As one of the creators of the mod I want to thank you for reviewing RealRTCW. This will certainly give it more exposure. Also I want to mention, that in vanilla game difficulty levels only affects healthpacks and ammo pickups values. So on the easy difficulty you will get 30 HP from the small medpack, while on Death Incarnate you will only get 10 HP. In RealRTCW difficulty also affects enemies accuracy, health, reaction time and as you said max health and ammo capacity for the player. So your choice of the difficulty level will realy mean something now.
+WolfPlayer Hey Wolf, big fan of your work on RealRTCW. Do you think you'll spend more time with it improving the mod? That is, improving on the most superb modification for RTCW in my opinion in the modding community anyway.
The MG42 definitely does overheat like a stove stuffed with thermite. In real life, I mean. That's why, in order to save time on the cooldown, the MG42 has a mechanism that allows the gun crew to swap barrels in literally seconds. There's guns with longer magazine changes. Overall, the MG42 was SUCH a great design that the German military post-WW2 figured, why the hell not, and kept using it - albeit chambered in 7.62 NATO and redubbed MG3 - until they finally looked into replacing it just a few years ago.
I've not played RTCW since 2003, but I STILL remember all the events you showed in the video, amazing game. Also the only MP FPS ever where Medics are essential to surviving and not just there to lower your respawn time.
RTCW was the first PC game I took seriously, before that I was into Unreal and Unreal Tournament since my mom wasn't into the whole demonic Doom thing and my friend across the street had ISDN internet (we were poor with our 33.6k internet) and the one rule was only Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake were allowed to be played on his ISDN connection. He was a great shot and I was a terrible shot but a great medic since I was just getting into PC gaming XD
If you thought this mod was great before, just look at it now. The Workshop maps are amazing. I also like the bonus modes inspired by The New Order. I also came to adore the option to have extra enemies in the non-stealth levels, as well as the addition of new enemy types. Attack dogs appear, as well as the Occult Priests and X-Hounds from the console ports of the original game. All it’s missing is the Cursed Sands prologue, and achievements to go with it!
Found a Easter Egg! If you go through the credits and look at all the people that made the game, go all the way to the end of it all. There is a tab that says get psyched. Click that and you will play REAL Wolfenstein 3D. It is awesome for that alone. I just wish there was an orchestrated version of the music for it. This mod is a must have for any Wolfenstein enthusiast!
Good call, and the BAR uses 30-06 which is very similar in "power" to the 8mm Mauser round, so should basically feel like a select-fire Mauser in the game as far as the damage it puts out.
I don't understand why Stens are even in RtCW. As an Allied weapon I understand, but used by the Elite Guard? Wouldn't silenced Lugers make more sense since they kill silently?
Thanks for showing me this mod!! I don't usually download mods you review, just seeing them in action is enough but not this one. This one is special. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and loving every moment of it. When I made it to the first boss, the one covered in faces, it took me every single bullet I had to kill it. I was so worried I'd have to switch to my knife to kill the damn thing it brought back the freak I first had when playing thia boss as a kid. As for the gameplay, I love quick saving my way through levels. To the point where if I take any damage I reload the last quick save just to keep full health and armor. Its classic FPS gaming at its finest. I thank you for showing me this mod and to the creator thanks!
Interesting how the original game is one of the few FPSs that doesn’t have a shotgun, but based on what you said here, it’s clearly built without one in mind. There probably should be more FPSs that don’t require its use, even though I do love using them.
I recall historically, the Germans didn’t particularly like using shotguns in war. In fact, they were apparently deeply insulted by the Americans using shotguns in WW1, saying shotguns were weapons for hunting, not war. Of course Americans used shotguns in WW1 a lot because they were incredibly effective at clearing trenches.
gameragodzilla Interestingly, the Germans in ww1 tried to ban the shotgun as they thought the wounds produced by the gun were breaking war time law as the shotgun often led to painful death. For reference, a modern double ought buck pellet carries the energy of a weak 38 special shot.
Anime is like a drug no joke. Its addictive and after you give it up you'll have withdraws but feel so much better from it. . . What were we talking about again?
