acevedo Well they both revolve around something from another reality existing in a void where nothing is meant to exist or be able to survive in it. Maybe Robert Scranton somehow found a way to Lamplight and was able to restore his body and get back to Anna. Maybe someone will write a tale about it.
@@undeadprinceofchaos3731 Canon in the SCP universe is what you make of it. If that's what you personally believe makes for a compelling story, then for you it's true.
This one is so beautiful, and it’s connection to the mechanics mentioned in the red reality are so beautifully done. The comparison between the two, one of a single person losing themself over just a few years in darkness alone with only a single light, against a community of people living under one light together in the darkness, is such a striking and beautiful comment on the way people need each other no matter where I’m the world, the universe, or even the multiverse they come from. We could be farther from everything than anyone’s ever been, but as long as we have each other and we can create things, we can still live happily, so long as we keep our eyes on each other under what dim light we’ve been gifted.
Is it just me or is this kind of an allegory for the wiki itself? New people obsessed with the popular dark and scary stuff (106, 075, 231 etc) but never sticking around to experience the community that really makes it shine
"The expanse is revealed as the corpse of an augmented Harkhretian anglerfish" feels so much like something out of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Bro, what if they could find others like this or engineer something using this. They could make void cities, void crafts that can travel across it. Hell, they could see if beyond their universes there is more!!
IMO the reveal of the anglerfish is more than enough to be mind-blowing, without needing more than that. I still have so many questions, and it's okay that they don't get answers.
I know where i want to go where i die. Lamplight. Tell them to burn a light in a small room, warm and cozy, full of old books...My darling, I will find you there.

I think this is about the SCP Universe itself, in a meta way. People in the internet both coming for and being obsessed with the void and darkness and mystery of the SCP Universe... but only a few finding out the magic and community and the culture, the small yet steady light, and the little warmth that can be found there.
Another quality vid. Keep it up TES. You opened up my interest in Lovecraft and SCP and you don't know how wonderful it's been to read and listen about these.
This is a beautiful telling of this article and I enjoy SCPs like this. If every SCP was another monster or world ending event it would get stale but these ones help those SCPs keep their punch and also humanizes the whole setting. Very good work.
Even at the edge of all there is. A song will still be sung. A fire will still be lit. A hand will still be held. Existence is not a choice. But the fact that you exist is beautiful. And thus, should be celebrated.
Love the stuff you're doing. I can't get enough of it. If you need any ideas, a cool video might be about the members of The Foundation. Everyone knows the Bright family, but there's a few other reoccurring members that would make a good video.
This gentle and subdued SCP wasn't written for most of the people who read SCPs, and I think that's great. I would love to read more unique SCPs about the ephemeral and quaint aspects of the unexplained.
I love SCP's such as this one it realise on more existential style then the horror or all knowing aspect of most SCP's. I utterly love this I am so grateful you covered it.
Ramirez's choice of residence reminds me of a Shel Silverstein gag about a tourist visiting Paris, being informed by the landlady of a building, "Because of their popularity with tourists, Monsieur, these dark, dingy garrets are quite expensive and difficult to reserve. Perhaps I could interest you in large, clean, well-lit room on the ground floor...?"
There in the endless void a simple stupid anglefish died and yet it's light shines on and his body gives nourishment to harbor life on it. This is very much the cycle of life (yeah yeah Lion King, I can hear the song now too). The only people who despair on this location are those who seek higher meanings and have no eyes of the beauty of the mundane. Maybe I read to much into it, but It seems to me this story has so many layers, so many philosophical ideas depicted in art, giving so much food for thought .. I kinda regard it as an masterpiece of written art. And if not this at very least a very well written and thought out piece that deservers way more attention. It can stand very well on its own without background knowledge about the SCP .. ... I think
Wait, you're telling me the Foundation didn't just pointlessly send several dozen D-class marching off in every direction to see what happened? This really is the Foundation of the far future!
Am I the only one who find Lamplight kind of... idealistic? It's a calm, peaceful place town the edge of the multiverse, which besides its effect on the mental of its residents and some mild anomalies such as inconsistent aging, doesn't have many downsides. Especially its traditions and celebrations, it all seems so nice and almost... wholesome.
Reminds me of Dr. Seus and I like that. The odd whimsical ideas that are grounded but at the same time nothing follows the rules of reality. It's perfect as it is. And that alright.
