    In today's video we take a first look at an new World War II turn based wargame, The Troop.
    The Troop is a turn-based, platoon-level tactical game set in WW2. From the early hours of D-Day, follow the campaign of the British and Canadian forces as they struggle against their German counterparts in fighting across Normandy and beyond.
    On the morning of the 6th June 1944 the Western Allies began the largest seaborne invasion in the history of warfare. D-Day would mark the start of a vicious campaign to wrestle North West Europe from German control. The following months would see the ancient fields, farms and villages serve as a battleground for new, lethal weapons that would become legendary.
    The Troop follows the campaign of British and Canadian forces as they face the German Heer and SS in Normandy. Take command of infantry, motorised and armoured units in desperate tactical turn-based combat against an AI opponent that is challenging and unpredictable, but fair and fallible.
    Simple, complete control - The Troop embraces the best traditions of classic tabletop war gaming combined with the interactivity and excitement the digital format affords. You have complete control over your units' actions; tanks will not expose their weak side armour with unexpected pathing, hidden guns will not reveal their positions by firing prematurely, infantry will not flee inexplicably when victory is a few heroic paces away. Your AI opponent has no special knowledge and is subject to all the same rules and restrictions as you. You are free to take your time... but any mistakes are yours and yours alone.
    Choose your difficulty, play as you want - The Troop does not have one difficulty setting. Instead players can control a variety of feature and information settings to tailor their gameplay experience for the most enjoyable challenge.
    A game, not a simulation - The Troop is born from a life long passion for WW2 history and turn-based games. Our aim is to give a little glimpse of that history through an enjoyable challenge. The events depicted are set in the broad reality of the historical campaigns, the missions themselves however are fictional and geared towards an enjoyable challenge rather than a strict depiction of history. We hope only to do justice to the spirit of those countless memoirs and after action reports that survive and continue to fascinate us.

    A 2 pounder is 40mm. It was the British anti-tank weapon early war and was capable against the likes of the Pz.3. As armour increased, the 2 pdr was replaced with the 6 pdr (57mm) and eventually the mighty 17 pdr (77mm).

    Hamlet is a pretty common term in the UK for a small village, definitely nothing to do with Vietnam (in this context).

      @thehistoricalgamer  6 месяцев назад +5

      In the American context when you hear the term hamlet you think south-east Asia, more specifically Vietnam, but that's interesting its used in a European connotation as well. Thanks!

      @@thehistoricalgamerAs an American, I have no idea where you got this misconception from. If I were to ask everyone around me who have heard of the word, none would go for SEA or Vietnam. Like the phrase found in a lot of literature “a lazy hamlet” would conjure up the thought of Europe without fail.

      I'm not a native English speaker, but to me the use of the term "hamlet" for a small village seems perfectly normal. I am from Europe though.

      @Seraph062 6 месяцев назад +5

      @@thehistoricalgamerI think that would depend on where in America you live. "Hamlet" is a very common term in New York to refer to a community that is large enough to get a name, but not so big as to be an actual village. I think very few people here would think "Vietnam" if they heard the word "Hamlet".

       @thehistoricalgamer I'm a Texan in my late 30s and hamlet just means "tiny rural village" to me, don't know why you'd associate it with Vietnam in particular.

    Finally, a WW2 game in The West. It's usually The Eastern Front or Africa these days. I always prefer The Western Front, and The Pacific, probably because I'm an American.

    My brother in Christ... you are kicking yourself by not opening your tank hatches. It will increase visibility/ accuracy by a LOT when you do. Only need to close tank hatches when there is infantry in your immediate vicinity as it will prevent them from popping a grenade in the vehicle.

    Why couldn't he have spent 30 minutes playing in skirmish before the video?
    It would have given him time to figure out the basics while not seeing this map.
    TLDR; It's really boring watching a content creator fumbling around.
