Don't know if you've fixed it even later in the video (30 minutes in, wanted to make sure that I saw the bulk of it in case you did before commenting), but mining lasers have a blind spot; they aren't 360 degrees! You currently have that blind spot pointing outwards to the side it's on; that's primarily why it stops mining (if you get more than one mining laser, make sure their blind spots face each other! "deck guns" can hit each other). Another thing: Select the ship you're mining with and then right-click the thing set to be mined/salvaged, and it'll actually move forward to continue to salvage as it eats through nearer bits, making the operation overall more effective. This also points the nose of the ship towards the mined/salvaged thing, but in this configuration it has full range to the front, basically, so isn't an issue.
EDIT: There's also a targetting option to have weapons only fire at your target, when you have one set, rather than just firing at will when an enemy is selected; might want to set the ion beam to that. EDIT2: There's also the large thruster, forget the name but it's in yellow, that is a very fast-firing large thruster, and not meant for constant thrust; that's the sort of thruster you want for manuevering in combat, rather than the smaller ones. EDIT3: You'll probably want to invert your walkways since your reactor has changed location, so that carrying power up is faster, as that's more important.

Flak Batteries are very, VERY ammo hungry. Just to put it into perspective how hungry flak batteries are, you needed TWO ammo factories to keep flak going down range (albeit this was from Cosmoteer Classic). For future reference, having multiple flak batteries is better then having Point defenses for defense (as Flak Batteries one-shot most small munitions like standard lasers, cannons, and missiles), but PD is better for cost reasons.

Two diagonal barrels leading away from the central emitter core have additional benefit of allowing you to heavily armor up middle of your ship, and those barrels are next to impossible to get stray shot into. I also found that prisms placed away from the center of the ship rarely tend to be targeted, as if they have less priority the further away they are from the middle. That could be due to the placement of other internals like generators and cockpits though.

    Special bonus scenes! Always welcome!
2 more little "this game should have better tutorials" points:
    1) You can tell weapons to only fire if given a target as opposed to blindly in range, it's in the same control group menu panel you were using to toggle the crystal on and off. However I don't actually know how well it works for joined things like beams + crystals if they have different settings.
    2) The "In Range" display only seems to check that any part of the enemy ship is in firing range, rather than its centre mass or entire thing, which is why it was behaving oddly when it came to the station, it could target the furthest parts of the arms, but not the control points you were targeting. The game doesn't really tell you when you're in range or not outside of that zoomed out click dragging, at which point you're too zoomed out to aim precisely. Maybe that'll get polished going forwards

Large Shields can only go through structure, nothing else; it's mentioned in their description that they need to be external. This means your new design will take severe damage because the shield don't really work due to the armor blocks you added in front of them. you also need more of them because getting hit slightly from the side will smash you.
Capacitors convert double batteries into single batteries which means you require more crew to move energy around. You also rely on them way too much and it's highly likely your ship will stop working during an extended fight, especially your shields and weapons.
If you put your forward Ion Prism two squares more forward, it will have a massively better firing arc.

The OCD in me wishes the dapper 2 had at least one more row so the mining laser could sit in the center of it. Though I'm not sure if you can unlock another level of industry to fill in that slot at the moment.
Oh, and you know it'd honestly be kind of fun if you had an additional set of fighters that basically only use the flak batteries/cannons as weapons. (Reduces any battery drain, and you're already producing your own ammunition now.) Since I could easily foresee your ship's ever increasing loss of speed and mobility resulting it being unable to deal with multiple attacker at once. Having a compliment of fighters that act both as further point defense and capable ships themselves would probably nip that problem in the butt immediately. Since you could use draw enemies attention away from your main laser boat while it deals with something bigger and scarier. Additionally the tactical advantage of a being able to get an enemy ship to turn would mean you could kill these enemy ships way faster in some cases. Perhaps tractor beams that regard would be quite useful? Would be beyond expensive to build up a whole extra set of two effective combat ships though, particularly considering you're already running into problems with staffing just these two. I'm also pretty sure as your 'tanks' you'd probably want to make sure they can tank a hit without having to retreat quite as much as your laser boat does.

@@MrHamof that is true. Although I would agree that would have an impact if the factory was on the ship with the canons. Waiting a cupple of more seconds might not matter if it is during the typically calm minutes of transferring between the ships.

Large shields cannot be enclosed. Need to have open space, they even get blocked by armor and then the shield arc doesn't work.
There was less energy flowing to the second pair of the lasers. For the second part of combat they were mostly offline. Batteries might not be big enough to supply enough energy for the prolonged combat. Might be good idea to reprioritize the midship batteries to also supplement the beam weapons.
Personal opinion, the defense lasers on the side, two might be enough.
Lowering priority in carrying the ammo might be advisable. There should be enough ammo in the room of the flak cannon for short to mid engagement, however I saw crew carrying it already from storage to designated storage to gun crew. In mid battle where the carrying of energy might be priority, not a great look.
Love the videos, hope they're useful suggestions. Have fun.

18:10 - At this point, you can hold shift and drag your ship under the salvage. That way, the crew literally just shoves it in the storage bays instead of flying back and forth.
25:10 - Look in the top right. Amuses me when accidentally dragging wreckage around. Yes, you can push wreckage around. Even asteroids. You can even push stations a bit... though the time to get them anywhere is outlandish.
26:15 - I recommend against turning weapons off. I learned through testing... you turn them off, and the gunner leaves. From the power icon, go down one and to the right one... you can set the behaviour. Pause if you don't want to shoot, target only if you want it to only shoot at ships you have selected for battle, fire at will (default), and 'expend everything' (constant fire at all times). (I think the constant fire could be used to see how energy efficient your ship will be in combat... test how long until shots become intermittent due to lack of power supply.)
27:00 - Two contributions to why the mining laser stopped. First, the remaining parts of the station might be out of range there. The second is that the mining laser is facing up and right... meaning, the station is actually in the 'blind spot'... so, most of the dismantling of the core was likely the crew at 4x or 8x speed. Then you fly around... and still have the laser aimed away from the station... so it can only mine at the extremities of the arc. Then you leave again, to not see that the laser is not aimed at the station.
Reference - 12:50 - The mining laser is facing the right in the blueprint. More precisely... 12:22 - the red is the firing arc. So, it's main angle is across the ship to mine on the right. Back to 27:00 the station is being kept on the left of the ship... where the laser has the least coverage.
29:25 - And there you got it right. As a not, you can put it into orbit of the station (and asteroids) by targeting them (like a hostile). Then, you can lock the docking angle (attack angle), so it aims the mining laser (right of the ship) at the target. Then, when you tell is to salvage, it will actually move in closer as the salvage target shrinks. If it opts to bisect the salvage target, it may bump around the parts while adjusting orbit... depending on orbit distance and such.