I feel like there is most defiantly something to be said about an angler fishes light drawing many to their deaths, but many more finding that light and managing to live in peace with it
War Cat Studios it’s probably a mobile user. Believe me, the majority of those tiny bunches of dislikes you always see on RUclips videos are from people on the mobile youtube app, because there are a ton of ways of accidentally pressing thumbs down where it gives you no feedback that you’ve done so. I often go back to videos that I really like to find that I’ve accidentally disliked at some point. That’s why I’m general, those joke comments where they say “X people who disliked this are stupid” generally don’t reflect anything because the people the comment refers to never even intentionally disliked the video. That is, unless a video has a ratio where the likes aren’t generally outweighing the dislikes. Then it’s more likely that dislikes are intentional
@@formerctgovernordannelmall1452 I always assumed that the dislikes in the first minutes of a new upload were assholes who subscribe _solely_ to dislike on every new video.

This is now one of my favorite SCPs. As an eccentric, fatalistic, nigh nihilistic, atavistic, anachronistic, somewhat academic and a definitely misanthropic cynic.... And probably a few more '-ics' that aren't immediately coming to mind....I truly love the idea of settling in a place like this. I'm a huge fan of frock coats, waist coats, pocket watches, top hats and all manner of Victorian nonsense. True, i might feel more comfortable on an ancient field of battle, swinging an axe into a Legionnaire's face or raiding villages and churches on the coast of Scotland with my Scandinavian ancestors, but i believe i would thrive quite well indeed, in this remote community in the literal middle of nowhere. The Cyberpunk district would have internet and free WiFi, which I'm confident i couldn't live without lol. And the rest would have the aesthetics of several different types of architecture and culture that i find peaceful and alluring. I often grow weary of modernity (all hall the Scarlet King! Joking.)and this Earth. Anybody point me to Lamplight? It's not showing up on Google Maps, damnit.....
I really like this SCP in how it’s more about the human mind and perspective in an environment like this rather than the actual SCP itself. Something you rarely see from this series.

the night does not give easy answers but, as discomforting it might be, if it did, what lamps would be left to lit?
I love it
This is my new favorite SCP.
Why?
The night does not give such easy answers.
At first I thought this SCP was an adult version of Lantern Waste from Narnia. Now I'm thinking it's a modern version of Valinor, with a somewhat withered Silver Tree casting light over it.
It’s a city on the back of an anglerfish, of corse it takes place in an endless void filled with other such horrors as here on earth.
This could be a great expansion of sunless sky
Yeah? Well we live in a ball of dirt orbiting an ignited gas ball, when you come to think is not like ours is such a fancy place.
@@commandermcnash5137 ...and the giant gas ball is basically an eldritch horror by description, it screams, flails wildly, has no emotions or cares, people used to sacrifice to it (and possibly still do, but unlikely).
I know that this channel's coverage of SCP doesn't usually extend to tales or series of tales, but I have to recommend the Pitch Haven series that connects to 2746, because it's honestly super interesting to me, and may *actually* give answers as to what the Foundation discovered during the events of 5000 that drove them to sympathize with 682
Also, it hardly fits the format for the channel, but 5011 was also pretty fun to read and go through
hellothisismufin I guess it would be interesting to see him cover another one of the numerous canon timelines. I’ve heard of The Pitch Haven series but never got around to checking it out or figuring out what SCPS or tales are connected to it.
@@undeadprinceofchaos3731 are tales tagged for cross referencing with relevant SCPs?
I mean, he did the ouroboros cycle, so maybe he'll read some tales in the future
Sergey Kojoian I mean they now have a page that list all the tales that correlate with a certain SCP as well as showing what tales includes or is about what SCP
Just wanted to say thank you for all the hard work you do on these videos, really pleasing and salvaging my work days.
the void seems alot like the void from scp 3000, red reality
You mean 3001 right? 3000 is Anatashesha, the big eel god, that wipes people's memories that the foundation secretly uses to make amnestics
@@belgebelgravia100 yeah, must've just been a typo.
@@JohnsDough1918 Course in another world he could've been right, considering 3001 was only a couple points off beating Anatashesha in the 3000 contest
Excellent video, as always! I'm not sure why, but this SCP gives me some serious Fallen London/Sunless Sea vibes.
Obviously AWCY made the city using "Stary Night" as inspiration
Either that or a Moonlight Tower, a gigantic reflector that was used to illuminate small towns at night
This story from start to finish scratches a special kind of dark sort of whimsical itch I rarely get to find. A wonderful telling
Never clicked a video so fast, and never had the privilege of being one of the first to view!!
Thanks for the amazing content and I hope you're well in these crazy and uncertain times!!
Much love from here in Richmond indiana!
Bro, what if they could find others like this or engineer something using this. They could make void cities, void crafts that can travel across it. Hell, they could see if beyond their universes there is more!!
And then relations between universes changed forever.
IMO the reveal of the anglerfish is more than enough to be mind-blowing, without needing more than that. I still have so many questions, and it's okay that they don't get answers.
Love how poetic you made the ending.
Man, the way you end these videos is part of why this channel stands out to me. So thoughtful.