Honestly like your mod reviews at least as much as new game reviews. Additionally, mod reviews tell me about great mods that I wouldn't have know about otherwise. For example, you reviewed Death Wish for Blood. I downloaded and quite frankly it's one of the best fps I have ever played.
I tried playing this mod and just it seemed to remove the most nostalgic things like gun models and gunshots and just added generic gun shot sounds, and the higher difficulties give the enemies laser accuracy one shorting you. Honestly I'd say just replay the base game
Still one of my favourite FPS games of all time. RTCW was a pretty hard game, so having a bit more firepower is not a bad thing. I mod it just for 16:9 support etc...
Mauser is not replaced by kar 98k, it is kar 98k. They just rename it in game and they called it mauser because of caliber that it use.Great video keep it up 👍.
I would love to see a review of WolfET some time. It always feels like it doesn't get the credit it deserves as a free-as-in-beer multiplayer FPS. The stock maps were excellent, some of the community maps were too, and there are still servers hosting matches to this day. Impressive considering the age of the title.
That one guy who gave you a dislike deserves a visit from BJ Blazkowicz, great vid man, love your stuff, been your sub for as far back as your review for Painkiller Black.
I know I'm several years late here but I just wanna take a minute to appreciate an Aussies proper pronunciation of the "m1-garand". Most Americans say "guh-RAND". The Canadian who invented the weapon has corrected us time and time again. And it's an Aussie across the globe who gets it right. Thanks G-man for the awesome content! Also it would have been great for the modders to include the option to swap out your MG-42 barrel for a fresh cool one. This was something the Germans had to contend with in real life and it would have made it better rather than having the long cool down time.
This is really cool and well done to the mod creator. One thing I noticed though I could be wrong: your character ragdoll didn’t seem textured and it looked like plain white in the hand or sleeves sometimes!
New Collosus was a lot of fun, great action, enjoyable enough lite stealth and some absolutely vicious gunplay. The story was over the top at times with some characters being quite silly. This fits the almost "fantasy in BJs mind" idea they toy with in the story. However I find the over topness to be fun with its "Tarantinoness"
the BAR is a power house thanks to the round it fired, it was made to punch. So I can understand the power, it was also mostly used as a 'mount' weapon but seems they used the cut down version of the rifle, not leaving the mount for the bipod, but could be wrong as I have not played the mod
It sounds like alot of the guns that were in the console versions are in this mod. Sounds cool the new guns sound like a blast. The luger was always a pea shooter. The early sections of the game were so hard because its a weak weapon to switch to after the mp40.
I used to play RTCW on a rig that wasn't powerful enough to run it, but did anyway because this game was so great! This was an absolute masterpiece in the franchise!
The BAR is an amusing rifle. It was intended for walking across no man’s land, firing from the hip during world war 1. This concept of walking fire didn’t really take off and it was used as a light machine gun fired from bipod in practice. If it wasn’t so heavy it could have been the basis for the first assault rifles.
It's worth noting that the mod page has downloads for the more popular user campaigns with Real: RTCW compatibility added on, including the Trondheim Trilogy. Great set of levels.
IRL There's a button on the M1 Garand that will eject the en bloc clip and however many rounds are left so you can reload at any time. Useful if you're down to 1 or 2 rounds and have plenty of spare loaded clips in your bandolier.
Having played through the vanilla game so many times now, this ought be an interesting change! Thanks for giving this mod some more exposure! Also, it looks like the new FG42 model was ripped from the first Call of Duty.
Gggman talking about a mod for RTCW? Amazing. The best retro game reviewer talking about probably the best game in the Wolfenstein franchise is just brilliant. (Spear of Destiny is a close 2nd place for me)
The game of my childhood. I mean my father playing it, me watching. It was awesome to play in emulated Motorola Defy with shitty steering but then beating it on hardest difficulty on PC. I always enjoy playing it over again. I also was huge fan of Enemy Territory, spent countless hours of my young life time.
