    Hey guys! I hope everyone is safe and staying indoors as best they can, wherever you are in the world. I've decided to kick things off in my backyard and get the MTB trails going. So here's an awesome start to the biggest build and ride project that I've undergone yet. This will be incredible for mountain bikes, mini bikes, pit bikes and bmx's. So I'm super lucky that I can progress this project from home with lots of digging, time lapses and riding. Stay safe and see you soon with more trail building! Legends.

    Back when my life revolved around riding BMX I spent summers on summers building up the trails in my back yard. Grass/shrubs/moss are a game changer in terms of maintenance. When you plan your next feature, if you cut the grass into cubes and dig out the grass in the general area of your feature before laying down new dirt you can put the grass aside and when the feature is finished you can place the grass down on the sides and backs of your feature. This allows for keeping good moisture and it helps for the stability of the dirt. You've got a killer space and I'm pumped to see the progress!

      Its a 3 meters long jump into a angled landing that leads directly into a 90 degree berm. So you probably jump into the berm. At the end of the berm there's a small sharkfin. The best of this feature is, thatbyou can generate a lot of speed when you pump the jumps and the berm

    Use something like large sections of cut down trees, tree stumps , 44 gallon drums , sofas, old furniture (Free rubbish) to fill space . Saves carting so much bulk good dirt/clay for the same effect . Get good hight and fill for minimal work. Or at least use that stuff for down ramps. As it appears you can't dig down for water issues. Three things. 1) Don't they have hoses in the UK? Why do all the watering with a watering can? 2) Watch the sides of the jumps eroding away in the rain. Think of something to shore them up. 3) Use depth below the current level to increase your ability to build height into features and to save imported dirt volume.

  • @Alexbeauchesne1
    @Alexbeauchesne1 4 года назад

    I think you should make a right turn on the landing of the 1st jump, then a roller, followed by a 90 degree spined hip (1 steep feature that is a jump and landing at the same time, hipping left.)
    that should leave you with plenty of speed and it sends you downhill towards the the pitbike track.

    yes! been looking forward to this series of videos.
    i think you should build it so the trail jumps over itself in parts. Also a big 180 berm

    @andydreadsbmx 4 года назад

    After the first jump you should split the line into 2 and have more of a straight jump and to the right a berm that then snakes the line between the lip and the landing of the straight jump. Just a thought.

    Hey Matt, you asked us to give you ideas for different jumps so me and all my mate decided on a whale tale we all think it would be sick and give you a lot of opportunities for later videos. Thanks Matt keep it up 🤟🏽

    Hi Matt so I’d go for 2 routes so the take off you just build to the right going around the corner I’d build that and carry on as you are but with the take off ramp I’d make a route going straight on aswell. Straight on would be a wooden step up with maybe a 5ft drop off

    Looking good ,
    The only thing I would say is try and dig into the ground and Create a bowl like feature ,
    See so many pump tracks that are so flat with jumps .
    #livingthedream
    Good luck with it
    Stay safe

    can't wait until its finished gonna be so sick, i think a gator pit into a massive lip step up trick jump which sends you to the moon. Something like the darkfest step up but on a much smaller scale but enough air so you can back flip and hopefully 1080

    Series gonna be wicked!! An idea, small jump with a landing sunk into the dirt, so you come flying out of the jump and land under ground sort of

    You could build a berm jump transfer thingy for the right hand berm

  • @trentont8695
    @trentont8695 4 года назад

    You need a small skid steer with a float function on the bucket to move dirt and compact and smooth out your jumps

  • @justtheory8233
    @justtheory8233 4 года назад

    If that was my spot. I would dig down in the ground for the trail and use that dirt to build up evrything you need. Along with that what I would do is skim the top of the ground all over. With a tractor that has a scraper on the back you just push and push all the top layers to your track. With all that grass too. Use that top layer of grass for your trail. Dig it up like your gonna use the grass as sod, and flip it over for the top layer of the trail. It will be good soft dirt that will compact very well mixed with the grass roots. The grass will probably start to grow out eventually. But just as long as your riding it your tires will kill it before it gets big enough to be a problem. I would also in the middle dig a huge bowl and build up around the perimeter of the hole. So you could jump over the hole. Or in and out of it. And you could make your trails all go through there a couple times. So you could do a different transfer every time you hit that spot on each trail. Giving it a huge amount of variation.

    It would be nice to integrate a little miniramp at the begin, where you can ride through (so use it as a tail) or just have a minramp session. They are pretty easy to build and you save up some dirt!

    Hey Matt good to see new jumps coming in but something that may help is instead of drenching the jumps maybe just wet the back of your shovel and continue to reapply the water on the back of your shovel, this means the dirt drys quacking and it’s not all sloppy and drenched idk if it will have the same affect on this dirt but may as well give it ago

    What about a nice little on-off/whale tail/ Lilly pad type feature, maybe the middle section made from wood? Who knows endless possibilities

    Build a right hip like you said, leave space for a berm to fit straight infront so you can hip into an extension of a berm

    Some wood features would save you quite a lot of time! And I'd love to see shark fin cause it's not something we often see on trails! Have fun building it! I'll personally go back to my cave to wait the lockdown to end in front of my jump bike...

    Wow, that's quite the back yard. Can't even see your house and you got a field with trimmed hedges going all the way around. Never seen that before.

    Looks like you are off to an awesome start. I would suggest adding a 6-8ft drop coming off a step-up.

  • @Josh-io5uh

    Make the landing a spine or split hip and then have that be the beginning of an oval pump track. So you can hit the spine left or right and start out on the track.

  • @ashlib8412
    @ashlib8412 4 года назад

    Matt you should do a shark fin hip and follow the hedge round then a couple of rollers to pump and 10ft gap and gradually make jumps bigger then at the end of the jumps link the jumps into a pump track

    Hi Matt I love your vids, it is so sick that you are doing this. I think it would be cool if you built a spine so you can do some jibing and maybe a shark fin.
    Thanks

    Idea. Make a really small lip for a step down but make the landing go down into the ground to a step up on the other side. So when you ride through you have two walls of dirt on either side

    A raised wooden platform would be an ideal starting point... Probably should have used some graph paper and designed a course to fit your space. Just winging it will guarantee you multiple do-overs....

  • @Jahblessio
    @Jahblessio 4 года назад

    I rate you should carry on a little ways down then make a hip to the left if you standing with the pump tack behind you. Then maybe carry on along the border and maybe add a wall ride but a janky one.

  • @oli_ruddock_7736

    @Matt Jones you should build a fat transfer into a single double transfer back . that would be epic

  • @Haydenmillenbmx

    You should dig rain drainage ruts all around the edge of the canvas and then have streams to the ruts or pipes around the jumps

    Hopefully this isn't to late but I cant help sharing my vision for the line: Make the hipped landing also a berm, curving to the right staying along the shrubs to save space in the yard, also saving space for more lines in the future. Coming out of the berm is a little berm transfer gap. It would be sick to make a left 90 degree left hip once you get to the corner. These types of features would be smaller and flowy saving dirt and space, providing early variety and speed for possibly bigger jumps along the line.