I know where i want to go where i die. Lamplight. Tell them to burn a light in a small room, warm and cozy, full of old books...My darling, I will find you there.
I love it whenever you say something kind of complicated then follow it with a casual, "whatever that means..." lol.
You're one of my favorite RUclipsrs and I'm planning on subscribing to your Patreon after my next paycheck. Keep up the good work brudah! Can't wait for more!
I think this is about the SCP Universe itself, in a meta way. People in the internet both coming for and being obsessed with the void and darkness and mystery of the SCP Universe... but only a few finding out the magic and community and the culture, the small yet steady light, and the little warmth that can be found there.
I forgot just how much I love this entry.
And the whole 5000 series.
Halfway through, the images shown give me Thief vibes, for anyone who's played that game. Awesome times 👌
This is one of my favorite SCP'S and you really did it justice. Thanks for the deep dive
I love how you ended this one. Very interesting SCP as well, certainly different from the norm.
no sleep = best scp content
Now one of my favorite fictional locations... Also can I just say that I love your choice of music for these more "calm" and less horrific SCPs?
Another quality vid. Keep it up TES. You opened up my interest in Lovecraft and SCP and you don't know how wonderful it's been to read and listen about these.
That festival sounds like a lot of fun
Just woke up to a quality SCP article
This is one of my favorites. It's reminiscent of a lot of really excellent, creative, and extremely far outside-the-box science fiction.
In my head canon this is the end outcome of Red Reality
To think scp all started with some guy writing a creepypasta about a teleporting peanut
This gentle and subdued SCP wasn't written for most of the people who read SCPs, and I think that's great. I would love to read more unique SCPs about the ephemeral and quaint aspects of the unexplained.
Thanos: who are you
Lamplight according to Lumiere: I’m you, but stronger
*In Shrek's voice
Legend says if you walk out into the expanse far enough you will find 'Red' from SCP-3001.
"Fear not the dark my friend, and let the feast begin."
Fun drinking game: take a drink every time he says something along the lines of “whatever that is”
I save this video for every few months just to savour the poetic value
This was a very good video to watch and I love that quote at the end, it's one of my absolute favorites in the world.
Am I the only one who find Lamplight kind of... idealistic? It's a calm, peaceful place town the edge of the multiverse, which besides its effect on the mental of its residents and some mild anomalies such as inconsistent aging, doesn't have many downsides. Especially its traditions and celebrations, it all seems so nice and almost... wholesome.
horse culling center sounds a lot like shark punching center , maybe a different version in that weird universe
Lovely my friend !! Wonderful plots and nice twists & turns !! Dig it !!
This just seems like such a delightful place. I'd love to live there.
Reminds me of Dr. Seus and I like that. The odd whimsical ideas that are grounded but at the same time nothing follows the rules of reality. It's perfect as it is. And that alright.
Thanks for the continuous SCP's!
I feel like there is most defiantly something to be said about an angler fishes light drawing many to their deaths, but many more finding that light and managing to live in peace with it
Glad to see you’re keeping well
A dislike already?
You don't deserve that
War Cat Studios it’s probably a mobile user.
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by
The flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
Yo I'm glad you stared doing scps
You and the volgun are the best on RUclips hands down
Oh wow you made an expolartion for this one !!!! Great thank very much. This was close to become scp 5000! And somehow you always manage to find good images.
Is the Orchard universe the one with all the apples that Dr King is from?
what a fantastic SCP! You did it justice too!
This one gives me a very strong "Solaris" (S. Lem) vibe.
this was my pick to win, i know it was a weird pick for the spot but i like its nostalgic feel and it's handling of the mistery theme
I wonder if the "snow" is just dead fish scales, and the "fog" gases from it's corpse. Kinda gross.
Explains why no one wants to talk about it tho
Wouldn't newcomers complain about the smell then.
@@Boggarthh Since the anglerfish is from another universe my guess is it's remains aren't smelly in it's universe?
Thanks for releasing these quality videos so frequently. I've been watching for a long while now and I've shared your channel with alot of my friends, getting them hooked on SCP too
I like to fall asleep to your videos and sometimes I don’t always catch all the ads to skip em before I fall asleep so sometimes it’s super weird to lucidly hear you talk about how terrifying the febreeze is that can go through walls ect. 😂
Wholesome content
Freeaking gold! both the article and your summery of it. especially your last line!
I kind of like this better than the actual winner of the contest.
Yesss, I really love your channel man. Keep it up! Please!?
I love the background music chosen and the quality of your voice.
Great video as always. Could you cover the mindfuck that is SCP-4012?
Seriously, this was fucking awesome! Straight up!
These are so good, it's how I've gotten a few friends interested in scp! Keep it up!