The whole "cant reload the M1 Garand mid clip" thing is actually a huge myth originally spawned from Medal of Honor Allied Assault, where you could only have one reload animation per gun because of the engine
The fg-38 in this game was SOOOOOO AWSOME. AND THE THOMPSON MACHINE GUN WAS ALSO AWSOME. YOU JUST DIDNT GET IT A LOT. SO I WOUKD GIVE MYSELF THE WEAPONS CHEATS AND GO THROUGH THE WHOLE GAME WITH IT. THE THOMPSON IS AWSOME
I am so happy to hear about this mod. I love the level design of RTCW but the hitscan difficulty BS stopped me from finishing it. This seems excellent and worth giving the game another try
Well the Sten was basically just the British trying to make a copy of the older version of the MP34 (MP18) but much cheaper to make. So it's authentic that they fell the same in-game.
God I fucking loved this game back in the day. I think I might have sunk more hours into the multiplayer on the beach landing map than I did even with counter strike.
My major complaint about this is how the zombie enemies seemed to have some kind of damage resistance. I remember first playing RTCW on the original Xbox as "Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War" where you could drop a zombie with a third of a clip from the MP-40 or even a single shell from the shotgun (the Tides of War version included a shotgun). In this, you have to empty at LEAST a clip and a half of the MP-40 to kill even the weakest of the zombies or four or five shotgun shells, and the fire-breathing zombies are an absolute nightmare, as they have long attack ranges and are usually fought in pretty confined spaces.
Always wondered why old WW2 shooters wouldn't let you reload mid-clip on an M1 Garand. There is a button you can press after you pull back the charging handle that will pop out the en bloc clip with rounds in it so you can reload or even top off the rifle. Maybe they just couldn't or didn't want to animate it?
The Sten gun being in the game isn't so farfetched. It was deliberately designed to use the same magazines and ammo as the MP40 (so the British could steal the Germans ammo lol) and it was cheap and easy to build. Stens were airdropped in places like France to arm resistance movements since any farmer could build one with the tools and equipment they already had. You get your first Sten in game from anti-Nazi German resistance. Also German commandos often captured and used Stens since they were lighter than the MP40 and ammo wasn't an issue.
I bought this game from GOG last year and loved it more than any of the games I have bought in the past 18 years that came out after it. So there were no new levels created for it like in the Doom community?
4:42 can I just say something mate about that... I’m a huge fan of WW2 weaponry and from what I know... that’s not the way an M1 Garand works The ping was there to indicate when the gun was empty but the idea of it not being able to be manually reloaded until it was empty is silly, you actually could reload it. I hate it when a game does that.
I didnt even know this game had mods....hot damn. My biggest complaint in RTCW was the weapon types you were limited to. Always wanted a Stg44 and shotgun in the game. Unrelated, after I finished the game years ago and found out how to get cheats to work, in the part where the big door goes up n reveals the ubersoldiers, I would no clip into the area before starting the battle and plant dynamite (took some time to get timing down) so that it blows right before the doors start moving, killing the ubersoldiers and just looking hilarious as the big reveal ends up being just 2 dead guys.
I'm very surprised to even play this game again after the vanilla game stopped working for some reason, even when re-installing. Well, with IoRTCW, it keeps much like other Id classics like Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake fully timeless, and even with this mod, it gives new life to the game, making it look like a full blown HD remaster that can be played in 1080p. Considering that I have the Steam Version of the original game, except that for very obvious reasons, since I live in Germany, I had to have the game gifted from a friend of mine in the outside world, since we Germans are quite lucky that unlike other games with Nazi references, it does not have the PurchaseRestrictedCountries DE tag on it, yet still remains unavailable for very obvious reasons.
I really did appreciate Wolfenstein: The New Order. Particularly for it’s depiction of a sci-fi world where hyper-advanced Germans, victorious in the War and who ascended as the dominant force over a national socialist earth and and beyond. The storyline was interesting and had just the right amount of dark themes and seriousness that one should expect from a Wolfenstein game. It was a highly unique concept. The second one, the New Colossus on the other hand kind of did away with many of those core elements which made for the kind of dark and serious atmosphere that the first one had are much more absent in the The New Colossus. The story and atmosphere seems to be a bit more silly and lighthearted and some parts of it of the game include subject matter involving contemporary social values and pushing other political ideals. There was nothing quite like the original Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Nazis, ancient Aryan magic, demons all in the midst of the War. Now that’s creativity right there.
