    I have a cheap CnC I got from Sainsmart, the 3018 and installed better spindle I got from Banggood. It only goes to 12000 rpm but this is enough. I can now cut 4 mm carbon in one pass at 200mm/minute using the 2mm drillpro end mills.
    I ramp down 4.5mm and then one more full pass and that's it!

    • @Lawzy
      @Lawzy 3 года назад +1

      I am thinking of getting the latest Sainsmart 3018 Prover. Still happy wth your choice? Did you make a water bath? Any learnings you can share?

  • @dividingbyzerofpv6748
    @dividingbyzerofpv6748 5 лет назад +2

    Hey man. Have you considered putting an inlet and outlet on that water tank? On the outlet side you can have the water run to an aquarium/bucket that houses a pump for recycling the water back to the inlet. Before the pump you can have a gravity fed filter making the debris get caught in the filter.
    Where the outlet is, use a stand off that attaches to the bottom of the tray that can be adjusted to raise the water height(go peek at how your toilet builds the water column in the tank yet lets overflow pass once the height gets too high).
    You could change the water height in your system to properly cover whatever thickness of plate you are using.
    Then in the inlet side you can use aquariun stile flex tube(also used in machining collant hoses) to bring the water flow to the top of the build plate giving positive water flow across the top of the surface allowing for constant/clear viewing of the work piece.
    These are all plans I have in my head for when I get my CNC mill and do submerged milling.

    I use the more expensive Amana carbon fiber/composite bits, about $30 each, and cut at 18,000 rpm at 35 ipm full depth, one pass, into 3mm carbon fiber. My CNC is not the hobby grade and has a 4hp, 24,000 max rpm water cooled spindle on it. Your edges are the result of chatter and not enough rpm. If you need something cut let me know.

    • @FlipFlopPilot
      @FlipFlopPilot 3 года назад

      @Roc FPV Conventional works just fine with the Amana bits. I get a nice , smooth cut but I fixture my parts very well so there's no movement or vibration.

  • @n_fifty_fire
    @n_fifty_fire 3 месяца назад

    Ok, I think this is crazy cool! I make a lot of composite parts for many model vehicles and recently picked up a small cnc machine for the purpose of cutting carbon fiber. I designed some alignment jigs on shapr3d and 3dp’d them so I can 2-side machine my stuff. Anyway, I went and bought the same exact end mill bits and was curious about feed rate/plunge and rpm. Then BOOM, here I am clicking on your video, courtesy of a youtube algorithm. This was perfect! Thanks for the content😎

    My settings for carbon sheets. Stay with the 1.5mm bit over all profiles.
    All internal cuts first. One tab for internal parts and tabs on points of long external parts.
    300mm/minute FR
    150mm/minute plunge
    15000 rpm
    1mm doc
    Tabs 2mm height and 1mm width.
    Get those super cheap "diamond" files with the red handles to remove the tabs.

  • @okanogen2010
    @okanogen2010 4 года назад +1

    You need to cut the interior holes out first, add tabs to hold the material in place and reduce chatter, then cut tabs to remove. You could try adding a protective adhesive plastic sheet to protect the surfaces. That can also mitigate splintering, but may foul the bit.

    You should set the RPM as high as it will go with such a small router bit. Also, add small tabs to keep the workpiece secured.

    Hey quick question: I bought the Stepcraft and milling bath - how do you drain and dispose of the carbon fiber? Not all the water gets drained through the pipe of the milling bath just from gravity. Also, where do you dump the waste? Thank you!

  • @Pintosonic
    @Pintosonic 5 лет назад +1

    You would have much better cut quality if the carbon plate was properly supported during the cut. Those rough edges are caused by vibrations in the material. Unfortunately cutting in water reduce your options regarding spoil boards and holding methods.

    i think there is a version of fusion360 for small companies, where you have most of the features, but can use it for free and make money with the models you create
    generative design is missing, but doesn't hurt much

    • @Pintosonic
      @Pintosonic 5 лет назад

      It’s not a special version, it’s the same Fusion 360, and there’s 3 types of free licences. One for students, one for non commercial use and one for startups that have less than 100k of revenue.

    FYI its not always tools or speeds and feeds, sometimes its just crap material. i have 3 vendors. i can use same speeds and feeds on 3 different types of material and 3 different results. its usually the resin issue... find a material u know cuts good stay with it. even if u have to pay a premium, saves you clean up time = money time. ALSO i see a lot of you guys make these videos cutting carbon fiber and wonder why your doing so many passes. your bits are made to cut in 1 pass and a cleanup full depth pass if need be, if your machine or bits have to much deflection your machine is your real problem, usually with machines running belts or vbearings. but one depth in a cut gives u better results because with passes your bits are in contact with previously cut parts. make sense?