If Old Blood could be modded it would be awesome, as the game already is for a modern FPS, so using all improvements we got through years with a old school thinking of making maps, sure it would be something.
It's actually really good, especially with this mod. What i like a lot is that this game doesn't hold you hand or interrupt your gameplay frequently, like lot of modern games do. Level design is good, guns feel good to use, and the overall atmosphere is really helped by great soundrack especially in the catacomb levels.
@@YourCRTube Ugh. That's never the case. I'd say the opposite is true. People often overlook the far superior classic design strategy behind older FPS games, just because they think they're 'outdated'.
Super late to the punch here, but the hiked up difficulty in IADI and Realism mode was definitely needed for the game's oldest veterans. I found that I always seemed to have full stacks of health, armor and ammo, bar a few encounters in the penultimate level. With enemies being near perfectly accurate, compounded with a quartered health cap, it made being faster and more accurate far more important, on top of the halved ammo capacity making every shot that much more valuable. I can see why this might not appeal to more laid back players, but I think playing the game in Realism mode puts it on par with playing Blood on extra crispy; a true masterpiece, and the definitive edition of the game.
That’s my issue with rtcw in general though. It’s in this odd middle ground between being a slow high damage tactical fps and being a fast paced boomer shooter and doesn’t fully commit to either style. But I still found it fun at the end of the day…. Real rtcw doesn’t really fix my issues but I consider a interesting alternative. It’s just too different from the base game

Yeah, plus it's balanced. If they made the 34 in this fire much longer it would make the Venom gun pointless.

Gggmanlives: the K98K is a Mauser. Mauser is the manufacturer, the K98K is one of their rifles. Great review!

Same here, especially the catacombs level. The new Wolfenstein completely neglect the gritty look and atmosphere of this game

I still think MetaDoom could make a neat Mod Corner episode.
Only thing I remember about this game is the tough research level. No warm fuzzes at all. Now the first Pain Killer, lots of warm fuzzes.
What does that mean?
I am so happy to hear about this mod. I love the level design of RTCW but the hitscan difficulty BS stopped me from finishing it. This seems excellent and worth giving the game another try
Well the Sten was basically just the British trying to make a copy of the older version of the MP34 (MP18) but much cheaper to make. So it's authentic that they fell the same in-game.
God I fucking loved this game back in the day. I think I might have sunk more hours into the multiplayer on the beach landing map than I did even with counter strike.
i want a mod that adds the lvls from PS2 and XBOX
I know right like just put them in this mod and you got yourself the best wolfenstein made
I have been trying to get into fps. But for some reason they don't really click with me(outside immersive sims) like they used to.
My first and most beloved Multiplayer FPS. Just awesome.
Now THIS game is my jam.
Cant seem to get it running. Working off of a Steam Copy but after multiple reinstalls my "Pk0.pk3 is missing
I just recently bought RTCW on GOG yesterday, and I never knew this mod exists.
I’m a huge fan of WW2 weaponry and from what I know... that’s not the way an M1 Garand works
The ping was there to indicate when the gun was empty but the idea of it not being able to be manually reloaded until it was empty is silly, you actually could reload it.
This mod seems really cool for a game like this one.
It looks like this mod fixes that weird lag when the soldiers die. That alone probably makes this mod worth playing.
Wolfenstein The New Order and New Colossus are awesome too though.
I think this mod make the game even more fun
Those are Day of Infamy sounds I'm hearing.
If Old Blood could be modded it would be awesome, as the game already is for a modern FPS, so using all improvements we got through years with a old school thinking of making maps, sure it would be something.
My favourite fps game of all time. Finished it at least 10 times, but with this mod it will be 11th ;)
2 hours ago, I finished for the first time RtCW :)))
Nice, did you enjoy it :) ?
Yea, how is it holding up? I have never played it and I am worried all these retro reviews and comments are blinded by nostalgia to a large degree.
Eero Lång yes, I really did enjoy it ;)
@@YourCRTube Ugh.
